In his statement calling for a complete ban on Muslim immigration to the United States, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump cites as a key part of his argument a discredited opt-in online survey by a far-right anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist.
The poll, from a think tank called the Center for Security Policy (CSP), reported that a quarter of the American Muslim population believe that violence against Americans is justified.
CSP is led by Frank Gaffney, a far-right activist who theorized that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government as well as the work of tax lobbyist Grover Norquist. His think tank also propagates the myth of Muslim “no-go zones” in the European Union. And Gaffney claims that the U.S. Missile Defense agency logo was altered by the Obama administration to “reflect a morphing of the Islamic crescent and star with the Obama campaign logo.”
The poll itself was conducted in a manner that was unscientific. Shortly after it was released in the summer of 2015, the Bridge Initiative at Georgetown University contacted the niche conservative pollster who conducted it, Polling Company/Woman Trend, and found out that the poll was conducted as a “non-probability based, opt-in online survey” — meaning that it has no statistical validity.
Trump also vaguely cited “Pew Research, among others.” This 2013 Pew poll asked Muslims in various countries a different question: if they thought suicide bombing in the defense of Islam was at least sometimes justified. The question was not about violence against Americans.
Among American Muslims, 81 percent said suicide bombing or other forms of violence against civilians in the name of Islam are never justified, while 1 percent said they could be often justified and 7 percent said they could be sometimes justified.
Globally, an overwhelming majority of those polled said suicide bombings were not justified. In 15 of the 20 countries surveyed, 15 percent or less said it was often or sometimes justified. The outliers were led by Afghanistan (39 percent) and the Palestinian territories (40 percent).
When it comes to the specific issue of ISIS, the vast majority of respondents in every Muslim-majority country polled by Pew were opposed to the organization. In Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority nation, ISIS yielded only 4 percent support, with 79 percent having an unfavorable view of the organization. In the Palestinian territories, 84 percent had an unfavorable view of the group; in Lebanon, a full 100 percent of Lebanese had an unfavorable opinion.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described the group the CSP poll surveyed. It was Muslims in America, not worldwide.
Only in America would a Party being fronted by someone like D. Trump not be considered a fringe group.
You can blame the Southern border crisis on the both political parties, but mainly the Democratic administration. Since the abandonment of Article 1, section 8 of the Constitution Obama has used executive orders and crucified the US Border Patrol for doing their job, and then for interior enforcement ICE who have had their hands tied. The surge of illegal immigrant children continued unabated in November, pushing the Obama administration to announce emergency measures to try to handle a problem it thought it had solved earlier this year. The morale on the border agent has dropped to an all time low, owing to the signal throughout Central and South America that you will not be turned away.
Corruption in Washington is evident, with the wealthy donors running the same old game with nothing for the American worker. I only trust in Donald Trump to bring order to government; stopping the bleeding of jobs out of the country and the rising numbers of businesses slipping away to low tax and wages in foreign countries. He will revitalize our countries economy as businesses return or find themselves paying extra taxes for sending their products to consumer America. Currently our country sinks under a serious federal deficit, while many nations have had a wonderful existence on the US dollar will begin to realize we are no longer an easy target.
More jobs for Americans and legal immigrants of all races, will stabilize a country fallen into a mild form of anarchy. Civil unrest in our cities is to me the main reason for ordinary people remain in stagnant hopelessness of no jobs. Everybody will pay their fair share in taxes, with no corporate welfare anymore. Everybody will pay something, with no exemptions. Trumps wall will stem the rushing tide of millions of more foreigners, no longer welcome under Obamas open door policy. We need to look after our own. The people who truly need aid are our seniors and our military damaged armed forces, which Obama has decimated or ignored. Go to the dark streets and you would be numbed by old servicemen just discarded like trash. Trump will build our military to be our greatest asset and even bypassing the Chinese forces numbers and dwarfing there scale of weaponry.
Donald Trump will be a real leader and not carrying any extra baggage as Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush. Trump may be a billionaire and a real estate developer but cannot be influenced by affluent donations. His interest is making as he says “America Great Again’ instead of draining our resources as this government has done.
Just two months into the new fiscal year, the amount of unaccompanied children jumping the border and getting caught is at an all-time high. So far, the U.S. Border Patrol has picked up over 10,500 — more than twice the number at the same point last year.
Also the number of families trying to cross has surged, with more than 12,500 people caught — a 173 percent increase over last year all thanks to this un-America President who has forced on the citizenry and lawful immigrants in the Department of the Politically Correct Police to expose the Liberal effort to transform the people into cringing slaves by using racism as a raw fulcrum. The family surge is accentuated the changing nature of the flow of migrants, with parents progressively more risking the journey with young offspring in tow, hoping to take advantage of what they believe are compassionate deportation policies under President Obama.
There is immense fault to go around, but the bottom line is the cost. These people are poor and uneducated and YOU the people are forced by federal and state law to intend to all their needs. We know the expenses entailed are the same as any human being, who in many cases must be cared for until they die. Our population is exploding, while our federal deficit keeps rising. The near 19 Trillion dollars are scary with no end in sight, with our own elderly retirees suffering, old soldiers, and our own share of homelessness. It will not happen under Trumps watch that for sure.
The Liberals may make a few converts through their lies, but I am not stupid to fall for their pledges of free giveaways. We already have too many Americans, who are too lazy to take a job, while there is an ever increasing load on individuals who do work, but cannot bring enough in to feed the family. My ex wife has two adult children who spends all day playing video games and smoking pot, but hopefully under trump these “deadbeats” will be cut off from welfare and will have to fend for themselves. It’s hard for me to take, when after spending 26 years on cargo ships, carrying munitions for the military.
Illegal immigration usually surges in the spring then drops in the summer and remains low through the winter months. This year the movement has defied that tendency, leaving the Obama Homeland Security scrambling to invigorate its ability to handle a problem that Homeland Security officials hoped was behind them.
“We continue to aggressively work to secure our borders, address underlying the causes, which concurs with this administrations pressure to overrun our nation with illegal aliens as new Democratic voters. Until we perceive a new presidency the future with a useless President who cares so much more for his legacy and not the populace. The future looks dismal with this present government, but their might be a spark of hope? Increases in illegal migration, while ensuring that those with legitimate humanitarian claims are afforded the opportunity to seek protection,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.
The numbers of illegal aliens is forever growing and something must be done and soon? As we enter the final year of a bungling president and his entourage we must choose a new president. For me that’s Donald Trump; his statements are straight forward, to the fact and not applied in a smooth tongued way as the 2016 pack. To me his greatest positive feature is his thick skin, against the continuous attack by the Left and Right. The other contenders are governed by there wealthy owners, who donate all the money to the crusade of keeping the power in a small group of financiers who the Hillary Clintons, Jeb Bush’s are beholden too.
The surge of Central American women and children began several years ago and peaked in May and June last year, when more than 20,000 were caught at the U.S.-Mexico border every month. By the end of last year, the numbers had dropped abruptly and Homeland Security officials were confident that they had solved the dilemma, but with a widely open border the rush of illegal aliens with undermanned Border Patrol have their limits.
The numbers have climbed increasingly this year, however, and November’s 5,615 illegal immigrant children caught at the border is the highest monthly total since June 2014, when some 10,508 were detained. Among families, the 6,476 people apprehended in November — mostly women with young children — were the most since July 2014, when 7,436 were apprehended. The vast majority of unaccompanied children and families come from three Central American countries: El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.
Under Obama administration policy, illegal immigrant children from countries other than Mexico or Canada cannot be sent home promptly. Instead, they must be processed and sent to live in municipal homes or with sponsors, awaiting court dates that often don’t arrive for years. This is the making of overpopulation and although we are a reasonable people, fervent and a nation of philanthropist people, we just cannot keep taking the waifs and strays anymore. We must have Donald Trumps wall and an more immediate recruitment of border patrol men and women and not just on the Southern Border, but our Canadian border as well to prevent (ISIL) terrorist from entry that way. Additionally we have heinous criminals crossing the border regions, and at the same time through Obamas orders, the Dept of Corrections is releasing thousands of them. And now we have the killing butchers from areas of the middle east, ready to massacre large groups of people.
We must demand an army of ICE personnel to stop business owners hiring millions of illegal aliens instead of Americans and future citizens who are not finding jobs; they are instead given to unauthorized workers. Our only tool for this is MANDATORY E-VERIFY, not some limp Optional preference for companies to bend the rules? Punishment for business and Industrial CEO, Directors and management must face fines and prison. According to a news report the middle class are fading away, but TRUMP can alleviate this problem. TRUMPS wall and MANDATED E-VERIFY is the answer.
The Pew Research Center got the same results. Is that mainstream enough, credible enough?
“Among American Muslims, 81 percent said suicide bombing or other forms of violence against civilians in the name of Islam are never justified, while 1 percent said they could be often justified and 7 percent said they could be sometimes justified.”
I find this quote more alarming than anything. A full 8 percent think violence against civilians can be justified in the name of Islam? Is there a poll that asks members of other religions the same question? I’d be interested in knowing how they rank.
What percentage of Americans think violence against civilians is justified in name of Christian Vengeance?
If you did this to every “survey” in the “news”, maybe we’d see a lot fewer of them and perhaps some more direct proof, eh?
WHO CARES WHAT TRUMP SAYS! IT DOESN’T MATTER!
We have three branches of government. Nothing he says could remotely pass any legislature. Let alone stand up to any form of jurisprudence. He would have to break no less than 3 Constitutional Amendments, abolish congress, and declare himself dictator to accomplish ANY of his said plans. They are just completely and utterly unrealistic. The last Amendment we approved was the 27th Amendment. First proposed in 1789 and not ratified until 1992. What makes you think Trump will just waltz in and abolish all of that, especially without military support?
This is politics and the only recourse right wingers have left is the dwindling radicalized knee-jerk reactionary supporters who only get stuff passed because the rest of us don’t vote regularly. TRUMP IS NOTHING BUT A SCARE TACTIC. Trump has galvanized loads of disenfranchised populist voters by spewing a rhetoric of hate and intolerance. He scared the voting population stiff. His job was to galvanize people to vote for shillary-Hillary, the Democrat who looks, acts, and speaks like an older version of the Republicans — that’s Barry Goldwater-esque Republicans for all you neophytes.
However, Bernie Sanders and the REAL populists stole all that momentum because everyone knows Hillary is just as corrupt as all the radicalized right-wingers and a corporatist to boot. She is a lawyer. A corporate lawyer. To her people are a means of production while corporations are the definition of voting citizenry. She has— and will continue to — fail the actual people of this country.
I would suffer 4 years of Trump doing and accomplishing absolutely nothing while he parades his prostitute of a wife around to the world in order to finally get all you sheep to realize that both Trump and Hillary are the same wolf leading you to slaughter and not the greener pastures the majority of Americans want and yearn for today.
I don’t agree with your comment that Trump:
“would have to break no less than 3 Constitutional Amendments, abolish congress, and declare himself dictator to accomplish ANY of his said plans.”
Congress can decide today, with it’s existing powers, to stop the entry of any or all groups of non-citizens (or legal residents) into the US. Surely, you are aware that immigration laws are created by Congress.
Further, the President has authority he can exercise in this area which would require no greater stretch than Obama has used in his orders.
Trump’s plans could be fairly easily executed, the question seems to be why are so many Americans afraid that the current administration is incapable of protecting them, or even telling the truth about the problem and its plans to deal with it?
I love this line repeated by everyone: “x% of some faction believes violence is justified against another faction.” But, nobody asks why? Is it because of the former’s religion or is it because the latter bombed the former?
We are building policies based on the numbers, not the whys of the numbers.
There are many misconceptions about muslims and Islam. Probably the most common is that it is a religion in the first place. In reality its more like a room full of drunk college kids came up with what they thought was the ideal world. One were they could do whatever they wanted to whomever they wanted and every one had to worship thier frat house.
They would be allowed to have mulitiple wives, and stone the ones that weren’t working out well. Have sex with pretty much anyone including children and animals. And should anyone disagree with their “religion”. Well…… they would just have to decapitate them.
In reality, Islam isn’t a religion, its a cult. During the last few decades we have witnessed many examples of how people can be convinced to worship just about anything and anyone. And muslims are no different. They have been raised to believe islam is a true religion even though that “religion” encourages, and condones behaviors and acts that are contrary to any civilized society on this planet.
To suggest there are muslims in the world that hate the US is not a stretch. There were BEFORE the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and there are even more now. Along with many of our own allies. The conduct of the the leadership in the US has reached an unprecedented level of crimes against its own people and humanity in general. I doubt we will see either problem fixed without a revolution which becomes increasingly less likely with each immigrant that arrives in this country.
When the United States dropped 2 million tons of bombs on Laos, nobody blamed Christianity for its horrific violence. Nobody tried to demonize the population of predominantly Buddhist peasants that made up Laos, limiting the flow of refugees out of Indochina based on religious discrimination.
http://tysongibb.net/?p=325
I recently traveled to Laos, a peaceful and gorgeous country. Sad the legacy that exists from US bombing. Thanks for shedding light on the corporate media’s propaganda.
It’s funny how your article in fact plays into Trump’s insanity. 4% of all Indonesians “support” ISIS, are 10,000,000 people.
So, 1 out of each 25 people that might come to the States, from Indonesia alone, is an ISIS supporter than. Trump will have a field day turning this around to his advantage…
This is a poor analysis. Firstly, there’s about 3-5K Indonesian immigrants to the US per year. So, at best , that’s 120 ISIS supporters. Now, that assumes that the pool that took the poll is the EXACT SAME pool that immigrates to the US. Also, that assumes that ALL supporters are active terrorists. And, it assumes that, once in the US and exposed to the different culture here, they don’t convert into non-ISIS supporters ever.
It’s interesting how muslims from the oil rich Arab states of the Persian Gulf , namely Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were intentionally excluded from participation in any of the public opinion surveys conducted by the Pew research center between 2008 and 2012.
I guess,
“covering every country that has more than 10 million Muslims except for a handful (including China, India, Saudi Arabia and Syria) where political sensitivities or security concerns prevented opinion research among Muslims,2013 pew poll, pp.7 ”
is only an excuse for not having your friends on the same list as your targets, especially when differences might not be significant or politically beneficial for partners.
And how reliable or unbiased are these results?
” Gender Imbalances: In Afghanistan and Niger, the survey respondents are disproportionately male, while in Thailand, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan they are disproportionately female…, pp. 148″
” Among Muslims who say sharia should be the law of the land, % who favor stoning as a punishment for adultery,
Afghanistan %85, Thailand %51 “
I read through the PEW research that Trump cited. PEW is perhaps the most respected non-partisan think-tank, so I am not sure how anyone would dismiss their research as unscientific. You can assess for yourself on their website: http://www.people-press.org/2011/08/30/muslim-americans-no-signs-of-growth-in-alienation-or-support-for-extremism/
I was shocked to read these statistics… I used to believe that 99.99% of Muslim Americans were against Al Qaeda terrorism. The reality, that 5% either favor or somewhat favor Al Qaeda, is way too much. Sorry to say, but I agree with Trump, and am disappointed in our leadership, who I think for years led me and other people to believe otherwise… What do you guys think about these statistics?
“Muslim Americans express favorable views of al Qaeda – 2% very favorable and 3% somewhat favorable.”
“A significant minority (21%) of Muslim Americans say there is a great deal (6%) or a fair amount (15%) of support for extremism in the Muslim American community.”
19% agree that “suicide bombing/other violence against civilians is justified”. 5% say it is rarely justified, 7% say it is sometimes justified, 1% say it is often justified.
These statistics were not at all what I imagined when politicians have said for years that only a “tiny” percent of Muslim Americans favor terrorism. It seems to me, from the above statistics, that far more than 1% favor violence and terrorism, despite the fact that even 1% could inflict significant harm on people in our country. I am really sad to read this, but I think it’s something that needs to be openly discussed, not hidden.
What portion of Americans think killing 500,000 Iraqi children with years of sanctions that denied them food and medicine wasn’t terrorism?
What percentage think circling a village for hours, days, weeks, with drones named “Predator” and “Reaper”, and then blowing some random group (well, maybe a suspect cellphone was around, somewhere) of people — mostly innocents, often children — to bloody bits isn’t terrorism.
And so on.
If this were happening in your neighborhood, to your family, and the people who were doing it had all the power, all the big guns, all the money, what might you consider an appropriate response?
Should this also be openly discussed?

To be fair, the institutional left isn’t any different. Sanders, Clinton, Obama et all all support GCC+NATO’s “Salafist Principality” project. They’re all GCC/Israeli supporting propagandists. (Tulsi Gabbard is one of the few speaking truth and asking dangerous questions, on either side of the aisle.)
Hell, it took Glenn frickin’ Greenwald half a year to acknowledge DIA’s FOIA documents. And when he finally did, he categorized NATO’s support as “inadvertent”. Get that? Greenwald, who is a bit familiar with the power of language, used the word “Inadvertent”. He did so, while linking to Hassan’s interview with the former chief of staff of the DIA. In that interview, Lt. General Flynn reported the Executive made a ‘willful decision’ to ignore their analysis. That’s CYA speak for “policy”. And Greenwald translated that into “inadvertent”. Gaslighting. It’s right in your face. And barely a blink in the peanut gallery (what up ‘bug).
Empire is a helluva drug.
But to billmon’s overarching point, “membership has its privileges”. And if we’re really concerned about Wahhabism, if the Salafi project really represents “something that must be stopped”, then an honest discourse would analyze the situation on its material grounds. Wahhabism derives from a global capital elite. It wouldn’t exist without a material-political assent. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum. So it follows, Liberal Capitalism contains Wahhabism, not the other way around. A violent political ideology may be the problem. But it ain’t the one you’re talking about. If ideology is a threat, an entire political spectrum studiously ignores its environmental composition, on one level or another.

It would not be surprising to hear that ANY group polled believes violence against America is justified because it is. Our NeoCon administrations have earned us the hatred of anyone who thinks sending drones to kill and maim innocent people is wrong. I am among that group. We need to reign in our filthy government if we want to regain the respect we once had in the world.
How many Americans think that violence against Muslims is justified? I suspect that it is more than 25%.
America frequently bombs Muslim countries on the slightest of provocations or the merest whiff of somebody there actually being a Muslim male of military age. If only 25% of Muslims think that violence against Americans is justified, I would consider that to be evidence of extreme pacifism on the part of Muslims generally.
Just left NPR comments. The loons are out tonight. Monday night football must be boring tonight. The old white obese males are touting Trumps courage to speak the truth about how the American people feel about Muslims. The Trump will say and do whatever will get him hits on media. He feels like most entertainers that any publicity is better than no publicity. Obviously his advisers “Hitler’s speeches” according to his ex wife was always by his bedside. As that as background I am sure he thinks in this day and age he can fool the rubes. TV evangelist and billionaire Trump is not serious and will change his story as often as necessary like a bad soap opera commercial. He is selling the soap. I read my media. Falling asleep in front of 24 hour TV news is a recipe for early dementia.
National Public Radio is nationalist. Very different from Public Radio.
NPR…. National Propaganda Radio.
For the sake of accuracy it is important to note that Trump only wants a temporary ban. As for “His think tank also propagates the myth of Muslim “no-go zones” in the European Union.” I thought this was a well know fact and that the police stayed out of these areas, especially the one in Brussels. In any case I think the rush of talk about American values and not in our tradition and so on are somewhat hypocritical given how we have treated Muslim nations. I suppose it is an American value by now to destroy other nations that balk at US dictates. So here is a Conspiracy Theory: Obama is bringing in a group of Muslims that can serve the same role the Jews served in Europe at one time, viz. as scape goats. Neither Blacks nor Hispanics will do as they are far too numerous. So the Muslims will work just fine. This would mean that Obama believes his idealistic goals require gangster-fascist methods–and he would hardly be the first national leader to come to this conclusion!
Fox News had to issue a correction to a story about Muslim “no-go zones” in Britain and France, so called because they operate under Sharia law and non-Muslims and police just don’t go there. Correction: No-go zones don’t actually exist.
The Muslim no-go areas in the EU is a “well known fact” amongst those Americans who uncritically consume propaganda. Tell me where one is. Give me a zipcode!
” I thought this was a well know fact and that the police stayed out of these areas” well you thought wrong!
Mr Trump is thinking that he is getting more and more popular by the day as his poll popularity is soaring. What he should be careful of is that all Muslims and a lot of secular folks will vote against him, but they are quiet now and are not revealing their choices lest they be targeted. He should not be surprised to find himself trumped by someone lower down the popularity list when they cast their votes, regardless of how they respond to the polls now.
Yeah, trumped up by some Obama clone fooling others into believing he is not a Bush clone.
I am so disappointed in The Intercept, I really thought it was going to be a thought provoking exchange of views, instead it is a half dozen progressive liberals spewing garbage…
I shall unsubscribe from this site… Good luck with the Radical Islamic Terrorist becoming your next door neighbor, or a taquiyya friend.
“I shall unsubscribe” ROFL
Bye! We’ll miss ya!
“. . . a half dozen progressive liberals . . .”
For your emotional safety, you’d better leave before you find out that many of us are way “worse” than progressive liberals.
Ditto! way, way worse in your narrow scale, Mr/Ms reason to be
You can’t be serious…
Way out there, fringe hopeful Bernie Sanders is a gun nut who voted against the Brady bill.
When the votes are cast, Democrats want the lady who can answer the phone at 3:00 AM when ISIS wants to be resupplied.
He probably got it from Alex Jones, to whom he gave an interview a few days ago…
It’s an interview you can probably learn a thing or two from. You’ve noticed that he doesn’t grant many.
The rebroadcast:
http://www.infowars.com/donald-trump-tells-all-on-the-alex-jones-show/
Wait! Lawyers, help!
Leaving aside the outrageousness of this fascist clown and his fascist sources . . .
Do we have case law on the applicability of the Free Exercise clause to immigrants and/or visa grants? Could “we” (Congress or ICE) decide to exclude an entire class of immigrants, tourists, etc. based upon religious affiliation.
“Muslims, Papists and Animists need not apply.”
I (think I) remember a case where SCOTUS held that, since loyalty oaths cannot be required of citizens they can, likewise, not be required of applicants for citizenship with religious objections to such oaths, but I can’t find a case that is specifically on point WRT visa grants and admissions.
Well, let’s put it this way:
a) Most Americans think in hindsight it would have been better to let Jews get asylum to avoid the Holocaust
b) Korematsu is still precedent. And though many denounce that, not many would actually expect us to give every Fritz and Hans fresh off the boat the free run of the country while there was a war on.
There is a lot of dangerous, fascistic ideology out there. But if our choice ends up looking like that of France — to accept an endless state of emergency, the suspension of all our rights, the end of hopes of right to private communications, right to bear arms — or to shut the doors to Muslims, or even to go unconstitutionally further than that, but only toward Muslims — which is it going to be?
Trump is dangerous, I don’t want him to be President, but it is probably better to go some of the way there and be protected at the border than to let Syrians pour in and then watch the fireworks from our cells.
Or we could stop bombing their countries?
Not responsive to my question.
And mostly a standard and boring right-wing strawman set-up, along with standard, ill-informed right-wing fear-mongering.
And, BTW, even Nino-fucking-Scalia has denounced Korematsu as shameful. If you think it is really precedential, in reality, you’re woefully misinformed.
Thanks for the false choice. One MUSLIM shooting and suddenly we have a terrorist problem?
“There is a lot of dangerous, fascistic ideology” —- right here, born & bred in the US of A. Have you NOT noticed? And if so, how? You read the articles here. What the hell.
oh, & nobody was letting Syrians or anybody else “pour in” anyway, so that’s more fake either-or binary bullshit.
Very disappointing, Wnt. You are better than this. Keep yer shoit on, as Bugs Bunny would say.
Fort Hood?
Garland?
Chattanooga?
There were more attempts, in addition to a border interception in Washington state. Then there was Times Square, when Bloomberg postulated, “Homegrown maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something.”
You sure about that Vic? It seems to be a specific brand of crypto fascist schlock tailored to liberal audiences (“Trump is dangerous… but…”).
Where I agree with Trump is that the U.S. can set immigration priorities that disfavor Muslims, and if that seems unfair, well, isn’t it just as unfair to have them disfavor any other persons instead of Muslims?
Where I disagree is that constitutional rights matter a lot to me, and I don’t want to see them infringed at all.
But if someone were going to infringe them, I’d prefer them infringed on non-citizens rather than on people on a “no-fly list” without due process, or the population as a whole.
There is a sense that admitting Muslims means giving up rights. I mean, Terry Jones is famous for his Koran-burning exercises, and if you let in 10,000 Syrians it’s not unlikely one of them is going to be having a chat with Mr. Jones. First it’s your right to burn a Koran, then it’s your right to use encryption software, then it’s your right to own a gun, then it’s your right to hold public protests or meet in groups of more than three people or to complain about the state of emergency.
Now you can say, and I’ll agree, that except for Jones’ case (though even he has endured some of the second kind) the problem there is more the abuse of Muslims as a reason to deny rights than their direct effect through rare and small acts of terror. But if you’re watching your rights go down the toilet, what is a wrong way to stop that?
Honey instead of vinegar, etc.
But yeah, I’m not going to keep doing Wnt these favors, having read some of the other current posts.
And right now, MSNBC is airing one of The Donald’s KKK rallies, err, I mean public appearances, again lending some sense of legitimacy to this rambling fool. I am simply fucking gobsmacked with what has become of the media in this nation.
Trump is about what you’d expect after 15 years of Bush and Obama. In France the political establishment is worried about Marine Le Pen and her National Front party becoming the majority, but they paved the way for her. It’s a little late for concern.
Her Big French Government just jailed her, larry. That’s what progressive leftists do to their opposition–ask Solzhenitsyn.
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/613423/Marine-Le-Pen-trial-race-Muslim-Nazi
It seems that every act of Muslim initiated terror is characterized by the political left as “blowback” – which is defined as the unintended consequence of US policies in the Muslim world. For example, the stationing of American armed forces in Saudi Arabia is often cited as the reason that Osama bin Laden engaged in acts of terror against the US. Given that US policy in the Muslim world can be the sole reason that Muslims become radicalized, then it only stands to reason that any Muslim anywhere can become radicalized at anytime in response to the ever expanding war against Islam.
If a minimum of fifteen per cent of Muslims worldwide believe that suicide bombings are a religiously legitimate expression of political dissatisfaction with the US, then the total number of potential suicide bombers is staggering. If ten thousand forcibly displaced Muslim-Syrians are allowed to enter the United States, then 1500 of them have the potential of immediately engaging in acts of terror absent any further grooming or indoctrination by known terrorist groups or other radicalized elements. This is not to say that they would be immediately predisposed to doing so. Rather, it is to reasonably weigh the statistical potential for violent outcomes given the belief that Muslims can be radicalized by little more than the mere presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia.
You don’t make any sense at all, at all, at all. It’s astounding to level of poppycock you produce. Truly astounding.
Your entire post is nonsense of the sort that is correctly referred to as “Garbage in, garbage out,” which is why, once again, I’ll waste only a minuscule minimum of my time responding, and just reduce my response to pointing out just one of the entirety of the sfb’s stuff that you posted.
From the sfb’s propagandist calling itself “Karl.”
From the article by Zaid Jilani referring to the pew poll:
@ Kitt
Wasting your time. Although I concede I like to waste a little of mine now and then demonstrating how pathetically dumb is the Karl unit.
It’s like one of those programs that likes to string together random words into purported sentences that actually sound like they could theoretically mean something. Or not.
In the Karl’s case, it’s more a case of the unit attempting to use words the unit really isn’t really programmed to compute, algorithms that the unit appears incapable of running, and output that borders on the self-refuting or illogical. I won’t even attempt to address the unit’s pathetic lack of programming regarding the concept of relevance (or in its case non-relevance) in choosing to catapult any particular piece of “evidence” into cyberspace in its vain effort to support its jabberwocky-esque premises.
Personally, I’d be embarrassed as a machine if my programming was so monumentally fucked up and filled with such glaring glitches that all that came out of it was gibberish.
This coming from the attorney who speciously claimed: “But you will likely never see “white Christian terrorist” used to describe a person who commits violence in any mainstream media source.”
And the sophist who argued that the word “boy” was “fundamentally racist.”
You are little more than a dishonest clown who has demonstrated that he will never allow the truth to get in the way of shouting down any opinion that does not comport with the views expressed by Intercept staff.
I never said that it was. The article never explicitly states against whom the suicide bombers would wage their attacks. Neither does the article provide the exact wording of the question posed in regard to the use of suicide bombings. The poll itself list the “% of Muslims who say suicide bombing in defense of Islam is often justified” as a pretext to showing the percentages from each country. As the “defense of Islam” was the only qualifying criteria, it is not unreasonable to assume that anyone who poses a threat to Islam would be a potential target of those who embrace the strategy of suicide bombing. Thus it is not unreasonable to conclude that at least fifteen percent of displaced Syrian-Muslims coming into the country are possessed of the potential to engage in an act of suicide bombing if they perceive US policy as an existential threat to Islam.
As a point of fact, those Muslims who did not agree that “suicide bombing in defense of Islam is often justified” fell into a category which said that it was only “sometimes justified.”
It was a bit more specific than that.
Of course, that fella said a lot of things, didn’t he?
Also, the IC defines blowback as an ‘information deficit’. That is to say, citizens, like yourself, who are unaware of an action of the State (usually covert), and are thus unaware of the source of its consequences. Blowback refers specifically to this state of dissonance, and its repercussions toward policy making.
To that end, Wahhabism, to the degree that it represents a threat, has been, and continues to be, implicitly and explicitly supported by the super structure you identify with (“America”). For example…
Here’s a picture from one of the textbooks, created and funded by US policy makers

They’re still being used to this day.
There has been much attributed to Osama bin Laden in the effort to paint him as the poster child of Islamic extremism in the post-911 world; most of it was pure fabrication designed to retroactively provide weight to the moral justification used to invade Afghanistan. However, if you are comfortable with the alleged footage of him taking responsibility of the attacks of 911 then buying into the justification narrative is the easy part. The towers to which Osama bin Laden was allegedly referring resulted from the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Yet, it is indisputably clear that Osama bin Laden was the witting agent of Western interests in the region at least until the end of the Afghan-Soviet war. it was during the period that Osama bin Laden returned to Saudi Arabia (cir. 1990) that he allegedly became obsessed with the presence of US troops in Saudi Arabia.
This definition directly contradicts your explanation for Osama bin Laden’s alleged justification for ordering WTC attacks. So, too, it does not comport with the ceaseless claim that the collateral damage caused by drone attacks have resulted in radicalization of their surviving victims.
“To that end, Wahhabism, to the degree that it represents a threat, has been, and continues to be, implicitly and explicitly supported by the super structure you identify with (“America”).”
Because this is a specious straw man it is not worthy of a serious response.
Yes, a witting agent, against the Soviets. ‘Enemy of my enemy’. I’m not sure what you think your point is here. I thought you weren’t aware of OBL’s rationale concerning Lebanon and America’s support of Israel, as its a pretty glaring omission (which is why I responded in the first place). But apparently you were aware, and left it out on purpose. He also talked about the brutal sanctions against Iraq. He talked a lot of shit, really. And the shit he talked qualifies as ‘blowback’. Whether or not he believed it is besides the point. But I think you know that. And I’m starting to suspect your goalposts are equipped with hoverboards. They glide this way and that. Godspeed.
Again, I’m not sure what you think your point is. By information deficit, the IC refers to the American populace, and its ‘blowback’ on American perceptions. IE, “they hate us for our freedoms”. Or, in your case, “Wahhabiwhaaa?”
Godspeed.
You are clearly confused. I do not believe that Osama bin Laden ever left the employ of western intelligence services. Thus, I do not believe any of the post 911, pro-war propaganda that has invoked his name. The tapes of Osama bin Laden taking responsibility for the WTC attacks were clearly fakes as was the narrative surrounding his death. It never ceases to amaze me at how gullible people can be when CIA disinformation plays directly into their own anti-establishment counter narrative.
Chomsky rightly concludes that the spread of Saudi Wahhabism was consciously aided by the US policy makers for at least five decades. The friction between the two main branches of Islam have been violently exploited for the purpose of directly transforming the Muslim world in keeping with the aims of globalism. Wake up and smell the napalm.
Operation Mockingbird is alive and well:

Here’s a bit of sanity, although it is doubtful anyone of any sane nature is still left in the USA, with so many expatriates lately:
President Obama stated that we, meaning the American gov’t, should continue supporting Sunni religious extremist rebels in Syria who are supported by Saudi Arabia, the way America — from Jimmy Carter through all the presidents to the present — have supported Saudi Arabian-supported Sunni extremists — and look where it has gotten America to date?
Does anyone believe that supporting the Taliban and al Qaeda (CIA and Unocal in the late 1990s, today supporting al Qaeda against Assad in Syria, and al Qaeda against the Shi’a in Yemen, etc., etc., is a sane strategy???
Define sane, sarge. Cui bono.
There are big Nazi rallies in Finland. France is close to becoming a police state since November 13th. The US and UK are total surveillance states. Trump is running a Fascist campaign. bin Laden’s dream has come true. A few terrorist attacks have been almost enough to close down free societies completely. If the attacks had been carried out by Christian fanatics I don’t think there would have been such extreme reactions. When have a few “thugs” as the president called them, ever had so much power to change the world?
“CSP is led by Frank Gaffney, a far-right activist who theorized that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government as well as the work of tax lobbyist Grover Norquist.”
The wording here is potentially confusing because it makes it sound like CSP is also the work of Grover Norquist. Maybe if you add a “both” before “the U.S. government”?
The Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the U.S. government. What do you think that ring on Obama’s finger is that contains the first half of the Shahada? His wife put it back on his hand at their wedding; he’s had it since his upbringing in Indonesia. Even his peers at Harvard Law Review asked about it.
Trump understands the media. He keeps pouring fuel on the fire and thereby deprives his opponents of oxygen. He doesn’t need political donations because he can grab almost unlimited media coverage, and therefore has little need for paid messages.
This is the third article about Trump by The Intercept in less than a week, which has otherwise ignored the Republican race. So now the Intercept has joined the long line of media dancing to Trump’s tune.
GW Bush looks like an intellectual genius by comparison.
Turn the table. I am willing to wager that more Christians would be in favor of such actions against muslim countries than the vice versa in this article. Didn’t the US ” christians” invade the muslims already?
