It is also unclear why the Democratic National Committee, which isn’t supposed to favor one Democratic candidate over another until they receive a nomination, would have attempted to subvert the Sanders campaign on the grounds that “he is an atheist.”

Who cares? It is perfectly normal for political opponents to use whatever information is available to undermine/defeat an opponent. Sanders was being a stick in the mud and the party organization became frustrated. Perfectly normal behavior in a democracy. Can the media move on? That is the relevant question.
What the Guardian story ,on Bernie’s version of unity, doesn’t seem to mention is that he is Pied Pipering his delegates to a meeting miles away from the convention to try to assimilate them into the collective while the true believers take care of the business of voting their ‘progressive’ platform into the record.
We’ll see later today how this clever ploy works, I’m still hoping for a real smackdown on the floor of the convention if these delegates have the spine to resist.

Remember when we were young and it seemed, at least briefly, that it might be possible to steer this society onto a saner course? It’s all getting a little blurry, but I think we thought that.
The big difference between our generation and the millennials, is ours could get jobs and be upwardly mobile. Go to college and you have a good career. End at high school, and there were still unionized (or union-competitive) industrial jobs.
So after the Vietnam War ended, and we got busy with families and jobs, we decided the system wasn’t so bad after all — especially if we were white.
That won’t happen this time. Millennials, and the generation coming after them, are fucked. The inequality gap is only getting wider. So, within 5-10 years either the Democratic Party dramatically changes, or a third party arises as seriously competitive.
And if neither of those happen, and no change can be had within the legitimate system, I do expect blood in the streets. Much more of it. Whites are going to be right out there with BLM, and BLM is going to grow and possibly become more militant.
I don’t want that. Not for my grandsons. Not for my country. But history says it will.

I have to except myself (hey, I’m exceptional!) from the majority who “decided the system wasn’t so bad after all.” Having grown up, mostly in a long series of trailer parks, as a poor white transient, I never thought for a moment that the system was anything other than a mechanism to serve the elites. The fact that I was lucky enough (and it was nothing but luck) to be sufficiently white and bright to get out of that early hole never confused me about the system’s evil essence.
You are entirely correct that Millennials and their younger counterparts are well and truly fucked. What the system has done to them is nothing less than astonishing — they’ve moved the working class jobs far away (the ones they haven’t automated), told the youngsters that they all need to go to college to participate in the “knowledge economy” and then left them un- or under-employed with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. I have had, for a long time now, a hard time understanding why they haven’t already moved to tear the motherfucker down.
Eventually, if this continues, there will be blood in the streets. That’s how scenarios like this always play out. The question is whether the blood will flow due to a general uprising with a more positive outcome than our current ugly reality, or whether it will flow when the oligarchs and their authoritarian running-dog lackeys “crack down” (as they so love to say) on dissidence and dissidents, so hard that full-fledged fascism will prevail.
I don’t think there’s much hope for the Democrats. Their reaction to rightist aggression, for decades, now, has been, consistently, to move ever more-rightward themselves.
And the system is designed with countless safeguards to prevent a meaningful third-party challenge from succeeding.
I know it’s easier for me, without children or grandchildren (we decided long ago that we didn’t want to leave what we thought was developing as a heritage for kids), to see the future as likely hopeless. My heart cries for the youngster and kids I love, even though they aren’t “mine.” To have hope when you do have heirs must seem almost an imperative.

There are two primary considerations for the DNC when fielding a particular candidate for president:
1. The primaries
2. The general election
In her 2008 bid for president, Clinton’s polling revealed that, by May of that year, she was trailing behind Obama in every demographic except women age 50 or older. Think about that for a moment… A black junior senator from Illinois with no name recognition was able to become the front runner against Hillary Clinton by running as a progressive, party outsider – does this sound familiar? If one tracks Clinton’s demise in that election cycle, it becomes abundantly clear that Hillary was incapable of connecting even with the majority of white voters, easterners, or the majority of women – her strongest demographics; the more that she opened her mouth, the less liked she became. Conversely, Obama hired a very savvy public relations firm who micro-managed his progressive public image to perfection.
In 2016, the DNC decided to once again throw their weight behind Clinton in the primaries with an eye to overcoming the obvious personal shortcomings that plagued her in 2008. And again they chose to field a progressive party “outsider” whose message would act both as a foil for Clinton’s stay-the-course message and a lightening rod for her rising opposition in the republican party. Even though the DNC has been in a very strong position to shape the 2016 primary contest between Clinton and Sanders, Clinton’s polling once again has revealed that she is perceived as being dishonest an unlikable even though she was joined at the hip with Obama. Even the mainstream media was in her corner for most of the primary – ignoring and/or dismissing primary results that revealed her deficiencies. Yet an aging, “progressive” senator with no sex appeal managed to come from no where by once gain engaging the very demographics that failed Clinton in 2008 – chief among these is the 18-30 demographic.
Was the DNC concerned that Sanders might repeat Obama’s 2008 meteoric feat? Obama proved that there is always a risk that the party favorite (insider) might not fare well with the voters. Thus the choice of Sander’s as a progressive “outsider” would have to be closely managed by the DNC to limit his role to that which was intended. All of this talk about the DNC conspiring against Sanders simply reveals a very effective party strategy to assure all intended outcomes. Pledged delegates were the primary mean by which Sander’s aspirations were kept in check. Limiting the number of debates was another (keep the bitch from talking to much). And limiting the number of significant party member endorsements (e.g. Warren) was the third. Bottom line: Clinton won the nomination and Sander’s dutifully delivered the demographics that Clinton once again alienated with her I am Obama 2.0 campaign (which incidentally worked brilliantly on the African American demographic and woman whose age, education, and income mirrored her own).
Bernie Sanders voted with Hillary Clinton 92.5 percent of the time!!! Again, Sanders voted with the democrats 98 percent of the time throughout his career. Sanders merely provided the illusion of choice, nothing more.

Many of those “significant” differences were realized in the year running up to the 2008 presidential election (2007-2008). Clinton was clearly positioning herself as an across-the-isle centrist who “could get things done” in preparation for her 2008 presidential bid. Those of us that actually listened to every debate between Sanders and Clinton repeatedly heard make references to her capacity to work with her republican opposition while in the Senate. This fact does not make Sanders a “party outsider” however.

Note: there’s nothing in the DNC Charter and Bylaws that says the DNC can’t favor one candidate over another based on policy or personal preference. However the rules do list a bunch of specific things that the DNC isn’t supposed to discriminate on, including religion, so in this specific case, Marshall should probably be disciplined in some way for proposing that they violate the rules.

What’s a “White country”? It’s a country that doesn’t exist anywhere in the world, but only in the fevered imaginations of bigots who think the specific melanin content of someone’s skin (in both type and amount) is actually relevant to anything tangible in the real world (which it isn’t) except lack of propensity to get skin cancer.

There is only one “species” of hominids remaining (i.e. human beings) as a scientific matter of fact. All remaining human beings on the planet are in fact homo sapiens sapiens, a subspecies of genus homo, regardless of their outward appearance.

The idiotic idea of “race” is a stupid one not found in biology, science or taxonomic classification. Nobody, and I mean nobody is “white”, except to the extent they have relatively less melanin content in their skin than somebody else standing next to them. It means absolutely nothing except to the extent some have lesser/greater risk of and/or ability for their skin to absorb, and/or disperse or dissipate, UV radiation (i.e. melanogenesis) via skin cells.
Some dogs are black and some have spots. Some human beings have “black” hair and skin while others have “whiter” skin and “red” hair.
It is nothing more than a function of the type and content of the particular melanin present in their skin and a function of genotypical diversity within any species except arachnids (i.e. like spiders) and a very few others apparently.

Again, not going to teach internet goofs the basics science and evolution. In answer to your question “are some dog breeds more aggressive, or more intelligent, or more friendly”, I’d say define an objective test (independent of environment/education of animal) that sets a baseline or metric for “aggressiveness, intelligence and friendliness” and then we could have a valuable discussion about “selectively breeding for inheritable traits”, and the concepts of phenotypic variation being a function of genotypic variation and the processes within any species of genetic variation, mutation, genetic drift etc.
But none of that has to do with the reality that there is “variation” within any species as to those traits (assuming you could define them objectively and meaningfully as a scientific matter rather than as “social” constructs), nor does any of that change the fact that there is no such thing as “race” i.e. a “subspecies” of human beings that is distinguishable/distinguishes one group of human beings from another.
What you are foolishly attempting to argue is the idea that some “groups” of humans based on relative melanin content are somehow inherently more “aggressive, intelligent, or friendly” than any other group as a statistical reality and that simply has never been established scientifically speaking.
Yes, some breeds do tend to exhibit particular characteristics, because they have been selectively and deliberately bred by humans to reinforce them.
And that gives me an idea: If we could control human mating and reproduction, we might be able, eventually, to breed racism and the tendency toward conquest, enslavement and genocide out of white Europeans. We might even be able to breed out racism.

We all know that eight years ago, Obama had a nice sit-down with Clinton and promised her the full DNC weight behind her when she ran again. So here it is, in all it’s rank ugliness. Actually, if Clinton loses the election on November 8th it will be solely because the Superdelegates insisted on putting a war criminal, a liar, a fraud and a coward over the top.
They still have a choice as I believe there will be a roll call vote where Sanders name will be put into consideration.
If the Superdelegates see the writing on the wall (as most Americans are now seeing), they can still dump Her Royal Highness.
But they won’t. It will be the Superdelegates who force us to dump Hillary Clinton since they do not have the guts or the courage of their convictions to do so.

Bernie supporters are probably less gullible and more economically savvy than the supporters of Hillary or any Republican candidate. I, for example, have a degree in economics (with high honor), an MBA, and 40 plus business experience. I have spent hours studying Bernie’s proposals and have come to the conclusion that they are eminently sound.
If they were all enacted we would end up with a much higher GDP, higher real employment, higher median income, and a lower debt than otherwise.
My guess, I could be wrong, is that you have been taken in by the many articles written against Bernie’s proposals. If you re read them, you will see that the authors did not do any real analysis of his proposals themselves but they can all or most be traced back to bogus analyses done by the Tax Policy Center which is an arm or the corporate sponsored, Third Way, Urban/Brookings institute posing as an impartial organization. Analyze The Tax Policy Center’s work yourself and you will see that they are either totally incompetent (doubtful) or were clearly willing to put out bogus analyses of Bernie’s proposals in order to discredit his campaign.

You can be in favor of mass spying, torture and unbridled gun access. You can openly advocate the destruction of entire nations based on their ethnic or religious heritage. You can choose to seek the financial support of criminal bank executives whom you’ve helped with their scams, then help escape accountability for their crimes. You can deport thousands of people who are already established in this country and making enormous and positive contributions. You can build a fence to keep out people you’ve labeled as criminals. You can promise to kill innocent relatives of people you’ve designated a terrorist. You can promise anything and everything, then fail to deliver. And on, and on, and on…
You can do all of those things–even be expected and rewarded to do those things–but the one thing you cannot do, the single thing you simply are not allowed to do, is be an atheist, agnostic or otherwise non-believer. You cannot be a disbeliever in the supernatural. You cannot believe that there is no god. You cannot say under any circumstances anywhere in our country, “I do not believe in god,” and be on a presidential ticket. It simply isn’t allowed, if you want to be the President of the United States.
America is sick with religion. We are possibly the sickest nation with the religion disease, and have paid dearly for it, and will continue to pay dearly for it, until we are no longer sick with it. This will not happen soon…

Reading through the emails, what I see is DWS ranting about false media narratives, and a frustration amongst DNC officials that Bernie had yet to concede. These are all late April/May stories, when it was clear that Bernie wasn’t going to win. Heck, I even voted for him, but I knew when it was clear that he lost (the Acela primaries were the nail in the coffin).
This would have been inexcusable if it was in January. February. But this was late April and May, when everyone (including me, a Bernie voter) was frustrated AF with Bernie not conceding. You’ll notice that none of the things that they suggested ever became reality. These people were venting, thinking about proposals, and shooting them down. This is hardly incriminating.

Normally, I don’t think the DNC would stoop this low and abandon its stance of impartiality. But Mr. Sanders proved to be a stronger candidate than expected. His role was to energize progressives and then deliver them to Mrs. Clinton at the convention. He will still do that, of course, but in the process he won a number of state primaries, which was not in the script. So I think the DNC was justified in using extreme methods to restore the party to its natural state of affairs. If Mr. Sanders had won the nomination, a number of important donors would have been quite upset. Everyone should be breathing a sigh of relief at such a narrow escape, not trying to stir up further trouble.

I really don’t believe the national Democratic Party should be the party of “at least we aren’t as overtly corrupt as the Republicans and ‘oooooohhhhh be very fucking afraid of everything GOP because they will burn America to the ground, round up all the minorities and take a way a woman’s physical autonomy” as their campaign slogans and/or platform.
It’s why the Democratic Party is hemorrhaging registered voters and will continue to until they figure out that simple truth. For every good policy position the Democratic Party seeks to advance they are fundamentally and absolutely undermining their own legitimacy by taking campaign donations from the very entities they claim to be fighting, by engaging in any sort of corruption whatsoever (or the appearance of corruption), and in constantly trying to tip the scales to the “centrist” neoliberal fucksticks with a (D) by their name that have been selling out the American people (right along with the GOP) going on my entire adult life.
Why organized labor, or what’s left of it, supports the Democratic Party is fundamentally beyond me except for the Ds appointments to the NLRB. Other than that, the Democratic Party hasn’t done fuck all for working class people (on balance) for decades. What’s left of organized labor should be running their own candidates.
About the only thing the national Democratic Party has going for it at this point is ability to nominate Supreme Court justices (which I’ll concede is no small power) if/when they can capture the White House and are nominally better on “social issues” (again no small matter) and environmental issues (again to the degree they differ from GOP in actual substance no small issue).
The Democratic Party continues, in my mind anyway, to be marginally better than the GOP but a long way from being what I would say is representative of the change that needs to take place in this nation and actually make a legitimate claim to being the leader of the free world in anything other than a sick joke sense. Particularly and specifically in the domestic and foreign economic realm.
It really is sad. I think people in America and the world are thirsting for something better. And I think if sold to them the right way, would both support and pay for the services and kind of world they’d like to live in (without war, without an inordinate dependence on fossil fuels, and one where we take care of each other via health care, education and economic stability and opportunity which we aren’t going to get without highly regulated and redistributive economic policies). The people want a government that is more transparent and accountable, less elite interest driven and something significantly different than the slop and crumbs they’ve been offered as a choice going on decades–policy and personnel wise.
I originally thought Clinton would thump Trump, but with the vanilla pick of Tim Kaine and how the party establishment treated Bernie Sanders, I’d be real shocked if she does anything other than squeak one out in November. I never understood this argument. It is based on the premise of judicial corruption. We have lifetime appointments for Supreme court judges because the idea was this would allow intellectual and judicial independence. What we have today is political parties using promised judicial corruption combined with a lifetime appointment as the best reason to vote for them.
If you believe that political parties can deliver a certain judicial outcome to their constituency, then this is the reason to eliminate lifetime appointments and seriously begin to address corruption in the courts, not a reason to embrace a lifetime of anti-democratic royalty.
Think about it. It’s incredible. The parties are advertising that if you will just vote for us, then we will buy judges for you. And this is the top of the list for why we should vote for a particular party. The selling point is that they will rig the courts.
It’s like having an affair with a married man and thinking that he won’t sleep around on you. The relationship was born on infidelity. You were told upfront that all is a lie–and yet you still believe.
What part of the argument don’t you understand? That the Supreme Court and its individual judges are both political and ideological, always have been and always will be? And that it is better to be able to influence its composition than not? Anybody who believes otherwise doesn’t understand the history of the Supreme Court (or any other court for that matter–you are aware that in many places in the country judges and DA/prosecutors are elected positions).
Look, I don’t know about “buying” any particular outcome as a function of have the democratic power to appoint federal judges, but I sure as shit would rather my judges be motivated by reason, expansion of human, civil and economic rights as a function of their ideology.
And of I also don’t know about the Supreme Court necessarily being “anti-democratic” if it is a function of the periodic shifts, in both the White House and public opinion, where if you can muster enough democratic votes to elect who you want President along with it comes the power of judicial appointment.
Here’s the thing, there is no such thing as “calling balls and strikes” in the true “ideologically independent” sense and I have no idea what that could even possibly mean. Every single person on the planet has biases and an “ideology” or “values” whatever it/they may be. And the US Supreme Court with all its flaws together with the US Constitution and U.S.C. with all its imperfectly created human laws is a function of one ideology, agenda, goal, value or another.
I don’t particularly have a problem with that. I have a problem with the worldview (and judicial philosophy) of Supremes like the recently deceased Scalia, Alito, Thomas, Roberts and at times Kennedy (although no judge has ever not had a decision that I didn’t at one time or another disagree with).
So yeah it is a pretty big deal and I don’t have a particular problem with trying to influence its composition because I’m not sure I can conceive of a better system until we evolve a different quality of human being AND the American people some how magically come to share the exact same values and agenda . . . and that’s not going to happen so I think we’ve got what we’ve got and best to be in a position to influence it rather than be the object of its influence.

People who suck, and we are stuck with them forever. The world of kings.
Now maybe a lifetime appointment made more sense in the caveman days when federal law and federal government was much more limited, but today it is an anti-democratic and pro-authoritarian.
Lifetime appointments don’t work, and if admitting this means that maybe we won’t elect as many democrats, then that should be a sacrifice we are willing to make for the sake of our justice system.

It’s funny, but when you look at all the things that the founding fathers got wrong, it’s the things that buffer and dilute democracy the most, that have failed the worst. And this is one of them.
Shorter response: we likely agree that lifetime appointments are a problem. I agree that Supreme Court justices, and federal judges for that matter, should be term limited to about 24 years at most.
An individual doesn’t really have the breadth of experience and legal chops as an attorney to be a sitting federal judge or Supreme until they are (at the earliest), IMHO, hitting about 45 years of age (giving the earliest K through JD) which translates to about 20 years of practice as an attorney.
And just so you know, generally speaking, the Supreme Court (and courts generally though there is some academic dispute about this) is a “lagging” indicator of legal, economic, civil rights and social trends to the extent they enshrine them in their decisions. Some would argue that is as it should be given the “undemocratic” nature of the Supreme Court. Others, like me, wish “the rule of law” would be a bit more of a leading indicator, but depending on the Court’s ideological composition that can be a very double edged sword.
Like I said, I can’t really envision a “perfect” highest court in the land because it is a function of the politics and institutional forces at play in a society made up of imperfect human beings who disagree on just about everything. Particularly in America.
On the contrary, the Supreme Court was one of the few things the founding fathers got right. Firstly, a lifetime appointment means that many Justices die in harness, thus saving a large outlay of money for a government pension. Secondly, the court opinions are written by the Justice’s clerks, who are generally selected for their intelligence, and whose young minds are sufficiently supple to grapple with difficult problems. This allows the Justices to spend their time attending operas together, and hunting at exclusive clubs. The Justices earn their salaries by taking the heat for the opinions, allowing their clerks the freedom to consider the finer points of the law in relative anonymity. Thirdly, the system gives people a reason to vote. No reasonable person is going to vote for either Mr. Trump or Mrs. Clinton. But many will vote in order to give their team a shot at appointing a Supreme Court judge.
Where is the downside? Democracy does have a certain romantic appeal – until you see the nine reality show stars the public selects as the next justices.
Do not dishonor people who want to save innocent babies. They deserve more respect then that. If you disagree fine, but their cause is a noble one!

Define “baby”. I don’t believe a “human being” is created at conception. That’s silly and reductionist and contrary to science’s understanding of prenatal development. Goes like this: zygote, blastocyst, fetal stage . . . it isn’t until about week 26-31 weeks that even a partial functioning nervous system has developed (i.e. connected brain and central nervous system), and it isn’t until after 31 weeks that it is fair to say a “baby” has a chance of functional survival outside the womb.
And here’s my take on it, anything without a functional brain and central nervous system that can receive sensory input and/or control the other functions of the body consciously (rather than simply autonomic response) isn’t really a “human being”, but a potential human being.

But it was rightly discarded and never implemented, just like the majority of ideas that pop up during brainstorming. It’s how you get to what makes the most sense. The ideas proposed and discarded make up the path to the right idea that’s finally used.

Well, this emails is from late in the game when everyone was saying it was impossible for Sanders to win. It’s dated 5/5/16. Mathematically, the Democratic contest was over after 4/19/16, with the NY and other northeastern primaries being held that day. While this email seems to indicate that at least some higher-ups in the DNC were conspiring to get Sanders to drop out (which many in the party were privately calling for after that 4/19 NY primary, it was widely reported), it doesn’t provide any evidence that the whole process was rigged from the beginning. Still, it does indicate inappropriate meddling late in the game.
One’s personal religious and spirituality choices and beliefs should be irrelevant to the process of judging a person’s qualifications for public office.
This is true on both sides of the aisle, whether it is Huckabee questioning Trump’s Christian values, Trump critiquing Clinton’s faith, or Clinton’s staff attacking Sanders.
Of course, the (unsubstantiated) claim is that a member of the RNC was contemplating doing so. Not nearly the same as Trump doing so blatantly and publicly against Clinton.
Wrong. Religion, if sincere, affects your world view and your values. It tells you a lot about a person if they attend church regularly and they church they attend tells you a lot about them too. The religious views of a candidate are relevant. And no, Trump is not a Christian, and most likely neither is Obama. Obama most likely has no strong religious views at all and just saw his “Christianity” as a vehicle to help his political career.
So some Democratic Party officials were talking about a possible Bernie Sanders issue that some voters might think was important and Bernie Sanders supporters think the DNC should have hidden it for Bernie during that Party Primary even though the Republicans might use that issue in the general against him if he were to somehow win, or hell froze over. Got it.

There is a simpler answer. DNC needed to know what vulnerability does the candidates have and how prepared they are to answer it as well as needing information to dispense donor money where it will count. Questions like that will be asked on the campaign trail particularly by opponents in final few months. It is a legitimate concern politically. I am sure Bernie had been asked before and will be asked again.
The same goes when we talk about Hillary’s email scandal or her paid speeches on Wall Street or the donations from dictators to her corrupt foundation or her support for fracking and the TPP… Still, the DNC asked us to shut up.

Bernie Sanders DIDN’T trust the DNC to be impartial and unbiased during the primaries and give each candidate equal support rather than favoring one over the other.
But none of these ever became a reality. This was DNC officials (mostly DWS) ranting about how Bernie wouldn’t concede after he had clearly lost (disclaimer: I voted for Bernie). These are all April and May emails where they were just frustrated and trying to usher the process along. I’m sure we’ve all been frustrated and randomly shot out stupid proposals we never followed through on.
The point is, NONE of these ever became a reality. There was no press cycle about Bernie’s campaign not being prepared (which seems to be slightly true, if even O’Malley got his committee submissions in on time like Clinton, but not Bernie), there was no Kentucky religion guy. None of these came into fruition. Did we expect the DNC to like Sanders? No. But is any of this frustration and venting, but ultimately zero action, incriminating? Hardly.
People who know Bernie say to never underestimate him. This isn’t over. He WAY out preformed what they wanted from him. In fact this may be the end of the Democratic party. In spite of NBC

It was a suggestion. Problem? If this is the only thing that came out of all of those emails, it’s a non-factor. But, when you decide as an organization for the Democratic nomination to let in a non-Democrat, you get all types of issues – as seen previously.

Doesn’t surprise me. Hillary has been known to go off on “the jews”, including calling Bill’s chief a staff a “dirty jew bastard” when she was first lady of Arkansas. This has been verified by Clinton’s staff at the time.

I have posted on several other Huffpost-related articles about how anti-Semitism has been used against Bernie Sanders, and how it finds a receptive audience in the African-American community. It has been an issue for awhile, since before Jesse Jackson’s “Hymietown” remarks. And, there is that little thing called Article Six of the US Constitution which includes: “…no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States”

There’s no antisemitism here — it’s anti-atheist. The idea was to pressure Bernie into saying he doesn’t believe in the tenets of the Jewish religion. That’he’s an atheist.

You are confused, Jews are a tribe/race/whatever some of them happen to follow the religion of their ancestors, also know as Judaism. More Jews are atheist than theist so calling Bernie an Atheist Jew is (technically) correct. Christians are not a tribe/race/whatever, they are the followers of a religion. For example an Italian can either be an atheist or a Christian but not both, a Jew can be an atheist or a theist but either way he/she/it would still be a Jew. Yes, I live in the Midwest and know tons of them, and always have. Moreover, my undergrad degree is in religious studies with an emphasis on religion in America. Both by experience of them, and by formal training, I know that evangelicals (I used to object to calling virtually born agains by that term, but eventually gave up) are very well-disposed to Jews and have a a major hard-on for Israel. It sustains an enormous evangelical-tourism industry in Israel. (Tours often led by the likes of Mike Huckabee, who adores Israel.)
And even to the extent some are still actively antisemitic, they’d vote for a Jew long, long before they’d vote for an atheist, and Brad Marshall knows that.
If you don’t believe in race, or don’t believe that Jewish is a race then, I think that your argument makes sense. But, if you believe that Jewish is a race, then there is plenty anti-semitic in that email.

Why is it so damn hard to accept the idea that because Judaism is both a race and religion that Marshall’s statements could be pretty damn anti-semitic. So, again, the chair had to call Bernie personally for his staff to finally get us critical information. So, they gave us an awful list just a few days before we had to make the announcements.

I really wish The Intercept or someone would investigate the whisper campaign about Bernie being a Jew in the lead up to the South Carolina and Super Tuesday primaries. During that period, there were countless articles in publications including the NY Times and Washington Post with the words “Bernie Sanders” and “Jewish” or “Jew.” Additionally, google searches of Bernie Sanders during that same period typically yielded results with those articles, and thus having a demonstrable effect on voters searching about him prior to those primaries.
My gut says that the HRC campaign, the DNC, or supporting surrogates/consulting firms encouraged journalists to discuss him being Jewish ahead of those primaries, as voters in those states have much higher percentages of religious Christians, and far more bigoted views of Jews.
You’re right about that — there really was a passing whisper campaign about Sanders’ religious beliefs, right up until the Ohio primaries, when finally articles were published on the Intercept, Mother Jones and other prominent news sites that even those unlikely to sympathize with Sanders’ background (meaning Muslims, Christians, Hispanics, Conservatives and Blacks) were very vocal in their support for Sanders, because even the dumbest schlub understands that religion doesn’t make a difference in politics.
I’m from South Carolina myself, and although the church does hold a lot of sway, I don’t think that the public was affected by Sanders’ heritage. Why Sanders lost is no big surprise — in a lot of states, voting offices simply kicked out workers, Hispanics, Blacks, Arabs and other potentially socialist-minded individuals on a minor technicality of voter registration regulations; one also has to take vote forgery, vote duplication and ballot disposal into account (I’m absolutely certain that the rigged farce of a “democratic system” in the US isn’t beyond forging votes, buying up multiples of the same vote, and throwing away votes from the opposition).
Why Sanders specifically lost in Southern states like the Carolinas orGeorgia can be explained, I think, by examining the industries there and the long arm of the military. The South houses some of the most important military academies and facilities in the entire country. It is common practice for officers to force privates or recruits to vote for a particular candidate. The German and Japanese megacorps in the South have access to a lot of forged votes from abroad, or they could simply forge votes themselves by borrowing identities from employees (and believe me, they’d do that in a heartbeat, because they hate Sanders more than the Koch Bros. do).
And then there’s the matter of religious schools. Much like military schools, religious high schools and universities are not beyond forcing their harshly disciplined students who are of voting age to vote for specific candidates.
Put it all together, and you have a pretty clear idea of why Sanders lost.
People should keep in mind that the numbers crunched in the polls, even the official ones, are hokey. Truth be told, the vast majority of Americans (and not just Americans, but a lot of other people outside of America, from Germans to Italians to Venezuelans) support Sanders.
The fact that Sanders hasn’t won the forefront of the Democrats shows that the voting system is fraudulent. That would imply that America isn’t a democratic country at all, unsurprisingly, since democracy is impossible in a profit-driven society, and America is one of the many profit-driven nations on Earth. More than that, though, America is NATO’s main military force. It does the dirty work of German banks, Japanese businessmen, Saudi drug tycoons and French colonial lords. At the moment, German banks, which dominate the global stock exchange and are expanding their stronghold on /every/ market with utmost aggression, are planning on an attack on Russia, and probably Iran and China in the mix. For such a big war, the banks need a big army, and America has the biggest army at their disposal, and could grow an even bigger one in only four months, thanks to the emergency draft program that has lain dormant for a long while now.
Clinton’s “Artful Smear” moniker (IMO) was also designed to be anti-semitic.
