Donald Trump yesterday announced the “Reagan Alumni Advisory Council for Trump-Pence,” made up of 240 former Reagan advisers who support Trump for president.
The first quote in Trump’s press release, from Reagan’s attorney general Edwin Meese, begins like this: “Many of us remember 1980, a time when, as today, America suffered from high unemployment and even higher interest rates.”
In fact, the unemployment rate in October 1980 was 7.5 percent. The unemployment rate today is 5.0 percent.
Interest rates in 1980 were 15.3 percent. Today they are 3.3 percent.
The current unemployment rate is so low that conservatives are loudly demanding that the Federal Reserve raise interest rates to force unemployment higher. Current interest rates are the lowest they’ve been in at least 55 years.
Meese provides a useful public service by reminding Americans that Trump’s bizarrely obsessive fantasizing isn’t an aberration for top Republicans. The GOP gave up on this universe long ago, starting with Ronald Reagan, so it makes sense that Reagan’s old staffers would feel right at home with Trump.
You could spend your entire life cataloguing Reagan’s peculiar beliefs about the world, but here are just a few:
In 1983, during a ceremony for winners of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Reagan told a story about a World War II pilot who chose to stay with a trapped underling on a crashing B-17 rather than jumping to safety. This didn’t happen in real life, but it did happen in “Wing and a Prayer,” one of Reagan’s favorite movies.
In 1984, while meeting with the prime minister of Israel, Reagan told him that he had been part of a U.S. military unit that had filmed concentration camps at the end of World War II. Moreover, Reagan said, he had saved a personal copy of the footage to show to anyone who might claim the Holocaust never happened. During the war Reagan lived in Hollywood and never left the U.S.
In 1985, he claimed that apartheid South Africa had “eliminated the segregation that we once had in our own country.”
In 1986, after the U.S. had traded weapons to Iran in return for the release of U.S. hostages in Lebanon, Reagan said, “We did not — repeat — did not trade weapons or anything else for hostages, nor will we.”
For Meese’s part, he enthusiastically followed the lead of his boss. Just before Christmas in 1983, he told the National Press Club that Ebenezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol” suffered from “bad press in his time. If you really look at the facts, he didn’t exploit Bob Cratchit. … Bob, in fact, had good cause to be happy with his situation. … Let’s be fair to Scrooge.”
All of these examples are from the truly essential 1989 book “The Clothes Have No Emperor” by comedy writer Paul Slansky. It’s the best resource there is if you want to know more — much, much, much more — about the era when the Republican Party finally slipped the surly bonds of reality.
Top photo: Ronald Reagan takes time out for a lunch break during conference with some of his top aides in Los Angeles, July 9, 1980.
I had forgotten about those lizard’s eyes of him.
WNYC and The Nation are running a series called “the United States of Anxiety,” the premise being that this campaign season shows we’re much more… well… ANXIOUS than back in the day. In the promo, an announcer asks
“How did we get from this:
[voice 1] ‘It’s morning again in America…’
[voice 2] ‘I’m just glad I’m getting close to leaving this world instead of coming into it…’ ”
Now, voice 2 is a woman-in-the-street sound bite which I’ll accept, for the sake of argument, as a token for Anxiety 2016… but voice 1 is adman Hal Riney narrating his 1984 Reagan campaign ad (sunrise over wheatfields, sturdy workers, happy families yadda). IOW, not a man-in-the-street expression of Confidence 1984, but a sales job for same — and nobody behind this promo seems to have noticed the category error. So maybe part of the answer to the rhetorical “how did we get from Us Then to Us Now?” is that too many of us bought the sales job then, or — if too young to remember the 1980s — have bought the GOP canonization of St. Ronald’s Happy Olden Tymes.
Does Jeremy Scahill still write for this website? He was a big reason I checked in on it occasionally. Seems to have become another DNC propaganda website. Bummer.
Your kidding right???? TI has been ripping Shillery!!!! And rightly so
I think you’re checking far too rarely, if you think The Intercept is pro DNC, and not very thoroughly, if you can’t find the newest Scahill piece:
https://theintercept.com/2016/11/08/the-true-scandal-of-2016-was-the-torture-of-chelsea-manning/
Ugh. Please do not make me defend the awful GOP…. but there are a few really dumb mistakes in this article.
1) Reagan was inaugurated in Jan 1981… so you’re comparing stats from the end of the Carter administration to the end of the Obama administration. Derp.
2) The way that the U3 unemployment numbers are computed is so insane that it serves literally no purpose other than political propaganda. Even U6 is a bit sketchy. People who should know better that go around spouting off U3 comparisons are either idiots or liars… which are you? The mind-blowing irony in your case is that it was the Reagan administration that really started monkeying with U3.
3) If you really want to slam Reagan in a way that even the most ardent conservative would have difficulty defending is that he took a nation weary of interventionist foreign policy – which prior to his administration had been an almost exclusively progressive stance – and made it “cool” again, this time with conservatives. Prior to that you had the just Democrats getting suckered into war for “humanitarian” (corporate) interests, and the Republicans were deeply suspicious of this. This didn’t go away, if you look at the Clinton and Obama administrations. Reagan got the Republicans hooked on militarism and interventionism in order to contain a non-existent communist threat, which laid the groundwork for the entire mess in the middle east. That this pretty much positioned Osama Bin Laden to attack the US in 2001 is the icing on this particular shit cake.
I’m just going to point out one of your errors, I’m sure there’s many more . The first point that you’re crying about was a quote from Trump’s press release and the quote is by one of Reagan lawyers . Did you not realize that the author of this article was quoting or am I missing something here? Actually forget it , lol , I read the last part of your comment and it’s pretty obvious that you’re an idiot ,that is so fucking funny that you accuse the author of this article to be either a liar or stupid , I accuse the Author of being objective and funny , I accuse you of being a hypocrite and lazy.
You have missed Mr. Schwarz’s hidden point, which is that truth doesn’t matter to Democrats any more than it does to Republicans. Both sides use lies to spur contempt for the other tribe, especially when they are preparing to jettison their own stated principles. Having a greater evil soothes the soul.
First of all, keep up the good enlightening stories Jon. You educate those too young to remember.
Secondly, I myself was suckered into voting for Ronald Reagan. Mea culpa.
Reagan was a great speaker. In my opinion, he was much better than George H.W. Bush. Better than George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Barak Obama and Jimmy Carter. In my opinion he was just as much a great used car salesman as Bill Clinton and Donald Drumpf. Full of SH1T!
He used to rail against Iran and terrorism. Then through Oliver North, he traded arms to Iran (supposedly the Phoenix missiles he traded were inoperable). He and his wife railed against drugs (“just say no”). Then he (again through Oliver North and the CIA [Air America]) smuggled cocaine into the U.S. and got the minorities hooked on crack.
He railer against Castro & Cuba for destabilizing Central American countries. Then he (again through Oliver North) delivered weapons to the ‘Contras’ and the Salvadoran death squads (EM: Escuadron de la Muerte [squad of death]), that murdered Salvadoran priests (among them Archbishop Oscar Romero), killed 10 U.S. catholic nuns that had been stopped at a roadblock, American reporters (John Hoagland among them) and countless other poor Salvadoran activists (some estimates as high as 35,000 killed).
Not to mention (but I’ll mention it anyway) Executive Order 12333 (AKA: EO12333) that effectively ended the constitutional ‘right to privacy’.
He was a stupid, senile POS hypocrite, and anyone still clinging to his legacy for political purposes -should be shot and burned in effigy (maybe not in that order).
Fast forwarding to today…
Also IMHO, neither Donald Drumpf nor Hillary Clinton has the moral high ground to be president. But since the presidency apparently has nothing to do with personal morals, it should be based on ability (not to ‘lead the country’ ex: Hitler) to recognize problems and rectify those problems with reasonable solutions. It is not about appointing people who have supported you (George W. Bush -Michael Brown Undersecretary of EP&R [director of FEMA]) and/or who have raised money for you, it is about being a great manager of capable, intelligent managers, creating reasonable policies, and cleaning up the law books by deleting bad laws still on the books.
Liars, hypocrites, and bigots need not apply.
From Salmon Rushdie’s FB page:
“So, to recap. Trump will go on trial in November accused of racketeering, and again in December accused of child rape. He is a sexual predator, hasn’t released his tax returns, and has used his foundation’s money to pay his legal fees. He has abused the family of a war hero and… oh, but let’s talk about some emails Hillary didn’t send from someone else’s computer, that weren’t a crime anyway, because that’s how to choose a president. Come on, America. Focus.”
650,000 messages found on pervert husband of top aide’s home computer may be “pertinent” to the parallel investigation of Clinton’s unauthorized usage of a “private” server for classified communications. Looks like the Total Information Awareness collect, store, search, analyze and kinetic action system is up and running and paying off HUGE dividends.
Ever wonder what all those HUGE updates to your devices are really doing?
The Dems freaking out in full damage control mode is more entertaining than any Reagan movie or Trump TV show.
I’m beginning to think we will be stuck with campaign mode “journalism” regardless of who wins.
We are broken beyond repair.
The last time we were this broken 620,000 Americans died.
We need to drain the swamp before we start killing each other again, or they will kill another 620,000 Americans.
Both parties are Anti American Cartels who are willing to destroy our country for power.
Commenter altohone might suggest, as would I, it’s been more of a singular war party since Reagan – and across the isle antics during that time have largely been for show to play the voters. National media’s been their willing accomplice in this, and altohone correctly points out they’ll have to cover their ass with permanent Hillary pumping once she’s installed in office.

It is sad and repulsive that you people have nothing better to do than dig up old dirt and do your best to trash anyone’s reputation or discredit anyone who supports Donal Trump. Now Ronald Reagan is one of the most respected and loved past Presidents this nation has ever had! The younger generation do not know him nor do they remember anything about him, so when they see this post you have posted they are nieve enough to believe this junk! It doesn’t matter if what President Reagan said was off a movie or real life, because he had a way with people and talking to people! He had a heart of gold and truest loved this nation and the people in it! Whatever he said, he said to get a point across and to get the attention of whoever he was speaking to, in efforts to better America and help Americans! You are a disgrace and I assure you will not ever find happiness and content! You sir will will not prosper and will only lose self respect and lose respect from others! You will have to answer for everything you do and say and report one day! Shameful is what you are! I do not find your report on President Reagan educational, funny or revelant! If you want to be a real journalist and make a real difference in the world….why don’t you investigate why the FBI didn’t go in and confiscate all electronics that Hillary Clinton owned and her staff and do a real investigation on how 4 American soldiers and 1 American Ambassador were killed with no help to be saved from our Government! Investigate something that really matters! Earn the respect you want and seek! Wake up
you’re fucking up an open and shut case — the Scrooge bit by Meese was clearly a joke and the NYT reported it as such at the time:
“In the course of his speech, he drew laughter from his audience by wryly identifying with Ebenezer Scrooge and saying the Dickensian skinflint suffered from ”a bad press. Even as he joked, however….”
http://www.nytimes.com/1983/12/16/us/meese-assails-myth-that-reagan-has-weak-record-on-poor.html
Anyway Jon — WHO IS YOUR AUDIENCE HERE? Dipshits who show up to read Salon and Slate and Huffington Post and Guardian standard cookie cutter denunciations of Republicans? Or people who know that the Republicans are the all-time greatest gift to our real sell-out bastard overlords the Democrats who are far worse because they pretend to be our friends?
no kidding. well asked!
Only…exactly stated…Very well said!
Yeah…RWNJ are always “jes’ funnin'” when they get caught saying what they really think.
oh Nete, pick your battles is what I’m saying. It’s easy to show that the Reagan administration hated the poor.
The question is why did the Bill Clinton administration actually get more shit done AGAINST the poor than Reagan even could? And the answer of course is that liberals snooze so long as they have an imaginary friend in the White House. (Well, also that liberals of a certain demographic actually don’t like the poor either — boy do we get to see that this year!!!)
“Or people who know that the Republicans are the all-time greatest gift to our real sell-out bastard overlords the Democrats who are far worse because they pretend to be our friends”
Or people who know that Stalin and the Soviets are the all-time greatest gift to our real sell-out bastard overlord Hitler and the Nazis who are far worse because they pretend to be our friends
Nope, not even remotely a valid comparison, Deadheded. Americans never had to choose between Hitler and Stalin, ever.
What is to be observed here, I think, is that the GOP will say anything to keep up their facade. For those who believe “the means justifies the ends”, deceit just a tool.
FUNNY but not really funny… .. and Reagan got re-elected… and supposedly was the most popular and loved President of recent times!!
Sadly, a large segment of the citizenry prefers to live in the “make believe” world!
ps “making things up” and “telling lies” are two sides of the same coin!
the ride to hell comes with lots of distracting perks
Yes, like all prominent politicians, Ronald Reagan lied in service to his own ends. By 1984, it began to become clear that the “great communicator” was having cognitive issues -sure, he could read a speech without problem but his ability to ad-lib showed signs of decay during that Election season. Reagasn’s emerging problem was not lost on those whose deep state agenda included the presidential whitewashing of JFK’s assassination (ala Gerald Ford), a successful effort to stymie the family jewel’s revelations by Frank Church, the delayed release of Iranian hostages, Iran Contra, and the unsuccessful attempt to Bush-whack Reagan after a the CIA head, George HW bush, had been elected as vice president om Regan’s ticket.
“Slipped the bonds of reality”? I think not.
Reagan was used to create an alternate reality for the purpose of masking the longstanding hidden agenda of the deep state. In this regard he was no different from Clinton or Obama. But hey, if reading the amusing anecdotes of Paul Slansky helps the blue pill slide down your throat just a bit easier.., then go for it.
Speaking of convenient fiction:
I see that Mr Mackey is hiding from reader feedback in a post Brexit world. Although many of us repeatedly took him to task for spewing pure propaganda at the expense of the truth, I never believed that I would see the day when he would turn tail like a beaten mutt and physically insulate himself from deserved reader criticism. Is it possible that this Intercept feature writer is just meeting the minimum conditions of hi contract by resorting to a cut and paste approach to journalism? Inquiring minds want to know!
You make some good points…perhaps we, the American people “can’t handle the truth”?
now that you mention it, the connection between hollywood and politics and wallstreet is seemingly more seemless given the appetite for popularity and entertainment for successful advertisability
i feel like i/we am/are being phished.
Maybe Mackey is angling for a position in the Clinton Admin or for buddy-buddy access, similar to what Richard Wolffe seems to be doing with his Guardian “journalism”.
I think he’s a token establishmenter to help give The Intercept some credibility with the establishment after The Intercept’s reporting on numerous stories that should shatter, smash and discredit the establishment, from the Islamist rebels in Syria (and Ukraine(!)) to the spying on US citizens.
looking for racism, blood and lies? How about the long bloody hog wallow of the Democratic party from Andy Jackson to Barak Obama?
Stop believing in fantasies. A few leaders have stood up for reform, but precious few. Partisan shit slinging is a bore and not journalism. There is no major heroic party fighting for the little guy, Jon.
andrew did despise the banksters
despiction of banksterism is a huge deal, imo
http://www.zerohedge.com/article/andrew-jackson-repealing-central-bank
He also led a massive theft of Cherokee Land and initiated the trail of tears which is still not over.
Meese: Ebenezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol” suffered from “bad press in his time. If you really look at the facts, he didn’t exploit Bob Cratchit. … Bob, in fact, had good cause to be happy with his situation. … Let’s be fair to Scrooge.”
Yah, he gave that skinny bastard a JOB, didn’t he? He couldn’t be expected to provide luxuries like heat in the workplace or holidays off or a living wage . He was a god-fearing Capitalist! Too bad he went crazy, and started seeing ghosts and giving turkey dinners away. He was a real Republican until then.
lol – or he was a capitalist fearing god
The sycophants and enablers to a demented bimbo, are digging him up just in time for Halloween?
That’s seasonal and all, but it’s too little, too late, to help the pumpkin-tinted thug.
funny. a real 24/7 halloween reality showguy that needed a mask 364 days a year? ok.
What do you get when you cross an omnishambles with a clusterfuck?

tip of the eyes burger
Rick Perlstein’s book “The Invisible Bridge”, has story after story of the fantasies Reagan used to his advantage on his political rise from obscurity and to his election as POTUS on 1980.
The extreme inequality resulting from “inverted totalitarianism” is not new, or new ideas, the momentum and success since Reagan notwithstanding, it has been with us since Heritage Foundation, John Birch Society, and the robber barons and arguably the founding fathers: https://youtu.be/snzhIJi35FY?

jill stein represents by conscience (even tho i defend the D)
my vote is for jill even if i believe she will not be elected
because my conscience is a win, it is not for sale
dont look for a winner, be a winner
Won’t I be glad once the election is over and (hopefully) the Intercept can return to reporting on matters of consequence.
You know how desperate they are when the worst thing they can say about Ed Meese is that he had an alternative interpretation of a Charles Dickens story.
;^) !!!
maybe it was the best thing they could say about meese?
It started probably earlier. If you look at “Kissinger’s Long Shadow” by Greg Grandin, you see the author making a case that in Kissinger’s view, facts were irrelevant and that he had come to that conclusion pretty early in his life
Believing what Reagan said has always been sort of like flunking an intelligence test.
lol
spot on
ronny didnt have to play the hellary-2-face 2 speech game, he could say 1 thing once and mean 2 things
More democ-rat hacking from Schwarz.
No one has misrepresented their history like Reagan did more than
Hillary Clinton has and does, but propagandists like
Schwarz insist on pretending that Trump is today’s Reagan.
Trump AND Clinton are both proof that the faking U$A has
de-volved into Reaganistic delusions of grandeur with their
shared “exceptional” removal from reality and from responsible
behavior.
Schwarz needs to end each of these propaganda messages with
a clip of Clinton saying, “I approve of this message.”
lol. yes. nothing like reagan
DT is not a republican, he is Libertarian, imo
i do find the attempts of hijacking interesting
also more dots for the bigger picture
Pointillism works.
How dare you besmirch Ms. Clinton like that. She dodged sniper fire in Bosnia for your freedoms.
““Is it gonna go to where the astronauts planted the flag?”

Great lies of our time.
There are weapons of mass destruction.
I did not have sex with that woman!
19 Arab Hijackers did 9/11 all by themselves.
Osama Bin Laden was shot by the SEALS and body dumped in the ocean per Islamic ritual.
Bengahzi was about a movie.
You can keep your doctor.
I don’t recall.
i dunno if this qualifies but..
Chaffetz then asked, “Did Hillary Clinton do anything wrong?”
“What do you mean by ‘wrong’?” Comey asked in response.
Chaffetz remarked, “I think it’s self-evident.”
An old man saying a lot of stupid things — oh the horror! Of course Shwarz’s dear leader Obama only does stupid things. Like funneling trillions of dollars to Wall Street, refusing to prosecute financial crimes, training Nazi battalions in the Ukraine for the purpose of regime change, supporting misogynist, racist anti-gay Jihadists for the purpose of regime change, allowing unlimited fracking waste into our oceans, replacing the small pipelines he canceled with armies of bomb trains owned by Warren Buffet, fighting the UN on a ban of nuclear weapons, and hiring GE outsourcer Jeff Imalt as his jobs czar … the list goes on.
But of course Shwartz sticks his head in the sand when confronted with these inconvenient truths — he would rather talk about the stupid things an old president said over 30 years ago.
“I’ve now been in 57 states-I think one left to go.
I don’t know what the term is in Austrian” for “wheeling and dealing.
America built the Intercontinental Railroad
In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died—an entire town destroyed”

My father served in World War II, and when he came home, he got the services that he needed.
(At the end of WWII, Obama’s father was 10 years old)
Well let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s.”
– Dear Leader Obama
Understand that quotes you get from Briebart have no basis in reality.
Well that was something. I think you’re right wing conspiracies got mixed up with your left wing conspiracies lol
I’d check that long list for some being dead.
Dead and buried dead?
Brain dead?
As dead inside as a psychopath?
The count might vary a bit depending on which sort of dead you’re talking about.
none of that matters to republicans. they are republicans because they loathe democrats on principle. they succeed because democrats are loathsome
Michael Moore Explains Why Trump Will Win
The REST of Michael Moore’s sentence:
https://youtu.be/Rw8DUKu47aI?t=1482
After making my comment, I came back and found your
link. Thank you for clarifying the fact that Michael Moore is a
hypocrite and a lying manipulator.
Don’t try to legitimize your petulant accusations by pretending I agree with you.
It is absolutely infantile to get mad at Moore, in reaction to being misled by the oafish lies and transparent manipulation of right wing propagandists.
Furthermore, it is impossible to have the slightest clue whether or not someone is a hypocrite, if you don’t know what they said.
You called Moore a “hypocrite” TWICE, without knowing what he said EITHER TIME.
If you gave a crap about the truth, you would be in the habit of listening to what people say BEFORE you form an opinion on what they said.
# 1. – I have listened to him and his hypocrite
“hold your nose and force yourself to vote for Hillary ”
as if it is funny and as if it is the only choice.
# 2. – You are ASSUMING that I am “mad” at Moore. That is
a waste of time.
# 3. – You are ASSUMING that I assume that you agree with me.
# 4. – Thanks again for showing Moore is a fraud and a hypocrite.
1) You did not watch that one hour and nine minute presentation in the space of the 15 minutes between your comments. (Ask someone to help you understand how I know that.) Now you’re proving for the THIRD time, that you don’t need to know what you’re talking about to form an extremely militant ‘opinion’ about it.
2) Anger was your only potential excuse for such a buffoonish failure of intellect.
3) Apparently you’re assuming that I assume you assume I agree with you. What I SAID, is that you were “pretending I agree with you.” You know, the way you still are. (Don’t assume I imagine you’re AT ALL honest.)
4) Look up the word ‘hypocrite’. You’ll be surprised to learn that it does not mean, “Someone you’re mad at.”
That video of Moore is most interesting because it shows
how off the mark Michael Moore can be (again). He portrays the
election of Trump as being the biggest “fuck you” to the
corporate establishment politicos, but that is totally wrong.
The biggest “fuck you” would be the election of Jill Stein and
other Greens. Trump is part of the same predatory game as
Clinton and both of them are abusers who only use other people
to make themselves more predatory and they both have expressed
their devotion to military viciousness and their arrogant indifference
toward those with less power.
I do not have a way of trusting whatever Michael Moore is up to,
even as he seems to have some insight into the anger of the
voters who support Trump because he has repeatedly shown
how he is politically disingenuous and hypocritical.
If that’s how you feel NOW, imagine how you would feel if you actually WATCHED THE VIDEO.
There are just too many clever and smart Pakis around Hillary Clinton. Khizr Muhammad Hussein Khan, Huma Abedin Weiner, that creepy Orlando killer’s pop peering over her shoulder ….
I guess it’s never a bad idea to be careful of smart Pakis.
General Hercules what a dope!
Remember George W. Bush was not elected – he was appointed….By the SCOTUS Judges approved by the republican party – H.W.Bush
And that has what to do with what?
a most serious case of “making things UP” is my take.
The Chicago tribune is calling for Clinton to step aside. Ronald Reagan just sat up in his casket and asked ‘ What?’
A bit premature…..nothing has come out. They said the E-Mails were not “TO” or “FROM” Hillary. How do E-Mails on Anthony Weiner computer make her guilty of anything
Exactly!
With admittedly no evidence of any kind, Comey resurrects the “email on a private server” without any reference to the 3.5 million emails scrubbed by the Cheney administration, on government as well as private servers.
Not to say that everyone does it, but to highlight one without the other obscures the rape of the American people.
Uh-huh, and when your local police and prosecutors conduct an investigation into fraud at a local insurance company, they probably don’t refer to the fraudulent behavior of folks at the local bank, ten years ago.
Work on your logic.
Indeed. Clinton’s actions are likely criminal. That said, so were the actions of Karl Rove and the others who deleted emails. (Unlike Clinton, there was not only a lack of interest in the government but also in the media in looking into those emails- even when some were found (Thank you, Zach Exley and Greg Palast).)
To get more back to the topic, had Tip O’Neal not decided to go easy on Reagan after the revelations from Lawrence Walsh (A Republican, BTW), and not seek impeachment, it sent a message that high crimes do not matter, a message echoed by Nancy Pelosi in 2006. Should Trump win, I hope he will not just go after Clinton and Obama’s high crimes, but Bush as well. (Perhaps that is one reason why they fear him…)
on board!
If the Band memo (re: fundraising for Bill Clinton Inc) doesn’t convince you of Hillary ought not lead our nation– then just own your vote for a criminal–if one enjoys voting for that amount of shade — at least own what it implies about you
yep. if she gets in the after taste is going to be so bad the nation might have floods, of vomit
Who are “they?” The FBI? They said that? When? So far no one knows yet what’s been uncovered or will be.
Then you ask “How do E-Mails on Anthony Weiner computer make her guilty of anything?”
Well, Sherlock, if there are any classified emails on his computer, especially if there are any that weren’t discovered or turned over before…guess what?
(Hint: he’s not authorized to read classified material. Also, Hillary claimed she destroyed only “personal” emails.)
Are really that dense or is it a pose?
Guilt is not the operative factor but unfitness to assume the presidency is. There was little reason for Comey to report this continuing investigation unless something very pertinent was already discovered in these emails.
I wonder if the Clintonites are debating trying to paint Comey as Putin’s mole somehow to try to salvage this trainwreck.
lmao. Comey as Putin’s mole? good one! why not? And where is DWS when you need another fixer?
Actually they have to get a separate warrant and the director says in the letter to Congress that he has not yet seen the contents of the emails because of lack of said warrant. He felt obliged to tell them because of his previous testifying in which he talked at length about the email investigation. I get it, hillarys sketchy but let’s not accuse her of things she hasn’t done, the truth about her is quite sketchy without adding bs to it.
True they only made it with the DemocraticParty support and creative artistry, mastering and imposing the Art of the DOUBLECROSS beyond Reps puny expectatios.
Clintonemail.com to talk to criminals!
Reality has no place in US politics. Politics is aspirational, and the anecdotes told by politicians are parables, intended to deliver a message, not the literal truth. You might as well criticize Mrs. Clinton’s claim of landing under sniper fire in Bosnia. It never happened but it conveys the larger truth of Mrs. Clinton’s resolve and bravery as frequently demonstrated by her cool while under rhetorical fire.
This is not a Republican or a Democratic trait – rather it is a universal trait of all leaders. Jesus Christ probably did not perform even half the miracles he is credited with – but those stories delivered a moral lesson which has lasted several thousand years. The carpenters in Galilee who told the literal truth have long since been forgotten.
Right you are as usual. Perhaps the best evidence of the preference of US voters for liars is the election of Reagan over Carter, a man too predisposed to truth telling. Politics is after all like religion, governed by emotion and not generally commensurable with factual-based analysis.
Were it otherwise the democrat and republican parties would vanish instantly.
there you go. And people thought Hypocrisy wasn’t a religion. Imagine, why choose between heaven and hell when you can have both.
Jesus Christ can not be compared to the politicians. He was a prophet of God.
People and politicians sometimes speak in hyperbolic terms and that’s fine. When asked they can explain that it’s meant to be hyperbolic.
However politicians lie all the time and that’s not okay. Unless you like being lied to all the time. In that case you took the blue pill and you are apparently okay with it unlike most people who fall for the false choice of lesser of two evils. You know there are other choices other than R &D?
Vote for the people who stand on the principle of goodness and who will at least tell you that they will do no harm.
I will vote for Jill Stein. You should check her out. Might change your mind about the lies told by politicians and about your available choices.
To me it seems like the Mara Salvatrucha gang is the living embodiment of Ronald Reagan, the enduring hallmark of his legacy:
a) Reagan supported death squads in El Salvador (and fought against the good guys in Nicaragua), turning the country into a bitter, violent place.
b) Reagan started a “War on Drugs” that fueled the rise of the drug gangs of the 1980s by making drugs far more profitable for those able to sell them with the right protection.
c) Reagan and Bush were behind the CIA-cocaine connection that Gary Webb reported. (Webb was subsequently ‘disgraced’, in the sense that although no one disputed his facts, the newspapers became afraid to follow them to their conclusions – no matter what) This connection brought Central American cocaine straight into Los Angeles.
d) Reagan signed the immigration amnesty of 1986 that allowed large numbers of Salvadorans to remain in the country.
e) Reagan oversaw the deportations of Salvadoran drug criminals in the U.S. that allowed them to spread the gang to El Salvador.
f) Reagan continued to back the corrupt governments that allowed the gangs to flourish.
Wherever people turn up in trash bags with their tortured bodies cut into little pieces, Reagan’s spectre stands watch over them, admiring its handiwork. He is the father of the gang and they his children.
absolutely. great rundown!
Hillary has 2 voices, ronny had 2 faces, front side and back side.
Recently i have been surmising that the world is run by a very large criminal enterprise who need front persons as puppets. The amount of drugs coming into the US on a daily basis must be huge, a logistical nightmare, yet is persists and succeeds. How can that be without professional assistance? I think Donald knows something i/we dont.
Hillaryous;Obomba is a Reaganite lover.
Is the best you got?
No HRC revelations?sheesh.
“I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path, because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown, but there wasn’t much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people—he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing.”
– Dear Leader, Obama
And, lest we forget, the Democratic convention had dozens and dozens of instances of contrasting Reagan and Trump- with Reagan depicted postively!
