Peter Bouckaert is accustomed to being in the wrong places at the right times. As the emergencies director of Human Rights Watch, Bouckaert has reported on just about every major war and conflict in the past 20 years. He represents a new type of human rights worker — part journalist, part researcher, full-time producer of the images and words that tell us what’s happening in the stricken places we’d rather not look at. Bouckaert was among the first people to tweet out the powerful picture of Aylan Kurdi, the Syrian toddler whose lifeless body was found on a Turkish beach. He was also among the first people to obtain video footage of the terrible conditions inside the Roszke detention center in Hungary. His adept use of social media has been particularly useful for bringing his followers into the heart of the refugee crisis and, he hopes, caring enough to do something about it. Bouckaert spoke with The Intercept about his work on what might be the greatest human drama in Europe since World War II.
And I forgot to mention how much garbage they leave behind!
I am in Croatia right now and have watched on normal media like TV the entry of over 17000 “refugees” in this beautiful country. But the thing that stands out most is how they are all well dressed, have the latest I phone or smartphones, have money and that most of them are male between the age of 16 to 45. Sure there are some children and women. These get shoved to the front as soon as any camera gets near them. They come into the country in groups of about 15 to 30. In these groups are 1 to 2 women with 3 to 5 children and the rest are men in the agegroup i mentionned before.
This whole thing is staged and if this “wonderfull humanitarian” reporter activist cannot see it, why does the Intercept give him this voice to spout the retoric of the elite that will lead to all of us getting into this civil war that will decimate humanity? Again, I have seen for myself how “poor” these refugees are. Raybans on their faces, new backpacks, smoking cigarettes, laughing while they claim to be fleeing from war torn areas in the world. They are not fooling me!
They are not refugees. They are economic migrants picking and choosing their destination (Norway and Germany being top choices), passing all the safe countries where they could claim asylum on the route between their safe havens in Turkey or Lebanon (if Syrians), or from safe countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Alan Kurdi (not Aylan, as these dumb “journalists” say – calling dead Kurdish children by their Turkicized names is being actually disrespectful) had the misfortune of being related to a person who thoughtlessly left a safe haven in Turkey in pursuit of bigger benefits in Europe. His father now *returned* to his Syrian town and is giving interviews from there – that shows you just how much of a “refugee” he was.
And this emotional pornography – using cute children photos in “reporting” about the situation where 70+% of economic migrants swamping Europe are young males – is truly laughable.
It’s nice to know, though, that moronic articles like this one are having zero impact on Government policies of sane countries in Europe.
I can’t help but feel sorry for that Turkish policeman. It must have hurt.
One World….Together.
Let’s mix it up!
We’re here forever, El Trumpo.
Interesting that this White Savior also called for Western intervention & bombing of Syria on Twitter…
There are millions of Americans who would help these people if we could just get them here. We must risk much to help them even if they can never return the help to us. Compassion is the only real proof that humanity has any intelligence at all. I look forward to being able to help. Any of us who put ourselves in their position will understand their dire need for help right now….and an end to war everywhere!
I do not ever leave comments, but I wanted to thank you for all the RELEVANT REPORTING so rare now to find. Even tho these stories are heartbreaking and make me feel powerless. It is in the light of exposure that we have a chance to change these unimaginable crimes being done as we speak. Sending much Healing Light to you and all beings to end this suffering.
ditto! to william w Haywood and Magda Martine comments.
