Donald Trump may be backing off elements of his proposed temporary ban on all Muslim immigration to the United States, but in the meantime, his original proposal has become way more popular than he is, according to many national polls.
Trump most recently said he was calling for a temporary ban on immigration from “areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States” — rather than all Muslims from anywhere.
But Trump’s poll numbers have been dropping lately; the Huffington Post’s aggregate of polling data shows that Trump has a 35 percent favorability rating, down from 37 percent in late May. Meanwhile, Reuters/Ipsos’s rolling five-day poll as of July 1 showed that 46 percent of Americans favor temporarily banning all Muslims from entering the country, up from 40 percent in late May.
An NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll conducted shortly after the deadly shooting in Orlando showed that 50 percent of Americans strongly or somewhat supported the ban, while 46 percent opposed it.
A Morning Consult poll released in mid-June found that 48 percent of Americans support the ban, with 40 percent opposing and 11 percent not offering an opinion. Majorities of Americans supported a temporary ban on immigration from a set of named Muslim-majority countries, such as Pakistan, Syria, and Iraq.
These numbers suggest that the ban has support from outside the hardcore pro-Trump base. The crosstabs on Morning Consult’s poll show that, among those who voted for Barack Obama in 2012, 32 percent strongly or somewhat support a temporary ban on Muslim immigration.
That kind of overlap also showed up in a Fox News poll last week. Just 6 percent of Democrats and 3 percent of African-Americans said they would support Trump over Clinton — but 19 percent of Democrats said it would make the country “safer” if Muslims were temporarily banned, as did 25 percent of African-Americans.
Support for the ban is stronger in some states. A University of Texas/Texas Politics Project survey released at the end of June found that 52 percent of Texas voters supported the ban. Support was particularly strong among GOP voters, with 76 percent supporting the ban, an increase of 13 points since the results of the same poll in February. Although most self-identified Texas Democrats opposed the ban, 26 percent said they somewhat or strongly support it.
The polling on the question is not entirely uniform. For example, a CBS News poll from mid-June found that only 36 percent of Americans supported the ban.
This polling suggests that an idea that would have been considered fringe in years past has been elevated to the mainstream such that it is likely to be an ongoing topic of political debate in the future, regardless of what happens to Trump.

I wouldn’t be surprised that as President he started to restrict traveling within the country from areas that have a larger percentage of people who dislike him. “They’re dangerous. Its just disgraceful how they behave”

1) The US Government set up 9/11 attacks with the Saudi’s to set up the Patriot Act and to make the Constitution null and void. (Meaning without the Constitution we are no longer America).
2) They use and abuse young Americans with lying about “why we are going to war”. Propaganda.
3) Government sent troops out with no real mission or goal. Much like Vietnan (which was all about weapons sales by Kissenger). There is no real objective to winning seeing the same US military supposedly fighting ISIS is supplying ISIS.
4) So after 15+ years of torture, drone strikes to weddings, hospitals, schools, neighborhoods. They want to bring these people that hate us in our country and communities and hope they assimilate?
They want to live under Sharia Law, but come to the US? Maybe our government has promised Muslims in a decade or so (seeing we are a Democracy) that they will be the majority and can change the laws? Much like what is going on with the destruction of the constitution today. We all know that Obama, Jeh Johnson and many others are Muslims who love Sharia.

Donald Trump never said he wants to ban Muslims altogether. In fact, not a single Muslim anywhere in the world has died due to anything that Trump has ever done. He has repeatedly criticized the Iraq and Libya wars. If he is elected, which I think is likely, he is not going to invade Syria and cause the death of millions of more Muslims. These are exactly the opposite of what Crooked has done and will be doing. All Trump has said is that we need to step back and stop the cross-border movement of people who are related to terrorism – till we have a better understanding of what is going on. This is a pretty fair statement, and for the millions of Muslims who are not interested in travel to USA this statement is inconsequential. This probably affects – that too for a limited time – a few affluent Muslims who may seek entry into USA, and who in any case have much less reason to worry about their safety than those millions of others in war zones. Instead of saying what he has said, the media, this site included, is bent on discrediting him by distorting his words to portray hatred towards all Muslims. OK, let’s do some math. To start with, the U.S. has a general murder rate of 3.9 per 100,000 residents per year. Usually we look at this in terms of odds of being a victim, but it also is the rate of committing a murder. With a lifespan close to 80, that seems like about 300 per 100,000 over a lifetime or 1 in 333 odds of being a victim and 1/333 chance of committing a murder. Though the guys hog the blanket on this regard, and a growing population might distort these statistics somehow.
Now there are 3.3 million Muslims in the country who are accountable for something close to 3300 deaths by terrorism, mostly by the 9/11 hijackers who may have been of foreign origin but nonetheless were in the country legally and count among that group. So that’s roughly a lifetime rate of terrorism around 1 in 1000. And for comparison, the Ku Klux Klan peaked around 4 million members and committed about 3500 murders and so they were around a 1 in 1000 lifetime rate of terrorism also. This makes both groups resented company; yet it does not represent a *substantial* increase in overall risk. Terror continues to play second fiddle to the usual fare of jilted husbands and idiot drug wars. Now of course even one murder really ticks people off if it’s their girlfriend, and so I can understand how the rhetoric gets going; still, there’s no call to deny people rights that they have as Americans. Even so, if you’re standing at the border with a big guest list deciding day by day to let in Ahmed and not Juan, maybe you want to take another look at the list and see if it’s ordered right.
