Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address the U.S. Congress tomorrow about the perils of striking a nuclear deal with Iran. Netanyahu, not generally known for his measured rhetoric, has been vociferous in his public statements about the dangers of such compromise, warning that it will allow Iran to “rush to the bomb” and that it amounts to giving the country “a license” to develop nuclear weapons.
It is worth remembering, however, that Netanyahu has said much of this before. Almost two decades ago, in 1996, Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress where he darkly warned, “If Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, this could presage catastrophic consequences, not only for my country, and not only for the Middle East, but for all mankind,” adding that, “the deadline for attaining this goal is getting extremely close.”
Almost 20 years later that deadline has apparently still not passed, but Netanyahu is still making dire predictions about an imminent Iranian nuclear weapon. Four years before that Congressional speech, in 1992, then-parliamentarian Netanyahu advised the Israeli Knesset that Iran was “three to five years” away from reaching nuclear weapons capability, and that this threat had to be “uprooted by an international front headed by the U.S.”
In his 1995 book, “Fighting Terrorism,” Netanyahu once again asserted that Iran would have a nuclear weapon in “three to five years,” apparently forgetting about the expiration of his old deadline.
For a considerable time thereafter, Netanyahu switched his focus to hyping the purported nuclear threat posed by another country, Iraq, about which he claimed there was “no question” that it was “advancing towards to the development of nuclear weapons.” Testifying again in front of Congress in 2002, Netanyahu claimed that Iraq’s nonexistent nuclear program was in fact so advanced that the country was now operating “centrifuges the size of washing machines.”
Needless to say, these claims turned out to be disastrously false. Despite this, Netanyahu, apparently unchastened by the havoc his previous false charges helped create, immediately went back to ringing the alarm bells about Iran.
A 2009 U.S. State Department diplomatic cable released by Wikileaks described then-prime ministerial candidate Netanyahu informing a visiting Congressional delegation that Iran was “probably one or two years away” from developing weapons capability. Another cable later the same year showed Netanyahu, now back in office as prime minister, telling a separate delegation of American politicians in Jerusalem that “Iran has the capability now to make one bomb,” adding that alternatively, “they could wait and make several bombs in a year or two.”
In statements around this time made to journalists, Netanyahu continued to raise alarm about this supposedly imminent, apocalyptic threat. As he told The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg in a 2010 interview, “You don’t want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs,” adding, “that’s what is happening in Iran.”
In 2012 Netanyahu said in closed talks reported by Israeli media that Iran is just “a few months away” from attaining nuclear capabilities. Later that same year, he gave a widely-mocked address at the United Nations in which he alleged that Iran would have the ability to construct a weapon within roughly one year, while using a printout of a cartoon bomb to illustrate his point.
Despite this heady rhetoric, Netanyahu’s estimates of an imminent Iranian nuclear bomb have consistently been at odds with analyses made by his own intelligence agency. In 2011, departing Mossad intelligence chief Meir Dagan said in his final intelligence summary that, contrary to Netanyahu’s repeated statements at the time, an Iranian nuclear weapon is in fact not imminent, and that any military action against the country could end up spurring the development of such a weapon.
Just last week, leaked intelligence cables reported by Al Jazeera revealed that at roughly the same time in 2012 that Netanyahu was brandishing his cartoon bomb and telling the United Nations that Iran was close to obtaining a nuclear weapon, Israeli intelligence had actually determined the country was “not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons.”
The conclusion from this history is inescapable. Over the course of more than 20 years, Benjamin Netanyahu has made false claims about nuclear weapons programs in both Iran and Iraq, inventing imaginary timelines for their development, and making public statements that contradicted the analysis of his own intelligence advisers.
Despite this, he continues to be treated by lawmakers and media figures as a credible voice on this issue.
When Netanyahu gives his address to Congress, he can likely be counted on to say much the same thing he’s been saying for the past two decades about an impending Iranian nuclear threat, and credulous pundits and politicians can be counted on to believe him.

What a load of B.S. this article is. The author must be a muslim jihadist.
Cry wolf??? I think we need to pay heed to his warnings…Cry wolf??? People who think this is just hot air; Do we need to wait until something catastrophic occurs, then sit back, scratch our heads and say…”Perhaps, we should have listened”…..Why childish behavior is that??? Get your heads out of the sand and pay attention…If you were not a believer in the word of God before, perhaps it is a good time to learn it…At the very least…Study the history of this world and see the similarities of prediction of the actual events unfolding before our very eyes…May God save this world and our once great nation…Dear Lord, please enlighten the non-believers and protect those who believe, Amen
What a pathetic show at Congress. And even more pathetic all those elected officials having a foreigner tell them how to handle foreign policy. Would be interesting to keep track of those who did NOT attend – if they attempt to get re-elected in 2016 and then fail on account of the Jewish Lobby. Yes, crying wolf too often and one time too many might prove dangerous.
since mossad says that iran is not performing activities to build a nuclear weapon, I don’t see why we should argue about it. Case closed.
So how did ISRAEL assist AMERICA with the Russian nuclear threat? Israel HELPED OUR ENEMIES.
Julius Rosenberg and Ethel Greenglass Rosenberg were JEWISH-American sayanim executed for conspiracy to commit espionage, relating to passing information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union (zionist communists).
By far the most egregious damage done by Johnathan Pollard was to steal classified documents relating to the US Nuclear Deterrent relative to the USSR and send them to Israel. According to sources in the US State Department, Israel then turned around and traded those stolen nuclear secrets to the USSR in exchange for increased emigration quotas from the USSR to Israel. Other information that found its way from the US to Israel to the USSR resulted in the loss of American agents operating inside the USSR. Casper Weinberger, in his affidavit opposing a reduced sentence for Pollard, described the damage done to the United States thus, “[It is] difficult to conceive of a greater harm to national security than that caused by… Pollard’s treasonous behavior.”
This should end the suggestion that Israel’s spies are harmless. They are not. The United States’ nuclear deterrent cost an estimated FIVE TRILLION taxpayer dollars during the 50s and 60s to build and maintain, and less than $100,000 for Pollard to undermine. Israel waited 13 years to admit Pollard had been spying for them, and now lobbies for his release, having granted him Israeli citizenship.
Israel SELLS America’s drone/military technology to China ….. Israel has helped China LEAP forward with America’s technology.

The Israeli Defense Ministry’s Head of Defense Export Control, Meir Shalit, resigned last week after the United States expressed anger over a decision he made to sell sensitive military equipment to China, Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported on Sunday. At the time, Shalit did not provide a reason for his resignation.Washington asserted that his authorization of the sale of a miniature cooling system for missiles was in direct violation of Israel’s preexisting obligations to the United States.

March 3rd,2015 The DAY of SHAME
On this day the republicans brought an outsider into AMERICA’S HOUSE to fight their FAMILY fight for them . Boehner brought a foreigner into AMERICA’S HOUSE to argue a FAMILY dispute. Those were not “standing ovations” …. they were yellow-bellied-groveling In front of the entire World the republican party groveled to an alien politician, in their desperate, failed, attempt to publicly shame the President of the United States. The republicans SHAMED America and destroyed what patheticly tiny scrap of honor congress had left. Only filthy cowards drag outsiders into a FAMILY arguement. Johnny Boehner could not even find enough testosterone to wait until after that disgrace, before he folded on his limp-wristed “stand” against ILLEGALs . Boehner folded on ILLEGALS as he was bringing in a FOREIGNER to fight his battles for him ….. The World is laughing in derision …… at republicans, not the PRESIDENT.
People who have a disdain for someone else deeply rooted in hatred will spread slander, lies and libel without second thought.
This isn’t even a proper nor acceptable paraphrase.
False Quote:
“If Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, this could presage catastrophic consequences, not only for my country, and not only for the Middle East, but for all mankind,” adding that, “the deadline for attaining this goal is getting extremely close.”
Actual Quote:
“The most dangerous of these regimes is Iran, that has wed a cruel despotism to a fanatic militancy. If this regime, or its despotic neighbor Iraq, were to acquire nuclear weapons, this could presage catastrophic consequences, not only for my country, and not only for the Middle East, but for all mankind.
…
Only the United States can lead this vital international effort to stop the nuclearization of terrorist states. But the deadline for attaining this goal is getting extremely close.”
I’m not worried about Iran. Obama’s got this. Look how he handled Assad in Syria. Look how he faced down Putin in the Ukraine. Look how he characterized ISIS as the “junior varsity’ (JV). Look how he got to the bottom of Benghazi.
Why is Israel so hell bent on preventing Iran from having nuclear weapons. So they can do to Iran what they have done to Palestine and continue to do. Every nation has a right to defend and protect its sovereignty. The same kind of lies with Iraq has gotten the US in a perpetual war.
So who’s your daddy now America? Obama or Netanyahu? The Republican congress seems to believe that its daddy is Netanyahu. And he enthusiastically agrees. W
Netanyahu forgot to bring his rendition of a time bomb with him when he spoke to Congress. Obama has been put on the defensive. He doesn’t understand why BiBi is causing trouble now. Obama has stopped funding of UNESCO because his threats against Abbas went nowhere and the Palestinians sought a seat at the UN. He kicked the Palestinians to the curb once more by vetoing their request to end their occupation at the UN. He has stopped all aid to the Palestinians including that which would be used for rebuilding. It is easier for Israel to build settlements if they only have to move rubble out of their way. He has supported the $ 4.6 billion in military aid to Israel. He has added the loan guarantees to make it more acceptable. He has to prepare the American people for war with Iran. It became a little harder because other countries are involved, although many are his lackeys. Poor Obama, so far the US is only involved in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Libya. He has even turned his gaze on Ukraine. So many countries to bomb, so many lethal arms to sell, and yet Netanyahu is not satisfied. Obama sent his people to AIPAC hoping to show his undying love for the Netanyahu government. He’s just asking for a little more time to fulfill his duty regarding Iran. The current drama seems so scripted when Obama continues to say there is less than a 50/50 chance an agreement will be reached. Preparation is everything. And for those who view the US as an outlying settlement oF Israel, Netanyahu was just giving his State of the Union message as leader to his followers.
You give the prime minister too much credit. His recent performance in Washington is nothing more than a desperate election bid. His credibility at home is fading rapidly, and his chances of re-election are slim. Netanyahu wouldn’t have risked his relations with the US administration if it was otherwise. And Boehner, with his never ending appetite for drama, is more than happy to arrange a spectacle for him on Capitol Hill.
Truer words couldn’t be spoken. It is all smoke and mirrors. The Obama administration is so anti-Semitic that Joe “I am a Zionist” Biden light a giant menorah on the White House lawn last Hannukah but in my New England town you can’t hang up Christian symbols during Christmas on main street……..
When did Britain get disconnected from responsibility for Israel? Wasn’t that area British territory when Israel was established? Maybe the Brits were happy to sever ties with that place, the Middle East? That place has been trouble for millennia. In 1492 Cristopher Columbus set out to find another way to Asia because the ” Silk Road ” went right through that screwed up place.
Why academia hasn’t used the Middle East to study the personal and social life of cave men is confusing to me? Maybe that’s where the Neanderthals and Cromagnons went? Why Jews want to live amongst apes and expect non-ape behaviors doesn’t make sense?
The British responsibility ended when a bunch of reactionary European Zionists decided they were God’s chosen people, gathered up a whole bunch of people displaced from the Holocaust, and terrorized the locals and colonial Brits.
The article missed the whole point. The warmongering tactics of the psychopath only serves to change the subject, which happens remarkably in this article.
The subject is, has been and will be PALESTINE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES.
Thank you for this website. Keep going!
There’s something really wrong with the world when a person responsible for killing thousands, many of them children, just 6 months ago gets 25 standing ovations ?#?NetanyahuSpeech?
It is time that we faced up to the fact that our Middle East foreign policy is being dictated by Israel. There is a block of very pro Israel Jewish voters, led by AIPAC, that use the Jewish vote in some critical electoral areas, combined with some large campaign donors, to pull our policy toward a pro Israel stance. Then there is an even larger block of evangelical Christian voters who believe that when enough of the world’s Jews have returned to Israel, the second coming of Christ will occur. This political alliance has cowed the American government into making Israel the largest recipient of American aid, and into supporting Israel even when it acts aggressively, even when it violates countless UN resolutions and even when it confiscates Palestinian land for new settlements. I have been, until recently, a supporter of Israel, but I believe we should do what’s best for America, and hold Israel as accountable for its actions as we would any other country.
Well, he brought his bomb cartoon and his tin cup. All he needed to mesmerize the idiots in Congress. Say what you want about the unhinged leader of Israel; the servile slugs in the US Congress invited him to address them. They’ll now vote him a big pile of money and he’ll slip some of it back to them for their re-elections. If Congress was the business world they’d all be in jail for taking kickbacks.
My concern is that, when Netanyahu derails our talks with Iran, he’ll expect the U.S. to send our boys to fight his war.
Could our politicians be even more servile and more willing to give it all away to their foreign paymasters? The short answer is “yes, they could”. Just watch!!! (lol)
I remember reading somewhere about these parasite fungi that somehow manage to poison the ants’ little brains and make them do what’s good for the ants. Well… we have the parasites and we have the little brains so, why not?
omg!!! correction.
I remember reading somewhere about these parasite fungi that somehow manage to poison the ants’ little brains and make them do what’s good for the FUNGI. :))))
As in, Netaniahu and the lobbies are the parasite fungi and ‘we’ are the stupid ants on mind-bending drugs (yes, it’s ‘we’ because we do elect our politicians fair and square and we do allow this sick ‘two-party’ system to perpetuate itself and grow)
ohhh… correction, of course. Should have been:
fungi that somehow manage to poison the ants’ little brains and make them do what’s good for the FUNGI, not for the ants.
Remember the U.S.S. Liberty!
Amen and say a prayer for the US servicemen that the Israelis murdered that day. And they completely got away with it. Not a peep from even the most bellicose in DC; just plain disgusting.
I think mr. netanyahu has already lost, so he is definitely lower case, and no longer worth capitaliizing. I pay attention to Shakespeare , so: mr. n. suits so many quotes so well. ” He jests at scars that never felt a wound,” and “Uneasy lies the head that wear the crown,” fit him perfectly.
If he wants to criticize Iran , a member of the IAEA, then maybe Israel should join the IAEA, or mr. n. should just sit down and shut up.
mr. n has lost any steet creds that he might have had, and when the crazy congress tries to cut more of the social safety net, then the American people of all religions, or no religions at all, will demand that Israel’s
3 billion dollar a year money gets cut before the citizens of America lose even a penny.
Just what was it about Iran that was not true? They have stated that they intend to wipe Israel off the map. They obviously are an exponent of terror and have proven that they will not let inspectors inspect. If we do not stop Iran by treaty, Israel will have no alternative but to attempt to destroy the nuclear capability. We were just being told what a country must do to protect itself if we do not get a proper treaty. Who is the liar in all of this?
Question: “Just what was it about Iran that was not true?”
Answer: “They have stated that they intend to wipe Israel off the map.”
A Wake The Fuk’ Up Production
“Just what was it about Iran that was not true? [….] They obviously are an exponent of terror and ”
Actually – Mossad is the great exponent of terror, especially the false flag operation, eg the Argentine bombings, Charlie Hebdo for starters

what you need (US guys) is another 9/11 to understand terror is reality, similar to what u see with ISIS in EU
I’m sure Mossad can arrange it
He lied in front of Congress back in 2001 when he was pushing for us to invade Iraq for HIS agenda.
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/02/10/republicans-netanhayu-charge-u-s-foreign-policy-bush.html
“There is no question whatsoever that Saddam was seeking nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said, misleading Congress in 2002. He claimed Iraq had Centrifuges “the size of washing machines” to produce the A-bomb. And as Cole wrote, “He said that Israeli intelligence reported to him that Russian scientists and North Korea were on site and actively aiding this phantom nuclear weapons program.”
And he’s lying today. This man is not our ally or our friend. He seeks to embroil us in HIS problems at our cost. We should send him down the road.
My theory is that the motivation for Netanyahu’s behavior is the promotion of antisemitism. What?? It goes like this: He and his allies are committed to the establishment of a Jewish state that encompasses all of Judea. But there is a problem with that, and it’s demographics. As a group, the Muslim Israelis are more prolific than the Jewish ones, and as a result, at some point, the majority of the inhabitants of Israel won’t be Jews if nothing is done. Now, the right wing in Israel is doing all it can to make it uncomfortable for the non-Jews (and even certain Jews, by the way) to live there, but short of exterminating them the tactic is not working well enough. So the solution is to promote antisemitism in other countries, then appeal to the Jews in those countries to move to Israel. We’ve seen a recent example of that in France, for instance, and the program (no pun intended) has been highly successful in eastern Europe. But Bibi must watch his step with the US: If all the US Jews were to heed his call (highly unlikely, I agree) where would he get his funding?
I don’t much care what Netanyahu does. The idea of MY representatives groveling on their bellies to foreigners for a handful of campaign dollars is
annoying.
That is where you make the mistake: they are not your representatives. You elect them, and that is all you do. They represent the various lobbies that crawl all over Washington. And that does not include you and me, the little people.
If you read the Israeli press you can see that many think Netanyahu has become unhinged. Some may even see him as Ted Cruz type. He also is clearly performing this stunt as a boost for his re-election bid, I don’t think it will work.
“I’m suspending my campaign to go to Washington and deal with the Iran crisis.”
I think the man has become unstable.
Bibi reminds me of holly roller fanatics: forever prophesizing the immanent end of the Earth, continually doing everything possible to make such a self-fulfilling prophecy, and continually being wrong all the same.
Why would Bibi cry wolf again? Why not. Netanyahu has learned from Kim Jong Il what the newspapers have known for some time -FEAR & SENSATIONALISM SELL!
This has been the mantra of the US secret police state ever since 9/11.
Just last week BushTheLesser’s point man (Tom Ridge) just gave the pronouncement that the new proposed Inglewood football stadium site was “terrorist event twofer” because it was in the final approach to LAX. Yes the IDIOT Tom Ridge who took 6 months to come up (and spent who knows how many milliion$) with a color coding system (LOL) to warn of the possibility of a terrorist attack -something any child with a set of crayons could have come up with in less than 60 seconds. City officials, aviation experts and the FAA all dispute Ridge’s conclusions.
Just more fear mongering from Bibi & Ridge. Silly wabbit, tricks are for kids.
Israel and bibi suffer extreme paranoia..we..the u.s..are the only country that supports the israeli. the whole region hates them so they keep coming up with this stuff. For gods sake they SPY on us!!!!!..dont trust them ant further than you can throw them…Boehner should be tried for treason
What a vicious deceptive little man.
This is what we will all have the pleasure of watching today as Netanyahu, “The Butcher of Tel Aviv”, addresses a Joint Session of Congress:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=asGvjbfIASA
I will be watching and feeling a rush of shame and nausea each time every member of our Congress jumps to their feet to applaud the man who ordered the war crimes we all witnessed against the caged Palestinian people just last summer.
What a pathetic embarrassment these members of Congress are.
Agreed! The issue with Iran having a nuclear bomb is garbage! All other issues under the nuclear umbrella such as Natanyahou’s reelection, skimming more money from the US, stealing more Palestinian land, opposing 2 state solution, expansion of Israel to eventually include Syria, Lebenan and may be Jordan over time are very difficult subjects to be explained to the world. But fear of another country having a nuclear bomb is very well understood by the entire world!!
The 2 state solution is dead. The settlements have fragmented the area, its not even contiguous strips of land. The best Palestinians can hope for would be full Israeli citizenship and representation in government.

Yet the fact remains that the only country to actually use nuclear weapons on civilian cities is the USA and they did it twice, caring nothing for the devastation created by the first. Recently Fallujah copped a heavy dose of depleted uranium from US armour piercing weapons, again with no visible care for the population either during, or after, the bombardment. Are these really the people who should be making decisions about global nuclear matters?
Netanyahoo is probably right about Iran having nukes. They are a pretty well advanced country technologically, and they haven’t been engaged in much fighting or internal problems for more than twenty years now. So they are in a pretty good position to have developed some nukes. Our great friend Pakistan has shared the nuke technology with all their friends in the region, so it would really surprise me if Iran didn’t have any nukes. Does Obama know about it? Sure he does, which is why he is trying to dissuade Bibi from being too adventurist.
bibi doesn’t even claim Iran has nukes, just that they are on the verge. Like they have been for 20+ years. Nuclear technology, or lack thereof, isn’t holding anyone back so that argument is nonsensical.
U.S. Agencies See No Move by Iran to Build a Bomb

Since when did classified information become freely posted on the internet? In fact, the converse is usually true.
Hey, Herc: how often does the corporate media or US political establishment remind the American public what the intelligence community knows? Seldom ever. No, instead what we are told is innuendo and insinuation and lies–hyped, alarmist, fearmongering in which Iran is portrayed as an America-hating super-threat.
The Risen piece above is an exception in the ocean of lies in which the public is immersed.
Greenwald has addressed this inversion of menace and victim before.

how often does the corporate media or US political establishment remind the American public what the intelligence community knows?
You have mentioned four distinct entities, plus there is one important player. They are:
A) Corporate media, B) US political establishment, C) Intelligence community, D) American public and E) The Super-rich.
Their relationships are like this:
1) A, B and C are all servants of E.
2) D is the enemy of E.
So when you said “Seldom ever” you can see why it is so.
Now, about Iran”s nuclear status. As a country Iranians are pretty much technologically advanced. For a while they were financially challenged while Saddam was waging war on them. After that also the sanctions have slowed down their progress. However, if North Korea can develop the atom bomb there is no conceivable reason why Iran cannot. They are much better placed to do this despite all the sanctions.
>”Since when did classified information become freely posted on the internet?”
*fyi, anonymous officials freely post classified information in the NYT all the time … and I think we can rule out any of them are Edward Snowden.
No amount of evidence, including intelligence by Israel’s own Mossad will convince Bibi and his friends because it is not about nuclear weapons at all!
Mr. Dershowitz was on TV the other day and when the other guest told him that the assessment of every intelligence agency in the US, UK, CAN, the cables from SA, and conclusion of Mossad was that Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapon, he quickly changed to subject to Nazi’s and then he said that it can’t be true because if it was “real intelligence” it would not be known!
You see the argument! If it is leaked it can’t be true unless it meets the goals of Bibi and Dershowitz.
shut up you liberal jackass! Whoever is against Israel is against the creator
Against the creator of chaos indeed.
There isn’t a single thing against ISRAEL here, you conservative moron. It’s scrutinizing Netanyahu, NOT Israel.
Noone should have nuclear weapons. Simplistic as that may sound, it’s the only effective deterrent to nuclear war and the ensuing apocalypse. Weapons are designed and built to be used, not for just sitting there costing money. Speak up people. The only way to go is getting rid of all military weapons. Now that’s radical. No tanks, land mines, rockets, fighter or attack or bomber aircraft, machine guns, artillery, napalm, phosphorus shells and grenades and bombs. The whole world seems armed to the teeth but there’s always one group who’s under armed so we might as well be the one to sell them arms. If they can’t afford it we’ll extend credit.

Does anyone else feel this site would be better off without the pro-Muslim borderline antisemitic agenda that it constantly regurgitates? Islamic fanaticism is arguably the biggest external threat America faces. I think that while Israel is a duplicitous and untrustworthy ally, at least the Jews aren’t decapitating my countrymen in barbaric videos and calling for terroristic attacks on American soil.
I find it troubling that The Intercept, instead of remaining neutral in this confict, has clearly chosen sides.
How many Jewish people is “your country” Bombing ? Maybe ” your country” should stop interfering in Muslim countries…installing brutal dictatorships over them…droning them whenever the mood strikes. Publications like The Intercept are doing a service by holding the U.S. govt and its beligerent mini me Israel accountable . I commend them for this.
To be perfectly honest I can’t help but think of ‘what’s left of the Jewish people’ as slaves, and very disposable hostages to r1b intel.
Hit a responsive cord Nathan? Maybe you should stop listening to that wild eyed jackass Peter King.
Israel whined and cried in “fear” from the threat of secular dictatorships on their borders and not (Iraq, Libya, Syria). So at the behest of their never ending crying, we used the pretext of 9/11 to “sweep up all things related to and not” according to Rummy’s memos. Out went the eeeeeevil dictators and our version of disaster capitalism masked as democracy brought nothing but chaos to Iraq, anarchy in Libya and stalemate in Syria. And here, here’s another one for the Shock Doctrine record books in the Ukraine as well.
Palestinians screwed out of ever getting their own country. Profitable chaos for some, misery for many. Israel gets what she wants as usual: a whole region like Palestine to play re-election football with.
People are no longer afraid to be called anti-semitic for calling Israel out on their BS.
Show me some out of work actors, and I’ll you some candidates for fake propaganda videos of the lamest kind.
Indeed. Like, for instance, the US Air Force.
http://archive.airforcetimes.com/article/20110916/NEWS/109160334/Schwartz-Don-t-endorse-religious-programs
Evangelical evangelization has been pervasive at the Academy and, apparently, in the nuclear forces, as the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF dot org) has been pointing out over the years. No, we don’t want apocalyptic messianic believers with nukes. Would be bad for our precious bodily fluids.
I seem to remember a briefing given to the Pentagon by the General Peachfuzz. With all the charts and diagrams even Bullwinkle was confused. If that in itself wasn’t Badanov even Fearless Leader was pushing escalation…….
Yes, and remember that George W. Bush told Jacques Chirac that the invasion of Iraq had to do with the biblical end-times prophecy of Gog and Magog.
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/andrewbrown/2009/aug/10/religion-george-bush
President Chirac seems to have been mystified by that assertion enough to try to decipher it, instead of assuming that the leader of the free world was either très fou ou très bourré when he placed that call.
Dear Gog.
Particularly those that stem from Judeo-Christain roots.
Those religious factions generally have textbooks which incorporate exclusive rules which include claims of “chosen” status or exclusion from “heaven” and condemnation to “hell” if one does not comply with the organizational rules.
Then there is the potential of “Apocalyptic” activity which oddly resembles nuclear holocaust and could easily be re-created as a form of self-fulfilling prophesy to suit the needs of the “church” organization or corporate control monopoly.
Any organization which attempts to impose barriers and organizational rules between the spirit and soul of any living entity and the creative force within the universe is a violation of universal law.
Bottom line here is that it is imperative at this time in the historical progression of the United States of America to keep church and state separate.
Netanyahu’s bomb diagram and evidence of Saddam’s WMD (washing machine devices) must be challenging for any curious scientist to find out how to make it work????. No doubt we all have reason to be fearful about the future of the middle east.
Hahaha, WMD! Nicely put.
It’s amazing how much amnesia there is in both media and goverment.
BB began his sky-is-falling political career in ’92, but a year later, the Arms Control Reporter revealed that the Revolutionary Guards had bought four Soviet weapons during the collapse of the Soviet empire in ’91. A few years later a Congressional committee came into possession of Iranian government emails congratulating the Guards for obtaining these weapons. (Apparently they paid $25 million for all four–a steal.) Then in 2002, Russian General Yuri Baluyevsky revealed that Iran was indeed a nuclear power. And who better to know what happened to those missing warheads?
Apart from those reports, it’s evident that the entire Iranian program is directed to producing plutonium, which would be necessary to duplicate Soviet bombs. All the parts for a plutonium program can be found in news stories, from the experiments with implosion (necessary for plutonium bombs, but not for uranium) to the removal of fuel rods from their Bushehr power reactor at the center-cut time for extracting weapons-grade plutonium. So this is likely why the US is finally ready to cut a deal. They tried to overthrow the Iranian government with $400 million dumped into the green movement, and that failed, and the sanctions failed, and now Iran has several dozen weapons (or enough plutonium for that many) as well as a much improved delivery vehicle–that stealth drone the CIA gifted them, which they have now reproduced.
None of what you’ve written has been substantiated except the hundreds of millions spent by the US (plus another couple of billion for covert activities)… not the sales… not the weapons program… not the enrichment.
Please stick to the facts.
Thanks.
Everything I’ve stated has been published in respectable journals, and I did’t say anything about enrichment, did I? Enrichment to weapons grade would only be necessary for uranium bombs, and if Iran is using their Soviet bombs as prototypes, they are building plutonium bombs. That only requires chemical extraction from the fuel rods (which they’ve been caught doing in the past). The low-level uranium enrichment for fuel rods we all know about. That they manufactured their own rods was trumpeted as a national success several years ago. And it certainly was, as they needed new rods to replace the Soviet rods from their power reactor. Beyond that, do you dispute Yuri Baluyevsky’s statement? He certainly seems a reliable source, being a former chief of staff.
Unsubstantiated assertions are not proof.
Don’t follow in Bibi’s footsteps.
Provide this evidence that has eluded the IAEA, our intelligence agencies, and every reporter covering the topic.
Your claims are not facts.
You, like our government, will not admit they have nuclear weapons until they test one, but the design they’re using is a proven Soviet design and they’re not going to use one unless they’re attacked. And that’s why we haven’t attacked and Israel hasn’t attacked. Instead we’ve tried to overthrow their government from within and crash their economy. Didn’t work. Now a state of MAD exists and no one wants to admit it for political reasons. Iran won’t admit it either because they are copying Israel’s policy of “nuclear ambiguity.” They deny they have them or even want them, but then they say they could kill half of Israel’s population with just three missiles. They say they could destroy all our bases in the region with missiles. They say these things, leaving it for the non-morons (and thus not the MSM) to figure out what it means.
JC- going with the “because I said so” or “because he said so” argument just isn’t convincing.
I’m sure you can understand why.
The “they say could kill half of Israel’s population with three missiles” or “they say they could destroy all our bases” claims are likewise suspect, since no such statements have been made publicly or reported anywhere.
I’m sure I’m not the only one curious about your information sources, but since you aren’t inclined to provide any evidence, I am left with no choice but to dismiss all of your claims.
I am still open to reviewing your evidence if you change your mind though.
I have no stake in maintaining some secret MAD status quo.
However, if you are correct (big if), it would sure blow a hole in the oft-repeated neolibcon “if they get nuclear weapons they will use them” justification for our cyber war, covert actions. and economic sanctions.
After all, having them for twenty years and never using them proves that argument to be false…
… not to mention Bibi’s endless claims.

@altohone
I tried to post a long comment yesterday with various sources, but the Intercept failed to post it. So seems that censorship is everywhere.
JC- How about trying several shorter comments with the evidence for each claim?
I don’t post links, but apparently some people have trouble when doing so.
There’s always the option of cutting and pasting the relevant text too… I appreciate that approach more actually.
Respected journals that are famous for their Iraq yellow cake and WMD stories?
Since we’re speculating, I could say the nuke North Korea tested was actually Iran’s. Iran comes off as more technically savvy, and they have better access to resources (not necessarily related to nuclear weapons development) in general. North Korea is basically a rogue state with few allies. Iran still plays ball with quite a few countries. There are a lot more embassies in Tehran than Pyongyang.
Actually, the US and Israel are rogue states
You must also be an antivaxxer, a Birther, and a Denier, too. That you ignore that 1) taking weapons grade material and putting it in the sort of nuclear power and medicine reactors that Iran has is the method of destroying weapons grade material the US demands be followed in its deals to reduce the number of nuclear warheads. 2) Every microgram of enriched material removed from the Iranian medical reactor (a reactor that the ‘nuclear weapon mad Mullahs’ had redesigned to run on low enriched uranium, rather than weapons grade uranium, which was the plant and the fuel the US was willing to put in the hands of its pet Iranian dictator, the Shah) remains fully accounted for, and rechecked by the IAEA inspectors so frequently, they probably know not just the schedule of what food is offered when in the storage facility lunchroom, but the names of the husbands and wives of the lunchroom staff.
It seems reasonable to me to do everything in your power to stop your arch enemy from getting a nuclear weapon. Apparently, a lot of Republicans in Congress hold my viewpoint. I am not a Republican, but I am appreciative of them in this instance. Historically, most Jews in this country have been Democrats, but if President Obama acts this way (disrespecting Netanyahu) and Republicans act in the polar opposite way then a lot of Jewish Americans are going to become Republicans. Also, a lot of Christian Americans that support Israel are also going to become Republicans. President Obama shouldn’t be so quick to piss part off his Democratic base of support.
I would further add, that even if people in Congress don’t agree with every point that Netanyahu makes, they are not inviting him to Congress with a contract to agree with everything he states, but merely to listen to him speak.
In the United States office holders take an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States. Not the Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, .. way of life.
We value our friends, but we ask our friends to respect us and our way of doing things. When friends poke a stick in our eyes by ignoring our traditions for “heads of states visit” and come to a State Visit ignoring The President, while at the same time they constantly ask us to have our sons and daughters fight for them on foreign soil, and ask us to pay for their wars, … those of us who care about our values, our constitution, our traditions, get wary.
“Others” may have split loyalties, or loyalties to “others”, and we ask “others” to reconsider and uphold the constitution and its traditions. But, “others” may not wish to, and instead threaten that they will all turn Republicans. Well, then so be it!
So then it doesn’t occur to you that those who you say are of the, “historically, most Jews in this country have been Democrats” crowd think that Netanyahu is a dangerous liar, same as millions of other people see him, and so won’t be, “going to become Republicans” just because Netanyahu is making an ass of himself showing up at congress to tell the same pack of lies that he has been telling for decades?
By the way, “a lot of Republicans in Congress” don’t necessarily hold your viewpoint. Republicans in Congress are pretty much all about opposing Obama just for the sake of opposing Obama; even when their supposed opposition is nothing but a show.
See segment of Noam Chomsky on Democracy Now from this morning. He addresses that: Noam Chomsky– Democracy Now
It’s worth remembering that Bibi is a head of government, which is to say, he heads up a cabinet and a political party — and he’s in the middle of a very tight election, so he may be out of a job in a few weeks. Hardly worth the deference a ceremonial head of state, say, Israel’s president, who would merit a red carpet, the Marine Corps band and a state dinner. Bibi is a politician, about on a par with John of Orange, so disrespect is hardly out of line. And if he wanted to speak, he could always have gotten his Washington-area friends to hire a venue. He could even have gone to CPAC and made it a twi-night doubleheader.
What Bibi may very well do, if he overplays his hand, is damage the Israel-US relationship. He may be in the opposition in a few weeks but the damage could outlast him.

It seems reasonable to do everything in your power except supporting a negotiation that will actually accomplish the goal you mean.
That is the nonsense that amounts to shooting yourself in the foot (and shatters the right winger dream of gaining political advantage).
this piece by Ali Abunimah reminds readers not to get confused by the nationalist and partisan talking points:

I’m nearly certain that this time some corporate journalist will ask for proof that substantiates Bibi’s claims.
Statistically speaking, it almost has to happen by accident at least.
Here’s a better question for Netanyahu:
Does Israel have nuclear weapons?
So, we keep hearing this schtick every few years. Very old story.

GWEN IFILL: … today’s address by the Israelite leader before the Senate. For analysis we have David Brooks of the Neapolis Times, and Mark Shields, syndicated columnist. Welcome, gentlemen.
MARK: Thank you, Gwen.
GWEN: So, King Herod is here at the invitation of the consul, Aemilius Sejanus.
MARK: And not by the Tiberius Administration. Rather extraordinary breach of etiquette.
DAVID: Mr. Sejanus is not going to win many friends in Tiberius’ palace.
MARK: Tiberius is off in Capri and busy with his little friends. Herod wouldn’t be on his radar, if we had radar.
DAVID: As the leader of the world’s Jews, Herod did want to cite their “special relationship” with Rome – and warn of an existential threat out of Persia. He wants Rome to intervene.
MARK: Seems like we tried that during the First Triumvirate. Lost an entire army out there to a Parthian counterattack, didn’t we?
DAVID: Nonetheless, Herod wants his allies on Capitoline Hill to help Israel defend itself against the Parthian threat.
MARK: So, why don’t they?
DAVID: He’s our ally. A couple of legions wouldn’t hurt keep him going.
MARK: He’s a tyrant and a usurper and now he wants the full faith and credit of Rome?
DAVID: Well, he does have a way with children.
MARK: Very funny.
DAVID: So does Tiberius, in a way.
GWEN: (cough) And now we go live to Capitoline Hill.
CENTURION AT ARMS: Mr. Speaker, Mr. Consul, members of the Senate, I have the great honor to present His Majesty, Herod the Great, Tetrarch of Judaea, Lord of Samaria, Grand Nazgul of Galilee and (reads scroll) such and such. (fanfare by MGM orchestra as Herod ascends to the dais)
(to be continued, but first this is pledge week)
Hysterical and so succinctly apt.

Not another WMD speech with cardboard cutouts.
Just one more comment on Netanyahu’s personal background.

You are well beyond the soul of tact on this issue Mr. Hussain.
Anyway…this article was a nice move that RT appreciated.

” As The Intercept reported Monday, Netanyahu has repeatedly sounded the alarm over Iran’s supposed impending nuclear weaponry for the last two decades. One of those instances came during a speech during a joint session of the US Congress in 1996.”
Nice graphic there, Bibi. That is right down there with the aluminum tubes showcase by Colin Powell.
What a piker.
And who could ever forget the Niger yellowcake?

“There he goes again,” I said to myself upon hearing recently BiBi’s latest paranoid clarion call to stop the bomb. Iran’s alleged bomb, of course, not any of the dozens of nuclear weapons that Israel has already been aiming at Iran and other Middle East targets for decades. Not any of those bombs, which are only an Israeli ultra-nationalist leader’s wet dream away from incinerating millions of innocent Iranian citizens, who have nothing with which to defend themselves.
The pink elephant that is Israel’s having an estimated 80 nuclear warheads to Iran’s 0 nuclear warheads remains in the room in full view of anyone not blinded totally by their allegiance to Israel. In reality, merely possessing dozens of nukes already and surely having dozens of them pointed Iran’s way, in addition to having previously made statements alluding to their willingness to go nuclear on a first strike basis, makes Israel, by far and by any measure, the genuine nuclear threat in the Middle East, not Iran, which has yet to produce a single warhead and has no nuclear strike capability of any kind at this time.
It’s way past time for the American people to start realizing what most of the rest of the world already knows because it’s so obvious: Israel under Netanyahu, supported by his Israeli and American cronies, is the clearest nuclear threat in the Middle East and the world. I just don’t know how you can rationalize the situation as being anything else. Netanyahu’s annual dog and pony show of fear has worn too thin. Time to try a new act in Israel.
This one from The Independent’s Robert Fisk expands this: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/the-difference-between-america-and-israel-there-isnt-one-10078658.html
Don’t Israelis feel they are becoming the laughing stock of the world for having the warmongering blithering idiot for PM?
So to extrapolate from the original parable about crying wolf, once no one any longer believes Netanyahu, the Iranians will actually develop a nuclear bomb.
However, if Israel wishes to have a voice in discussing the nuclear programs of other countries, it should sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Its actions are based on the premise that it isn’t subject to any constraints on its own nuclear program. Treaties such as the NPT are effective only if all nations agree to them, since the only incentive to signing the treaty is the expectation that other countries will sign and respect their obligations. Therefore anyone who actually considers non-proliferation of nuclear weapons to be a worthy goal, should focus their efforts on applying pressure to nations which have not yet signed, or have withdrawn from, the agreement – Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea.
Of course, there are some who maintain that the only fair system is that all countries have their own arsenal of nuclear weapons. Admittedly, this would provide a relatively speedy, if somewhat extreme, solution to many of the world’s problems.
The NPT argument isn’t allowed. They are the chosen people after all.
Is there a chink in your guile?
Your premise is showing: that the US and Israel behave more responsibly and less recklessly than Iran.
You ridicule the idea that all countries should have their own nuclear arsenals, but the question is weather one particular country — a country which has been relentlessly attacked by the US for more than sixty years — has a right to deter further depredations by what is today the world’s most reckless country.
The question is, what is Mr. Netanyahu’s real motivation? Is he trying to foment a war with Iran for reasons other than nuclear weapons? Mr. Netanyahu has said, paraphrasing, that the U.S. and its negotiating partners are being gulled by the Iranians, who are using these talks to advance their nuclear weapon program. However, could it be that the U.S. and its allies are being gulled by Mr. Netanyahu for his own, as yet unknown, reasons? Frankly, I don’t see where risking a war with Iran is a good outcome, including for Israel, but then, we may not know Mr. Netanyahu’s real motivations.
It seems like Bibi is as adept at making predictions about Iran’s nuclear capability as I am in controlling the weather. It’s raining in L.A. today, I will just wish the clouds away. What a consummate CONservative this PM is.
Oh, spare us yet another “Weapons of Mass Destruction” speech to the UN. Netanyahu continues to rework Colin Powell’s opus by changing the ‘q’ in Iraq to an ‘n’. And those poor international reps that will stay to listen should enjoy a welcome snooze.
I see the ridicule in the comments and I understand the absurdity of the fact-free assertions Mr. Netanyahu is making.
Yet, please note that the head of a foreign government has come to the US, without invitation from the President, to lecture to the US president, with the consent of the majority of the Congress who will attend his theater.
Now tell me that the US President is running US foreign policy – and, I will tell you, think again! Mr. Netanyahu just told the US president to stand down – and he has got the MSM walking lockstep with him all the way.
re: Mr. Netanyahu just told the US president to stand down
And, what? You imagine this circumstance is somehow unique to Obama? Do you really imagine that if BushTheLesser had taken Obama’s approach to Bibi, the result would have been any different? Is it that you believe, or it appears, that Obama has been told to “stand down?” Are you unable to imagine that Shrub simply chose to avoid the appearance by appearing to “agree.”
“… that Shrub simply chose to avoid …”
Yes, I agree.
My comments is not directed at the President. It is a comment about the dysfunctional state of US polity and policy wherein members of the US body politics enable a foreign leader to snub the President.
“Yet, please note that the head of a foreign government has come to the US, without invitation from the President”
Is there some kind of inviolable proper protocol where only those leaders who have been invited by our leader may come? I don’t agree with Bibi, but look at where our precious protocols have taken us. Runaway governments and all that entails when here in the US we are supposed to be the government. When was the last time you felt like you were part of the government, if ever?
You seem to be defending Bibi. Why? When was the last time a head of state gave a speech to congress over the objections of the WH? Why do you think it is okay for the legislative branch of the government to conduct foreign policy through interference? Why do you think a foreign leader should influence a debate on US foreign policy through such an overt measure that the WH comes out against it? And, what does “When was the last time you felt like you were part of the government” has anything to do with calling a wrong act a wrong act?!
Maybe some enterprising soul can set up a “bingo card” for Netanyahu’s address. I would imagine that the players could be calling “BINGO” ten minutes into his presentation. How many different ways can there be to repeat the same thing for decades. If it were a “DRINK!” game, people would be inebriated at the same pace. Netanyahu is a very dull boy. The only reasonable response to him is, Yeah, yeah…**
**http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Sidney_Morgenbesser
It’s a wonder how how many lies this man can get away with and still have Washington at his feet. As for the wolf, we all know what happened to the boy who cried once too often.
How many atrocities do his cartoons justify?
Why wouldn’t the Corporate States of America act as if NuttyYahoo is brilliant?
He is saying what they and their allies want him to say.
He will be rewarded with more weapons and standing ovations.
The shared goal is the takeover of Iranian resources and no lie is “off the table.”
The Netanyahu Unit, while not quite as specific as the Friedman Unit, has certainly been around for a longer time. I’m not sure why anyone still takes him seriously, especially after the demonstration of absurdity in 2012 at the UN.
The US politicians (Obama included) and the media have no choice BUT to take him seriously. Because he’s the boss.
