Donald Trump shocked everyone but his own supporters Tuesday as his racist, xenophobic, authoritarian, climate-science-denying, misogynistic, “grab-them-by-the-pussy” candidacy somehow carried him to victory.
Larger than expected turnout among rural and working-class white voters led Trump to outperform polling expectations in almost every battleground state, winning Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which, according to the Associated Press, put him over the required 270 electoral votes early Wednesday morning.
The one-time leader of the racist “birther” movement entered the race calling Mexicans “rapists” and repeatedly refusing to condemn white supremacists, and issued policy proposals that seemed unbound by the limits of executive power or basic human decency.
Trump promised to “bomb the shit” out of Middle Eastern countries, kill terrorist’s innocent families, do “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,” and suggested that dipping bullets in pigs’ blood may be sound counterterrorism policy.
Trump had a long history of misogyny and belittling women, but after a decade-old tape surfaced of Trump saying he could “grab [women] by the pussy,” and “if you’re a star, they let you do it,” many were horrified, and numerous women came forward with stories of being victimized by Trump. Forecasts predicted Clinton would win in a near landslide.
Trump’s election is a particular nightmare-come-alive for American Muslims, his campaign already having incited hundreds of anti-Muslim hate crimes and started a new wave of anti-Muslim bullying in schools. Trump’s promises to spy on mosques and ban Muslims from entering the country have electrified his base, and served as consistent applause lines throughout his campaign. Trump’s circle of advisors, surrogates, and political allies include people who brag about spying on mosques and call for “sharia tests” of all American Muslims, under penalty of deportation. General Michael Flynn, a top national security adviser to Donald Trump and possible Defense Secretary, has tweeted that “fear of muslims is rational.”
Wide open questions remain as to how Trump would staff his administration, or govern. Trump has flip flopped on hundreds of policy positions, and despite his promise to break the control of Washington by political insiders, his transition team is full of corporate lobbyists and Republican power brokers.
Two places he’s been consistent: His convictions to build a wall on the southern border, and to stand by police when they kill unarmed black men.
Political scientists, pollsters and pundits will likely debate for many years how media elites could have been so wrong in predicting an overwhelming Clinton victory. But in the short term, many communities, from undocumented immigrants to Muslims, suddenly face grave concerns for their rights and security.

This column again shows how little you really do understand. You are ignorant of the facts, and the intentions and hearts of the Trump voters. And, sadly, you don’t know or don’t care that you’ve been played by George Soros for no other reason than personal financial profit. A man who has been declared the enemy of the state by England, Russia, Hungary, France. Open your eyes.
Sorry snowflake, Hillary Rodham Clinton started the “birther” movement while she was losing in 2008 to Barrack Hussein Obama.

Clinton campaign email: Comey letters threw the election to Trump
Political scientists, pollsters and pundits will likely debate for many years how media elites could have been so wrong in predicting an overwhelming Clinton victory.
This is actually SO simple…
The corporate media was so wrapped up in its own pro-Clinton hubris that it simply did not know what real people thought.
Live with it. Sorry but the public is no longer going to read the BS from the coastal hives. The flyovers rise again.

How about the shock caused by Hillary when she sent her pedophile campaign manager to the DNC HQ to dismiss her Kamikaze Army?
What does this Wikileaks email mean?

Yes, yes when we could have had a pedophile for president. Ouch. Where does one come by the kind of ignorance of this “writer”? We could have had a thief for president as well. This is a high school level paper by a poor sod who has rather bad, probably alcoholic parents.
“Trump promised to “bomb the shit” out of Middle Eastern countries, kill terrorist’s innocent families, do “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding,” and suggested that dipping bullets in pigs’ blood may be sound counterterrorism policy.”
And which part of that has not been done in the past 13 years?
The riots?(emotional breakdowns)are Trumps problem:Anderson Cooper.
No you little penis, its Deblasio’s and Emanuels, along with Obombas,as Trump is a private citizen till January.
Gonna crack heads for Donald?haha.
Tough shit! Get used to it; the rest of us have been suffering under the corporate elites fronted by sock puppets, Clinton, Bush II and Obomber. It’s the economy, stupid! Ever do an honest days work? Ever produce any food, clothing or shelter, little man, I doubt it.
You realize the election is over, right?
I’ll still take him over Clinton. Full disclosure: I didn’t vote for Trump.
Well, perhaps, now that the pretentious people can no longer rest on whatever figurehead they think works for them, honor will somehow find its way back into the populace and people will do what’s right in each case in all ways – no matter what the sacrifice – since their false identity is shattered, maybe their real one will have a revival :b
I love these Parisian tantrums on the Intercept. It appears the real children are the Hillary fans who can’t accept that their candidate is both dishonest and corrupt, enriching her family empire while secretary of state.
This article shows the hypocrisy of the neoliberal pro-imperialism Intercept. This author is ranting about ‘racist, xenophobic’ — meanwhile our current president is supporting and arming Nazi racists in the Ukraine and ethnic cleansing jihadists in Syria who will kill gays on sight and who oppress women in unimaginable ways.
The hate-filled author, unable to psychologically exist in a democracy, has the audacity to call Trump ‘misogynistic’ yet at the same time supporting the Clinton Dynasty — whose patriarch Bill Clinton is accused of rape and many incidents of unwanted attacks on women. Hillary Clinton is also guilty here — managing the war-room for bimbo eruptions when her husband was president and sending out investigators to harass Bill’s accusers.
Baby Alex is such a mouthpiece for US imperialism as he laments: ‘Trump promised to “bomb the shit” out of Middle Eastern countries’. Meanwhile, we have a president in the white house that has expanded the drone wars and has bombed the ‘shit’ out of Iraq, Libya, Syria, and has unleashed Jihadist armies for the purpose of regime change and pipelines.
Give baby Alex his rattle. He is having a tantrum.
Unfortunately, Baby Alex and his ilk have limited capacity to self-reflect and step outside their ideologically homogeneous bubbles.
They are the philosopher kings victimized by the demographics of the unwashed, uneducated masses. Their absolute belief in being right borders on dogma. If one of their peers labels Trump racist, then it must be so (e.g., “See! Google whether Trump is racist and see for yourself!”). If someone points out HRC’s corruption, then it must be the messenger that gets shot.
There’s little or no reasoning with the Baby Alex’s of the world. Save yourself the time.
Pete: Except it’s not their belief. No, they view it as their right. If they are wrong, then we are “racist, xenophobic, authoritarian, climate-science-denying, misogynistic, “grab-them-by-the-pussy” sheep without any ability to form our own thoughts.
???? ???? ????
Oh, the forum doesn’t support glyphs I see. Those question marks were clapping hands.
Jamie, you should write for the Intercept instead of this author. Your writing is razor sharp and excellently illustrates the rampant hypocrisy we are surrounded by at this time.
Not only that, but you forgot to mention the “secret” african wars, the military and political coups in latin america and elsewhere… etc. Also, Bill Clinton not only was accused, but had to settle out of court. And Bill and Hillary received millions from corrupt governments and big companies. And the Stratfor emails show some suspicions of people being killed by the Clintons…
Trump also promised to stop wasting billions of dollars in random wars.
It’s as if Alex Emmons doesn’t even read The Intercept, but only watches CNN…
“From New York in the North to Tampa in the South, a ginormous clusterfuck has descended across the continent.”
TRUTH and its forerunner KNOWLEDGE shall rise again. Journalism as we have come to know has taken a dagger to the heart, thank god. ALL should take heed as everything is back on the table. Americans can once again speak without brutal oppression and recrimination. The false gospel can be rewritten beginning with 9/11. The losers will start stacking up, beginning with the first to exit stage left; good riddance to Bryan Cranston!
Americans are not the only winners. The world has a better chance of elevating itself; Brexit, Trump, and now let’s hope and encourage Germany, France, and Sweden, etc. Let’s bring Snowden home with Assange under his wing.
Oh, Trump is quite well-known for his endorsement of domestic spying, and his belief that Snowden is a traitor who should be executed. What fantasy world are you living in?
What does the Breaking Bad actor have to do with anything? I’m assuming you meant someone else or someone of the same name.
It was a narrow victory, and I can assure you, Mr. Trump, that the Left is not going anywhere. 4 years. All we have to do is put up a COMPETENT opponent, and you’re a one-term president.
In the meantime, you have a congress that, Republican or not, isn’t going to yield to your every petty whim. And the constituency that elected you? You made some bold promises to them. When it becomes obvious you can’t deliver, they will be your downfall.
Leftists are endangered species,as they are all transparent nazi hypocrites, who care not one iota about reasoned conversation, just stupid illogical dogma, about idiotic sexual orientation and gender concerns, ignoring killing ones progeny for convenience kills the soul, and that their hero HRC,was an abysmal f*ckup wo one credible accomplishment in 30 years,a murderous pos degenerate, with a trail of dead and failure decades long.
She was so stupid, she committed electoral suicide by calling a quarter of the nation deplorable, and laughably blamed the russkies for her own corruption. What a maroon.
Crisis averted!Phew.
Nazi’s couldn’t be any further politically from liberals–they are extreme conservatives-just like the people who support their “666” leader. goes to show you just how stupid and gullible his “worshipers” are.
Just watching her on the TV doing the concessions. I suppose she was too drunk last night to do it then.
One thing I don’t understand is why she’l laughing like an idiot because all I can see in her future is an early death, possibly by suicide through substance abuse or indictment followed by prison.
Question: is she charging for the concession speech?
lol, and she’s imagine herself as ‘the champion of weemin’? I suppose being demented comes with dementia.
Speaking of mental illness, it’s not healthy to talk to yourself.
He is talking turkey. She is a drunk, and a stumblebum one at that.
A certifiable psychopathic power mad degenerate, who was her own worst enemy.
Trump singlehandedly defeated the zionist borg that till now has dictated our agenda.
Hopefully they will stop spewing their total BS,but listening to the ZNN tonight,it’s business as usual lying, insulting and calumny about Trump, and his family.
If anyone needs a riot, its the media, fifth column traitors.
Boycott the bastards.(I guess we are already, they are on a death watch, zionism killed the newspaper. Please support our journalism, sheesh.)
” I suppose being demented comes with dementia.”
It also comes from massive alcohol intake; she looks like a functional drunk.
I thought Hillary was supposed to the nightmare president? That’s the one you guys were banging on about all year. Oh well, looking for to Julian Assange’s stint as press secretary.
Ahhhh…. the gnashing of teeth.
Quick comment: we just avoided a nuke exchange or worse. I understand that some wouldn’t mind glowing in the dark but I’m not one of those.
So let’s all agree to blame Putin for it all.
As one of the original BernieBros™, I’d like to remind folks that we could be celebrating a Bernie Sanders victory and looking at the prospect of a new New Deal. Oh well.
Lying, cheating, stealing and rigging elections have a way of catching up people, eventually.
I don’t know Bernie would have won, but I know you’d have given it a great try. We’d have spent the campaign season talking about economic inequality and how long people live on the Pine Ridge reservation and how much solar power would cost to implement nationwide and ocean acidification, instead of what Trump said about some woman’s pussy.
Right on. Hate the GOP, but respect that the RNC didn’t play favorites, which is just another way of saying they did the right thing and let the voters exert their power. The DNC in fact, by taking steps tomfavir Clinton, stole power from the people. Time to clean house. We need peope with integruty and principles in charge. I mean, Climton got inside tips of debate questions, and did she domwhat was right – nitmcheat – or did she cheat? She cheated, just like the people she put in charge of her affairs (and ours, to some extent).
Keep fighting, Bernie Bros and Sanders Sisters. There’s a demoralized party waiting for new leaders. Go to party meetings and take over. It worked for the Religious Right. Cleanse the Augean Stables.
Oh, and once you get a new chair, and if the FBI goes after Clinton, turn evidence, and publicly apologize for rigging 2016.
Correct. If the Democrats had wanted a liberal, they should have nominated Sanders, who would have carried the middle class that Trump won. Instead, the Democrats chose a warmonger as their nominee and lost. Maybe next time they will go left instead of right.
I totally agree.
Yep. Today “liberals” are blaming Stein and Johnson, the Electoral College, Comey, misogyny, and white people. Sorry but the vast majority of blame (and with it self-reflection) should go to the DNC, and those who voted for Clinton instead of Sanders in the primary. They reacted to warnings by insulting the warners. They set up strawmans of BernieBros and racism and sexism. They refused to acknowledge what a fucking awful candidate Clinton was. Refused to see that Democrats are an increasingly small representation of actual progressives/leftists, and underestimated the millions of such which a) couldn’t vote in the Primary due to it being closed, and b) would never vote for Clinton.
This election is an indictment on the Democrat Establishment’s myopia and being completely out of touch with the electorate. And morons who voted for Clinton. And corruption/election-rigging. But I don’t expect much to change. Morons still played the blame-Nader game. They didn’t realize or care that Gore’s weakness was a vastly larger reason for that loss. They won’t realize or care that Clinton’s weakness is a vastly larger reason for this loss than “BernieBros” or Stein or Johnson etc. Dumb craven cowardly assholes full of unearned hubris.
“to stand by police when they kill unarmed black men”
Do you have a reference please ?
The American people were given a choice. Death by lethal injection. Or death by firing squad. They chose firing squad.
Which is the right choice.
Botched executions by injection sound much worse and much more common than botched executions by firing squad, and if either works, you end up in the same place.
This piece could have been more balanced.
You think so?
Look up ugly American in the dictionary and there is a photo of sociopath Donald Trump. On the bright side, he’ll put this banana republic country of ours out of its misery faster than Clinton
The greatest danger, to life and limb, is a U.S. Supreme Court “subordinate” to the two political branches in providing Judicial Review, instead if a “co-equal” branch checking the political branches.
Since the so-called “War on Drugs” in the late 1960’s, the U.S. Supreme Court destroyed the constitutional “rule of law” by desecrating the 4th Amendment (without mandating a constitutional amendment). After 9/11, the high court desecrated the remainder of our Bill of Rights (without constitutional amendments). Conservatives seem to be outraged by desecrating the American flag but not what the flag actually represents.
A GOP controlled House, Senate and White House will weaken an already subordinate U.S. Supreme Court which ironically will harm 2nd Amendment gun rights as well. As Ben Franklin warned once you start trading liberties for temporary safety you get neither.
“Political scientists, pollsters and pundits will likely debate for many years how media elites could have been so wrong in predicting an overwhelming Clinton victory.”
Let me enlighten them, and you. They started believing their own propaganda, that’s how. US GDP growth is a joke, job creation is a joke, the ACA is a joke, Wall Street bankers have robbed America and now back HRC, the Obama/Clinton foreign policy is a disaster, and everyone except the people voting for HRC realize it. That’s how they got it so wrong.
Brilliantly stated.
Yes, Trump played to the angry White man part of the American population, and they, to some extent, came out for him in greater numbers than predicted, but he also became, by default, the candidate of the just plain fed up with the system part of the population, too. And while most of that group have given up on voting in frustration (not believing that the system can be fixed from within the system) enough of them did to skew the expected results in the non undereducated White male vote out of the models everyone within the system used.
Now, while all signs are that the system will corral Trump (the initial money reaction has played out, and the markets are betting on things basically staying the same, with the exception of allowing Trump to beat up on Mexico, and given who is rumoured to be the placeholders and decision makers in the Trump administration, plus the very real limitations on the power of the Presidency and the continuation of the status quo in the Congress and House) despite what that would likely mean for Trump (him having to either not run for reelection, or run knowing that if he’s up against another ‘change’ candidate, what won him this election likely will lose him that one) that doesn’t deal with the very real issue, widespread discontent with the system amongst the American population of all political, ethnic, and the majority economic groups.
This is why it happened… what happened….( if some already did not know and should have known ).. you can not call people names and “discard” them… no matter what their views…
“The “Deplorables” Got the Last Laugh”
https://newrepublic.com/article/138615/deplorables-got-last-laugh
Its amazing but Politico has a column suggesting that Michelle Obama could run in 2020. How narrow the world of this columnist is. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/obama-hurt-by-trump-win-2016-election-231103
Michelle would be a better choice than Clinton, simply for the fact that she is younger and has fewer scandals.
How about Mamie Eisenhower?Lady Bird?Jackie?Laura Bush?
Seriously?Wtf would vote for her as a POTUS candidate?
Did anyone else notice that the media seemed to not want to declare Trump president? It seemed that CNN didn’t want to call either Michigan or Pennsylvania in his favor even though over 90% of the vote was in.
It wasn’t until Trump actually walked out on stage to give his acceptance speech, that Wolf Blitzer quickly and frantically declared him the president-elect.
Blitzer didn’t even state which state threw him over. CNN simply added 20 electoral votes to him thereby giving him Pennsylvania.
I got the feeling that Clinton and the media wanted to deny him an election night victory.
The Elites were defiant to the end. It seemed that Clinton was shamed into calling him and conceding after Podesta said they were going home for the night and Trumps surrogates became outraged at her behavior.
I think Podesta thought, for a brief and tawdry moment, that they could get away with taking a breather until morning to see how the popular vote turned out. There was probably a hurried and desperately tear-soaked huddle where Neera Tanden – or some other vapid representative of their fantasy-fueled world – suggested they could, with the popular vote, do exactly what they’d accused Trump of, deny concession and spark an uprising. But someone there with a far better grasp of the sordid reality they brought upon themselves, managed to prevail.
Their experiment in trying to outflank the GOP is done. The only thing left is for them to reflect on the damage they have done with their obstinacy and shirt-sightedness. If they can’t do that, and I don’t think they can, then they are done as a political party.
Finally, a modicum of decent analysis:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/09/donald-trump-white-house-hillary-clinton-liberals
Oh boo hoo! The author gives no hint that he has even a clue of how horrible Hideous Hillary is. I’m no Trump fan, but thank GOD that corrupt, war-mongering witch is out.
I blame the fucking establishment Democrats for forcing on us their goddamned status quo candidate. They thought they could pull the wool over our eyes one more time but they were wrong. Sanders consistently polled over Trump during the primaries, Clinton not so much. Now we’re all going to have to pay for it, especially the above mentioned minorities. Such a clusterfuck.
Ali Abunimah’s thoughts: What will President Trump mean for Palestine?
That’s the good news. Now the bad:
The Democratic Party, if it is to survive, must accept the stake driven though its neoliberal, center-right, wildly pro-Israel heart. If they don’t let in all we horrid “BernieBros” with our BDS and other passions, if we aren’t given real power, that party will die.
Millennials will have more young voters coming along to join them, and they are not averse to social democracy, are dovish, and increasingly pro-Palestinian. Trump could be a 1-termer — if the Democratic Party accepts the slaughter last night of those who killed it.
But even if it’s “just” four years, many will suffer, and most of them will be our fellow citizens of color.
Yup. That sounds about right.
This is his most recent statement.
Ding dong, the witch is dead.
What will the warlock do?
The election is OVER. Mr Trump is president elect whether one likes it not. Can everyone STOP calling names? The title of this post “NIGHTMARE” is not helping at all. What name Mrs Clinton would have been called, if she had won, I would like to know…. Queen Clinton reigns!!!
It is time to move on. At least write about ways to bring people together, allay their fears, how they can work together. This is NOT about him and her…… it is about Americans.
Well, at least Mr. Mackey’s ‘The Trumpdown’ series is (probably) over.
*insightful comment, btw.
Oh, no, bah. I wouldn’t go that far. I think Mr. Mackey’s sinecure here was just assured. The only upside is that now he will have far more company.
If you’re waiting for an end to name-calling, you have a long four years ahead of you …
I HOPE …
Well said Michael Wilke…
oh.. to be a fly on Hillarys face today… :-)
Our Irish media, across the board, supported Clinton despite all the evidence of wrongdoing. But, like many americans, a lot of us who were willing to look deeper & see the corruption & arrogance.
My heartfelt congrats to America today. I personally believe the world is a safer place 24hrs on….
Give it up. Your entire bullshit epistemology lost and now has to reckon with exactly how impotent and powerless it actually is. If Trump getting elected is your “nightmare”, I guess you haven’t been paying much attention to the past 16 years or so. Keep it classy, Intercept, this kind of Jezebel-level piece really makes you look good. /s
All CNN is concerned about right now is whether or not Trump will appoint a special prosecutor for Clinton corruption. Is this issue so important to CNN?
Divide and conquer.Putting Trump in a vindictive light.
Right now they are playing up poor pathetic brainwashed Hell Bitch supporters protests in NY and Chicago,
Yuppie riots.heh.
I bet Mackey feels like a schmuck…
Or perhaps like a fugitive. ;^)
Nah…it’s not yet illegal to be a foolish blind partisan.
This election has exposed the gross corruption of journalism in the modern era; it has demonstrated that the vast majority of today’s journalists are really propagandists.
The media, along with the Pentagon, the CIA, the State Department, Wall Street, corporate conglomerates in the weapons industry, all piled on for Hillary Clinton – and yet it didn’t work. Why not? The media believes its job today is to create narratives, not to report accurately on issues. This is what advertisers and propaganda experts do; this is not informative investigative journalism.
This is a serious problem; for real journalists devote themselves to uncovering factual information, not to telling stories that please the media owners and advertisers and so guarantee their continued employment as “journalists”.
If journalists had done their job, investigative reporting, there would be no shock at all over Trump’s victory; the gross wealth inequality in the United States due to government policies that champion elite interests over the middle class interests was the major factor in populist anger against the political establishment. Journalists didn’t want to discuss this because they were tasked with promoting 1% establishment viewpoints; that’s who rewarded them for “positive coverage”; that’s how Robert Mackey got a headliner job at the Intercept, for example.
The Guardian, the New York Times, the Washington Post, all operate the same way. They wouldn’t report in depth on Hillary Clinton’s corrupt relationships with Saudi Arabia and arms dealers, even though most people had some inkling of it. The pay-to-play schemes with the Clinton Foundation, corporate kickbacks, bloated speaking fees for Bill Clinton – all ignored. Instead, we saw the media running endless attacks against Bernie Sanders for being “a socialist” – again, another narrative that Wall Street wanted.
Bernie Sanders, of course, would have beaten Donald Trump by a comfortable margin – but the DNC, the superdelegates, the DNC et al. worked overtime to rig the Democratic primary for Hillary Clinton – and yes, President Trump is the result of that.
And if the media wants someone to blame for this outcome, they just need to look in a mirror. Quit lying to the American public on behalf of oligarchs and plutocrats, and you might start to regain public trust. Until then, people will continue to view media narratives as dishonest propaganda.
Fascism elected Trump and another branch of
Fascism would have elected Hillary Clinton.
As for Bernie Sanders, he twisted what might have been
a stepping away from Fascism
into another endorsement of Fascism.
Somewhat. Yet, the unfavorable facts about both Clinton and Trump were reported. How about we just accept that the facts decided the outcome, as bitter a pill as it might be?
The real crime was entities like the New York Times blatantly favoring Clinton over Sanders. Reporting Clinton leads as including unpledged superdelegates, for instance, which gave an illusion ofmgreater support than she actually had. The journalism was not objective.
Sheesh boy, you’re showing your age..I hope you’ve learned your lesson
Trump got elected because voters are pissed off at the establishment status quo.,
Totally agree. If there’s a relevant point to this angry little screed, some new insight that hasn’t been pointed out before, I’ve yet to discern it. Unless the writer is suffering from a case of sudden onset Tourette Syndrome.
This is good news for Snowden! I can’t say when but a Pardon from POTUS Trump is coming.
One money grubbing crook or another money grubbing crook.
What’s to celebrate?
Welcome to America where wealth is the only virtue and decency the only sin.
In six months the same people kvetching about Clinton will be kvetching about those liberal senators who oppose T-Rimp’s demand for a few necessary powers to protect America from ISIS and to protect American borders from the enemy within.
Great,
Nasdarovje, y’all.
In six months the same people kvetching about Clinton will be kvetching about those liberal senators who oppose T-Rimp’s demand for a few necessary powers to protect America from ISIS and to protect American borders from the enemy within.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of those necessary powers were long ago passed in bi-partisan legislative bodies pumped to be VERY AFRAID of all sorts of threats that have been proven to be mostly imaginary here in continental North America.
However, if the ONLY silver lining that emerges from this abortive process we call a “presidential” election is that resistance to such policies increases – as opposed the craven consolidation we’ve seen from the post-W so-called Democratic party – then I will take that. Because to date there has been far too little kvetching about any of our legislators working in support of all of these massive power grabs.
“Paid for by
Cthulhu for AmericaMake America Great Again, a grassroots campaign of over 2 million cultistscommitted to electing Cthulhu (and smashing the ridiculous political system).”
Perhaps the swamp drain will begin?
Don’t you dare sully Cthulhu by comparing him to Trump- or Clinton. Besides, I think Cthulhu may like swamps.
Emmons–give it up you little sycophantic jerk. Hillary is far more dangerous than Trump, and she lost. Now go away, please.
Hillary was more dangerous, but not for everyone.
Trump is unlikely to take us to war in Syria and flirt with starting WWIII with Russia. He is, however, also a corporate hack and will be listening to the Money Men, just as she would have. And while here SCOUTS nominations would have been corporate lackeys with allegiances to the national security state, Trump may well appoint full-blown authoritarians.
But worst of all, his racism and anti-Muslim animus is now blessed for the hordes, and I tremble for me fellow citizens of color. For these, Trump IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN HILLARY CLINTON.
I was not one voting for Trump or advocating a “heighten the contradictions” strategy to push a revolution-like convulsion. But Trump won anyway, so we may as well take advantage of it; I think blacks can and should riot, more or less burn the muthafucka down as Trump’s beloved cops now go into hyper-rogue mode. As more hate crimes are emboldened, including on Muslims.
Until the DNC has purged the technocratic, neoliberal pukes who were humiliated last nite, there’s gonna be terrible pain, but it may be a relatively short-term price to pay for eventual death of the evil in the Democratic party and ascendancy of the Bernie cohort. But some of us are going to be paying that price far more painfully than others.
People have good AND bad in them. The media should have looked for the good in Trump.
Consider the following:
What is Trump view on Citizens United?
What about election rigging? Trump was concerned as a candidate, will he endorse changes as President? If so, what changes?
Will Trump reform the bankruptcy laws? Increase Student aid?
Rein in the Too Big too fail banks. Both Reagan and the Bushes prosecuted Banksters/Fraudsters whereas Obama chose to look the other way.
Will Trump end the war in Afghanistan? It’s the longest war in American history. If so, maybe he could re-purpose some of that money.
And so on and so forth.
Trump is a builder. Maybe that is a good thing.
Trump hasn’t built shit, other than his own celebrity.
We know Trump is not in favor of some big mergers, like the TW/AT&T merger. Antitrust could be back.
As for Citizen’s United, Trump has been more than willing to coordinate with outside groups, just like Clinton. He’s unlikely to reverse that. He’s accused minorities of voting illegally, and he’s not likely to remove the electoral college.
He may reform bankruptcy, since he’s done it a lot. He could go after the bankers, though HIS Goldman Sachs allies would protest.
He’d certainly try and reduce the new Cold War if he keeps his promise and Congress and his advisers let him.
Indeed, it’s going to be a matter of pulling the scab off in a brutal manner for any possibility of meaningful, positive, progressive change. It’s frightening that it has come to this but this is what lies ahead, I’m afraid.
Wonder if Trump will make nice-nice with Jeffrey Goldberg.
EVERYONE dies if Clinton had been allowed to start a war with Russia to satiate her MIC overlords. The woman couldn’t even wait until she was elected. She was Putin -baiting throughout the debates and during the final days of the campaign, for goodness’ sake! I sympathize people of color, and promise to do whatever I can to speak out against tyranny against ANY of my fellow Americans. But nukes don’t discriminate by color.
Mr. Emmons
Really a piss-poor analysis. There are reasons that Trump won in a race where he was outspent by a considerable amount; where the main stream media opposed him almost across the board; and where his own party establishment opposed him. Hell, many Republicans jumped ship when they thought he was going to lose. It’s lazy, simplistic and incorrect to suggest that this all comes down to racism. Greenwald writes:
“……It’s natural — and inevitable — that malignant figures will try to exploit this vacuum of authority. All sorts of demagogues and extremists will try to redirect mass anger for their own ends. Revolts against corrupt elite institutions can usher in reform and progress, but they can also create a space for the ugliest tribal impulses: xenophobia, authoritarianism, racism, fascism. One sees all of that, both good and bad, manifesting in the anti-establishment movements throughout the U.S., Europe, and the U.K. — including Brexit. All of this can be invigorating, or promising, or destabilizing, or dangerous: most likely a combination of all that…….”
It was the Midwest that carried the day for Trump – working class America. This was an anti-globalization vote: anti-immigration, anti-corporation (especially the massive multinational corporations), anti-free trade (NAFTA, CAFTA, TPP) and anti-establishment (anti-business as usual). At least make some attempt to explain beyond the usual charges of racism why Trump won. Maybe even go talk to your boss?
Horrendous article which just misses the boat entirely.
Want to blame someone? Blame DWS and the DNC. If they had not torpedoed Sanders in favor of that criminal we would be looking at a different face today.
Dead on.
Hopefully we’ll see a quick end to TI “articles” expressing rage by ignorant and privileged people that their snowflake expectations were denied by a majority of their fellow citizens (who they plainly regard as sub-human and therefore likely deserving of only a 3/5ths vote).
Many of us look forward to seeing Glenn back on top billing and the incessant whining of immature pajama-journalists vanquished with all the other superficial banalities of the silly season.
What’s worse, your bill of particulars, nightmarish though it may be, isn’t exhaustive by a damn sight. If he’s going to be the same in the future as he has been throughout his adult life we’re in for gratuitous abuses of power, paranoid secrecy, scapegoating, and enriching himself, his family, and his friends at the expense of people he decides are expendable (aka marks, taxpayers, the little guy).
Speaking of abuses of power, I’m curious to see how he plans to follow through with his pledges to lock-up Hillary and the other enemies on his list, or, alternately, how he and his groupies will rationalize his failure to do so. Wait, failure? What was I thinking? With Republicans in control of the entire government, 2017 will probably be one big long retributive purge.
Score another big win for the super-rich.
To Alex and all the intercept crew: Thank you for the investigations that you do, and please be ready to continue your work over the next 4 years despite the hate and threats that you will undoubtedly receive. I’m afraid that it’s going to much worse, but we will need good fact-finding journalism now more than ever.
Ha Ha – I was so happy to hear that Trump won, and Hillary Clinton won’t be the POTUS.
Hey Seema. Was Trump widely favored in India?
I read that much of India,s paper currency is being replaced by its government… How is that measure being received by the Indian people as a whole? The timing on this measure seems exceedingly curios.
Karl, I think Clinton was more familiar. Clinton corruption also extends to India.
The Indian English media was blindly and mindlessly following the US MSM like CNN, NYT and WaPo and demonizing Trump.
But a part of the Narendra Mod Govt was probably happier with Trump. I have read tweets from the Hindu right wingers blaming Hillary for the US visa ban on Narendra Modi.
Modi appeared on TV at 8 pm on Tuesday night and said that with effect from midnight all Rupee 500 and 1000 notes would be demonetised. This is around 80% of money in circulation.
Banks were shut on Wednesday. ATMs shut on Wednesday and Tuesday.
So people are strapped for cash. You can’t buy groceries in most stores, pay for taxis etc, if you do not have smaller notes. Most people don’t have bank cards. A large part of the Indian economy operates on cash. So a lot of people are affected. There are huge crowds at banks today.
People who hoarded large amounts of cash in big notes without paying tax or earned illegally are probably worried. This cash needs to be deposited in banks to exchange for new notes and will need to be explained.
With a lot of State elections looming, Modi has probably affected the coffers of his political opponents. So there is a political reason for this measure and its timing.
Some insiders in the BJP probably knew in advance and took necessary steps.
correction – ATMs shut on Wednesday and Thursday.
Alex Emmons it’s time for you to find another occupation other than spewing drivel and calling it journalism. It’s obvious The Intercept is NOT journalism as it piles into the irrational hate bus. Just when a glimmer of hope was sprouting you have provided all of the evidence that it’s just another cog of propaganda in the Matrix. You’re fools.
Matt Drudge did it. He is the new King maker.
http://thehill.com/homenews/media/304982-carl-bernstein-trump-wins-if-alternate-universe-of-drudge-is-right
Never will you learn, Emmons,Mackey Lachances and all your gang of propagandists.
People are sick of your lies. TI turned to be as informative and subtle as Pravda in the Brechniev years, yet here you are whining while you had it coming.
Glenn even wrote a piece about how the disdain of main stream media for the people’s choice during the brexit campaigning contributed and influenced the outcome.
Good thing Omydiar is filthy rich, on the downside he might want some return on investment at some point.
And given how you suck..
At least Alex showed up. Mackey is under suicide watch. They took his belt and shoe laces, emptied his medicine cabinet.
Speaking of which, Pot is legal in California now. The west coast is Up in Smoke.

When stage is empty of true leaders, stupid clowns will take over.
Two party dictatorships, forcing any other voice to keep quite, having vote based on fear and anger and not on policy, plot against progressive alternatives, brought this clawn to us. We are indebted to corporate court elections, to malpractice of main stream media and to leaders who insult our intelligence and are good dealer but not a social democrats. It’s for Obama to release whistleblowers, issue a national apology to them. They don’t need his pardon they need a medal of honor
Yawn…
Another pundit who doesn’t get it, Keep screaming “sexist, racist, FASCIS” to those people on the ‘wrong side of the tracks’, that’ll do it.
NOT A WORD about 30 years of ‘GNC/DOP’ pandering to moneyed elites and the resulting paupering of middle/working classes, cos’ that’s got nothing to so with it, right?
This is Brexit II with nobs on and yet the talking heads still don’t get it!
Some observations:
People voted for:
1. Making America Great Again.
2. Putting America First.
3. Draining the swamp in Washington DC.
4. Law and order.
5. Rebuilding American infrastructure.
6. Defending the border.
They voted against:
1. Corruption
2. Too Big to Fail.
3. Rigging the system(s)
4. Excessive political correctness.
5. Uncontrolled immigration.
6. Squandering America’s wealth on foreign wars.
7. TPP and bad trade deals. (TPP is Dead.)
I’m more worried about the Republican Congress than I am Trump. Trump left open the door to helping urban America’s, inner cities and minorities. Trump said he would protect Social Security.
Right out of the gate Trump gets to nominate the next supreme court justice and maybe several more besides.
The Department of Justice is due for an overhaul. Likewise perhaps, the FBI.
Maybe Assange can leave the embassy now.
Well, Dems, don’t say you weren’t warned well in advance that this was going to happen. You had your chance to nominate a candidate, Bernie Sanders, who would have beaten this clown in a landslide. But no, you broke your own party’s rules to interfere in the primaries, and used the same dirty electoral fraud tactics used by the Bush-Cheney campaign in two consecutive presidential elections, all in order to run the ONE candidate you KNEW could lose to whichever troglodyte the GOPhers ultimately nominated, because you’d rather have lost with another Republican-wannabe than let a liberal head the ticket. Your candidate and your party leadership got caught doing things that are, at BEST, highly unethical, and in many cases outright CRIMINAL, but still you plodded along, ignoring the very real problems this created for you in the eyes of the public. You childishly kept pointing the finger of blame at Russia whenever a new scandal arose, accusing everyone who dared criticize you of being an agent of the Kremlin. This included even people you had, months earlier, praised because they’d abused the power of their office to let your candidate off the hook for crimes anyone else would have been prosecuted for. You alienated, ignored, and bullied your own party’s dwindling base, cynically, hubristically, STUPIDLY thinking you could win by pandering to the GOP base while assuming your own would shut up and follow you no matter what. You ditched the fifty-state strategy Howard Dean implemented that won you Congress and the White House in 2006 and 2008, hoarding all your party’s resources for Clinton and leaving the down-ticket candidates to fend for themselves, because the Clintons couldn’t care less about the party as a whole, only themselves and their own electoral prospects.
And the bitch of the whole mess is, everyone saw this coming but you. Hell, even Michael Moore, who has this weird blind spot when it comes to Clinton, saw this coming. He predicted it. He stated quite clearly the reasons why: That Americans are fed up with policies that favor only the super-rich, that Democrats are rightly seen as contributing to and propping up those policies, and that the candidate you rammed down all our throats wasn’t popular with the electorate.
So don’t you dare blame this on Green Party candidates or millennials. They are not the ones who fucked us all over. You are. YOU did this, Democrats. You damn well better own it. Stop trying to fob off responsibility for YOUR misdeeds on everyone else. No one forced you to rig the primaries to favor a right-wing extremist politician best described as Dick Cheney in a pantsuit. Americans have longer political memories than you think. We were just as fed up with neoconservative policies this year as we were in 2006 and 2008, and instead of opposing those policies, you embraced them wholeheartedly. Harry Truman famously quipped, “Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will choose the real Republican every time.” How many decades has it been since he said those words, and you STILL haven’t gotten the fucking hint?
Well, if there are any good things to come out of this electoral farce, it’s these: 1. With any luck, this year marks the end of both the Democrat and Republican Parties. The left will need to spend the next four years turning the Greens or some other organization into a real political force capable of smashing barriers and winning elections. But no one wants the two establishment parties anymore. 2. The anti-war, anti-Wall Street movement, which largely disappeared and went silent under Obama and the Democrats, may crawl back out from under whatever rock it’s been hiding under, and make itself heard once again. Of course, having proven that they only oppose wars and Wall Street when GOPhers are in charge, and are perfectly fine with them when Democrats run the show, they’re going to have a real credibility problem. Those of us who never tossed our principles out the window will have to take charge and shape the movement into something of real integrity and influence.
As always, it’s up to the left to clean up the mess created by you posers. Pray it’s not too late, because right now, it’s looking pretty bad for humanity.
You said it a lot better than I could. I’d also add that Clinton and her allies set up the “pied piper” strategy to get the media focused on Trump. How did that work out for you? As for the antaar movement, Trump is more antiwar than Clinton.
I’d add a few things from Trump that are good. With luck, we get to undo free trade, and get back to fair trade, which will improve the economy and create jobs. With luck, we’ll end the Cold War, and reduce tensions (and, possibly, military spending- though I would not bet on it). With luck, we’ll stop fighting with terrorists in Syria and go against them.
You are wrong about Sanders. He was determined,
from the very beginning of his pseudo-campaign,
to support whoever the democrats put forward as a candidate.
He and his supporters who remained within the democrat corruption
played a major role in preventing Jill Stein from gaining ground.
Sanders is typical of the democrat’s hypocrisy and fraudulence
which actually helped Trump look like an outsider
when, in fact,
neither Trump nor Sanders really are outsiders.
This nailed it. Michael Moore of all people predicted Clinton would lose the rust belt. How she lost Florida I have no idea.
From Obama to Trump…truly hard to believe. Four years of a misogynistic know-nothing, coming up.
Let me guess: the “media elite” somehow doesn’t include TI!? Nice try. TI collectively treated the election like Clinton’s victory was a forefone conclusion, as demonstrated by the surprised tone of this piece
To be fair, TI did publish more articles critical of Clinton than many media outlets. (And some of their Trump articles covered attacks the “mainstream” media did not cover.)
At the end of the day, TI was pretty woeful in its 2016 Presidential coverage.
What a cesspool of a nation!
I just looked at results in individual states and the top three
candidates across this steaming scum pond of gun-toting
dickheads were Trump, Clinton and Johnson.
The three candidates of self-centered moneymaking vanity
and flag-waving irresponsibility dominated across the
putrefying states.
The only candidate for president who stated goals which could
reduce the toxic nature of the faking U$A – Jill Stein –
was again loudly told that she was not wanted by the dim-shits.
Hell is what the devils want.
> the racist “birther” movement
the left is so fucking stupid. trump thrived on shit like this
No, wrong again.
Forgiven because you are young and donot understand, maybe too good to understand the real plan of the ClintonObama lies.
Alex– try understanding ONE thing for today: the total unreasonable HELL that PresObama personally oversees over PvtManning is his personal vendetta against Mannings SUBLIME MORALITY.
If that is what you are after, then the ClintonObamas were out to kill him a slow death.
Now, as journalist, ask ypurself “why?” and you may start to understand what they were up to.
Clintonemail.vom to talk to criminals.
Another stupid article trying to pretend that Trump and Clinton
wouldn’t BOTH be “nightmares” for anyone who isn’t extremely rich.
The democrats history of enabling Wall Street’s predatory global
destruction with the NeoCon agenda they and the republicans
both promote is what defeated the “Queen of Chaos.”
Trump is a twist on Reagan and so is Hillary Clinton and the fact
that so many people support either of these lousy examples is
an indictment of the people who voted for either of them.
In reality, Bernie Sanders helped elect Trump because he is THE
prominent example of a typical democrat who says he wants one thing
and then turns around and betrays what he says he wanted
because being a democrat is more important than having
any integrity, much less, really fighting against corruption.
Cabal: 1
Democracy: 0
I see Comey’s cabal hand prints all over this one. This was just a little toooo perfect of an outcome. The House, the Senate??? I think asking Supreme Court Justice J. Ginsburg to postpone retirement another 8 years is reeeeally pushing it.
RBG is a tough sonofabitch. She’ll hold out 4, and I don’t think Trump will win a second term, unable to fulfill his grand promises. If anyone goes, it will be Thomas, and it would be hard to find anyone more conservative than him. Well, maybe Alito, but he’s already on the bench, so that’s a moot point.
Hillary deserved to lose but Trump didn’t deserve to win. The DNC sacrificed America in an attempt to make history again even if it meant scraping the world into the pits of hell. I think it’s time we start taking a serious look at the Green party.
CYBERIA FOR HILLARY.
VOTE MACKEXIT NOW.
ASSANGE, SNOWDEN, MANNING, GREENWALD, & LEE FANG for presidential medals.
I agree. Especially w/ Lee Fang recommendation. I believe that Lee was truly fair and balanced. And pls I don’t mean that as an insult. Sincerely, I believe he is what the Founders may have had in mind when they were thinking of a free press.
It was funny jumping between msnbc and fox clearly biased in how they reported the e-college votes
At least we will be spared from another Cold War and less unneeded bloodshed. DNC lost it with doing away Bernie. So here we are.
Looking forward now to Obama releasing all whistleblowers. I do not stand for what Trump stands for, but I must admit that I did like his speech. Unless whistleblowers are not freed soon, this is what democracy is.
Will not shed tears for Democratic Party who corporatized themselves, sold out their base, and said tough chit, vote for us, we are the lesser evil. Skrew the lesser evil. The “Russians” did not do this. The power brokers in the Democratic Party did it. Clean up the corruption. Tear it done and rebuild it. For now the Clintons can enjoy defeating Bernie Sanders. Enjoy your victory.
We live in interesting times.
Any difference between North Korea and the U.S. …just disappeared.
Neoliberalism is real and it kicked ass, or should I say ‘donkey.’
Somehow, this clip (Tomorrow Belongs To Me) from the 1972 movie Cabaret appears to be wholly apposite this morning: https://youtu.be/FN7r0Rr1Qyc
America appears to have out-Brexited Britain’s decision to leave the European Union – both decisions which I believe do not augur well for either of our countries. America has just handed all branches of its Government to the Republicans, something which has not happened since 1928 and which effectively removes many of the checks and balances for which its Constitution is justly famed. It’s also timely to recall that on the 27th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, America elects a right wing ideologue as President who proposes to build a similar wall between US and Mexico. Thus begins the backwards march to the attitudes and values of the 1950’s and beyond.
The real winner here is Vladimir Putin, ably assisted and facilitated by Julian Assange & Wikileaks.
Under Obama:
Passenger removed from plane for speaking Arabic.
Under Trump:
Passenger thrown off the plane for speaking Arabic?
Under Clinton : nuclear war, millions more lives lost, destroyed plane, destroyed cities, and the Lolita Express keeps flying.
You think a megalomaniac idiot who had his Twitter taken away won’t start a war? Won’t destroy millions of lives? You haven’t been paying attention.
The blame for Trump’s rise is Clinton’s. Polls showed before the primary that only Bernie could beat Trump. Bernie was clear about this but the DNC ignored those polls because of Clinton’s strangle hold on the party. Her bossy ass bad. Then she rigged the primary against Bernie. Her lust for power bad. Bernie, with the evidence in hand, failed to make the hero move and announce a run as an Independent at the convention. His lack of sound judgment/leadership bad. Her hawkish talk re: Russia after being part of an administration that proved it not only talks shit but actually carries out attacks on country after country was deemed a WWIII serious threat by many experts. Her completely fucked up bad. Throw in her rap sheet and her lies, on top of lies, on top of lies…and you have Clinton standing waist deep in blame. Voila! a Trump victory.
As Sam Harris would surely point out, this comes to show that Americans are not ready for democracy. It’s like opening the polls to Christians from the 12th century.
No. This is democracy, exactly the same as the Brexit referendum. The majority of people have decided, so now accept the result of the election and get on with it.
That might have been an obscure reference. To be clear, it’s sarcasm.
No, the majority of the people have NOT decided, because the majority of the people voted for Clinton. No, this is NOT exactly the same as Brexit because in the case of Brexit the will of the majority prevailed. No, this is NOT a democracy, it’s a constitutional republic, because the candidate with fewer votes won.
No, the majority of people have NOT decided, because Clinton received more votes. No, this is not exactly like Brexit, because with Brexit the will of the majority prevailed. No, this is NOT a democracy, it’s a constitutional republic, because the candidate with fewer votes won.
Keep in mind that the majority of Americans may well have NOT voted for trump. Once all votes are counted, Clinton could liky have won the popular vote.
Or is it the nightmare nation set free?
Will Americans be able to follow Trump’s lead to success?
There will be no holds barred now, just like his campaign.
It appears American voters were afraid to call Mr. Trump’s bluff about not conceding the election. The key question is therefore: will this result restore Mr. Trump’s faith in democracy? The jury is out but if Mr. Trump does not succeed in destroying democracy in his first 100 days in office, then it is probably safe for another four years. The presidency has become reality TV and the electorate decided that Mr. Trump would provide more entertainment.
They may very well be right. Mrs. Clinton promised a nuclear war with Russia – which would have been interesting. But Mr. Trump could go to war against just about anybody at a moments notice. So ultimately the people opted for the increased suspense – not knowing whether the next war will be against China, Mexico or some other country that Americans haven’t even heard of yet. The United States already fought a cold war against Russia and won and people are looking for a new script.
Also, as the recent article by Mr. Scahill made clear, the public is tiring of imprisoning and torturing an idealist like Chelsea Manning. Mr. Trump’s promise to imprison and, Republicans hope, torture Mrs. Clinton therefore struck a chord with many voters. They probably didn’t want to admit this in pre-election polls and the pundits, who take polls at face value, were therefore largely caught by surprise.
In any case, congratulations are in order to Mr. Trump. And who knows – if America starts to become interesting again, perhaps Mr. Greenwald will even return from Brazil and start writing once more about US politics.
The outcome of the elections shows that the average american is “racist, xenophobic, authoritarian, climate-science-denying, misogynistic, “grab-them-by-the-pussy””-type of person.
After Bush being re-elected we all knew it, but some still denied it. Now there is no more denying!
The editorial board at the INTERCEPT have been spectacularly childish in this election. At every opportunity you have danced to the tune of your own conspiratorial tune. Assange, wikileaks bla bla bla. We all know that the US state is extremely powerful and has used that power in ways that explicitly breach the constitutional rights of millions of people. But there has rarely been any sense of proportion in your analysis of real or potential harms.
So, in this election cycle you focused your considerable attention on Hillary – oh, what a menace she is. You barely ever thought to examine the nutjob that just got elected. I imagine that you assumed like everyone else that his clear deficiencies as a human being would make him unelectable. Wrong! and shame on you – shame on Assange (he is a fucking bell-end intent on anarchy and adoration). Learn to do your job by first prioritising potential threats – his name his Trump. He is now your President.
Shame on you for your remarks about Julian Assange, who bravely helped ensure that the public were well informed. You talk of breaching the constitutional rights of millions of people. What the fuck do you think Obama did with mass surveillance? Today marks the end of the Fascist regime.
Hope you enjoy WikiLeaks Top Ten :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zeLHte3YHE
If you’re looking for someone to blame, blame the Democrats. This was all predictable before the primaries were over. At a time of so much anti-establishment sentiment, the Democrats decide to nominate a bank-owned establishment centrist, rigging the process at every step and even engaging in blatant election fraud.
The DNC chose the candidate of Wall Street over the populist candidate, not that there was ever much doubt they would. They underestimated the anger of the public that drove us to reject the status quo, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered if they read it correctly. A genuine New Dealer was never going to be part of their business model.
The next question (after the question of whether or not we’ll survive) is, will the Liberal Establishment ever allow a real candidate for progressive change? It says something that they feared Sanders more than the risk of a Trump presidency…
calls into question the judgement of the self appointed arbiters of righteousness here at TI… when they clearly preferred ceding all branches of government to the alt-right… just to spite the democrats.
Now that is some breathtaking strategy.
4 + years of alt-rightlandia….
but the geniuses at TI can thank their stains they won’t have HRC…
fucking incredible stupidity
You barely ever thought to examine the nutjob that just got elected.
That statement is just factually wrong. All that is needed to prove that is one link:
https://theintercept.com/staff/robertmackey/
The Intercept has, in fact, covered both candidates in all their grimy glory. Sometimes in constructive ways, sometimes not. The fact that people continue to come here fashing them over their inattention to one or the other is no more nor less than a focus of the complainant’s rank hypocrisies and an incapacity for critical thought and/or basic reading comprehension combined with monumental blinders.
ACT NOW:- DISPATCH HILLARY & CO. TO CYBERIA.
Biggest Heroes:- Assange & Wikileaks, RT AMERICA (esp. Ed Schultz), @lhfang, DrJillStein.
Biggest Losers: NYT, WashP, all MSM, & Robert Mackey.
Erratum (< I'm unashamedly intoxicated): Add DNC + GOP to: Biggest Losers.
Agreed. Now investigate their criminal empire, the hot tub emails, spirit warming, Lolita express, and all of the corruption.
There are miracles!
The hideous alien shape shifting criminal has been defeated.
Bill Clinton was responsible for endearing the democratic party to deep pocket interests – whether they be personal patrons or transnational corporate entities.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/clinton-money/
It is only fitting then that Hillary has reaped the whirlwind of long-simmering popular discontent.
In turn, democrats (such as the author of this article) continue to engage in the type of chronic self-deception that has allowed for the unremitting erosion of progressive ideals that has become the calling card of every self-interested, hat-in-hand political fundraiser. Even Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren – the current vote and fundraising darlings of the progress left of the democratic party – have dutifully sung the praises of the Clinton’s out of deference to their own political ambitions.
Truth be told, the Clintons have been contemptuously grabbing lady liberty by the pussy for decades – in fact, the practice has become an institution for both parties. Fuck the constitution, the rule of law, common decency, and the common man. It is a dog-eat-dog-world…and if the average Joe is too stupid, or too weak, to see through the bullshit and get his then that is his problem.
What do you call a black president who uses executive privilege to act as judge, jury, and drone executioner of Muslim terror suspects – and those who just happen to be in proximity to them? Is he a racist? Is he a xenophobe? Is he an authoritarian?
What do you call a black president who allowed for six years of unprecedented expansion of deep sea platform drilling in the wake of the gulf disaster? Or for Arctic oil and gas development in the wake of his departure from office? What do you call a black president who allows for the unprecedented expansion of fracking at the expense of the environment? What do you call a black president who pays lip service to the looming problem of man made global warming while failing for eight years to adequately address the problem head on? Is he a climate science denier or merely a political pragmatist?
Yes, let’s keep pointing the finger at a “white man” who has never spent a day in office so that we do not have to live with the uncomfortable truth that the term “progressive politician” has now become an antiquated oxymoron through the actions of a black progressive, Nobel prize winning, constitutional attorney who we all voted into office – twice!!! Shame on us!
Who would have thought that melanin (or the lack thereof) and an SRY gene could be the source of so much evil and suffering in the world? When are we going to stop lying to ourselves?
Shut up whining. You sound pitiful because your corrupt candidate lost, as it should be. Find a new profession because you suck as a journalist. You have no morals.
Another sour grapes, article from the corrupt mass media :
US election results: What will President Trump do first?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2016-37862521
You are already killing Muslims by the hundreds of thousands, displacing millions and threatening the security of hundreds of millions if not billions of people of all races and creeds already. You are funding terrorists and waging two Endless wars that you use to enable your global imperialism. The concept of American Exceptionalism is complete and utter Racism, nothing else, and you use it to except yourself from climate change, pollution, peace treaties, trade agreements, non-proliferation treaties, arms embargoes, mass surveillance and spying and respecting the other peoples you share this planet with. Trump says nothing Americans ain’t doing already. He is an echo of your hatefulness. How fucking dare you suggest otherwise and claim to be cutting edge investigative journalists with a social conscience – shame on you.
“Hillary Voters Crash Canadian Immigration Website”
I guess this is great news for people, having the choice of destination and the luxury and convenience of applying for immigration online.
In contrast with those drowning off the Libyan coast, trying to flee their country which was turned into a heaven for terrorism and corruption by US’s former Secretary of State, Hillary R Clinton.
Karma is a bitch, is it not? Should be an interesting 4 years as well. let us hope that our Legislative Branch grows a big set of balls to keep the bloviating narcissist in line.
Unlikely. For one thing, despite being establishment, Republicans are still the same party as Trump (For now). Further, the legislative branch has failed to rein in the Executive for a long time, particularly on foreign policy and war.
We are entering what may be politely referred to as a new age of chivalry, or more directly, a Dark Age. We see a world where terrorism is the new democracy, one terrorist one vote. This terrorism does not always follow the stereotype; though violent attack is generally effective we see in this case that a far more genteel campaign of hacking can deliver more effective results. The underlying point is that the person who breaks the law, whether as an immigrant scaling a fence or a sheikh ordering planes flown into a building, generally succeeds in getting legal asylum or troops out of Saudi Arabia. Courage rules the day — everything else is just chatter. The media can’t be trusted to say if the sky is blue, the forums censor the speakers while most of the people talking are robots, but the Terrorist-Errant rides straight and true and everyone knows his name. Science itself has been sullied, turned mostly into a quest to find ways to track and spy on people or to predict and control their thoughts, and religion continues to serve most as merely a cloak for the aspirations of the few, yet in mindless violence there is a purity and purpose that ennobles the fighter and entitles him, eventually, to a significant stipend from the government in honor of his efforts.
Against this backdrop we see a country abandon the notion that health care is a right and instead begins to think of it as a privilege only for the wealthy. The next step is to reject it as a sin, and embrace a medieval Christian attitude that healing comes from God alone. Once the life expectancy of the common man has fallen, who will care if it also drops for a few glitterati? We shall sing the noble stories of heroes like George Pickering II who stood over the body of his son and fended off the medical vampires until the break of dawn, and look toward a time when all the undead seeking pieces of our corpses are put to the stake.
Somewhat similarly we shall see the constant vicious persecutions of people over some long-lost recorded comment give way to demands that Americans be protected by putting them behind the Great Firewall, which can be viewed as protecting the Chinese from such harassment. A country that doesn’t believe in freedom of speech will eventually drop the free-speech infrastructure that helps put its citizens at such a disadvantage compared to H1Bs by keeping them so out of step with corporate culture. And with that, we can expect that most of the creative work, movie making and such, will naturally gravitate to Beijing, though of course as they do now they will shoot on location all over the world, taking in 10% or more of their revenue by lacing their films with propaganda for the local host country. With this offshoring of the communications and content infrastructure, the next step is to view it with increasing hostility as an alien influence, much as Venezuela or Cuba treats the Internet today.
This smug attitude that you display in this piece is the exact reason trump got elected. You still don’t get it. People are tired of it. They are tired of the racial politics, they are tired of being called stupid. They are tired of the condescending attitude of the type that you display in this article. Its going to be very entertaining watching all the lib reporters explain away how they got this election so wrong. So smug and sure of themselves. They got the Iraq war wrong, they never saw the 2008 crash coming and now they blew this. Will they learn anything? No.
Absolutely the racial politics is stupid. It was a tragedy for Clinton to go after “the” Hispanic voter, “the” black voter, and not after defensible ideals. But Trump went after “the” white voter and won, which does not really invalidate the approach, however poorly real white voters will be served by the outcome.
“defensible ideals”
Those defensible ideals were/are so absent now that one wonders whether they ever existed.
A universal right to health care is a defensible ideal. A guaranteed minimum income, or at least guarantees of basic food and shelter for all, are defensible ideals. The right to life, in other words, is a defensible ideal. The pursuit of happiness – which is to say, the right of people who make small amounts of money not to be taxed while those who have vast stashes sit on them and don’t pay a penny – that’s defensible. And liberty – including the right to bear arms! And fireworks, and marijuana, and unusual pets! That is defensible. There was actually a very beautiful statement of many liberal ideals that was put forward as described by https://theintercept.com/2016/08/03/black-lives-matter-answers-the-question-what-are-your-demands/ – though it is wrapped, very unfortunately, in race-specific language that makes it sound, until you read the actual proposal, like the worst of identity politics.
For our time, the “taghut” of trying to impose a sane government on the country seems to be dead. Our people never did it, theirs never will, and democracy is over worldwide. We will see how quickly freedom of speech follows it. Our task now is to turn inward, to seek renewed faith, build isolated refuges in the world as the people of dark ages past, to cogitate on these matters in the abstract without worrying on political matters, to write theories of liberalism and freedom that may not be read for five hundred years. The time for collecting data on free societies has just about passed – now it is time to think back on what we have learned and condense it into solid theory.
Well said. This result represents the biggest “fuck you” to the establishment since Brexit, and they still aren’t getting it.
You’re right about this. The problem is…. many of them ARE racist and stupid, which is why we got and continue to get the ‘Murica we have today.
A reminder:
Inequality, globalisation and why Donald Trump won
http://news.sky.com/story/inequality-globalisation-and-why-donald-trump-won-10650848
Just like Brexit, a stunning rebuke for the elite, for the corrupt mass media, the war criminals and war profiteers, and for the entire rotten establishment.Hope they all choke on it.
A more relevant parallel might be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_and_Justice (some prefer Duterte, but the Philippines is so fucked up that it is hard to even go there. Poland is American right down to the red-white-and-blue flag)
Actually, Poland’s flag is just red and white. (I’m a nitpicker about some things.)
Yeah, you’re right! I must have misunderstood something I was watching.
This is the end of the nightmare, wake up.It would have been far worse, and possibly even nuclear war time if Hillary had been elected.
Yes..she had everything on her side and still lost. She had the entire media establishment on her side, an endless stream of cash, all the major celebrities advocating for her and even help from the republican party itself. Hopefully this is the end of the democratic horror for a long time.
It should be once a proper investigation begins
Trump is awful – worse than every other candidate excepting only Hillary.
The Democratic Establishment gave Trump the White House when they stole the primary from Bernie.
The Democratic Party now has no legitimate leadership. We need to clean out the corrupt warmongers and rebuild from the ground up to be ready for 2020.
Yes purge the war mongers, and war profiteers that have bankrupted the US and caused so many lives to be lost. Then ensure a full investigation of the Clinton foundation, so that more corruption can be addressed.
Please, make a note on your calendar to come back here in a year and tell us how Trump’s purge of war mongers and war profiteers is going.
Well if he doesn’t purge them I’m sure he will turn off the constantly growing expenditure on the never ending self perpetuated, fake WOT. Ending and not expanding military conflicts will save lives, and the money being wasted in these never ending conflicts can be put to better use investing in infrastructure, hospitals, schools, transport networks, and job creation programs.
We’ll see that in the report too. I might not have to wait the full year.
President Trump must now ensure that Edward Snowden is pardoned, Bradley Manning released, and that Julian Assange can walk free from his captivity knowing he will not face extradition.
“ensure Edward Snowden is pardoned, Bradley Manning released, and that Julian Assange can walk free”
If that’s possible, it could well be a new era for the free world.
How about:
1) Sending Ashton Carter with some of his NSA buddies into exile, preferably to Siberia?
2) Hillary Clinton to be confined into a small room with no sun, for 4 years (before the transfer to The Hague)?
3) Dick Cheney takes the place of Manning for 35 years (before receiving the capital punishment for crimes against humanity)?
The Deep State still exists, and I’m pretty sure Manning isn’t going anywhere. But I’ve been wrong before. We’ll see.
The Intercept has turned into Huffpo, it’s sad to see journalism take a backseat to smug, fact-free partisan garbage.
I’m hoping that the millions of Iranians and Syrians Hillary Clinton would have butchered will get to live. I’m hoping the TPP doesn’t pass, although Obama could cap off his legacy as a shitty failure forever by doing so now.
by the way, Bill Clinton’s servant in the Congo, Kagame, killed over 6 million congolese so that the Clinton’s corporate masters could steal minerals without living beings interrupting them. The clinton crimes bills put more black people in jail than republicans in the last 40 years. It’s not an exaggeration to say the Clinton’s are hitler-esque racists, and yet you don’t say a single word about it.
Hypocrisy of the greatest magnitude being indulged on this shitty website. All Americans are deluded drinkers of the Constitutional Kool Aid. Forget the Trumpdown, time for the Yankdown.
That he promises friendly relations with all nations willing is hardly a nightmare, lest the author is a sycophant of the destructive murderous Straussian Philosophy and its minions the Neo-Conservatives.
Let us at least see if his election might deescalate the WAR-mongering imperial ambitions of the U.S. Government.
The nightmare, was the folly of foreign policy hawks the previous administrations.
The author seems to expect us to believe that muslim americans were having a great time under Obama and that people in Syria and Iran were just waiting for hillary clinton to come and embrace them in the spirit of multicultural understanding.
Bush promised the same thing in 2000.
I think Trump will quickly get new wars started. And the thing is, I don’t think he’s going to merely lose in Iran, I think he is going to lose so badly that his successor is forced to pay reparations just to get a peace, with the admission (finally!) that the U.S. is no longer capable of acting as a “superpower” of any sort.
What makes you think that Drumpf won’t be a warmonger?
On the one hand, I have hopes for Trump to reduce some tensions, like the needless Cold War with Russia- he may even accept the self-determination of the people of Crimea, South Ossetia and Abkhazia!
OTOH, Trump has shown a tendency to be very belicose. Further, while he does threaten those who deserve threatening, like IS and their FSA and Gulf allies, and the PRC (Recognize Taiwan again!), he does threaten those who are not threats, like Iran. Further, he’s got some advisers who still want to ratchet up tensions with Russia. (Even Michael Flynn, who is partnered with the infamous neocon Michael Ledeen.)
Here is an important aspect of real crisis:
Long before the campaign, and throughout the campaign, large swaths of the media were in incessant bullshitting mode and continually censored the news they want hidden from public.
Will the media continue with the same misleading and propagandistic role?
The answer is probably and sadly: Yes.
Yes — whatever their intention (I still wonder if they were running reverse psychology for Trump) the media ran so many “Hillary can’t lose” stories that their reputation is irrevocably ruined. If they all report that a leak at a nearby nuclear reactor is under control tomorrow, you pack the kids in the car and you fucking DRIVE.
We just elected a misogynistic, racist, sexual predator, xenophobic, white supremacist fraudster. Swell job Amerikkka.
Hope Maccy enjoys the result.
Sour grapes.
The nightmare President is the one that has just left the Whitehouse. Finally we have an honest President who will serve all the people, and not just a few elite billionaires.Lets hope President Trump instigates a proper and full investigation into the Clintons, and into the Democrats based on the email leaks.
Why stop there? Why not go after those who lied us into Iraq? Why not go after those who gave aid, comfort and arms to terrorists in Libya and Syria? Let justice be done, though the heavens fall and though Republicans get frog-marched along with the Clintons.
Many people were talking about riots by hard-nosed Trump supporters if he lost. However, let me tell you what might happen now that he won. The next time a rogue cop kills an unarmed African American or Latino, then hell will break loose since both these groups would view President Trump an anti-dark skinned leader and total cop supporter, no matter what, and take to the streets because they may feel “what the hell have you got to lose?”
This is indeed just awful. The one thing Trump said in his acceptance speech was a vow to be friendly to all other nations and not to interfere in their affairs. He also promised to build U.S. infrastructure which should put many Americans to work. That’s all well and good, and greatly relieves my terror that Hillary was going to take us to war in Syria directly confronting Russia.
But what of our African-American citizens? Our Muslims? What terror must they be waking up to? Trump made sure to give a shout-out to the NYPD and spew about how “under-appreciated” law enformeemtn is. And what of all the dead black people at their thuggish hands? Whither BLM?
What of civil liberties, such as free speech? Or the Supreme Court? Hillary’s nominees would have been corporate lackey’s, but his are likely to be full-blown authoritarians.
The only silver lining — other than avoiding war with Syria/Russia — is that Trumps’ doing the same things Hillary would have done will generate opposition from liberals who would have blessed them all if they were Hillary’s policies. That, and the DNC who sandbagged Bernie and treated we supporters lower than shit hasdbetter get out of the way and let us take over, or their party dies — and Trump serves 8 years.
My heart breaks for our citizens of color, but I feel some satisfaction at the misery and repudiation of the DNC and Hillary hacks. Their hubris was boundless and no cohort has ever so greatly deserved a comeuppance.
You are so full of shit you reek.
You and your idiotic pals endorsed every single smear, including the use of the FBI to throw an election… mocking and deriding anyone who dared suggest Trump get equal investigatory treatment.
And now you’re not happy?
Fuck you Mona
Was that comment really necessary? You are no better because of your bellicose outburst.
Elections have consequences….
those who did all they could to see Donald Trump got a pass while the Demonized™ candidate got non stop attacks… can rest assured that they accomplished their goal.
Hey, John… you’re offended?
You have seen NOTHING yet.
Relax. You exalted the wrong candidate, and you’re blaming the people who pointed this out? You were warned, and you didn’t listen. And you’re still not listening–you think Mona is happy? You’re a fool. I blame the Democratic Party for this disaster. And you. Put the long knives away already.
Tim… you and people like Mona are fucking liars, given to smearing others and making pronouncements, absent due process….doing everything you can to disable rigorous examination of Trump while deriding those who saw what was happening as CTR and HRC plants….
and now you have the fucking gall to scold me …”you exalted the wrong candidate”?
Go fuck yourself TimN… you think elections don’t have consequences?
Are you insane?
You must be so proud….. your righteousness is upheld with the ‘exalted™” election of your favored candidate
Hillary and her Wall Street coddling entourage of warmongers, and her head in the sand, reality denying supporters own this loss.
Uh.
Yup.
You made the list idiot.
Blaming others is all your kind can manage.
Blaming others?
You mean blaming those who sought, actively, to attack any and all who opposed the neofascist from coming into power.
Who cheered the extra-legal FBI manipulations of a Presidential election?
Just so they could pound their self-righteous chests with spite?
Fuck you altohone… At least some recognized what a Trump victory would mean….
The craven morons who didn’t can take a look in the mirror…and pat themselves on the back that the terrible, horrible, most awful HRC didn’t get it.
Talk about cutting off your nose just to spite your face.
She actually made a very good post with worthwhile insights.
….and you? Other than your hateful, foul mouth full of insults I see nothing of any value whatsoever. You’re a zero. Go crawl back under your rock and rot there.
Your house is on fire, and you still find the gall to belittle and criticize the only neighbor who could have prevented that fire? Are you for real?
choke on it?
Hellary threw the election away. She villified. Had no plan. Played the blame game and pretended she was walking on water. Hellary was not a trail blazer. She lied – a capital sin for a woman. She hid stuff – another capital sin for a woman. Hellary crossed Bernie and dissed everyting he stood for. She had 2 faces – another capital sin for a woman. She was the WORST CANDYDATE the dems could have picked. It was all downhill from there.
The dems have no-one to blame but themselves for the biggest colossal failure since fried rice. And that failure was also huge.
The sun has risen – just for once Obama was right about something.
This all began with deep failures of imagination within the Democrats:
* The Democrats failed to expand or even maintain the sort of process that Barack Obama’s campaign site originally had whereby they tried to bring constituents into policy planning.
* Related to this, they failed to give Democrat voters the sense that they belonged to a social organization *between* elections.
* The Democrats failed to consider any alternative in immigration policy but offering the reward of citizenship for successfully breaking the law. That is a foolhardy way to expand immigration and they always knew it.
* The Democrats failed to act on clear evidence that immigrants were pushing down wages and replacing jobs outright in tech industries, that Mexicans were invited per NAFTA to drive trucks across the U.S. driving down American wages and so on. This was a bad foul-up for a party trying to position itself as the defender of the worker, leading to the obscene display of blue collar workers lining up in droves to back a candidate who will charge them a national sales tax so heirs don’t have to pay any tax on becoming inherited billionaires.
* The Democrats failed to offer any route to limit immigration from Islamic countries with very different cultures from the United States despite the obvious popularity of this issue. Note that the cumulative effect of this and the previous points is that Trump voters felt they were having an unlimited number of foreigners hostile to American ideals being forced on them in defiance of the law without having any way to speak out against it other than by voting for Bozo.
* The Democrats failed to raise a proper stink when the Republicans sabotaged Obamacare. The failure to make promised payments led to the collapse of insurance cooperatives that were a vital safeguard. They should have been railing DAILY about the imminent collapse of Obamacare but instead chose a nothing-is-going-to-go-wrong approach very reminiscent of the media’s see-no-evil approach to Trump.
on top of that, when decision makers lose and also earn money while doing so, over time, they become (mutate to) professional losers. And then the arrogance emerges.
Not what we expected, but not all that unexpected, either. This is what very often happens in societies where majorities and near-majorities feel that they have been mistreated, used and abused by the elite establishment running the show: they cleave to demagogues who play to their fears, frustrations and anger — sometimes mean-spirited, buffoonish demagogues clearly possessed of shit-for-brains.
In this case, the disgruntled red zone white working class has, indeed, suffered the wrongs of which they complain. And they are correct to blame the establishment elites who have visited this suffering on them. The error is in also blaming minorities and “the other” and seeing Herr Vulgarian as savior and solution rather than egomaniacal opportunist.
That, however, is no more erroneous than the views of Clinton voters, who saw her as other than a self-obsessed, power-and-money-mad whore for Wall Street and a warmonger par excellence.
If you don’t want shit like this, and much worse, to engulf society, you’d damned well better set about dismantling the system that produces the disaffection that leads to these results.
And just by the way, pussy-grabbing, and bragging about it, are despicable acts, but they aren’t in the same league with droning babies. Let’s work on our priorities, huh?
Oh, and before anyone starts yammering about particular states and regions, take a look at the county map of this election. The divide is essentially between big-city folks and nearly everyone else (except for a few college towns and rich suburbs) all across the nation.
Doug you’re a fucking piece of fetid garbage.
Fuck you and your faux moralizing horse shit.
If you keep telling white people that they will be a minority by 2050, you might just get a reaction.
guess the DNC should have run Bernie Sanders against The Donald – if they had they would be doing victory laps.
Now the GOP and DNC are in ruins. What comes next?
Who knows, isn’t that the point?
What has been the Intercept’s ratio of articles dredging up dirt on Clinton vs. Trump? Because you all sure could have fooled me that you’re disappointed in this result.
Put a sock in it Alex Emmons. What a whingey little diatribe. Granted both Clinton and Trump are bad, but Clinton is much, much worse. Especially on foreign policy in Syria and Ukraine. What’s more, Trump is an outsider instead of a slimey, filthy career politician who peddles influence for millions of dollars in speaking fees to investment banks. Trump will shake things up a bit, and that’s a good thing! Sorry you didn’t get your little neo-con witch elected. Loser.
You are simply out of your fucking mind.
shake things up? You mean like a volcano? a hurricane? a newkular bomb?
That shake things up enough for fucking morons like you?
Awwwww….poor little RMD’s got his knickers in a bunch ’cause HRC lost, boo-hoo :-D I must confess I haven’t felt this good in a long time! Why? Because the would-be figure head of neo-liberalism just got her head chopped off at the base! Sooooo glad HRC’s political career is OVER. Oh yes, I’m ‘out of my mind’, but not in the way you imply. To the contrary I’m out of my mind with happiness because that neo-liberal Wall Street global banking military industrial complex witch Clinton is OUT! Go cry me a river asswipe LOL :-D
Then how do you explain the high re-election rate of the very same Congress that is also sold to the highest bidder? I mean, it’s hard to believe that somehow all of Washingon is corrupt yet practically all of them get re-elected. If people really wanted to shake things up, they missed the most obvious target. How can you accept that motive when there was NO shaking up in Congress?
Dude, I don’t know what you’ve been smokin’ but you don’t make any sense. Are you talking to yourself? Sure sounds like it, ’cause nothing you’re saying makes any sense or follows from my post. Let me help you along since you’re obviously lost. Clinton=war with Russia; Wall Street dictating government policy (more privatization, more student debt, charter schools, more military spending, more offshoring of jobs, TPP, etc). Trump is on the record being against the USA being the global police and doesn’t want to go to war with Russia over Syria and Ukraine. Sounds good to me. This thread is about the prez election–not congress. Doh!
You should have done everything to prevent the fascist’s presidency, when it could have made a difference. Now it sounds like crocodile tears. Your first post-election article should have been an apology to the American people for failing to inform them.
No, fuck you Clinton was ( justly) a grossly unpopular candidate, and yetthe DNC insisted on snandbagging the hugely popular candidate who could have won.
There was almost no enthusiasm for the Clinton candidacy. And that’s on her, the DNC and you.
Actually, that’s on all of us, including you, and especially on anyone who haven’t done all to stop Trump,
I didn’t do jack shit to put Trump in power. I worked hard dot put an anti-establishment candidate on the Dem ticket instead of a technnocratic, center-right, warmongering Wall St. whore.
One positive is now the DNC knows it can’t win with neoliberal assholes like her and that Podesta crew. If they want Trump to only have 4 years, they’d better clear their decks and let we horrid “BernieBros” move right in.
This could be a longer-term benefit if it drives a stake into the heart of the “cetnrist,” neolib Democratic swill.
Do you even grasp how far to the right Trump and two Republican houses will take the country, and given that, that what you think of center now would be moved as well? It is more likely that just like Bill Clinton seemed progressive after Reagan, and Obama after Bush II, it is more likely than not that next to Trump, even Jeb Bush would look good.
Besides, must we really go through the worst possible in order to learn?
How far to the right is it now? What party extensively praised Reagan in their convention? What party had a police chief known for using excessive force on peaceful protesters as a speaker? What party had a speaker take the stage and defend Iraq? What party drowned out antiwar chants from delegates?
Much further than it was before Reagan and Bush. let’s talk about it a year from now.
The people did everything possible to stop the continuation of the Fascist presidency they voted against Clinton to elect Trump.Interesting that many states with highly educated University populations went that way too.
Clinton is many things, a lot of them bad. A fascist, however, she is not. If it is true as you say, it would seem that a university degree is no guaranty for wisdom or against arrogant and self righteous stupidity.
Fascism is the merger of state and corporate power.
Fscism is militarisation
Fascism is authoritarianism
I stand by my statement Clinton is a Fascist and so is Obama. Just because some hide under a liberal or socialist disguise they are still fascists.
Actually, fascism is the use of violence or the threat to use violence to achieve political, social, or cultural end.
“the merger of state and corporate power” is called corruption in a democracy.
“militarisation” is distinct from its use, which can be fascistic, but can also be used in self defense.
“authoritarianism” is an hierarchical structure and has nothing to do exclusively with fascism.
The question we are facing is not who Clinton or Obama are, but what should have been done and wasn’t in Trump’s ascension to power.
The DNC only has itself to blame allowing the interests of a concentrated cabal to advance a particular candidate at the exclusion of others. They were delusional and totally myopic not understanding that Hillary Clinton was not generally loved and had way to much baggage to be motivating to the voter base. Bernie was motivating, and sadly marginalized since he was deemed by the interests too idealistic and not willing to deliver the goods. Good job DNC shooting yourself in the foot.
The writer of this article is sure full of venom.
You should thank President Trump as he saved your life.
Hillary would have taken us to war in Syria against nuclear armed Russia.
Sorry. But as bad as Trump may prove to be, I am not about to buy into the implication that Clinton would have been any better. See, the Democrats are closet fascists, and cronyists, and corporatists, and warmongers, while all the while talking a good outward game of racial and gender inclusiveness (as if that is all that one needs to pass for being a “liberal” or “progressive” now days.)
As Chris Hedges has accurately observed: The Democrats may have a better bedside manner than the Republicans, but they are just about as evil as them.
At least with the Republicans, if one is on the left, one knows where one stands: He can see the right wing enemies coming from a mile away and can be prepared to do battle with them.
The Democrats, on the other hand, pretend to be the friends of the antiwar, the working class, those that are outraged by corporate control of our system and country, etc., and then once in power, they STAB THESE AGNEDAS IN THE BACK (e.g., NAFTA and the TPP, refusing to prosecute Bush people for their crimes, bailing out Wall Street and the banks, funding the military industrial complex, Cold War II warmongering, imperialistic interventionism in Venezuela, Honduras, Libya, Ukraine, and Syria, screwing over the environment (anyone remember how Obama came to BP’s rescue during the Deepwater Horizon tragedy, or how Clinton, in leaked e-mails, bragged about pushing fracking all over the world, or the way Hillary has refused to come out in support the Dakota Access Pipeline protestors?) . . . . etc., etc.)
So, go boohoo all you want about how Trump is not going to abide by those sacred pillars of “NPR liberalism” such as racial and gender inclusiveness, pro-choice policies, gay rights, immigrant rights, etc. But so long as losing ground on such “identity politics” issues is the only thing that really bothers you and people like you about a Trump presidency, and so long as you are willing look the other way on the issues I just mentioned that the Democrats fully screw over the left on, then all I can say is that you are a FOOL, you have no credibility with me, and I REJOICE that you are now bemoaning a Trump presidency.
Go and learn what it means to be a true lefty, you privileged, effete white boy.
“Liberals” like you make me want to vomit.
I’m so GLAD Clinton and her neoliberal/corporatist Democrats lost tonight. The sooner this Democratic Party DIES, the sooner the real left can get on with the real business of opposing and defeating the corrupt powers that be.
I hope he thanks the DNC for doing such hard work during the primaries to make sure the candidate he ran against was the only one he could have beaten. Bernie would have beaten him in a landslide.
Interesting times ahead, I weep for the entire world.
Alex, you just don’t get it, . . People HATE Her !
Hillary lost to a reality tv star. Think about that. Gee, isn’t the DNC smart?
And she did it after she and DNC CONSPIRED and CHEATED and RIGGED the primaries to derail a left wing populist (Sanders), who likely would have kicked Trump’s ass in the general election.
Hillary and the DNC made their beds. Let them sleep in them.
But really, on second thought, what do they care? Hillary and her ilk will still hold onto their Georgetown digs, their vacation homes in Martha’s Vinyard, their opulent lifestyles, their obscene wealth and ill gotten gains, and their social networks with world’s most wealthy and powerful.
As many people have observed, those esconsed within the uppermost levels of the Democratic Party hierarchy would rather LOSE to a person like Trump, than WIN with a person like Sanders. This way, they can all still hold on to their privileged, pampered, and well-monied positions, while the financial gravy train continues to roll on for them.
Wake up lefties: The Democratic Party is YOUR ENEMY, and must be opposed . . . just as much as the Republican Party must be opposed.
The Democratic Party is not a REAL opposition party. It just PLAYS ONE on the TV.
the higherups in the USG are a collection of Dumb&Dumbers who calculate that shitting on the public a lot is saving the public from being shit on a lot more.
Well said. I suspect the Usual Suspects will be blamed–the Left, that is.
Yes the elites will blame anyone else rather than taking a long hard, deep look at themselves.
I’ll wait for the Voxplation tomorrow. That should be a hoot.
Shit, that should be “Voxplanation.”
Aww, poor baby.
How to end a nightmare: wake up
