As hundreds of thousands of women and men crowd the streets of Washington and other cities across the globe on Saturday, The Intercept provided updates throughout the day from our reporters on the ground and gleaned from social networks.
Latest update: 5:32 p.m.
Massive Anti-Trump Protests Continue
As the march in Washington winds down, hundreds of thousands of people remain in the streets on the nation’s largest cities, including massive crowds in New York, where Fifth Avenue remains jammed with people, and Los Angeles, where police estimated that at least 500,000 people took part.

Anger at Trump was not, however, confined to the coasts, or even to the United States, with vivid images and video showing protesters filling the streets of cities across the country and around the world. The Intercept will continue to follow the reverberations of this demonstration of Trump’s deep unpopularity in the days ahead, but here are some final glimpses of a remarkable day.

Trump Makes Bizarre Plea to CIA to Accept His Estimate 1.5 Million Attended His Inauguration
Trump has yet to comment on the fact that the National Mall was more crowded for today’s protest than yesterday’s inauguration, but that could be because he is so irked by reports showing that both of Barack Obama’s inaugural addresses were much better attended.
Sign: "Hey @realdonaldtrump: Our march is bigger than yours" 2nd Ave, Manhattan pic.twitter.com/mHpCnNd13N
— Jessica Lustig (@jessicalustig) January 21, 2017
The new president took time to address the issue in a bizarre setting: during a speech to intelligence officers at the CIA on Saturday. Trump insisted that he was the victim of a media conspiracy to misreport the crowd size and assured the spies that, from where stood while addressing the crowd, “it looked like a million, a million and a half people,” were there.

He went on to claim, inaccurately, that the mall was “packed” all the way from the steps of the Capitol to the Washington Monument. One television network “said we drew 250,000 people,” Trump added. “Now, that’s not bad — but it’s a lie.”
In fact, it is a lie to claim that the crowd filled the well-photographed area around the monument, which was packed for Obama’s inauguration in 2009, which drew an estimated 1.8 million people to the mall.

Washington Protest Appears Larger Than Inaugural Crowd

“It was “armchair warriors” who put Trump in the White House. True, the most important of those warriors were busy making up lies and programming bots to spread them”
Please =- show me just ONE MORE PICTURE of these whackadoodle ‘women’ who are ’empowered’ in the discourse! And pass tha’ popcorn. These are nutjob’s according to every definition of nutjob ever.
And- “Slutwalks-” WTF?!
Kill me if I raise daughter that stupid-vaginified, and self involved!
Yup- there’s something kinda “wrong” with focusing young girls on their vaginas as “identity”, no matter how many Title 10 morons, and lesbian gym teachers coach us against insight into the “mystical vaginal formation.”…..Or, Jerry Sandusky, with tits, these people have ruined open discourse, and egalitarianism.
I personally wish these vaginized morons would be convicted, and sent away, to their rightful graves in “bankster bux hall of defamation heaven” tribunals. There’s no humanity in any of them.
And leave my daughter out of it!
@Gil G:
It was “armchair warriors” who put Trump in the White House. True, the most important of those warriors were busy making up lies and programming bots to spread them, but I see no a priori reason to assume that having the truth on one’s side would be a disadvantage for their opponents. I will not criticize those who seek to make a visible “demonstration” of support as a matter of PR, but this is not the 1960s. Which means that you can spread more relevant political information sitting on your ass at home than you can by going down to a literature table and buying a dozen little ‘zines and pamphlets.
At least, you can until the abolition of “Net Neutrality” means that you can’t get through to any of those sites. After that, I’ll see you at the literature table.
I disagree. The comments section on TI is meaningless as a way affecting political change. And armchair warriors are ones who exhort others to “occupy buildings” or take violent action while they sit in their armchair.
This world was better off without the internet. The bulletin board services were more under the radar, but this has been a surveillance state for a very long time.
I can understand protesting against Trump and the new status quo, but what’s with the “we’re not feeling safe” and “my rights are being taken away” sentiments? Isn’t the very fact they’re allowed to protest publicly like that proof both are false?
Besides, these protests look like a lot of very good energies being wasted away. Instead of speaking out against environmental issues or the new regime’s blatant cronyism, these protesters are standing behind a very vague “No to Hate!” rhetoric. It isn’t so much protesting against Trump’s actions as it is protesting against an image of Trump these people have in their minds. This is dangerous – if you bust out the “fascist” and “dictator” slogans right now, what exactly are you going to do if he actually goes out after journalists or whatever?
Gosh..The status-quo establishment protesting against the neo-establishment…wow..another made for media moment..What’s Next?
Uncle_Bob:
“The status-quo establishment protesting against the neo-establishment”
Hell hath no fury like the wrath of white women and the hundreds of millions that mystery money NGO’s and ‘community services’ organizations pay them year after year to parrot and parody the suffering of the ‘others.’
It’s time to bring men back into the equation- I am tired of this 40 year hit parade starring the Vagina Ideologues, and Mother Courage.
Back to the kitchen ladies… there is a new sheriff in town and he going to make America once again GREAT (with a little help from the CIA and military). Someone has to cull the herd!
No Madonna tweets? Well, this post is a testimony that globalists oligarchic supporters of Hillary such as Soros have tons of money to spend. Let’s examine if the money was well spent.
Another phony protest highlighted by Madonna FU Mr. President stunt broadcasted live in CNN who has as much in common with millions of hard working women as Trump, namely nothing.
Karl Marx posited in his famous statement in Critique.. “[it is people] social being that determines their consciousness.”
Madonna has everything in common with Trump even more with Ivanka since they all share their own class conscientiousness of the opulent and they share common their disdain to poor and abandoned women, men and children calling them untalented losers, human trash.
In this late Halloween season of ghostly figures on the Mall, like Madonna, a mask and a costume of righteously indignant Trump hating/Obama loving woman seems to be popular, full of emotions, fearful of loosing partisan cash, desperate trying to resuscitate her dead career of making softporn music videos. Is this a woman who needs our help and support? Is this a woman under Trump threat of loosing her right to abortion or healthcare, while she is living in UK?
What Pelosi has to do with poor women, a wife of a billionaire who makes money of human trafficking of young girls from Vietnam to his Guam’s factories, where thanks to Pelosi there is no equal minimum wage law.
Hate for Trump for his words of insult and demeaning of a human beings and love for Obama who killed women and children during weddings or funerals as collateral damage for better good of the nation of American women.
Who are those so-called activists masters of hypocrisy blaming phony partisanship for cruel acts of this entire abhorrent US regime in a normal course of business of fear, intimidation, murder and mayhem, continuously today as it was last week or last year or decades ago.
What is a professional paid protester/activists, who’s for thirty years doing the same thing, marching to nowhere and shouting to no one, but an accepted by the regime artifact of political fauna of inverted totalitarianism, a controlled opposition, a political lightening rod created and maintained by the regime in order to disperse power of any revolutionary lighting bolts powerful enough to threaten elite of usurpers.
This is what so-called American progressive opposition and their media is all about. The nominally “independent” but in fact controlled one way or another by the regime [here Dems] opposition media are created to proliferate lies of touchy feely activism, standing, waiting to be arrested or hugging trees, futile theatrical happenings, gallons of fake blood, shocking productions to Hollywood likening, as supposedly an effective political tool instead of promoting real industrial blockades, occupation strikes, a physical action, aiming at what oligarchy hurts most, their direct money interests and overblown egos.
Why not make Soros to pay for reproductive health of all women in the US or Buffet or Gates? Let them help women and not just pay a pittance for meaningless Hollywood spectacles leading to nowhere but to dead end. However, “progressive” media in fear of loosing their paychecks stays silenced about so obvious truths.
At best so-called opposition media is a flawed messaging tool used to suppress instead of augment authentic people movements and their successes, that’s all.
People must have sufficient, honest, devoid of monetary or political interest, support in media they own so they can understand what is happening to them in this world who is behind the calamitoes they are suffering under and that the world they experience is directly shaped by the power elite, as William Godwin posits:
“We need to consider, that “politics and modes of government will educate and infect us all.”(Godwin, Book I,4) We need to understand that indeed government conduct has intellectual, moral, psychological, and emotional consequences for its citizens”
Not to mention obvious devastating economic consequences of inherent immorality of ruling class to which Clinton, Pelosi, Madonna, Trump and more “real “actors of this political farce for mass consumption, all happily belong and whose orders they follow.
So what we have been left with after decades of supposedly soliciting support for causes or victims of the regime via distasteful fundraising practices, stand up progressive comedian shows, epoch costume balls or parties, or donations for poor collected with visa/MC credit cards that benefit perpetrators of crimes more than their victims, theatrical happenings serving as street entertainment for activists and opposition elites viciously competing for Nobel and other Wall Street funded prices and money associated with them. Nothing.
After over two decades of wider spread “independent” press paid by Goggle ads and Advertising Ages, free speech claiming TV, radio programming funded by Wall Street owned foundations and featuring re-born billionaires teaching the poor ecology, even political electoral activity of third parties who never question foundations of this calcified regime, and massive fleecing of young and gullible mostly poor donors supposedly in opposition to this abhorrent Wall Street run oligarchic regime, it’s time for them to admit a total failure in their stated goals and let younger truly independent, straightforward, no gimmicks, no innuendos, no fakery, deeply grounded in common reality, people to end this awful sham of American progressive left that never was after 1919.
We must finally put down this fake and dying liberal-left opposition for–profit industry, that tragically now stooped so low by openly pushing criminals into political office and that is beginning to resemble a high IQ, low pay version of right-wing corporate media nuts and their lunatic corporate and political establishment masters.
We need young people who are unplugged from virtual, digital illusions and are acutely aware of immediacy and gravity of the situation and unbearable pain and suffering of millions of American man and women that must be alleviated immediately.
We need new people who will end current high school picnic atmosphere of begging for mercy from the regime, passing as an opposition street protest, and instead will be instilling fear within ruling elites anytime people pour into the streets and demand criminal and political accountability of the powers and proclaim restoration of their stolen unalienable rights of everyone to finally bury this insidious oligarchic ploy of identity politics use aa band aid over bloody class war.
We need new working class men and women without any old political baggage or social connections to the regime to be heard and not be censored or blocked by left leaning media run by more or less disgruntled former courtiers of American political establishment who had “change of heart” or otherwise a gravy train of power and money on its way into madness and oblivion, passed them by.
Now it is time to go for old progressive elites, before they find themselves not agents for change but severe impediment to it, a political cancer that needs to be surgically removed.
We need new people who would not make again a mistake of older generation of progressives believing that any positive change for 99% could be ever achieved by submitting to a rigged political process and who openly reject it and embrace extra political, extra constitutional means to assert their unalienable rights as human beings, a right to self organization of their own society devoid of oligarchic repression and exploitation and to discard this horrendous regime as a whole as a inhumane immoral monstrous structure that needs to be destroyed, not just replaced with something temporary with deceitful ploy of showing supposedly more human resembling face of the murderous regime as was done many times before.
“At best so-called opposition media is a flawed messaging tool used to suppress instead of augment authentic people movements and their successes”
No species on the face of he earth has more subverted the letter and intent of the Constitution than that brand of international feminism that seeks privilege, at the expense of truth.
And Operation Mockingbird, of course. Can’t leave out all those squawking parrots trying so hard to look like Gloria.
My best guess is that Kissinger’s love juice laid a powerful seed in Gloria’s mouth, and the spawn of that is all of these ’empowered’ women from the internationale’.
“No, pretty please- say VAGINA just ONE MORE TIME!! More Vagina, more vagina, more vagina!!!!”
Then: sound of cowbell, followed by clanking of Mother Courage and her children.
Are the women depicted in the “Hope not Fear” poster, above, dead? They look dead.
And dead (at least temporarily) is what TI’s servers are going to be, along with the browsers of many visitors, if you keep filling the page with an endless stream of embedded tweets and graphics (and other crap that slows page loading to a crawl — I haven’t bothered to sort through the random fragments to try to identify everything).
it took me 5 minutes just to get to the comments. it reminded me of those ads soupy sales did for jello on his show.

GEEZ it’s like the TV NEWS !!
Color me skeptical! I queried 123 women protesters in the Seattle march, a random sampling up and down the age scale, and not a single one had ever heard of Mavis Leno.
Just how serious about women’s rights can they be?
Reminds me of that national immigration march (both of them) a few years back, organized by Spanish language radio stations which just happened to be owned by the Blackstone Group (Peter G. Peterson and Schwartzman, the founders, but the seed money was Rockefeller).
Both times it knocked the story of warrantless wiretapping off the national news, and both times AT&T congratulated Sen. Jay Rockefeller profusely!

Clinton, Trump and American exceptionalism:

Over a thousand people marched here in the Carbondale, IL area, including some Independents and Greens.
Carbondale? Isn’t that where dinosaurs were once found? I think the Patriarchosaurus iss a relic well worth seeing in ay museum.
Meantime- have you noticed the massive prison industrial complex, and the vast surveillance state that these women built on the memetic of ‘someone looked at me in an elevator just after 10p.m.
“RAPE!!!” ?
I think if they have so much free time on their bloody hands, they could put some time into that….or would that be too ‘retro feminist’ from the days before the dinosaurs died?
PLEASE OFFER GOOGLE AS ANOTHER WAY TO SEND YOUR GREAT WRITINGS. OUTLOOK SOMETIMES SUCKS!
Meanwhile, the Democrats in the Senate, including Sanders and Warren — actually, including all of them who were present and voting, with the exception of Gillibrand — joined the Republicans in approving the nomination of Mad Dog Mattis for Secretary of “defense.”
Senate confirms Trump generals to head Pentagon, Homeland Security
I have to say I’m a little surprised at how unconcerned people seem to be that a guy who has uttered so many deeply-twisted statements and remarks, including the following, has been almost-unanimously confirmed as SecDef.
I don’t think marching about, wearing pink, vaguely proclaiming “resistance” and then going home is going to help stop outrages like the above. At the very least, these people should consider occupying the Capitol building and presenting a specific list of demands.
“I don’t think marching about, wearing pink, vaguely proclaiming “resistance” and then going home is going to help stop outrages like the above. ”
I think the womans day marchers are making a significant statement. Certainly will accomplish more than posting in the comments section on TI. What buildings are you planning on occupying?
Do you? Could you tell us what that statement is?
Unless you’re a lot older than I think you are, I was occupying buildings, being tear-gassed, arrested and jailed before you were born. Given age and health issues, mass protest isn’t really an option for me these days. I fight the battles in other ways and one of them is certainly posting here.
Now, fuck off, you nasty hasbara troll..
The statement they are making is that they wont be silent while Trump moves the country towards facism. I was around in the sixties I dont remember seeing you occpying the Capitol building. Would the marchers have been more effective had they been tear gassed? I think I can safely say the marchers today had an impact. Your postings on the other hand, not so much. Actually not anything. I have an issue with armchair warriors calling for others to put their ass on the line while they stay home.
why were they silent when obama did?
Why was who silent when obama did what?
the whole article is about large protests in various cities. i don’t blame you for not reading it, though.
Did you read the part that said it was a WOMENS march. Did Obama represent a threat to WOMENS rights?
ummm, only their right to food that actually nourished the immune system while it feeds the body. He passed the Monsanto Protection Act, the Cures Act which removes informed consent, and he wrote some really scary ass executive orders before leaving, but nobody cares, and it will not be only women who are impacted. BTW next time you eat seedless anything or see coverage of dead bees, birds, and butterflies..without which no pollination of crops can happen that stuff was all PRE TRUMP, but Americans are too sick and ocd from all the legal crops changes, legal ag chems, and the pesticides among other things to really care and make a difference in any of it…so, Obama hurt women by deporting their husbands in record numbers for unpaid traffic tickets and driving without insurance. He helped push through the most aggressive vaccines mandates in the history of vaccination and the USA. He signed the Cures Act.
yes, women and children and males of military age who may or may not have had ties to people who don’t like the us invading their countries. but i guess only some americans count.
So if they didnt come to protest in support of your agenda they cant protest theirs? And what exactly is your agenda? You dont like “liberals” , what do you call yourself?
Says GilGollum, the champion of women- women who might/could/ought to/ or should become as infatuated with his clipped putz as he is, before he moves on to the next one- or maybe, just “blows in the wind.”
You guys are virtually the slaughterers every time your version of social justice culls a herd for slaughter- and you somehow, NEVER champion men’s rights- prolly cuz you aren’t one yet, nor ever will be based o your own calculus of mommy issues.
Which reminds me of Adam Sandler’s lack of a life, somehow, or his shtick about ‘ show me your cock-n-balls.”
Doug Salzmann: “and one of them is certainly posting here”
Here, here, indeed.
I wonder how they will manage to keep their ‘statement’ noticeable for when/if he actually does.
I dont know. But it doesnt mean they should not of made the statement today.
Any idea why Sanders and Warren went along with this?
They were made an offer they could not refuse ?
That’s a line from The Godfather .
Loosely translated it means “Take it or Else ! ”
And the Else ain’t a happy ending .
Because they aren’t really opposed to it. Just as is the case with all the others.
Anyone who has believed that either of those two is truly opposed to our military adventurism has been conned. Admittedly, Sanders, especially, has been running a very convincing con, for a long time, on this issue.
I ,, personally think ,, old Bernie just ran out of gas .
He’s fought the fight since I can remember . He was on the streets of Chicago with us in 1968 . This Warren broad is a post boomer and I have watched that crowd for more than half a century . They are just a bunch of— ” IF I JUST HAD MORE MONEY THINGS WOULD BE BETTER ” —-droids .
not to mention she was a republican until sometime in the 90’s. so, ok with the military adventurism of nixon, kissinger and reagan. sad to hear bernie voted for this.
I wish the organizers luck and kudos on organizational skills to bring off such a one day of protest. After seeing the pictures of democratic party lawmakers and leaders giving speeches, I am sorry to say, reminded me of the anti-war movement during the Bush regime.
There was an anti-war movement, and many democrats were part it. But when the democrats took the House and White House especially, suddenly war was not such a bad thing with Obama in office. And the anti-war movement collapsed and we see the end result–in the last 2 years Obama has drooped over 50,000 bombs on Muslim dominated countries (with NATO dropped about 30,000 bombs on Libya). (I think OWS was violently put down because the movement refused to be co-opted by the democratic party right before the election.)
And with the eventually co-opting of the The March by the democrats as they are after all the only serious contender for opposition party, they will only go so far with women’s rights as long as it does not mess with their corporate and elite masters (Hillary’s reported pick for HHS was Neera Tanden who advised Clinton not to support $15/hr min. wage as an example).
Where were all these women when Bill Clinton was in office?
C’mon, perhaps they weren’t even born or in pampers…. get some perspective before you type.
I refuse to believe you are this idiotic.
Let’s rephrase, “where were all these women when Hilary Clinton was readying to bring Bill Clinton (as a First Husband) back to the White House?
That’s a lot of people. They should actually demand something. I’m honestly not sure what they want, unless it’s just attention. Can someone start a No More War chant? Admittedly it would be Obama’s wars they’d be protesting, but Trump hasn’t mentioned stopping them, so it would still be relevant.
It’s not always the case that when a lot of people go to the trouble to organize something, and then a lot of people show up to be a part of that, that there is nothing at all to it. Kind of derelict of you, someone who is usually quite astute, to have seemingly not even bothered to read what the organizers had already published.

Bla Bla Bla……
Well put !
Don’t try and shit higher than your ahole ,, it messes up the place . Keep to simple retorts !
There you go again Mudfart with that nasty mouth of yours.
That all seems like too much of an abstract goal to me, and a waste of gathering such momentum. But I guess I was right that they simply wanted attention (for now). I believe this could have been far more productive, personally, if specific demands today were made – demands about which the marchers would threaten civil disobedience if not met. But thanks for the link to the vague statement.
How were you right about them just waning attention? Are all protest marches that dont involve threats of civil disobedence a waste of time? Do you have any plans for taking direct action yourself?
According to their statement “…we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore,” and this implies wanting attention. And certainly, all protest marches that don’t involve specific demands as well as threats of civil disobedience are indeed a waste of time, in my opinion – something I learned as a sixteen year old observing Occupy Wall Street.
People dont wake up at 4 am spend all day on a bus to be one of hundreds of thousands because they are looking for individual attention. I suggest you do some reading on the marches held during the civil rights movement and the vietnam war before you rely strictly on your observations as a 16 year old. And i am still interested in hearing about your direct action
I said nothing about individual attention, merely about the attention desired for these (to my mind) unfocused en masse events. And anything I do to challenge the establishment is none of your business unless I decide to make it so.
The Civil Rights and anti-war protests of the 60s were far more focused, from what I’ve read. Even the tea-party were more agenda-driven. This today is as troublingly vague as the Occupy Movement, which lost its phenomenal momentum quite quickly.
Nice patronizing, though. Well done being such a stereotypical know-it-all.
Dont know it all. Just know enough not to criticise the way folks are peacefully protesting when Im just sitting on my ass. If you said you disagreed with what they were protesting that would be one thing. Discounting the people who made an effort as wasting their time as lacking focus is petty. Writing in the comments section of TI is hardly challanging the establishment.
I’ll criticize whoever I wish to criticize, regardless of your pomposity.
Not challanging your right to criticise, just your reasoning. If you cant defend your position you are still allowed to take it.
lol
How gracious, impertinent and willfully churlish of you!
I’ve explained my reasoning clearly, your miscomprehension notwithstanding.
Incidentally, ‘criticize’ is spelled with a ‘z’ unless you’re Canadian or British, and you might wish to learn to use apostrophes in words like “can’t.”
See, I can be pompous, too!
Your not being pompous, your just being the spelling police. And you did explain your reasoing, its just that you couldnt defend your stance and attack me personally instead. I plead guilty to being a poor speller. When i post on my phone i leave out apostrophes. Feel free to criticise me for it.
By God, your spelling is getting worse by the post! I shall tease you no more lest you become entirely incomprehensible.
In a way we are the captains of our commenting aircraft, but you shall forever be my remembered rival for the position of Pompous Pilot. C’est la vie…
Thanks. On the other hand you will blend in with the others i have encountered on TI who can not provide a cogent argument when their ideas are challanged.
You speak raspberries of nonsense like a deflating balloon and yet accuse others of not being cogent! Try not to appear so ill-educated and ridiculous next time, if you don’t want to be mocked for misspelling, fatuous thinking and general incoherence..
I pleaded guilty to being a poor speller. So mock away Ms spelling police if thats what gets you off. Just let me know when you are able to defend your point.
Your persistent and foolish claim that I’ve not been perfectly clear and explanatory is not borne out by your petulant repetition of the claim. Far from it, in fact. Nor does repeating that your spelling is poor remotely excuse your not ameliorating it with effort.
Plus, it’s ‘challenged’ with an ‘e.’ Realize that it’s hard to take someone seriously who consistently can’t spell. Especially when that person persists with the mistakes after being corrected.
Watch out Trump, or the marchers will march again for no discernible reason!
Get a grip.
And in the time between the marches the brave radicals will still have done nothing but post objections on the internet. And objections that they still havent thought out well enough to defend.
It’s party time, and now I’m going to forget what a silly evening I’ve had indulging your goofiness. You’re going to have to imagine my responses from this point on.
To help in this, feel free to make a sentence out of the following:

yes i remember when dr. king took on the issues of class and warmongering. that was back when people who identified themselves as liberals didn’t support america’s imperial adventures. clearly king would not have supported
many of obama’s foreign and domestic policies. thanks for the reminder.
And your point is what? That the protests today are not valid because you suspect dr King wouldnt support many of Obama’s poliies?
I remember when radicals accused Dr. King of being an uncle Tom and too moderate for not wanting to overthrow the govt.
my point is that i didn’t see the issues of class and warmongering addressed, as dr king did. if you want to bring up the example of the marches against the vietnam war and for civil rights, you should be aware that many of the leaders of those marches, at the time, would have been appalled at today’s democrats. some since have been coopted by the very establishment they protested against.
Dr. King did not speak out against the Vietnam war until 1967. Are you saying the protests he held before that were invalid? Or were you unaware of that ? His good friend and associate John Lewis is still alive and took part in the Womens March. I believe he has a much better handle on what Dr. King would have approved of than you.
in all the examples of diversity, i didn’t see anything about class, unless it’s subsumed under equal rights somewhere. if the trump opposition can start addressing that more, they may get somewhere; if they just double down on clinton campaign themes, probably not. some acknowledgement of the damage the obama and clinton administrations have done to black and brown people domestically and abroad would strengthen their case against trump, too.
What’s your great and self righteous difference or definition between what they did and what you, standing on the sidelines, are excoriating them for supposedly haven not done: “if specific demands today were made –…”
I’m actually embarrassed for you coming on with that empty crap. Millions of people all over the world showed up. I’ve been critical of certain mass marches in the past; specific example being one organized by 350.org, because they are sometimes as empty as you’re trying to claim that this one was. This one was pretty fucking good, and extremely well attended, and it was accomplished on the very first day of what promises to be one of the most ugly narcissistic led administrations ever to have existed in the United States. And that is saying, as you know, one hell of a lot.
You find it sufficient for some reason, and I find it largely vain and pointless.
I don’t see what difference large amounts of people mean unless they openly challenge the workings of the Deep State itself, particularly if no specific immediate goals are articulated by the masses. I honestly don’t see why Trump can’t just ignore this when it winds down, or even find it to some degree useful (in Fox News terms) to keep bolstering his “side” against “the liberals” – making the divisions useful to the establishment across the nation even more pronounced. I think Trump already knows loads of people hate him, and he seems to thrive on dismissing that rather than trying to reach out or changing at all.
Please don’t be embarrassed for me. It’s okay for us to disagree.
“I believe this could have been far more productive, personally, if specific demands today were made – demands about which the marchers would threaten civil disobedience if not met. But thanks for the link to the vague statement.”
Sorta like humanitarian intervention, eh …
More Action! 500,000 people is fine but they could have done so much more! …
blec
Just an note about the first paragraph which starts “The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us ….”
After Clinton’s defeat, many people began discussing how race, class, and gender impacted the election. Really, this started with Bernie’s left insurgency which Clinton and her supporters accused of being racist and sexist. And that first paragraph is in effect part of manifesto in a way that carries those arguments forward and says race matters, and not class. No hint of poor working class women (which implies in these times white women).
Very strange: “We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. ” Leadership? As in we need more privileged white women in CEO positions? We need more female managers at Walmart so they too could exploit workers? I take that as a sop to Clinton and having a female president.
Now having written all this, I think attack Trump is an anti-feminist (much more effective than running against Putin) will be an effective tactic but at the same time it will looks like it can be derailed by divisive internal politics, and also using Clinton as some sort of madonna of the movement.
We have to go to another country to find decent coverage of the inauguration.

Brainwashed manhaters and Cucks descend on DC with vile and disgusting messages. Great Saturday entertainment!
No wonder Bangkok Thailand has become the World’s number one tourist destination for Western men fleeing these manhating walkers. Indeed superb entertainment though, what a hoot!
If it’s Rootepetoot V. you’re looking for, he doesn’t hang out here.
The rise of “cuck” as an insult is confounding. Projecting much? Why quietly nurse your insecurities when you can patrol the comments section, blasting them and swinging your digital d around all day, I suppose. Hopefully someone is paying you for the trouble, at least.
Isn’t that cuuute…he says “cuck”.
He’ll call the men who were present “white knights” next…
Nope just Cucks.
I don’t get some of your lingo–what’s a “cuck?” It all looked like innocent fun to me. Maybe you need to get out more.
A cuck, short for “Cuckold” is a man who enjoys watching another man having sex with his wife, or simply an emasculated man. Does that help? Maybe you should get out a little more.
Why do Marxists believe that women and black people are not allowed to have their own opinions as individuals again?

Where is Hillary?! She goes to the inauguration but stays home during people’s march. Not unlike his campaign.
Hillary is in Hillary-Land . The one ride she’ll never be let on is “EL HEFE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ” !!
Boo , hoo ,,,,,poor Hillary !
“Where is Hillary?! ”
Probably passed-out drunk.
Hillary is not human in the way of a sociopath.
How many women and children died in Libya alone?
she and bill are making lives better for millions across the globe through the clinton foundation. oh wait…
Amazing how they claim to be women, and how they can afford the time effort and money for this march on Trump, but I wonder how many have spent one minute, one dime,or any effort marching on the schools their children attend to stop them from being subjected to transgenderism, homosexuality, lies and deception, the breaking up of the family unit, and much more. Shame on them for calling themselves women and mothers and ignoring the important things and playing the game of the Puppet masters.
Given that many of the marchers probably voted for Mr. Trump, this seems a little early to be demonstrating remorse. It seems that Mr. Trump’s honeymoon with the voters didn’t even last one day. It’s going to be a rocky marriage.
Given that…probably, this seems. It seems…. Benito you begin to sound like a MSM journalist.
Hey ,,,Voice from Europe ,,, Benny is our Sarcasm Expert .
Sarcasm based on assumption is just BS…..
In case you don’t understand sarcasm :
Sarcasm uses the opposite of fact to attack the fact .
Put that in your bean !!!
The opposite of fact has no place for ‘probably’ ‘it seems’….. Benito seems to understand what I meant, you probably still don’t.
I’ve really got to cut down on reading articles by Mr. Mackey.

Its a shame these morons that have no respect for democracy didn’t get out and march against the fake, and criminal Obama administration with its wars of profit. If they had protested long ago against Globalisation, rising inequality and corporate tax cheating the USA wouldn’t be in the mess it is now. There protesting is totally irrelevant now anyway.
The irony is that you don’t even realize how brainwashed and insane you sound. Just because you are assume you are right doesn’t make it so You are the one who needs to get over it and let people speak how every they want. You don’t see how blind obedience is a bad thing? You are either insane or someone who is extremely short sighted
Exactly my thoughts on this matter. I am a bit harsher–I saw so many people with zero class or sex consciousness out marching today, only so they could say they went to X march. This is a social gathering. There was no real organisation, no ethos. Even women were sidelined from a march ostensibly for their own issues.
This is neoliberalism at its finest.
I appreciate the posting format, as I don’t do Facebook. I confess I do not quite get this women’s march happening. Some signs say ‘democracy in action.’ Well so was the election of Trump; fail to see how the march is more democratic than thou? It’s amazing so many people can protest, as we’ve seen little when Obama and Clinton destroyed the nation state of Libya, reneging on the mandate for a
no-fly-zone; they immediately decided upon bombing Libyan military and kicking to death a head of state on CIA video, upon which seeing Hillary laughed. That observation alone would have made me vote against her, but my vote was galvanized upon reading Wiliam Blum’s blog site on the difference between Hillary’s and Trump’s foreign policy positions.
Assembly and petition for grievances are in the Constitution; ‘protests’ are silent, and we have the protests of the revolutionaries shortly after that first war, that were put down post haste, that reflects the intent of the framers, or so it would seem. Though they were hardly foundationalists as Scalia was and
Trump promises to appoint. Why doesn’t Intercept write about that contradiction?
Women didn’t march when Obama droned people in any country he liked, killing scores of civilians, no problema senor! Did they march after Bush41 had his merry atrocitiy of bogus 1991 war against Iraq, or the bogus 2003 war against Iraq again by Jr? Did they protest when Clinton caused the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi infants and children by sanctions and bombed the only baby formula plant in Iraq for good measure? Did they? Or when he destroyed Yugoslavia, a CIA prelude to both Libya, Ukraine Maidan v. democratic government and supporting Al Qaeda and even ISIS in Syria when it served the purposes of the ‘exceptionalist, indepensiblist, elitist globalist empire of chaos? No, these women found no motivation to protest any of the above.
But they are out in magnitudes, and why? Because the war mongering Clinton,
said to be a female by some criteria of biology, lost the election? Rights to abortion, fine, but that will be decided in the courts; and isn’t it about time women learned how to use birth control rather than rely upon abortion? Isn’t there a ‘morning after pill,’ maybe women should all keep some in their purses if they cannot get their consorts to use condoms? As for LGBT, it’s a movement not unlike the hippie movement or the Xian fundamentalist movement, or pro war mongering movement, that proceeded it, and children ought not be proselytized into having to decide sex orientation as a free choice, which is another bogus concept, as every philosopher from
William James to Alan Watts has explained. No, I still do not understand what is so precious as to bring millions of women to their feet and streets, after the
morally decrepit Hillary Clinton lost Elizabeth Warren’s one chance of being president! Meanwhile Tulsi Gabbard, reviled w vitriol by Dem and GOP senators alike, is doing the real work of statesperson, and well on her way to
the possibility of being first woman president one day. Finally as for marching
for hordes of Mexicans’ economic migration putsch, people are decidely against mass migration, as European countries are presently demonstrating v.
Mideastern war refugees thanks to Uncle Sam’s defense contractors prerogative. Pres Johnson wanted to send family planning to Mexico in 1968,
but the bible believers wouldn’t have it, and then 100 million Mexicans were born, and 60 million and counting of them are now in the US. And of course labor migration as well as capital migration have been the tactics of the globalist elites, who can think of nothing to do, so bored they are, but to accumulate more billions and then play God like Bill Gates — all these women should pause and genuflect to demigod Gates!
It’s fun watching the left become totally irrelevant.
Love the logic of the first few commenters here.
The right has been waging a steady war against gender equality – but it’s the ones POINT THIS OUT who are the problem…
And if you can’t play the Male vs Female then go to Left vs Right !~
Ain’t that right Rich ? Or is it that Left ?
I must concede, the right’s Whites vs Everybody plan has been far more effective.
So ,, is EVERYBODY not Everybody ? What the hell are you talkin about Ric ?
The left has been waging a war against women. Midwives are being asked not to refer to a “woman” in terms of pregnancy because this could hurt the feelz of a transgender “man” (who is pregnant), lesbians are being told to sleep with transwomen or else be labelled transphobic. This has been going on for many years now and is every bit as outrageous at the right’s moves to outaw abortion and cancel sex ed classes. Both sides are very guilty of their own form of purging.
Jill Stein is the true advocate of women, NOT hillary, wake up women!
Pathetic.
Ah yes ,,
Mr. Mack . You are going back to that Male Vs Female tried and proven formula of Jerry Springer Journalism . I suspect you’ll get a lot of clicks with it .
Men were welcome on this march aswell, so I’m not sure where you got male vs female in this authors article. Perhaps if Trump & the rest of the GOP would stay out of a woman’s uterus & treated them with the respect & equality they deserve, not talk about grabbing women’s “pussies”, less women would find Trump offensive.
