After Hillary Clinton spoke at a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday, I asked her if she would release the transcripts of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs. She laughed and turned away.
Clinton has recently been on the defensive about the speaking fees she and her husband have collected. Those fees total over $125 million since 2001.
Her rival Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, has raised concerns in particular over the $675,000 she made from Goldman Sachs, an investment bank that has regularly used its influence with government officials to win favorable policies.
Watch the video:
During one of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs, Clinton reportedly reassured the crowd and told them that banker-bashing was unproductive and foolish, according to a Politico report based on accounts offered by several attendees.
On Friday, Clinton was asked by New Hampshire Public Radio how the “average person should view the hefty speaking fees?”
“I spoke to a wide array of groups who wanted to hear what I thought about the world coming off of my time as secretary of state,” Clinton said, defending her decision to make money from speaking fees. “I happen to think we need more conversation about what’s going on in the world.”
“I think groups that want to talk and ask questions and hear about that are actually trying to educate themselves because we’re living in a really complicated world.”
Listen here:
When asked by the Des Moines Register on Thursday if she regretted her decision to make money from speaking to various interest groups, Clinton compared herself to President Barack Obama, noting that significant campaign donations from Wall Street did not stop him from passing the Dodd-Frank reform law.
But the Obama administration did in fact go easy on Wall Street by refusing to criminally prosecute the major financial institutions responsible for the 2008 economic crisis. And Dodd-Frank, many critics say, does not go far enough in preventing systemic risk.
What’s more, though Obama fundraised for his presidential campaigns from Wall Street, he never enriched himself personally as the Clintons have done.
Obama’s ethics disclosures show that he made the vast majority of his income from royalties and advance money for his two books, Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope.
Top photo: Lloyd Blankfein, chairman & CEO of Goldman Sachs, and Hillary Clinton during the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting.
I agree the speaking fees are high but she is not alone is going on the speaking circuit after a government gig. And this call for “transcripts” baffles me greatly….has no one ever attended a speech by an ex-govt type? They are typically boring and banal, certainly uncontroversial. No one is going to divulge any secrets or strike any deals in front of 200 people.
Huh, apparently the neoliberal wing of the party doesn’t realized that the progressive wing ALSO considers Obama a neoliberal corporatist imperialist. Comparing yourself to Obama isn’t a defense as far as we’re concerned, it’s an additional indictment.
I LOVE HILARY I LOVE OBAM I AM CANADAIN I AM LOOKING AT AMERICA AND CANNOT UNDRRSTAND WHY S COUNTRY LIKE AMERICA CANNOT OFFER HEALTH CARE TO ITS PEOPLE. THAT IS so shameful it is ok to go fight war andcwhen they come home it so hard to help them .i am livingvin canada and my lord i wonder
Oh God, it’ the “I only think positive, I ignore negativity” amateur self-help approach. Ignore what you don’t like; there are plenty of people who LOVE you, bask in that.
It doesn’t work for a leader of a democracy, which is supposed to be all the people. Not to mention on a campaign where income inequality is the foundational issue and you purport to be on the side of the working people.
I have compassion for her. And I find her scary.
I have written an essay on some of the serious problems with the Clintons, dating back to their association with Reagan and Iran-Contra, when Bill offered the Mona airport to Ronald Reagan, to fly in and out of:
https://patriceayme.wordpress.com/2016/01/31/democrats-plutocrats-plutophiles/
She is vile. Power means she can ignore Lee Fang’s questions, and notice how she seems apathetic, even gleefully. She didn’t hesitate to accepted Goldman Sachs huge “talking fees” … or is it more accurately described as a pay off? or advance payment/fees for expected outcomes that are favorable for these Wall Street criminals?
I am less offended by the brutal, aggressive, direct language of people like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz than the faux polite civility of Hilary Clinton. At least Cruz and Trump don’t try to hide the fact that have complete contempt for vasts portions of humanity and are more than happy to keep them impoverished and have the slaughtered so that the immensely wealthy can get even fatter.
A few months after he left office, Reagan got $2 million for speeches to a Japanese firm. For what ?
Donald Trump has been paid as much as $1.5 million per speech.
If anything, the fees the Clintons have been paid for making speeches will insulate them from needing to cater to any particular interests.
Rubbish!
If anything, it shows them to be more like Reagan and Trump than any average American.
The Clinton’s willingness to cater to the interests that pay them is just a coincidence right?
Can’t Anonymous get a copy of these speeches? If not, what does that say?
No one gets paid $125 million just for speaking. These are blatant payments for favoritism.
Hillary is bought and paid for. Goldman Sachs need not worry if she is elected.

Wat a grate speler I am.
Summoned for that last one.

Here’s one:
RALPH NADER VINDICATED BY DEMOCRATIC PARTY RIGHTWARD LURCH
Accurate… but, politically speaking, not helpful to Bernie’s challenge against Hillary.

I would have some interest (but only mild interest) in learning the content of those speeches. But on the other hand, GS did pay for them, so in a sense they should own the content. Of course, if GS should authorize their release Clinton should have no legitimate basis for withholding the transcripts. I’m not aware that they have done so, however.
Why such a heavy hand in the moderation? Why do comments take so long to appear? This is quite a low tactic for a site that promotes free-speech…
I don’t understand what the problem is. Hillary is the best thing that has ever happened to this country. As Secretary of the State she has worked with Obama to significantly lessen student debt, which is now basically gone. She has pulled all troops from the Middle East and has dismantled the drone programs. She has improved wages for the middle class and the wealth gap has shrunk to its smallest level since the Revolutionary War.
This reporter and so many others think that just because bankers have made her rich that she would be beholden to them. That’s like saying that if people paid you money for something you would be required to give them something in return.
And that’s just crazy!
You have got to be kidding?
Yes.
I believe that was meant to be obvious.
Funny shit Hector!

I would think Goldman Sachs (investment wizards) giving/invested $665,000.00 in Hillary Clinton for more than words
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders Battle for Party’s Future
The New York Times has Bernie in a front page article complete with big picture of a huge crowd greeting Bernie . His critique of Democratic support for free-market capitalism and interventionist foreign policy is in the second paragraph. (And for the first time he has been called a New Deal liberal not the voter off-putting socialist).
Bernie is also described in the NYT as against interventionist foreign policy (Hillary is definitely an interventionist—a war hawk, even).
Democracy needs Bernie. He is capitalism’s best hope just as he is democracy’s best hope.

The link didn’t work, but I found it.
Thanks.
Being the NYT, there was some really pathetic establishment crap in the piece, but overall decent.

I’m tired of this old hag laughing at the American people whenever we let her know she’s caught in one of her lies. This mocking laugh is a result of Hillary’s knowledge that there will be ZERO consequences for her to face for ANY of her lies or crimes.
Har! Give it time, Mr. Fang. The night is young. Obama is one of the very best tongue-waggers around with a bright future in the speaking business.
*Now, Obama ain’t saying she a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no broke, broke … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vwNcNOTVzY
I’m glad you asked that question. I hope that your group continues to ask questions regarding this. Her response is priceless.
In observing that scene where Clinton laughs, it seems to me that she isn’t directly laughing at the question so much is she is acting a part and trying to stay in character. She is trying to look as if, from any observer not in earshot, someone had casually spoken something uncontroversial to her that she found slightly humorous, and so laughed and continued hand-glading and smiling. And, that is probably how it came off to anyone who was not in direct earshot of the question which had been put to her. Unfortunately for her, that act couldn’t overcome the result of a quality sound and viewer camera which was directly in the earshot of the interaction.
Why is one Hillary speaking engagement more costly than a PHD from MIT or Harvard? Is she such a highly qualified educator that she commands enormous fees just for speaking. I suppose we should be thankful she is not a visiting professor!!
I know education is expensive, but Hillary’s cost is exorbitant when compared with that of a quality university.
John Howe
Lee gave Hillary a perfect opportunity to show us how she’s not just another Mitt Romney, with different words for the wealthy, and it scared the crap out of her.
Hillary by a landslide! Yes I know, disgusting to many including me. IMO, it says less about Hillary & more about the Electorate that will put her there. That’s the absolute disgusting part.
Nice. I really can’t understand why we would want another Clinton, Bush, or any other politician for that matter. I believe all politicians are corrupt to their core.
Thank you sir for reporting this.
I think I know why the polls are showing Bernie Sanders doing three times better against the Republicans than Hillary Clinton. I think its because the people that support Bernie will stay home election night if Hillary is the nominee. That’s what I intend to do. Let the Country go to hell!
We really need to get the word out that we will NOT vote for Hillary so the Democrats better nominate Bernie Sanders. The very fact that political pundits have to beg Bernie supporters to “vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination” shows she is the weaker candidate. See my latest video about how Bernie is Better than Hillary.
I can’t tell you how many of my friends plan to write in Bernie if Hillary is nominated. The DNC has no clue as to what is really going on in this country and what is driving both Bernie fans and Trump fans. Mostly it is that the banks got off scot free and the American people paid and paid and paid. Anyone who thinks that Hillary has no obligation to the banks needs to stop drinking the kool-aid.
If a bunch of the people like you vote for Jill Stein instead of staying home if Bernie’s not the nominee, we can put the Green party over the 5% threshold so they qualify for some election funding.
And, it will give the neoliberals fits too.
That’s what I intend to do, and I hoe that’s what all Bernie Sanders supporters do.
Bernie Sanders the democrat
is helping to reduce the chances of real opposition.
The fake “progressives” who support the democrats
are the ones whose hypocrisy is preventing the Green Party
from meeting that 5% threshold.
They enable the democrat version of corporate scheming.
Only 2 of the congressional members of the
fake “progressive caucus” (which Sanders created)
have endorsed Sanders and one of those 2 (Grijalva)
has also endorsed Clinton.
57 members of that fakery caucus have endorsed Clinton.
Hi Clark
Yup.
Check out my response to Doug in the Bernie endorsements article.
I struggle with it.
A
Oh Clark,
Stein will still get my (rather bored) vote if the D’s don’t nom Sanders. The Greens have had 20 years to get considerably more going than they have. They haven’t bothered to reach beyond their basic constituency.
How annoying it is when Democrats complain about Gore not getting votes he was “owed” by Nader voters. A certain kind of Democrat can’t shut up about it, probably because it’s such nonsense that they need to repeat it regularly, like a catechism. Frankly, Clark, you sound the same as they do, albeit in posts spaced like precious little sonnets, about the Green Party. You act as if progressives owe the Greens their votes just because on paper they have better positions – and this is usually good enough for me too, but it’s as if no other concerns come into play in voting.
I’ve done the Green Party vote regularly since 1996. It’s considerably more interesting to me that establishment liberal heads are spinning off their necks now with the rise of Sanders. This is far more exciting and heralds far more change. I don’t really care if Sanders is not as left on paper as Stein — it’s close enough for me, and his movement is bulldozing the national discussion leftward in an astonishing way. His one campaign has brought more economic justice/corporate oligarchy issues to the forefront of news discussion than the Greens have done in 20 years.
“… But it’s as if no other concerns come into play in voting.”
Your quote indicates that the greatest “concerns” for you
require ignoring the repeated history of democrats using
words to trick people into believing they support one thing
and then promoting something else once in office.
The democrat’s fraudulence is their history and the fact that
a strong majority ( 57 ) of the members of the
fake “progressive caucus” (all democrats)
have already endorsed the Hillary-ian face of corporatist
corruption is very telling.
Sanders is tolerated by the majority of the Caucus which
he established while Hillary is their beloved predator.
Democrats are the enablers of the republicans and are
the greatest prevention against what Sanders says he wants.
If you cannot see this fact, I feel sorry for you.
Sanders’ reputation is based upon never being in a position
where the majority in congress supported what he
has said he wanted,
EXCEPT when he has supported militarized aggressions.
This is so very much like the flim flam Obama candidacy,
to not be highly suspicious is very unwise.
I have no way of believing anyone who is a democrat,
republican, or libertarian.
I am however, VERY interested to see WHO Sanders picks
for a running mate and WHEN he makes that choice.
If he “triangulates” and “rationalizes” for his choice,
anyone who still supports him at that point
is asking to be abused.
Non-responsive.
wait let me put that
in terms you will understand.

The vast majority of Americans suffer from this chronic condition- denial is a very powerful survival strategy.
Must see Occupied on Netflix-
The only bipartisan success in Congress is insider trading.
Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz both benefited enormously from their relationship with Goldman Sachs, which managed to avoid criminal prosecution for selling financial products that were designed to fail, activities that played a major role in the 2008 economic collapse. That, however, is the nature of the financial system – they deliberately buy off receptive politicians from all parties, supporting their political campaigns, then leaning on them to get what they want. Which, for example, is why major banks that launder billions in drug cartel money never see any criminal prosecutions for doing so, while the jails are full of poor people serving long ‘drug war’ sentences. Just imagine a Clinton vs. Cruz presidential election – Goldman Sachs would be sitting back chuckling and laughing – ‘heads I win, tails you lose.’
That’s her Croney CACKLETALI$M!
All these “Speaking Fees” are just BRIBES for her privat pocket,
not confuse with campaign donations, these are also bribes but
for their so called political work.
All this repugnant corruption makes me puke every day.
Wow, the look on her face.
God help me that I will not live long enough to the point where everyone knows my sins.
Good job Lee, great question.
A great question for a selfish scoundrel. Thank you Lee. Keep asking her that question, and maybe others will start asking her that also.
Lee, you are quickly becoming the rock star of The Intercept.
Keep hitting ’em where it hurts!
+1 !
No, he’s the Nancy Reagan of The Intercept: He wants the gov’t to “just say no” to pain-relieving drugs.
What difference does it make!!!!!!
You really need to stop congratulating yourself about this, because it’s not really that groundbreaking, provocative, or “juicy”. Watching the video, it seems that she barely even registers your question…probably because at this point she is very, very, very used to fielding questions that she could not POSSIBLY begin to answer in the manner that the asker desires in the 15 seconds available. She is not laughing off your question…she is just laughing in the general direction of self-righteous/satisfied pseudo-journalism squawking…
She is an arrogant person who lacks class. She could answer no with some degree of professionalism. Whose interests are you concerned with? People who hand out hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy influence and the people who accept those bribes to do the bidding of the rich and powerful? There was nothing wrong with the question given what she said in those speeches “according to accounts offered by several attendees.” And this is part of her pattern of arrogance and rudeness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k87hBjkM8-s&list=PLAD126EDC76EE46B6
Joining the ranks of those attacking the journalist because you can’t defend Hillary on the issue is very, very, very weak.
How long does it take you to say “yes, I’ll release the transcript” or “no, I won’t release the transcript because you are unworthy little people who don’t deserve to know what I’m up to”?
More than 15 seconds?
And, “fielding the question” is a term that means actually answering it, but nice attempt spinning for the gang that relies on spinning.
Keep force feeding yourself that belief, it’ll do wonders for your lack of sanity.
“The difference between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns is simply this: she’s betting liberals are too dumb to see her for what she is; he’s betting they’re smart enough to see him for what he is.”
http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/01/22/hillary-clinton-and-the-northern-strategy/
Thanks, Franklin. Great article.
She’s a crook!
Most people take pride in their words or speeches they’ve written. Laughter as a response to disclosing one’s own words is illuminating.
Nice work Lee. Keep it up!
“speaking fees” are really just bribes. Yeah she spoke for 40 minutes, but Goldman Sacs has to document something for taxes to shell out a 1/4 mil.
40 minutes. That’s $16,875 per minute. Marie Antoinette had nothing up on this WS sucking bitch…pre lunette. The only question left is why the unemployed and minimum wage workers of Murika aren’t building guillotines by the hundreds. Especially in Flint Michigan. These 1% bastards truly do not give a shit about anything but money at the expense of the working class. This is why every single one of the 1%, without fail, are anti gun collectivists, who given their way, would allow every city in Murika to become another Flint..and worse. Because they know.. at some point, the 2nd Amendment will fulfill it’s purpose. And when it does.. lord help them. It’s only a matter of time till the ghosts of Tom Joad will reap their due…and if I have anything to do with it… Clinton will be at the front of the line.
Someone needs to bring a hidden mic into some of these events so that there is a transcript. Would love to hear her tune when she’s pandering to the bankers. I’m sure it would be a whole lot different than the faux populist message she’s been attempting to parrot since Sanders has started resonating with and inspiring the left with his campaign of truth.
The contrast between these candidates could not be more stark, and in my opinion, making sure those distinctions are known to less informed voters is of the utmost importance. She needs to be held accountable for her words and her actions and the infinite contradictions between the two.
Way to go Lee. Now you’re part of the great right wing conspiracy lol!
No KIDDING. Atta Boy LEE ! Keep badgering her. She doesn’t answer bcuz she knows she’ll incriminate herself.
This is more of her arrogance. Here she was showing what kind of person she is by way she treated Gravel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k87hBjkM8-s&list=PLAD126EDC76EE46B6
She is truly evil.
What a statement, acting as if Mr. Obama came down on the bankster abuses by signing souffle legislation that did nothing, even though he received much less personally than Mrs. Clinton. The reality, is when asked why he didn’t do anything other than reward their crimes with “too big to fail, too big to jail” trillion dollar bailouts, he excused, “I would have liked to have done something, but it would have pissed off too many powerful people.” If Hillary was rejected in 2008 in favor of this weak-water hope and change agent, why are we going backwards to her now? With $125 million in payouts for “speaking,” you can be sure that “acting” is what’s been bought.
The Goldman Sachs kind is capable of large sums of bribery and the corrupt Hillary Clinton is too delighted to obliged.
Hillary RottenHam Clinton will be hung by her tongue – and there’s no getting away from that. The gallows are waiting, the ropes are swinging – and the people are rallying.
Thanks Lee for asking this question (or whoever did, they/you are extremely brave)! I am hoping the stellar David Corn follows up his 2014 article about her shady ties to Goldman Sachs: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/06/hillary-clintons-goldman-sachs-problem
It is also extremely troubling that Chelsea Clinton’s husband worked for Goldman Sachs for 7 years (and bought a $9.2 million dollar apartment in NYC) and now has significant GS investment in his hedge fund and is said “to cull his clients from Clinton events” for his hedge fund.

To be fair, asking her to release the transcripts of a $650,000 speech for free is a bit like asking Neiman-Marcus to commit their $250 Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe recipe to the public domain.
Here is the recipe for the damn cookies:

Do we question sports figures when they are paid millions? I don’t think so. Don’t hate.
Yes and sports stars doesnt run for president of the most powerful country in the world…..you idiot.
Athletes are paid a percentage of the money they are perceived to be bringing into the franchise. In that respect, your analogy is quite good.
Excellent reply!
The “Franchise”…
Unlike politicians, sports figures do not have the power to decide national policy nor to make and execute laws.
Sports stars earn their money from revenue generated by fans of the sport. Politicians are public servants and should not be compared to sports stars as they earn their money from tax payers.
And when athletes suck, they actually lose their jobs.
A team pays a sports figure to play for them against the other teams. Hillary is paid by the financial industry team to play against the public. Recognizing that she is on the opposing team is not hate.
What is this Russia? We’re not allowed to get rich?
Actually, it’s just like today’s Russia.
They’re allowed to get rich.
You’re not… unless you keep your mouth shut about them… and only then if you make them richer in the process.
she will take your money and take your vote but she wont answer a simple question, maybe if you paid her to answer it you might get somewhere?
That’s nothing. .. Donald Trump can “stand in the middle of 5th Ave. and shoot somebody and not lose votes”!
Who are you quoting here?
http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/23/politics/donald-trump-shoot-somebody-support/
Apparently a direct quote from Donald himself…
President Obama will be in great demand for speeches geared to where they do business internationally, trade, regulations, problem solving, world leaders, future considerations (they usually include many hours more than the speech) receptions before and after. This is work not just a speech and big check.
Aw.
So cute you think bankster fraud is “business”.
Hillary’s “many hours” of “work” certainly better justifies the bribe… you may as well add in the time the commute to the venue takes, the time it takes to tell her assistant to arrange a limo, the prep time for hair and makeup, the time it takes to shop for a new pantsuit, the time it takes to print out her notes… heck, maybe she even needed an hour to put a new cartridge into her printer first and then wipe (don’t forget the circular hand motions) her server again.
She’s “working” her ass off.
That’s an entertaining and humorous list of what all goes into a Hillary Clinton $600,000 speech making event. Same could be said of so many others living the bubble life. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of ‘shopping for a new pantsuit’. It has always irritated me to the core whenever I hear or read politicians, and any of their little helpers, use some iteration of the phrase, “Doing the heavy lifting” to describe the sitting around on their asses raking in money and attending various appendages of the cocktail circuit.
Thanks.
Somehow, I doubt her supporters who actually work will be convinced though.
Ah, but the DNC Vote for the Vag Machine has already declared Hillary Queen of the Empire. Who are we to stand in her Way. Certainly, she will bring Peace Upon Us as no mere Man could (those awful, insensitive brutish beasts!) and shower us with her gifts not unlike Asma Al-Assad cares for all the little people in the Belly of the Butcher. Blood on the Money? Wipe it with a Cloth!! Tee! Hee!!
Only the finest Syrian silk, no less. http://issuu.com/mayakateb/docs/syriansilk
That woman makes my skin crawl. I am amazed that she hasn’t been indicted.
I have no idea what anyone see’s in her electability being a mean, hateful, above the law, money grubbing, evil, political dinosaur.
Why would anyone think she would ” give ” anything ?
Indicted for what?! Please enumerate the illegal transgressions. You seem very certain that she’s guilty of…SOMETHING. Well…what are the allegations? And not just stupid crap you heard on FOX news. What exactly, praytell, should she be indicted for? (please state your answer in the form of actual legal charges).
Even people who don’t watch stupid FOX know that her actions as SOS triggered an ongoing FBI investigation.
Are you unaware of that?
War Crimes, including but not limited to: aggressive war (Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, and parts of Africa); crimes against humanity (CIA Black Sites, drone strikes); and crimes against peace (see above list of countries).
There should be no question that this woman has been involved in the promulgation of aggressive war in pursuit of empire. She should be shipped to The Hague with Bush, Cheney, Obama, Biden, Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, et al.
I’m astounded that anyone would ask such a silly question. Google “Geneva Conventions”.
Unfortunately, she isn’t under investigation for any of the crimes you listed… and as far as the crimes for which she is being investigated, it is unlikely she will be prosecuted.
Then, all these idiots will rejoice and insist she was innocent all along.
Our current reality is pathetic.
A
It does seem a bit laughable that anyone would think that…at least to her.
So, it’s OK for Hillary to be paid millions to give speeches at Goldman Sachs, but if Cruz goes in to get a loan from Goldman Sachs and uses his 401K as collateral, he’s a lowlife scumbag. The Democrats have no shame.
No.
Cruz is a lowlife scumbag for failing to disclose the loans, his policies, his attitude, and many other reasons.
To Garth’s credit, he did get the lowlife scumbag part right.
lol I live in a country full of idiots. The majority of speakers charge a fee for their time and Bernie is only getting away with this WEAK criticism because it’s Hillary. I’m can’t deny that my mouth dropped when I just read $125million but people were getting the former President and First Lady to speak at their events. That is NOT going to be cheap.
Bernie needs to try harder than this if he’s gonna win in November
She charges top dollar for speeches she is afraid to give to the electorate. You got an answer for that?
No.
She’s not charging for her celebrity, her time or the content of her speech, it’s what she can do for them later.
Wow, this is why I’m voting for Bernie.
Hillary Clinton, does public speaking and anyone will ask because she will deliver the best speech where the audience will learn from. Hillary for President.
There’s no doubt that she is a great speaker and can be informative, but it’s very unnerving that she dodged this question.
She didn’t dodge this question. She was ambushed by a question (which, I am guessing, happens on an hourly basis by reporters from all sides of the aisle) during what was clearly NOT a question and answer session.
Not answering the question is the definition of “dodging”.
Again with the “ambushed” as if mere words hurt her frail little soul?
How dare a journalist question a presidential candidate… and without paying up front!!!
Attacking the reporter is all there is when you can’t defend Hillary’s actions.
Clinton is a rank POS. On a good day.
Chuckles the Candidate. Average people don’t understand how much better conversations and self-education experiences go when large fees are included.
She plans to do the same – again this week! This is completely outrageous.
http://m.dailykos.com/story/2016/1/18/1471577/-Exhibit-A-Hillary-s-big-ticket-Philly-fundraiser-just-days-before-the-Iowa-caucus
Shouldn’t Feng be in Davos? Who is in Davos reporting for the Intercept?
Why don’t you ask Cruz about transcripts to his million dollars in fraudulent campaign loans from Wall St. What Clinton made on speaking engagements while being private citizens are nobodys business unless every candidate from both parties are willing to comply. Back to Cruz, lied about the loans is fraud. Would you like to pursue that?
It is our business due to the nature of the job she is seeking, and what she will do for the banksters in return for the speaking fees.
But, it is good to see that you are in favor of disclosure and transparency for all candidates… way to go!! I fully agree with you on that.
on my facebook page I responded to Hillary commets to the Des Moines Register here is what I noted:
Responding to her conversation with the Des Moines Register…watch it: Hillary covered herself by saying Obama took money from Wall Street but she failed to note that Obama never took speaking fees from the financial industry, sadly he did take money from them to get elected and NO ONE responsible for the 2008 economic meltdown did a perp walk…they got fined, they got waivers but no one was held accountable Mrs. Clinton…you speak to a lot of groups but in just two years (from the time you left State to the time you announced you were running for President:”According to public disclosures, by giving just 12 speeches to Wall Street banks, private equity firms, and other financial corporations, Clinton made $2,935,000 from 2013 to 2015) Why did they pay you so much? What advice could you have given them worth nearly $3 million dollars) and the last point you made was that Bernie voted to deregulate Derivatives…terrible I agree…why didn’t your husband veto it?) So many questions….so little time. PS read about Bernie’s only pro wall street vote…it is interesting to see what the Clinton administration did after that vote to make it even more despicable.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-wall-street_us_5617f634e4b0dbb8000e5a58
and I then tweeted out: arnie arnesen @pchowder
#Hillary gave 12 speeches to #WallStreet between 2013-2015 she earned $2,935,000 Curious? what did U tell them worth $3 million #nhpolitics
Obama hasn’t been in a position to give hi-fee speeches while President of the US. It’ll be interesting to see if he follows the Clinton, or ex-President pattern. I wonder what the record is on Jimmy Carter, for example – and what he did with any fees he earned.
The most disturbing part of HRC’s fee history is the comfy relationship it establishes with people she would need to regulate.
What a garbage politician. You can see, he is right in front of her – she makes eye contact, and laughs at him in the face. Hillary Clinton is a master liar and manipulator.
Bernie Sanders is the only candidate that is standing up for the people.
Not entirely true. Jill Stein, the Green Party’s most likely candidate, is also standing up for the people. If Bernie Sanders fails to win the Democratic Party nomination, Jill would be an excellent back-up for his supporters. http://www.jill2016.com
So you tried to ambush her and she didn’t bite. I am not a HRC fan by any measure but what you did was bullshit.
A journalist asking a simple question is an “ambush”?
THANK YOU! I could not agree more. She did what any person would do in the face of a non-sequitur and unanswerable question would do – try VERY hard not to roll one’s eyes in case it would embarrass the speaker, and then move on.
Unanswerable question?
Yes, I’ll release the transcript.
No, I won’t release the transcript.
Care to try again?
Good to see you recognize that Hillary struggles not to roll her eyes at journalists who dare ask her questions though.
Asking people questions is now ambushing? Darn journalists!
She didn’t soak them for enough. As a woman she probably got less than any man who was paid to speak. Go Hillary! Next time charge them more!!!! Hillary 2016!!!
Greedy birds of a feather flock together.
“Clinton compared herself to President Barack Obama, noting that significant campaign donations from Wall Street did not stop him from passing the Dodd-Frank reform law.”
And look how wonderfully effective that law has been. Vote for HRC, and get more of the same. I don’t think much will change under Sanders if he is elected, but it would be a start toward a better country.
What would be a good hashtag for this? Let’s all tweet to @HillaryClinton and ask her if she’ll #releasethetranscripts. (There’s gotta be a better hashtag, but let’s start asking her!)
Lee, you are my hero. Maybe you follow my twitter asking for universal healthcare and wall street reform? Or maybe we all ask that and the politicians just don’t talk about it?…
Someone should ask Bernie Sanders if there is any speech he’s ever given for which he would decline to provide a transcript, if available. I’m guessing the answer would be no.
Like her or not, either she will win or Donald Trump will win, period. They will win again in 2020 (sorry Kanye, idiot),… so people can nitpick, bicker, cry, complain but Hillary could win. Her bright spots are experience, foreign relations, ISIS-she might be useful – healthcare.; his bright spots economy, ISIS – he’d probably do a lot of harm with foreign relations, he insults people before thinking, he’s got plenty of local foreigners upset because they feel he’s a racist,.. so who knows where this will go. But she’s in this BIG TIME. She and I attended the same high school, different decades.
So, the Dem primary is a lock for Hillary?
Can I borrow your crystal ball? The battery in mine died.
I think we got the picture, you’re a huge supporter of Hillary Clinton. That doesn’t mean we have to suddenly discard our own ideas and beliefs and support of other candidates to support her simply because she’s perceived as having the best chance of winning.
This isn’t a football game, this is an election, an event where were supposed to vote for the candidates that we agree with most and believe would be best for office. If it were truly a choice between Trump or Hillary alone, I’d stay home, as I don’t agree with either candidate enough to feel good about supporting one of them. Thankfully, they won’t be the only two candidates on the ballot (barring authoritarian nonsense), and I already know who I am supporting: Jill Stein of the Green Party. That is what my vote will stand for. Deal with it.
If Clinton isn’t indicted, it’s OK to lie/cheat/steal your way to the top (in fact, the very top!).
Something 300+ million people will have in mind, as they sit down to do their taxes soon…
I often wonder what she could be saying that is worth, e.g., $600000.
She knows, the bankers know, and we all know the $600K are not given in exchange for some mind-blowing wisdom.
Would you compare Hillary’s knowledge to sport figures? Just what is it about what she does and get paid compared to what they get paid? Isn’t her educating and her having a heart for helping people in comparison to what they do. Could it be because she is a female. If you check the facts in the beginning of her career she helped those in need. And I believe she is still doing that. Don’t hate. Go figure.
The facts are that in the beginning of her “career”, Hillary was a Republican… and she hasn’t changed.
Absolutely not. Sports figures do a lot of work on the court or the field. The entertainment value they produce makes their employers a lot of money, which is why they get payed what they do get paid.
Maybe she just regurgitated diamonds and gold. Surely, that’s the only logical explanation. Alchemy.
Is that a “no” from Secretary Clinton? Damn straight that’s a “no”!
Surprise Surprise. Clinton being harassed by another young, white, fanatic male. Interesting that all the Hillary haters from the Sanders supporters just happen to always be white males.
A journalist asking a simple question is “harassment”?
It makes Lee Fang a “hater”?
It makes him a “fanatic”?
It makes him a Bernie supporter?
I’m going to leave the last one for someone else.
You seem to have a nonsensical hatred of “young, white, males”, which makes you sound bigoted and irrational …
What a desperate and pathetic line of attack.
You’re going to have to pay her a lot of money to hear her answer. Do you have a few million lying around?
Funny you would use “lying”, sorry, just got a kick out of that !
This reminds me of the Mitt Romney tax returns from 2012. Hillary needs to address these issues if she wants to win over the liberal voters she would need to win a general election.
The real question is: Can she offer ten chicken nuggets for $1.49 ?
blah
How much gilt is laying in offshore accounts for Obama will we never know. He’s already figured out how to get that money pouring into his foundation. They’re all on the take; but HiLIARy probably most of all I will grant you. I think of the “trade agreements” {read: corporate takeover] as merely perpetual slot machines for these gringos.
I am delighted you got her EMPRESS OF CHAOS cackle on audio, I must say.
Good job.
Very amateurish. Should’ve been asked in a more professional setting and the writing level of this piece is sophomoric as well. Though, I’m sure this piece could potentially play well with the click-bait tumblr/buzzfeed crowd. Disappointed Greenwald. Nothing sinister about her laugh, just surprised she had to deal with jackass author at that moment.
A journalist asking a straightforward, simple question is “amateurish”?
Gotta agree with you that Hillary should agree to an interview by TI though… but I don’t care what the setting is.
The way Hillary dodges all journalists who may dare ask such questions is the real jackass move.
Very on point, “S”. Surely, the author must know that all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Get a grip, man.
With Goldman’s latest $5 billion penalty for fraud, Hillary’s bankster backers have racked up impressive totals… and NONE have gone to jail.
That is the real Obama legacy Hillary promises to “advance” and “defend”.
Hillary’s dismissive attitude and deceptions about all questions related to her Wall Street coddling reflect the main problem with her private server… no, not classified information, but rather avoiding transparency at all costs for fear of damaging her career and personal wealth.
And behind every multi-billion dollar penalty the banksters have paid, are millions of Americans who lost their jobs, their homes, and their retirement savings.
To top it all off, one of the biggest fraud schemes Hillary’s bankster buddies have ongoing, is raiding the pension funds of American workers.
Hillary is complicit, a collaborator… and she has personally benefited tremendously.
I am reminded of the geishas and massage therapists and escorts who all insist that what they are paid for is purely the pleasure of their company.
I am picturing a line of Goldman execs all waiting their turn to get a blow-job from Hillary…
Ew, don’t be a pig about it.
of course, problem is debates are not, and big media will not raise or pursue such questions, and if you try to do so eg on Twitter you dont get far, a dialogue would be good, but instead often you are attacked as a “troll”.
The best part about this had to be: “I happen to think we need more conversation about what’s going on in the world….I think groups that want to talk and ask questions and hear about that are actually trying to educate themselves because we’re living in a really complicated world.”
Good effort team Clinton but you might want to go back to the brainstorming sesh on how to deflect that “attack.” It directly contradict with her refusal to release the transcripts that Fang requested. Wouldn’t a real Dem want to share all that education with the world? Or maybe that’s a dem socialist position…
Return the fees.
Speaking fees are only for converting bribery to white money. You really don’t want to hear all the crap that was said. And Clinton too does not want the world to discover the crap.
I decided to pay $675,000 to find out what was in the speech.
It was worth every penny, as Mrs. Clinton has discovered the secret to becoming wealthy. I’ll reveal that secret to anyone willing to pay $675,000.
For $675,000 I won’t even remember Glass-Steagall!
*For $19.95 (+ S&H) I can make you healthy, wealthy and wise.
LOL
Clinton: “I happen to think we need more conversation about what’s going on in the world.”
(Provided I get six figures to express my views. Pony up, commoners!)
Nice.
or
“we need more conversation… but I don’t want to talk about THAT”
A
I find it disturbing that she would laugh off the very serious concerns of the citizens she want to vote for her. It is no wonder that the majority of voters believe she is dishonest and untrustworthy. Her ties to Wall Street are a major factor in this campaign. We need a leader who is beholder to no one other than the citizens of this country . Bernie Sanders has served with honesty and consistency his entire career and is dedicated to working for all of us. Please visit http://www.feelthebern.org to learn more about the only truly progressive candidate.
Talk about corruption to the max
Mr. Fang, I admire your restraint when being face-to-face with that lying bitch – I would have clocked her right in nose.
Her dismissive and shameful cackle when asked serious questions about her Wall Street support (a two way street) and her war hawk record Iraq, Libya, Syria is so telling. The story it tells is of how power corrupts.
Sanders is the majority of Americans best bet.
Sanders is just another casual mass murderer and torture aficionado like his competitors and all before him. And you’re just another American, comfortable with perpetual and casual butchery as long as you don’t have to look at it in person or endure torture yourself.
The nonchalance about US mass murder and torture by Zersetzung among TI’s American readers does not go unnoticed by those of us on the sharp end. Foreigners are not the only people who have very good reason to despise you.
Please. Bernie Sanders invited Noam Chomsky to Burlington, VT to speak on US foreign policy (the Reagan terrorist wars in Central America) in 1985. 1985. Chomsky’s first political donation was to Bernie Sanders. Chomsky has written for decades on US imperialism and aggression. It is not likely that Chomsky would switch his long held beliefs and support a money hungry, war hawk. Sanders is the political embodiment of Chomsky. Neither are pro-war or pro-torture.
Please. Bernie invited Noam Chomsky to speak in Burlington, VT on foreign policy (the Reagan terrorist wars in Central America) in 1985. 1985. Chomsky’s first political donation was to Bernie Sanders. There is no greater critic of US foreign policy than Chomsky. Chomsky wouldn’t support a “casual mass murderer and torture aficionado.” I believe Chomsky over you and your unfounded claims.
Sure, let’s just write off a whole group of people because you are unhappy with something done by a small group of people. Attitudes like yours do not help one bit.
By all means continue to make the world a worse place with your crap.
Jeff, I have already said this to one American and it’s worth repeating to at least three hundred million others of any age, from seven on up including you.
You were discredited at birth. Your well earned reputation for stupidity based hubris and blood-lust is your birthright and the only way to shake it and earn the respect of your betters is to somehow muster the fortitude to purge that baked-in indoctrination and begin confronting and outing the weak minded monsters around you, including your own family members, at the risk of death.
I’m not saying your patriotic family members and US goon squads should get away with threatening to murder you with impunity — no, not at all. I am saying those are the risks required if you want to avoid the disrespect you are experiencing and will experience for the rest of your life as someone who identifies his or herself as an American.
Let’s see Sanders opposed the invasion of Iraq and had nothing to do with pushing the military intervention in Libya or the arming of rebels in Syria. If you can not take in the difference between Sanders and Clinton that is your problem. I for one see a huge difference. Again not on Israel and Palestine but on other critical foreign policy decisions. Bernie still seems to have a conscience. At least more than Clinton by a long stretch
Interesting how you carve out Israel and Palestine. It has all the moral certitude of Hitler carving out Christianity and Islam.
The larger question, for those of you who accept the slippery slope of Bernie’s Zionism, is how far it extends. If, for example, Israel decided to go to war against, oh, say, Italy, would we tag along with Bernie as president? This is not so absurd a question, because if you look at his record, you will see that Bernie Sanders is totally uncritical when it comes to supporting Israel. There is not a single instance of his failing to support them.
You don’t know what you are talking about, Bernie has criticized Israel before. He supports a two-state solution, and wants peace for the Israelis and Palestinians.
Read here:
http://feelthebern.org/bernie-sanders-on-israel-and-the-palestinians/
Both Clinton and Sanders always vote for Israel on all pro Israel legislation.
My point is that they are not much different on that critical issue.
American taxpayers have been giving “assistance” to Israel? Do you think he will discuss this?
“.The Netanyahu government now receives more than US$6 billion every year from the US congress/ AIPAC lobby i.e. equating to $1000 annually for every Jewish Israeli, courtesy of the American taxpayer.”
What choice do we have? What should you do if you want a candidate who will push for economic fairness and reform?
“Bernie still seems to have a conscience.”
So that’s how he’s kept his job in Congress for so long.
Well, it seems like you do not know anything about Sanders. With the Vietnam war he opposed it and the destruction he caused. He has also voted against the Iraqi war. He does not believe in that kind of thing at all. He is genuine and actually cares for America. Look him up. I am a pacifist and I hate war. I’m an American, don’t lump every person together just because I was born here.
Caitlin, how would you or B. Sanders respond to an American (born there) who walked up to you and described his experience of being tortured for 15 years by other Americans? (I can guess, given prior experimentation with many other self described haters of war and torture. You would cringe and flee like any other chicken-shit American.). You people can’t seem to grok that your country — engaged in perpetual war — is of course engaged in routine torture of its dissidents, like any other constantly warring country has and does. (There is absolutely no exception to this rule. None.)
Neither you nor B. sanders have lifted a finger for those who have been and are being subjected to US Zersetzung programs. The objective of these programs is mass murder, right under your nose. Why shouldn’t those of us who are innocent and marked for murder lump you in together with the worst of your fellow patriots? Lift one of those fingers, take some risks, and you will be respected by those of us who have risked much by voicing and acting out what we thought were the most trivial expressions of civil decency and courage. Until then, you are just another American Coward, cringing, turning away from the tortured within your society, seeking safety in your mute and comfortable numbers.
In 21st century USA, if you are not being tortured or helping those who are, you are suspect, not worthy of respect from those being attacked by tax payer subsidized torture squads. We took the risks. You? Nada. Why should you or B. Sanders be respected by those of us on the sharp end of your country’s Zersetzung mass murder programs?
The following bears repeating a thousand times. Again: countries engaged in perpetual war are also engaged in routine, perpetual torture of it’s dissidents. No exceptions. Think about this timeless, universal human truth the next time you hear of an American trying to describe his or her experience of being tortured inside, and outside, your country. But do ignore those who bring up the subject of tin hats and space aliens — those who are paid to persuade you to ignore what we are trying to tell you about your great fucking country.
Haha. Well, at least the Hillary didn’t call you ‘the Tucker Carlson of the Left’ (whatever that means.).
*otoh, noticed steely-eyed dudes w/ the ear buds were not laughing!
Not their job to laugh. Job is to be serious and keep the people they protect from being killed or injured. Nothing to laugh at
Maybe some day they could just look the other way for a few seconds…
Very true, bodyguards protect the majority of the rich and powerful in our country. Would that the serfs were as well protected.
and her recent attachment of herself to obama has become so close it looks like she is hoping some of his black will rub off on her
Obama had best be careful, lest the veneer of his skin color rub off entirely, exposing him for the white guy he secretly is. I always liked the term Oreobama, but it just didn’t catch on. Too close to the truth, I guess.
“Lest the veneer of his skin colour rub off” ? And what’s under your white veneer, red?
What makes you think I’m white, honkey?
lets hear what she has to say to those that pay $675,000 for 3 speeches
we the people have a right to know what a candidate for president is saying to the money handlers that employee her
Well done Lee. More of this, please.
HC undone!!
God, she’s so phony! That smile is frozen on her face like a mask!
Paying $675,000 to soak up her wisdom? Really? I call bullshit. She ain’t that wise.
“I happen to think we need more conversation about what’s going on in the world.”
Then she should be happy to further that conversation by releasing her Wall Street speeches.
Hilary Clinton is a shill for Wall Street doing all she can to curry their favor
Absolutely. She ought to be forced to wear a NASCAR style jumpsuit with the names & logos of all of her corp. donors’ and those of who have paid her “speaking fees”.
“shill” — spelled: w – h – o – r – e for Wall Street
