It’s strange how some things really catch on and go viral, and others don’t. These days, nothing quite makes a story blow up — no pun intended — like the president’s fixation with it. That’s why it’s so peculiar that what sure looks like an attempted terrorist attack was narrowly thwarted at an American airport this past Friday without so much as a peep from Donald Trump about it. No tweets. No nicknames for the alleged would-be terrorist. Nothing. You’ll see why in a minute.
This past Friday morning, at 12:39 a.m., security footage from the Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina showed a man walking through the front doors wearing black clothing and a black cap, while carrying a bag. “Based on a review of the video, the individual walked near the entrance to the terminal, went out of sight momentarily, and was then seen departing the area without the bag,” according to the criminal complaint.
Following the Transportation Security Administration’s protocols, airport security allowed a bomb dog to sniff the bag for explosives, and the dog signaled to the team the presence of dangerous materials in the bag. The concourse was then shut down. The street leading to the airport was shut down. And Asheville Regional Airport officials found themselves in a dangerous emergency situation.
What investigators eventually found in the bag was AN/FO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil) explosives that, according to the criminal complaint, have been used “in a number of terrorist-related incidents around the world. When AN/FO comes into contact with a flame or other ignition source, it explodes violently. Nails or ball bearings are often items added to the device so as to increase the devastation inflicted by the explosion.”
In fact, sharp nails and bullets were found in this improvised explosive device. Whoever built it designed the bomb to cause horrific bodily harm. Before disarming it, authorities discovered that the alarm attached to it was scheduled to go off at 6:00 that morning just as a fresh round of travelers was scheduled to arrive at the airport.
The man who planted it, it turns out, openly admitted to authorities that he was “preparing to fight a war on U.S. soil” and that this bomb was but one part of that war.
I bet you never heard about it. I keep an eye on these types of incidents closely, and I didn’t hear about it. Someone who follows me online who happens to live in Asheville sent me the story this morning — shocked that it hadn’t gotten any play at all beyond a few mentions in the local paper and some isolated pickup by a few national outlets.
As soon as I clicked on the article, it all made perfect sense.
The story didn’t go viral and Trump didn’t tweet about it because the bomb was not placed by an immigrant, or a Muslim, or a Mexican. It was placed there by a good ol’ white man, Michael Christopher Estes. Unlike the Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, whose motive is still hard to discern, Estes wanted to be very clear that his ultimate goal was to accelerate a war on American soil.
Sorry if it sounds like you’ve heard this story before. I’m as tired of writing it as you are reading it, but you know good and well that if Estes was a young Muslim — hell, if he had ever even visited a mosque in the past 25 years — that Trump would be tweeting about him right this very moment to tout how essential a Muslim ban is for American safety.
A Muslim attacker’s mugshot would become a meme across the conservative media. Mainstream American outlets would be covering the heroic bravery of those who thwarted the terrorist plot. We’d all be seeing footage of the perpetrator being walked from the police car to the jail and from the jail to the court room. Out loud, people would talk and tweet about the man’s family and friends and networks — wondering where he was radicalized, and if anyone else feels the way he does.
In this case, though? Crickets. We hear nothing at all — almost exclusively because the man who planted an improvised explosive device, just like ones that have been used to murder and maim people all over the world, was white. His guilt starts and stops with him. His actions aren’t an indictment of his whole faith, political outlook, and race. White people aren’t, thanks to Estes, suddenly labeled terrorists or seen as a threat to American safety in the way that would almost certainly happen had it been anybody other than a white man.
This isn’t me calling for all of those things that happen to Muslims and immigrants every single day to now happen to Estes and white people all over the country. It’s me saying that the fundamentally bigoted double standard by which it is done to virtually everyone except for Michael Christopher Estes and other white men has to stop.

This one is a real, bona fides loony-toons killer, the kind the Prez and all his evil minions are terrified of, seems as they are made of the same squishy stuff as the rest of us.
This guy represents the actual amount of real terrorism in the world – the occasional nut-job, not the fake-plastic-terrorists-for-hire running around the world right now.
All the others are staged events to terrify us, not them. They do not actually want real loose-cannon killers really killing. If they can’t control the dialogue then it gets shut down.
Geddit?
Mr. King appears to be confusing skin color with religious affiliation. People of many shades of color claim Islam as their religion. The horrific terrorist attacks here and around the world over the last 30 years have been attributed to Islamic terrorists, not in part because they have claimed responsibility and openly vow to kill the Infidels. So are not some Muslims light colored, others not so much? Sorry Shaun, your rant is a striking example of apples to oranges.
You have to also consider that you may not have heard about it just because local authorities were eager to keep it quiet. I have seen towns that work very hard to hide any stories of violence that may occur there because they do not want their community associated with that story or for their citizens to think the community is not perfect and safe.
There was a wealthy community near me that has tried to sweep drug busts and even a murder under the rug just to prevent any bad press.
And, if even locally there were only a few mentions in the local paper, that could be a contributing factor to why no one heard about this case.
This involves the TSA and charges have been filed on a federal level. This goes beyond a local community.
“The Intercept”? Your common sense and decency must have been “intercepted”. Let me help you, tin-foil-hat-wearing communist. your argument: trump didn’t want it reported because the guy is white. So trump controls the press? And he demands they print nasty lies about him constantly WHILE demanding they not report this? OUTRAGEOUSLY stupid, even at face value.
And now for a FAR more plausible explanation: the scumbag is a leftist (communist antifa?) and the leftist press didn’t want to alert people to the abject failure of the plot of a leftist. This is the 100yr anniversary of the EVIL SCUMBAG COMMIES taking over Russia, and subsequently murdering TENS OF MILLIONS. THAT is leftism, and THAT is how it plays out EVERY…SINGLE…TIME. The communists of antifa (fascists) have made noise about a “revolt” 4NOV. I hope their average combatant is as moronic as this tard, so they will be crushed quickly. You need to be on meds, shaun king. You do NOT deal well with reality.
Wow, a perfectly stereotypical unhinged, uninformed, right wing lunatic rant. We even see here classic projection that properly belongs with the author – who’se the one who’s clearly “off his meds.” I’d have said “good job”, except he left out Chemtrails. Pity, it was otherwise grade A work.
It does get a bit tiring, though, to hear the same old confusion (giving benefit of doubt that we’re not just seeing stupidity) of dictatorship with “communism”, the same couldn’t-be-more-wrong claim of a leftist media, the same ignorance of what fascism is, but then I guess these are the features that make it so stereotypical. Interesting, though, to see a claim that “anti-fascists” are in fact fascists, though it’s also true that those who named antifa don’t actually know the proper definition of fascism and are instead conflating it with a particular version of it better known as Naziism. (Fascism is the conflation or merger of state and business power, however achieved. Musolini said it was perhaps better called “Corporatism.”)
I wonder if such rants actually convince anyone of anything – other than, of course, that such misguided people who can deliver such a rant are still out there.
You don’t seem to deal with truth very well, or actually not at all. No, Trump doesn’t control the media, he just believes they’re all against him and controlled by the left which is just as ludicrous an assertion. As for your “FAR more plausible explanation,” it is quite plainly ridiculous. So the nasty Leftist Press all got together and decided to sit on this story. Bloody stupid, how the hell would that happen? I’ve worked in the media and that just doesn’t occur. I suppose you believe anything said on Fox News is the gospel truth, though.
I guess from your point of view that it’s a real shame Joe McCarthy is dead because if enough people like you who are paranoid about, as you put it ” EVIL SCUMBAG COMMIES” he could put another witch hunt committee together, and maybe you could even be part of it. You seem to be indoctrinated enough to find a commie under every bed and behind each closet door.
Tell me, what angry lies are you referring to? The truth is Trumps is mentally ill. Narcissism, OCD, paranoia, a delusional sociopath. He sees people as items to be used and then discarded when they cease to be useful to him. Take a good look at Trump’s past as a businessman.” He defrauds, steals, manipulates and he has been a racist all of his life, indoctrinated as a white supremacist at the feet of his father.
And this is the poor excuse for a man you seem to worship.
I liked the part where mr king stated he’s tired of writing from a race based lens. That was a good one. Thanks for the laugh
What is this? Buzzfeed, Vox, Vice? Nonsense argument. If the guy were Muslim….blah, blah, blah. Paddock is/was a white guy and we heard plenty about the Vegas incident. Talk about ‘reaching’ or ‘grasping at straws’. A better angle at reporting would be to investigate as to why the story regarding this alleged incident was kept quiet and write about that instead of your virtue signalling drivel.
This article = Conjecture.
But, it sure brought out the right wing lunatic commenters!
There was also 2 pipe bombs at a civil war reenactment yesterday that he did not tweet about. Does that mean he supports the person who placed them and therefore is against the civil war and confederate flag? Idiot
This mirrors my experience in a midwestern airport, picking up an arriving passenger, in the early 2000’s. Her concourse was finally shut down altogether after the dogs were taken in, after several sweeps by security. I finally found out which concourse her flight had diverted to, and upon arriving there, people were getting agitated by their long waits and the relative chaos. I asked a couple of them if they knew WHY it was like this. Nope. Nothing had been communicated to other travelers and their contacts. We watched the news that night. FINALLY there was a very brief little blip at the very end of the broadcast when most ppl had turned it off, showing footage of the remote bomb device being sent to a distant part of the airport for detonation. So, yeah, it wasn’t a hoax at all.
A couple of days later, I flew out. I had a plane transfer in KC, and if you flew there back then, you’ll recall that the layout of the airport requires TSA checks to even change planes. They did a thorough job, and I complimented them, based upone the “…bo-… Well, that thing we’re not supposed to talk about in TSA checkpoints…” The officer asked me to explain and after I did, she called over her supervisor so I could repeat it. THE SUPERVISOR didn’t even know that an airport directly connected to their own had had an incendiary device detonated less than a half-week prior! So, I wonder ever since then: if the TSA doesn’t communicate actual threats any more than that, why are the passengers treated like criminals before they’ve even been checked out?
Ou that smell, can’t you smell that smell? Race is a curiosity at best, insanity at worst but it is MYTHICAL. It exists only in your mind. To classify people as one race or another, especially by color, is truly EVIL. There is ONLY the HUMAN RACE! These attempts to drive us apart through this kind of rhetoric are no more than ravings of a dying monoculture.
Refusing to acknowledge racial issues would only allow those who ARE trying to drive us apart to have their way.
Refusing to acknowledge a problem and hoping it goes away doesn’t solve anything.
We heard about it in the UK – although not very loudly
Blah,blah,blah,blah!!!
unbelievable this wasn’t commented on, esp. by the WH
Well, kudos, Shuan King; yes, the media is run by the same folks who are supposed to be investigated by it, but are paid to tell a narrative of its owners.
This usually entails muderous blacks, welfare recipients,inner-city problems–never “white” problems; two sides to the story ,plus, historical amnesia when it comes to trying to deal with the problem(s) that have , obvious, historical stigmas attached to them;but, all of that is ignored when a non-brown person committs and act like this. And, it’s protection of even the most heinous evil doer by his/her “white” counterparts in the media.
This Sunday, unlike 2 weeks ago, there’s reason to feel safer. Newsweek: ‘An infamous British recruiter…for the Islamic State…“White Widow”—is believed to have been killed…in Syria…with her 12-year-old son Jojo…in a predator drone strike… 20 or so Twitter aliases she was known to use have fallen silent…Jones, 50…was formerly a punk musician born in South East London. Among some of the first Muslim-British converts to travel to Syria…Jones’ husband was…killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2015.
Jones was placed on a United States hit list…for her role recruiting ISIS members. She also encouraged British Muslims to carry out attacks at home giving online instruction on bomb making…“You Christians all need beheading…Come here I’ll do it for you,” Jones wrote in one tweet.’
Pray for Jojo.
In October 2016 a 14 year-old on the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios was burned when an e-cigarette in the pocket of a man near her exploded and shot flames at her. In November 2015 a couple in a car traveling on I-79 in Pennsylvania were both burned and the car damaged by flames when an e-cigarette she was holding exploded, severely burning her hands. In August 2016 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued an advisory against possession and use of e-cigarettes while driving.
In December 2016 an American Airlines MD80 flying from Dallas to Indianapolis had to divert in an emergency when an e-cigarette in a passenger pocket started a fire. Effective in May 2017 the U.S. Navy has prohibited both use and possession of e-cigarettes by anyone at all times on aircraft, ships and submarines. The cause of the fire that killed everyone on an EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo that crashed in May 2016 is unknown but it started in or near the restroom and EgyptAir crews are notorious for defying the rules by smoking in-flight, even when passengers protest, so the fire could have been started by someone hiding in the restroom using an e-cigarette which exploded, setting the airliner on fire. Recently attention has been focused on banning laptop computers from airliners as bomb threats yet none has been directed at e-cigarettes, which already have an e-liquid container of flammable fluids (propylene glycol and ethanol) which could easily be replaced with an explosive substance, plus a battery to power a detonator. Binary explosives smuggled in separate e-liquid vials are even harder to detect. To prevent deaths from accidental fires and terrorist bombs, e-cigarettes must be banned by the FAA from not only checked bags but also all carry-on bags, including pockets and purses. The Consumer Product Safety Commission must block importation of e-cigarettes and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration must ban possession and use of them at workplaces, including parking lots.
You won’t hear about this and if I may say so, it’s because the media and the law has selective outrage on how it’s portrays and punishes victims and perpetrators. President Donald Trump will not tweet about Michael Christopher Estes and I don’t expect to hear much about the airport bomber that fell through the cracks last week, as the country recovered from the Las Vegas massacre.
He claims he is American Indian
Doesn’t matter. He looks white? He will be treated white.
White Idiot/Mental Cases Can NEVER Be Terrorists, As It Completely Wrecks The Notion Of White Supremacy, & This Needs To Be Exposed For What It Is:
White Terrorism
Man, you are dumb!
So let me see if I understand. Your non-story about a non-story attempts to what? Manufacture a racist piece because the perp was white? Or skew a domestic crime into an act of global terrorism? I’m not following your message.
I think you need to use ‘clarity’ and support your postulates with material evidence. Otherwise it’s a nice editorial opinion piece when you declare it as such.
Crime is crime no matter what the race, creed, color, or sexual preferences of the perpetrators. A bomb was planted at a small regional US airport potentially endangering 10’s of people. I’ve been to Asheville. It’s a very small airport. But let’s not let the lackluster comparative magnitude of the crime diminish the opportunity to fabricate manufactured outrage over a non-event.
A “Non-Event?” Really? Are you one of these people that wish to push the narrative that white people are now the victims of racism? It may surprise you, but I’m a white man too, and I’ve never, for a second, ever believed that I have been denied some right or privilege, or have been persecuted by anyone … because of my Anglo-Saxon heritage. We are, by far, the dominant culture in the Western World, contrary to what some might think, and to suggest that our “whiteness” is somehow under attack takes the Orwellian term “doublespeak” to new levels. Wow!!
It looks like that’s exactly what you’re trying to do, place blame for the fact that he’s a white person and nobody jumped up and down screaming and hollering! And yes it should have been splattered all over the local and National media, but enough with trying to assign blame because of someone’s Color, Race or religious beliefs. It is what it is some freaking idiot that place the bomb and an airport and yes it’s called domestic terrorism!!!
The vernacular that you have chosen to use belies your claim that the ideological foundation of Western culture is not under constant attack. The term “Whiteness” was coined by a devout socialist who, in her professional capacity as a sociologist, attempted to conflate racism with classicism in context to Marxist ideology. Such is the insidious and subversive nature of such language; any debate that necessitates the adoption of such terms is, by design, being made subject to a decentering process. Terms like “whiteness” and “white privilege” are contrived ideological constructs that are meant to provide the glass darkly through which past history can be viewed anew and thus redefined in a manner that is best suited to affecting future outcomes consistent with the bias of their progenitor. I am afraid that you have lost sight of the woods for the trees.
Anyone planting a bomb anywhere is not a “nonevent.”
It seems like the author is jumping to conclusions. There has been no other clarification of the motive for leaving the bomb, except to “start a war on American soil”. That could come from a variety of political philosophies, or none at all. The suspect is also not “a good ol’ white man”. His previous arrest record lists him as Native American, which is not surprising, since he comes from Swain Co., a heavily Cherokee area. And, yes, there are plenty of Native Americans in Western North Carolina who don’t “look” native enough to satisfy critics. But I live here, and I suspect there’s more to the story than we know about at this point.
According to some other articles, it turns out he was Native American. I think the fact that he had ties to the military is a large factor in the silence.
Hi Shaun. I haven’t read the other comments yet. But This article does presume that it was not reported without any ostensible verification to back that up other than mainstream media “trump hates muslims and is a white supremacist racist”. I’m not here to vilify or endorse potus, but to take this position, please either explain the basis, more than sentiment should be required, or offer some morsels of info to support or similar please. Good article. best wishes
barry carrol Trump is now white supremacist, he does not hate muslims it all liberal narrative that affects simple minded people like you. He wants to protect our country from terrorist that happen to be muslims and putting a system in place if we can not verify a person background they can not enter the country especially from states that known to harbor terror. Trump does not want you and your family be the next victim of terror. I hope you’ll get this.
The conclusion of this article is poorly reasoned. This was a terrorist event, but the lack of publicity falls at the hands of the media, not Trump. Do we even know that Trump knew about it? The author follows these events and he didn’t know of it till much later. I don’t see the Trump connection. The next issue is the total lack of information about the political motivation of the perpetrator; was he a white supremist, or was he a paid Russian agent, we don’t know. I assume the police now know and this story needs that information. I would file this story under “political outrage” rather than where it belongs, ” terrorist attacks in the USA”.
Karl.
I find it fascinating that they like to wear dunce caps!
Ah, humility!
And all white – they’re virgins. … No girl would ever touch them!
What ‘war’ in America was that ‘misguided individual’ trying to accelerate? Had he been black, or Muslim, or even a Russian, we could guess which war he was trying to move forward. In this instant there is no war involved either – just like there was no attack, or any news of it. Something else that didn’t happen, an non-event.
When you think about it, there are millions of those, unstopped, occurring undetected, every day. That’s scary too.
Police and homeland security just doing their job, and you want to make it political, who says he wasn’t an affiliated terrorist. Are you just another would be reporter putting his own spin on something he has no idea about the full story…you are faking news, Jerk!
John Moore, ever heard of biased media?
I think you’ve found yourself here by mistake (oh, all those https’ and wwws, I know). Let me help you: google Fox News and click on the first link on results.
I work in Asheville I live in Hendersonville where this man is from this is terrifying. On top of that there’s been another suspicious package left at the Asheville Regional Airport since this occurred and no one’s talking about it
Estes is a “Native American.” You’re joking, right? This $5 injun (yeah, search the term, “$5 Indian” and get a grip). As a real indigenous person – Omaha – whose family can document our ancestral past in this country to the 16th c., you people are certifiably insane if you believe this white man is indigenous to this land.
Shaun King – Have you considered the possibility that the lack of reporting on this, is not because of his ethnicity, but rather because of his clear Antifa loyalties? It was, after all, to the day, the 100-year anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. The left-wing media would prefer to look the other way, as they did when Scalise was shot, when the perpetrator was one of their own. It seems as if you only get your news from left-wing echo-chambers (CNN, NYT, etc.), because it was reported elsewhere, including infowars, Fox News, etc. You’ll be amazed to find out that the hostage rescue team that responded to the vegas shooting found not only ISIS paraphernelia in Paddock’s room, but also found Antifa paraphernelia and literature in his room. Heard that in your mainstream media? Of course not. It wouldn’t fit the narrative of the “violent right” while the angelic little lambs of the left are the ones who are perpetrating these murderous waves of violence nationwide. Shame.
Duh. His theory is quite amusing actually. The media suddenly does what Trump wants them to do. Sure sure.
You need to adjust the antenna on your foil hat. No evidence supporting your allegations of ISIS/ISIL or the non-entity Antifa parifinalia was ever found on the scene.
Just throw every crazy thing against the wall and see what sticks huh, Alex? You forgot the UFO cover up in Roswell, HAARP weather modification, chem trails, etc. Keep slinging!
Next time I suggest that you lead with comments like this as they will allow me to more readily conclude that you are merely an insincere, close-minded troll.
Bolshevik revolution is celebrated Nov 7. Not “to the day.” Or the month. Also, no one is reporting ISIS and antifa literature was found in Paddocks room. Even if it were so it would indicate his insanity; two political groups with completing opposing agendas. Everyone wants to assign fault to their pet boogeyman, but make themselves look foolish in the attempt.
Why would a left-winger try to bomb one of the most consistently liberal counties in the state?
He may self identify as whatever he wants. Doesnt change the fact that he looks caucasian. That to me is more to the point. Nobody would look at this dude in public and say, Hey he is hispanic, native american, or anything other than caucasian. Seems to me that many have totally (and I suspect intentionally) missed the point in their attempts to discredit the very valid point that when crimes committed by people that look white, there often isnt the same fervor or negative spin.
Britain’s most wanted female terrorist reportedly killed

The Christian Post · 10 hours ago
Sally Jones, a British jihadi who recruited online for the Islamic State group, has been killed in Syria by a U.S. drone along with her 12-year-old son, The Sun …
Those are some dazzlingly sugary words, right??
She allies herself with ISIS. She may be white, but she’s definitely a Muslim — and THAT’S the angle.
“and THAT’S the angle.”
No, that’s YOUR angle. This article, and Rick’s comment, have everything to do with ‘whiteness’….which is patently racist and absurd.
Actually, online jail records list him as Native American, not white.
I read on another website (CBS News, I believe) that the suspect self-identified as Native American – no tribe specified, evidently. Since many members of Eastern tribes are hard to distinguish from their white neighbors, it’s impossible to tell from the photo. If the report is true, this blows the writer’s theory, not for the first time, I suspect.
So Roger, you appear to be source-less, ergo a troll.
Rachel Dolezal self-identifies as a black woman…..so what’s your point? Estes can self identify any way he wants. Meanwhile, world identifies him as Caucasian and that’s all that matters so far as society is concerned.
“Good ol white man” wow, real professional journalism here, huh? Well, if you are going to be so quick to attack white people, where are all your stories about all the shootings committed by good ol black people on a DAILY basis? You wouldn’t be able to keep up with them all, huh? What I see here is, you are a typical, hateful, spiteful, hypocritical liberal, who isn’t done throwing their temper tantrum since Trump won. We understand, you have the mentality of a child, so go ahead and get it all out because we are all getting REAL tired of the race baiting BS, especially from other whites.
The Donald Has The Mentality Of A Child, & So Do YOU
Ah yes an outraged butthurt snowflake conservative. Did Shuan hurt your feelings by reporting news? I know your worldview is fragile and facts may hurt that view but hey, at least we have alt-facts, right?
“where are all your stories about all the shootings committed by good ol black people on a DAILY basis?”
Fox news already covers that. Should white people be immune from the same coverage?
A little emotional aren’t we.
Yeah, the shootings done by “good ol black people on a DAILY basis” are reported and smeared all over the front page and insides of your morning , daily paper—oh, and Fox News.
“…race baiting BS..” Isn’t that what you did in you opening statement—oh, the irony! You just don’t see it. :(
He’s hispanic you dumbass
Love all the disingenous replies about “well it was a big news week….”
White terror is NEVER covered the same way. This is not an isolated media incident.
I’ll give an example: remember the couple a few years ago who had been out at the Bundy Ranch, killed two police officers who were having pizza, draped a “Don’t Tread On Me” flag over their bodies, and were later killed by police at a Wal-Mart. Like how much more explicitly politicized could they make their act?
Remember how the guy who killed several muslims in their apartment was alleged to be mad about “parking”?
Remember the guy who flew his small plane into the IRS building in Texas?
Yet this guy is hispanic…
Actually, he identifies as Native American. That’s not surprising, coming from a county with a large Cherokee population, with varying degrees of Caucasian heritage. Look at other photos of the suspect – based on my experience in this part of the world, he could well be Native American. Not Hispanic.
Estes himself claimed to be Native American. as their are other examples of Native Americans who bear the name Estes it seems likely that his claim is credible.
Good points, Vic. But let’s not fool ourselves. News coverage is ratings based. I’m sure decisions to either run, or not run, a story are based on ratings.
I definitely agree with you ( and Shaun King) that when stories about white guys committing atrocities that the Media instinctively covers them differently than when brown or black skinned people commit atrocities.
But decisions to either put a story on the air or not to put one on the air are most likely ratings driven and not racially driven.
Natural disasters stories: Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida, California fires. Check.
Political stories/Palace Intrigue: Tillerson comment on Trump being a moron, Iran nuclear deal, N. Korea, Bob Corker. Check.
White guys committing unspeakable acts: Las Vegas shooter 24/7 coverage, Harvey Weinstein, Trump and the NFL. Check.
My guess is that this story wouldn’t have generated enough interest. USA Today, NBC and Daily Mail picked up the story 3 days ago. I would be interested in knowing how and why they came to that conclusion to run that story as well as why other didn’t run it.
I think it’s completely fair and accurate to point out reporting disparities, but not reporting vs reporting…..well….there is simply a myriad of possibilities, all of which are speculative. And for someone to come out and say this is racism because the outlet didn’t cover it is a pretty bold statement especially when their only proof if absence of proof.
That’s an Argument from Silence. Media org is guilty of X, because they didn’t report on something.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_silence
That’s what King is doing here. He’s saying Trump (and the Media) are guilty of racism because they don’t run a story. So, he is equating silence with guilt of racism. Well, silence is absence. It’s proof of nothing.
If silence was proof of guilt, then why do we have a right to remain silent when being arrested?
There is mounting evidence that thew Las Vegas attack was carried out by a minimum of two gunmen. Check out this video by Mike Adams on his audio analysis of the ballistics involved:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxmEFeKy8aI
So, I listed to about 18 minutes of his presentation. For the record, I am not an acoustic expert.
He has flaws and unexplained issues with his analysis.
He states that the supposed 2nd shooter’s sounds are intermixed but doesn’t say how he differentiated those sounds. He just says he does.
He provides on only 1 scenario. That the shooter used .223 caliber ammunition. However, there were various types of guns and ammunition found at the site ranging from .223 to .308. His calculations could be off because his charts were for only .223.
This also begs the question of exactly what guns were used to fire in the Vegas shooting. I believe it’s not currently known which guns were discharged and which ones were not. Thus, his analysis most likely is flawed by his assumption of ONLY .223 caliber being used.
He also doesn’t address what sort of loads are in the bullets being used. I’m not sure how much difference this makes, but I do know that there are basically 3 types of loads when creating any caliber. I know this because I have been to gun ranges and shot several types of weapons.
There are light loads (target loads), medium loads and full loads (max gunpowder in the casing). this may have effected the time lag that he speaks about.
He also doesn’t address distance from where the sounds are recorded. He clearly states that he downloaded many different audio versions for analysis. However, each one that he downloaded was recorded from a different spot and each one having a different distance from the shooter. Thus, he doesn’t account for that sort of discrepancy in sound travel.
Lastly, he discredits himself by stating and acknowledging that he has no formal training in exactly the science he is opining upon, namely acoustic forensics. Thus, he is merely an interested amateur.
He also never discusses his methods or how he checked his hypothesis. He is one person and no one checked his work. That really begs the question that if he made a mistake, no one would have caught it.
In my opinion, his analysis isn’t worth very much.
So, I went back and listened to the remainder of his presentation.
I am now thoroughly convinced that the only thing mounting here is a conspiracy theory. The remainder of his time was spent on heckling anyone who might disagree with him and bashing/mocking the FBI and the Media.
Actually, he does. he explained that the discharge from each weapon had a unique sound frequency and wavelength that was easily recognized from their sound wave patterns; as did the sound of ricocheting bullets. furthermore gun enthusiasts have a keen ear for distinguishing different type of ammunition from the sound created from discharge.
Two type of ammunition was found in the hotel room, 223 and .308 caliber. Are you aware of any other caliper ammunition that was found?
It is only necessary to compare the .223 sound reports and corresponding ricochets to determine a difference in range between the two.
The purpose of Mike Adams acoustical analysis was not meant to be definitive – had you watched the entire video you’d know that his purpose was to show that the source of each shot fired could be ascertained via scientific analysis. To that end, he offered his services to the FBI. Law enforcement have in their possession every weapon that was retrieved from the hotel room along with the ammunition they used. Thus it would be possible to match the performance of each weapon against the acoustics recorded on the night of the shootings. Any discharge and ricochet sounds that do not match those results are proof of a second shooter. Remember the performance of every weapon was to reveal a single predetermined range. Lastly, the Las Vegas hotel shooter himself left behind calculations for targeting the crowd from that fixed distance.
The location of those who recorded the shooting spree is a known quantity. Secondly, the recorded time between a shot fired and its recorded ricochet will not very regardless off the distance between those events and the person recording.
i suggest that you listen to the first few minutes again. In his capacity as a “lab director” who is thoroughly familiar with sound analysis techniques. Again, he explains in the video that his objective was to show that acoustical analysis of the Las Vegas shootings could definitively prove whether or not all of the shots came from a single source.
I don’t need to listen to him one more time. He admitted that he had no training and this analysis was done in 3 hours.
Based on this alone, it doesn’t pass my giggle test. Not to mention all the other possible scenarios and variables that could arise from something so serious as the Vegas shooting.
Granted, the government (ie local police) don’t always do the best job, etc. But bringing on more resources and actually doing real data gathering and analysis is what needs to be done, not some basement amateur who spent all of 3 hours to prepare some crap on a whiteboard in a weak attempt to convince the public.
Sorry, but I’m not buying any of that today.
That’s ok, because I am not selling anything. I, however, keep an open mind to the possibility that this particular tragedy was a staged event rather than the lunacy of a lone gun man. Their are many inconsistencies om the official story that have already come to light as a result of open source investigations.
New York Post is reporting both a DDM4 and AK-457 type rifles at the site.
The DDM4 is a 5.56mm round and the AKs are generally a 7.62mm round. So, without knowing exactly which rifles were fired (and it’s very likely multiple rifles were fired instead of changing magazines), the more Mike Adams’ analysis doesn’t mean squat. He’s speculating just on which caliber round was used to generate his analysis.
This is always the case as things come to light as evidence is gathered. The issue is that the public wants/needs explanations and usually demands them right away and can become quite surly if they don’t get them.
But in the rush to report, that’s where mistakes and errors are made. And that’s also very true for the MSM. I think the public is better served if after a tragedy, the police and/or other responsible institutions would come out and say we’re not giving any information for 10 days until we can gather and sift though the evidence and testimonies.
That way normal mistakes are corrected before public consumption and less likely to draw criticism. Just my two cents.
I always have an open mind. It’s my nature. I just let it get distracted with noise. That comes from the profession I’m in.
D’Oh! meant to say, “I just don’t let it get distracted with noise”.
Also, I don’t proof read as you can tell…..;)
The WTC attacks of 911 were very much handled in a way that you describe. The entire scene was cordoned and systematically stripped of all evidence in absence of a formal criminal investigation. Within hours or the attack an officially sanctioned narrative emerged wherein al Queda was named as the terror boogieman. Yet, no grand jury was ever convened to weigh the “evidence” in a manner consistent with American concepts of justice that impose a mandatory burden of proof on the government prosecutors. Instead, an al Queda narrative was constructed and nurtured by those who were preositioned to politically exploit the public’s fear and outrage to predetermined ends. It was from this narrative that the legal groundwork was laid by which the never ending global war on terror could draws its legitimacy in perpetuity. Those who dared to question the al Queda narrative and the forgone conclusions of the political hacks who rubber stamped it (i.e. the 911 commission) were vociferously discredited as conspiracy theorists by the very people who were suppose to hold the government’s feet to the fire, the corporate media. Even if the truth of the 911 WTC attacks ultimately comes to light, the damage that has been done to date is immeasurable. The neocons were used to usher in an age wherein the entire globe is perceived as a single theater of operation against the ever-evolving and ever-elusive boogieman of transnational terror. Thus, the very act of labeling any particular occurrence as terror, opens it up to a set of conditions whereby the rule of law can be conveniently suspended for the purpose of exacting the type of politically expedient justice that leaves no room for doubt and/or critical reflection. It is in response to scenarios such as this that I recoil at the thought of allowing law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigations behind closed doors. We are being herded like sheep from crisis to crisis while being spoon fed official narratives that are meant to induce fear and further rationalize the need for draconian solutions that invariably result in a loss of liberty. It is in an information vacuum that scenarios such as these can be tailored to serve what ever ends are deemed politically expedient at the moment. If one watches the way in which the media have already been manhandled by those running the investigation, it becomes readily apparent that the ensuing narrative will be constructed with an eye to limiting access to evidence in a manner that is eerily consistent with 911. Meanwhile, those who stand to gain from such a scenarios (e.g. Chertoff and company) are once again coming out of the woodwork to exploit the climate of fear by proposing another round of fast track legislation that will inevitably result in windfall profits at the expense of freedom.
Um…Why Is Everything A Conspiracy As IF DIRECTED From Some Central Cabal? The World Just Doesn’t Actually Work Like That
If This Guy Had Been BlackBrown/Muslim/Syrian Refugee It Would Have Been Hyped To The Moon & YOU Know It.
Vegas, Obviously Was Doable If
1) Money
2) Familiarity
3) Intent
Same As The Saudi Terrorists In 9/11
Errrr… evidence of the Saudi connection to 911 was kept from the American people – as was the Israeli connection and the corporate connection.
‘Staged Event’ ? Seriously? You R Already Down The Rabbit Hole, Alice
Hey Brent, was there someone one else with McVeigh when he approached the Morrow building with a truck full of explosives? Were their other explosive devices removed from the Morrow building on the day of its attack as reported by the MSM? Was there an active multi-agency intelligence infiltration of Elohim City (See: Andreas Strassmeir; German intelligence operative ) at the time when McVeigh allegedly placed a phone call to their compound? Was McVeigh lying when he claimed that he was implanted with an RFID chip? Did Timothy McVeigh receive training to be a sheep dipped intelligence operative when he was caught on film in uniform at Fort Bragg many months after his “official” discharge? Was the NY times telling the truth when it reported :
Factual anomalies such as these continue to challenge the “official” law enforcement narrative surrounding the OKC bombing.
Anecdotal evidence and eyewitness accounts of the Las Vegas shootings are challenging the FBI’s officially sanctioned narrative.
1. The official timeline alone has been repeatedly revised to accommodate facts that were released directly to the public by non-sanctioned sources.
2. Cell phone footage of the event has reportedly been “wiped” from the phones of concert goers by law enforcement agencies without their consent.
3. Questions remain as to why it took law enforcement so long to locate the “lone gunman’s” position when 200 plus rounds had already been discharged through the door of the shooter’s room at a hotel security officer 6-10 minutes prior to when the barrage outside began. The wounded security guard reported the circumstance of his shooting by radio and cell phone minutes before the gunman opened fire.
4. Every window in the hotel had built in sensor which was designed to detect and report any breech to security. Yet law enforcement claimed to have no idea where the shooter was located?
5. There are verified reports of online warnings of the pending attack in Las Vegas.
6.It was falsely reported that the alleged shooter had checked into his room several days after hotel records indicated.
7. It was falsely reported law enforcement that the alleged shooter was alone for the entire time while occupying his room in the days before the shooting.
8. The hotel has cameras in every hallway on every floor and in every elevator, yet law enforcement is reportedly unable to determine who might have carried all of the firearms and ammunition to the room – or when and how it was done. Again their all metal detectors at every entrance to the hotel.
9. Independent acoustical analysis of recorded gunfire supports eyewitness accounts of multiple shooters. Yet law enforcement was characterizing the attacks from the first day forward as that of a lone gunman.
10. The profile of the alleged shooter does not, in any way, match that of a typical mass murderer.
11. There were numerous bullet holes found in the face of the adjacent buildings which were not in the line of sight of the alleged shooter or the result of ricochet.
12. Paddock’s home was being burglarized at exactly the same time that the shooting were occurring.
13. Las Vegas police claim that they found a “note” found near Paddock’s body that was scribbled with calculations for bullet drop from his position. However, these calculations can be readily ascertained with newer, commercially available laser rangefinders. Independents experts have already concluded that the degree of accuracy exhibited by the shooter was that someone who had received extensive shooter training. Likewise, tracer bullets were found among the munitions in the room which also would have facilitated a higher kill ratio.
14. The shooting spree ended minuted before law enforcement reached the correct floor. Yet the alleged shooter failed to make a planned get away or reload and continue his spree. Instead he chose to shoot himself in the head.
15. There is no evidence to suggest that the shooter was radicalized or suffering from a brain pathology which would heighten the potential of such violence.
One would have to suspend logic, and the disbelief that predictably arises from it in the face of anomalous facts and circumstance, to take on faith that which is coming from official sources.
What About Echoes?
And to be perfectly clear…..Trump is a racist. There is no doubt about it to me. There is sufficient evidence to support this conclusion.
However, Trump remaining silent on the airport bomber is not any sort of evidence of Trump’s racism. Same goes for the Media.
Silence can prove guilt. For example in the case of media. They dont report about things they dont want to report. Guilty of not doing their job at the least, and guilty of complicity at the worst.

“Never”?????????
I hate to break it to the author,,,but Estes is reportedly a Native American,,,specifically Alaskan Native. Although the name Estes is a nickname for lustas, indicating a fruitful person,,,but in reality just a fruitcake! Pity your theory is incorrect,,,no worries though, I’m sure you’ll find more asshatted reasons to bitch about Trump, Race, and spread additional onesided narratives. The world is full of whackos,,one will come along soon enough with little fanfare for you to write about the horrors of Trumps indifference. Btw, Paddock, that other crazy “white guy”, actually was involved with numerous deaths,,,Estes was stopped and therefore insignificant in the grand scheme. Smh
I’m not much of a fan of mind-reading, never really believed in it myself. Hence the reason I’m not terribly impressed with this article. The Author, while able to read the mind of Trump perfectly seemed unable to find out that the would be bomber was not in fact “white” at all. It seems his psychic abilities are better than his ability to research a story properly before publishing.
Now although I’m no fan of mind reading I’ll offer some of my own considering that this seems to be the place to put forward opinions without the need for facts to back them up. In my opinion Shawn King hates white people and loves to project his hatred onto others. Since he is full of hate based on race (they have a word for that) he obviously believes that everyone else must be as well. And please don’t tell me that I’m way off base because I just provided as much evidence to support my claim as Shawn did and I did so without getting a major fact in my story wrong.
Now all sarcasm aside, I did in fact find the article to be just a schlock hit piece. There are tons of possible reasons why Trump might not have commented on this event. Do we really need to go to the most divisive reason for an explanation, without even considering other possibilities? Shawn King says he pays very close attention and didn’t hear about it. Isn’t it equally possible that Trump, who is certainly one heck of a lot more busy than Mr. King, might simply not have heard about it? Considering that it didn’t go off there isn’t much reason for him to have been informed about it. But that possibility is obviously not as much fun as assuming our president is an ignorant bigot who couldn’t have figured out a way blame the Native American guy without ticking off his bigoted base.
It’s articles like this that give a publication a bad name and also why the intercept doesn’t get taken all that seriously and that’s too bad. We need more good news sources not less but this kind of hate based, dare I say bigoted, speculation is not news and it’s not good for any outfit that is attempting to be taken seriously. If the Intercept cared as much about being taken seriously as it does getting support from the far left it would spend more time fact checking and leave the race baiting garbage to the Al Sharpton’s of the world.
This could have been an interesting story but it was completely ruined by the bias of the author. Next time stick with the facts and leave the mind reading to the psychics, that or go get a job at the enquirer.
Ps, one more bit of sloppy reporting here. An-Fo doesn’t explode when coming into contact with flame. It like many other explosives of it’s kind requires a detonator of some kind. Either a commercial grade blasting cap or a more often a half stick of dynamite. Was this explosive device even wired to a blasting cap or some other explosive? We don’t know, apparently King was too busy with his crystal ball to find out.
LOL
Shaun King has built his progressive brand by fanning the flames of racial divisiveness. Because he is a “white” man posing as “black” man, he feels compelled to be perceived as being blacker than black. Some critics have speculated that he suffers from dysphoria:
http://www.bentspud.com/news/living/2015/06/13/racial-identity-disorder-is-real-says-leading-psychologist/
What is known for certain, is that he lied about having a black father when it was revealed that his parents of record were white.
Excellent.
Shaun,
It could have simply been that the Harvey Wienstein story was blowing up; everywhere. Combined with the fact, and I’m making assumptions here from the information in your article, that this individual executed his plan with no one noticing except CCTV and his plan was thwarted with zero fan fare for everyone except those that happened to be at the airport that morning.
I do find it a bit shocking that the liberal CNN, MSN, et. al. didn’t at least pick up the story…
What kind of war? War over what?
Yet the fact remains, Estes jail records indicate he’s Native American, not Caucasian. Perhaps Shaun King should pay closer attention then he thinks he does.
http://www.businessinsider.com/fbi-michael-estes-explosives-north-carolina-airport-2017-10
Yeah, every day American Indian/Alaska Native folks are killing people across the world.
https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
I posted this comment on FB on a friends page who had posted the article but just in hopes that you actually see it… This article is 10% news and 90% ASSumption. Keep up the good work. That’s extraordinary journalism!
Karl and Mona need to get a room!
I hear there are vacancies now at some Trump hotels. Seems like sports teams are opting out. ;)
I shudder to think what may spawn from such a union…
Shaun King — thanks for spreading the news about another home grown potential terrorist attack.
Wow! I am from the Asheville region (Sylva), and this is alarming, to say the least.
While acting as the pastor of Courageous Church in midtown Atlanta, Shaun king posted a request online asking that others offer up prayers for his older brother Russ who was deploying to Afghanistan fro a second tour of duty. Russ King’s biological father is listed as Jeffrey W. King and his mother’s name is Vikki.
Shaun King’s birth certificate lists his parents as Jeffery W. King and Naomi K Flemming. If Russel King is truly Shaun’s brother as he claimed, then their common parent has to be Jeffery W. King as their mothers are irrefutably different.
What say you Shaun? Were you lying about your brother or your father?
http://www.re-newsit.com/2015/08/exclusive-new-document-shows-jeffery.html
this is my first time ever reading the intercept and, wow, you’re a fucking moron. if his father (whether biological or adopted) is jeffrey w. king, and russel king’s father is the same man, then that makes them… brothers. where did you get confused?
Whenever i read a lead in like this, “this is my first time ever reading the intercept…”, it is pretty certain that it is coming from a sock puppet. Else, what is the need?
You obviously either didn’t read the entire article, in which he says his family is “blended” and have different parents. OR, you prefer to ignore it.
In either case, your comments make no sense. sir.
You are clearly intellectually challenged. Try to understand the nature of the debate BEFORE weighing in.
Karl — Do you have anything to say about the topic of this story about a white male who planned to blowup Americans, on American soil?
Estes himself reports that he is NOT a white male. Get a clue!
Oy Karl, You know this bogus story you’re regurgitating about Mr. King has already been debunked as a load of bollocks right? I think you should go back to your little white supremacist turd hole, before your entire life blows up in your face. You have been doxxed…
Not at all. The only “proof” that anyone can offer in support of the claim that Shaun King was the product of his mother’s extramarital affair with a black man is the claim mad by Shaun himself. Even that claim has been contradicted by Shaun himself when he claimed that his older brother Russ and he shared a common parent – which their birth records clearly show. They both were fathered by the same “white” man but have different mothers.
1.) What does this have to do with what has been written here?
2.) Right-wing assholes have long tried to accuse Shaun King of being white, as if that somehow discredits him as a journalist.
3.) Shaun has thoroughly and ridiculously explained, ad nauseam, that he is mixed race and has always identified as a black man.
4.) Dear Intercept? Can you not find or afford a thread moderator to get rid of the idiotic trolls who feel the need to disrupt this community?
1. Journalistic credibility – Shaun King is a proven liar and Race Baiter
Having lived for a long time, i have witnessed term like “right wing” evolve drastically. using it as a pejorative carries little weight with me as does little more than reveal your own bias. If a politically conservative person claims that 2+2=4, is the claim any less credible?
If a proven liar makes the statement, ” I am not lying”, should he be taken at his word? Do a google search on the phrase “Shaun King Fraud” and review that which his black peers, co-workers, and fellow Christians have said about chronically fraudulent behavior.
So then, you first three question were totally disingenuous eh? You have done the likes of Mona and Shaun King proud. Birds of a feather…
So you seem to think that because he is ‘white’, the media is ignoring him? Wow, keep drinking the kool-aid, and review the following: the MEDIA did not cover it, PERIOD. Why, it didn’t go off, and people were not harmed: no point it ‘fear-mongering’, right? ‘If it bleeds, it leads’ didn’t fit the crime. I couldn’t personally give a crap about what race, religion, or ideology this moron believed, and pointing at the POTUS to comment on EVERY crime would lead you to question why he was doing so.
Make yourself useful and do something that matters instead of publishing your drivel, hmmm? Join the military, law enforcement, or heck, work at Amazon sending packages: it will be better for all of us.
Racial profiling and terrorist rhetoric do run parallel, in large part, yet people of every ethnicity are being labeled terrorists based upon ideology and political motivation, such as the passing of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA), and similar legislation about environmental saboteurs, even though their crimes are largely nonviolent property destruction. The issue is more about whether the crime challenges the status quo of imperialism and tyranny. When the Weather Underground was active, “bringing the war home” was their motto, and they were labeled a terrorist organization.
More Karl, the world as he thinks it should be. (He will never, for any reason, explain what is wrong with white people having done that to black people for centuries, if he will even concede that it occurred at all, which is unlikely.)
Karl, relaxing on the weekend.
All:
Please read through the thread to observe the performance of one “Karl” to see how the modern Klan and today’s “polite” Nazis perform online. He’s the quintessential thing.
What does the President have to do with this being covered. The guy is crazy. You can’t tie every bad thing that goes on each day to the President. He gets zero credit from you liberal bastards when something good happens.
Stop judging people by the color of their skin – he’s American Indian / Alaskan. It doesn’t matter, even before reading your race – baiting low -iq drivel, I called him a terrorist, assuming he was Caucasian (not white, moron).
You look white, just like me, but I’ll judge you on the content of your character. And it’s not great…
He’s native American, not “white”. However, I called him a terrorist before I read your bias race-baiting article, regardless of his color.
Strange how the people who are so quick to scream “racism!!”, foaming and bemoaning, ate the
I am a HUGE fan of Glenn Greenwald. His reporting on the NSA was heroic. That he has thrown his lot in with this snake-oil salesman calls everything that Glenn has done into question. For the sake of The Intercept, I implore you: Shaun King is not a journalist. Lose him quickly.
Oh, and Kal, please critique this declaration by your conservative forebears at National Review, my emphasis:
That was 1963. Were they wrong, Karl, and if so, exactly how and why?
The foregoing is Mona’s most favorite from of logical fallacy: Guilt by association as an ad hominem.
oh Dear, did I forget to mention that Mona employs such sophistry for the specific purpose of distractib from the proof I offered below that both she and Shaun King a proven Liars when they claim that his father was “black.”
Shaun King is an exploitative, race baiting imposter!
The King has no cloths!
Oh dear, a typo! Let me reiterate with corrections:
Oh dear, did I forget to mention that Mona employs such sophistry for the specific purpose of distracting from the proof I offered below that both she and Shaun King are proven liars when they claim that his father was “black.”
Much clearer – thanks for your indulgence.
Again:
Well?
(Watch: He won’t/can’t answer. He’s a contemporary KKK and/or white supremacist member, and can’t disavow past members, but also is constrained from defending such overt statements. In the at least three years he’s posted here he has not been willing to disavow such sentiments but constantly attacks today’s civil rights advocates. Fascinating, in a sick way.)
Can’t be, not to you. Not once in the some three years you have volubly commented here on race issues, have you ever evinced the slightest belief that the above passage from NR contains sentiments that, if espoused, would make one “guilty” of anything wrong. That is, you find nothing wrong with such views, by all evidence.
You are modern Klan.
My sentiments exactly, -Mona-.
Educated but misguided, ignorant bigots like Karl will always exist. Let’s not waste our time trying to teach compassion and humanity or shed light on the disgusting reality of our current administration and media and pour our energy towards whose who will listen, sharing acceptance and love, and promoting policy changes in favor of equality and equity.
Karl and his intellectual predecessors endorse this. (Karl has never written one word to suggest opposition to such events, or that even believes this really happened.)
This is another one of Mona’s favorite tactics – logical fallacy. This form of argument is called argumentum ad ignorantiam. The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. The mere contention that I have not, to Mona’s knowledge, spoken out against any particular subject is not proof that I haven’t. Or, for that matter, does not prove that I hold any opinion at all, one way or the other, on the topic suggested by her. Of course this bit of juvenile sophistry is meant to distract you from the fact that I have provided proof that both she and Shaun King are liars.
Karl is the modern Klan. He/they won’t publiclyendorse what that story and photographs show. He/they just will not, after his years here, oppose it, either. The modern Klan, of which Karl is a member, tactically sidesteps this “unpleasantness.” Playing it coy.
But make no mistake: Karl is the tool delivering that picture. Karl is a racist shit who will never, ever disavow racist statements or lynching pictures. (Peruse this thread to see this, or many others I could link.)
Karl approves of lynchings. He’s a racist shit. Just careful about it, along the lines of David Duke.
He’s not white though so…
No one was will be talking about the other nearly 7,000 bombings that will happen this year either.
“From January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014, BATS captured a total of 912 explosives incidents and 642 bombings (5 church, 15 school bombings). There were 6,876 recoveries with the majority being explosives (improvised explosive device recoveries).”
https://www.atf.gov/explosives/docs/report/2014-usbdc-explosive-incident-report/download
Maybe Trump hasn’t mentioned this because the deep state quislings in the FBI aren’t telling him things he should know.
Wile acting as the pastor of Courageous Church in midtown Atlanta, Shaun king posted a request online asking that others offer up prayers for his older brother Russ who was deploying to Afghanistan fro a second tour of duty. Russ King’s biological father is listed as Jeffrey W. King and his mother’s name is Vikki.

What say you Shaun” Were you lying about your brother or your father?
http://www.re-newsit.com/2015/08/exclusive-new-document-shows-jeffery.html
You are grotesque. A grotesque racist and homophobe who tenderly defends those who oppose gay adoption on the basis that gays supposedly are perverts.
Filth, complete filth. That’s you.
My oh my, that is quite a visceral reaction Mona… of course it is meant to divert attention from the import of my proof that Shaun King lied about his father being black.
And here I was thinking that you would appreciate a link in support of my assertion. Be careful what you wish for next time.
The king has no cloths!
Mona you can’t handle that someone beLIEves something different from you…typical American. Instead of calling the man filth, how about you take a deep breath and pray for forgiveness for him lol, because you’re not a hero that’s changing the world by punching keys.
He hee hee hee…birth certificate…HA HA HA HA!
Karl is a racist pig. Sliming Shaun King, just as wingnuts have historically done to the black activists of their place and time. He makes me sick, as my father (a Karl prototype) did when I came of age and realized what he was and what he did. I’ve known “Karl” since I was in diapers. The Karls provide the cover for the lynching tree, but are too effete to actually attend and hoist the rope. Craven, depraved cowards.
This type of logical fallacy is commonly referred to as anecdotal fallacy. Of course there is a bit of projection and transference thrown into the mix for good measure.
Again Mona hopes that you will not bother to locate the comment ( and supporting link) wherein I provided incontrovertible proof that Shaun King did not have a black father as claimed by him and Mona..
That’s actually true. You do uncomfortably remind me of my father, and I deeply dislike that. He was a racist sicko, and you are very much like him, which I find very uncomfortable.
But this from you is false, you racist pervert:
Your (rare) link doesn’t prove any such thing. Moreover, why you’d care is hard to understand, since you don’t believe blacks were ever victimized by white people. That’s a deranged belief, but it is what you think, holding as you do that ALL black grievance is contrived and bogus. (So Shaun’s dad’s race can’t be any issue for you.) There’s no black activism you credit or defend, ever, at all.
Your are Klan.
The phenomenon of lone wolf attackers also undermines the security rationale for mass surveillance, which is predicated on detecting communications AND undermines freedom of conscience…without even securing its own stated end.
Karl, in this documentary about James Baldwin, he’s quoted lamenting that as “a Negro” he cannot trust white Christians. Why, Karl, do you suppose that was?
Baldwin stated that: “the story of the Negro in America is the story of America. It is not a pretty story.” Was he wrong? If so, why?
Was Baldwin the “fraud” you disgustingly accuse Shaun King of being?
Karl, what African-American blacks do you admire, and why, if any?
@Karl
In typical fashion, Mona has moved a sliver of our conversation from below to the top of the thread to deprive all comers of the necessary context by which she and Shaun King could be understood to be proven liars. This is the way that Mona operates. And when all else fails, she attempts to change the subject with the intent of controlling the ensuing narrative. On the plus side, she has chosen to come out from behind the numerous guises that she ordinarily uses to steer the debate. look at hoe desperate she is to get me off of the subject of Shaun King’s racially exploitative impersonation of a black man. The King has no cloths!!!
Google the phrase, ‘Shaun King fraud” and see what comes up…
Again, Karl includes no link to support his claim. He cannot and will not answer the inquiries put to him below, including:
1. What black civil rights activist since 1960 do you, Karl, credit as right about opposing racism, if there is even one? And if so, please describe what that activist was right about, and why.
2. Karl, why do you not comment on this?
3. Karl, do you still insist that Shaun King is lying about his biological father being black? If so, why do you claim he’s lying? (Do try to avoid overt defamation in any answer.)
4. Karl, has American law enforcement ever, at any time or in any way, been unfair and evil to black people in a kind and degree worse than treatment of whites? If so, in what period(s) and in what manner?
The sad thing is you people actually buy into this BS line of thinking. It wasn’t reported because he was white? Sounds right up cnn or msnbc’s alley. It wasn’t reported because he didn’t pull it off and it was a busy news week. But why not blame race. It’s the trendy thing to do these days anyway
Oh, trust me…if it was a muslim, Fox, Breitbart and all would have found time in theit busy schedules to praise Trump & the cops for stopping it.
Lazy ass shitty reporting. “Duh..I know how to make something sensational I’ll spin it about races..duhhhh…”
Look, regardless of what race the author is(probably part black, mostly white from all the pictures I’ve seen of him, that’s my guess and both me and my wife are half black), and what race the bomber is, white or NA, if he were Muslim it would be all over the news. Just think about the Canadian white guy that walked into a mosque and shot up everybody. Trump did not say a peep about that at all. Muslim = terrorist that should be banned. White = lone wolf, shrug it off and go about your business.
Y’ve got to be of a darker colour to be branded a terrorist in America.

Western NC and its oh so smart inbred rednecks. No shock here.
Hey person, what about the church killing a month ago by a alien. MSM never covered. Neither did u
DOES NOT SURPRISE ME,,,VERY SAD INDEED.
While I’m sure a large part of this not going viral right away is his appearance/race or not being Muslim…. there may be one other factor involved. Locally, initially, it was reported as a hoax device… it was only later in the day that a correction was made and it was announced that it really WAS an IED containing explosives…. I live in the area, so I heard about it that morning….. but it wasn’t until later in the day that it was considered a real event, and by then, I’m sure the original story was ignored as a hoax…
I don’t think it’s fair reporting to blindly conclude that the silence is because he’s white. More likely, it’s because the authorities don’t want to start a panic. If you really are “reporting” on this, you should contact news outlets and find out why they aren’t covering the story. Don’t assume they won’t tell you the truth.
The other reason it wan’t reported is that an “assault weapon” wasn’t the tool this guy used….
When you read an article like the one on Gary Cohn / Goldman, you think to yourself “wow, this is great, very in-depth. The Intercept might just be living up to its journalistic ideals.”
Then you read the unfortunately much more numerous lazy, agenda-driven drivel on whether Trump is certifiably insane, whether be broke the law by badmouthing NFL players’ behavior, and how he’s racist because he didn’t make a twitter spectacle of something … and you wonder whether you’ve been stealthily redirected to buzzfeed.
There is a simple reason this has been under-reported: the bomb didn’t go off. It is getting to the point where failed attacks aren’t getting much coverage, no matter who is responsible. It is becoming a case of “This isn’t really news …” when nobody dies. Is this “fair and responsible”? Not really. But, it is the way news organizations work.
“The story didn’t go viral and Trump didn’t tweet about it because the bomb was not placed by an immigrant, or a Muslim, or a Mexican.” You know this how? You’re kooky. The MSM would like nothing more than to report and dwell on the fact that not all terrorists are Muslims and immigrants. It’s a constant theme of CNN, MSNBC, the WaPo, and the NYT. The MSM probably didn’t obsess on this story because of other news (Vegas, NFL, etc.), and because, let’s face it, the MSM can be kind of stupid and inconsistent. Shaun King needs to get a clue and write like a journalist instead of a social justice warrior zombie.
Folks Trump does not run the AP.
The news organizations do. So if someone in Ashville did not put it on the AP then it didn’t hit the news blogs.
Media war mongering is a real profession now. So so sad
Where is his story of the family just rescued in Pakistan?
Why the Fraternal Order of Police Must Go
Adding: When the FOP was looking for a “trustworthy” historian to write their in-house history in the 70s, they tapped my father. <My father was a viciously racist and authoritarian man — the racist FOP got the "right" man for their requirements. Daddy "knew" MLK was a commie (just as racists here "know" Shaun King is a fraud) and that the movement for civil rights was just a bunch of anti-American agitators who didn't get that whites were superior; my dad never heard of an incident of police brutality he didn't endorse. He was ideal for the FOP.
Michael Christopher Estes is Native American. He’s not white but he looks white…..kinda like Shaun.
The relevant fact is that the media and law enforcement believed Estes was white, and treated him accordingly. Shaun King’s biological father is African-American; his wife and kids cannot “pass,” and Shaun can’t really, either.
Ever the lying apologist, eh Mona? Shaun King wrote, “The story didn’t go viral and Trump didn’t tweet about it because the bomb was not placed by an immigrant, or a Muslim, or a Mexican. It was placed there by a good ol’ white man, Michael Christopher Estes.” Again, the key phrase here is, “It was placed there by a good ol’ white man, Michael Christopher Estes.” At the time that this article was published, it was already widely reported that jail records listed Michael Christopher Estes race as “Native American.” As these records are a verbatim account of that which was claimed by Estes himself, there is no excuse for Shaun King definitively asserting that Estes was white. As that claim was patently false, all other claims that relied on it were also knowingly false. But hey, that is the nature of Imposter King’s modus operandi. Whenever Shaun “the deceiver” King is caught in a lie, he hides under the skirt of his unprincipled, ideologically driven apologists.
You are a racist, indicting Shaun King for what the cops and the media all conclude, namely, that Estes is white. Estes was treated as white, as King writes of above.
I know your type, Karl. I was raised by your kind — a white, Christian sect of Karls. You are all profoundly sick and racist, spewing lies and distortions about black people like Shaun King in every generation. You are just the latest iteration of this grotesque, racist vileness.
Links demonstrating this continuity on request.
Karl, why did you not comment on this?
What black civil rights activist since 1960 do you, Karl, credit as right about opposing racism, if there is even one? And if so, please describe what that activist was right about, and why.
Notice to all: Let this be a case lesson in the way that Mona responds when faced with incontrovertible facts that prove her wrong; She felt compelled to write three posts to dance around the fact that Shaun King knowingly lied when he claimed that Mr. Estes was “white” – two of which contained nothing but Ad hominem. She owes KittenJuggler and every other contributor on this thread an apology for deliberately posting misleading statements in defense of Shaun King’s lies. Watch her once again attempt to squirm out from underneath the house of cards (jokers) that she has built for the purpose of distracting and deceiving you all. Fukin’ pathetic.
Karl, do you still insist that Shaun King is lying about his biological father being black? If so, why do you claim he’s lying? (Do try to avoid overt defamation in any answer.)
“Incontrovertable facts?!?!” You’ve provided none. Mona, don’t waste your time. You’re not the “dumb fuck” whisperer.
Karl, has American law enforcement ever, at any time or in any way, been unfair and evil to black people in a kind and degree worse than treatment of whites? If so, in what period(s) and in what manner?
Reckon he’s related to the folks who own and operate Estes Express and Estes Freight Line? Estes is an English-language surname said to derive from Old English and have the meaning “of the East.” As a surname, it has been traced to southern England in the region of Kent, as early as the mid-15th century, Robert Estes (Ewstas, Esteuse) b. 1475 Deal, Kent, England-
The name Estes can be found in numerous European cultures including Irish, English, Spanish, and Greek. most importantly, it can be found in American Indian culture. For example:

Well written. I was surprised that this happened at Asheville Airport. It’s small and easily navigated. And your completely correct. We all do have prejudices of one sort or another. When I looked up Shaun King, the author of this article, I was surprised to see he is a gentleman of color. Damn! My old prejudicial imprint from childhood kicked in again. Won’t say sorry Shaun, but I’m still working on it and I’m real old.
I’m shocked that no one seems to suspect that more insidious things are not being covered up. While you insist on see everything through dichotomous glasses, the truth gets undiscovered and remains trapped, hostage in a dungeon. Isn’t this area a hub of spy vs. spy activity? Aren’t there any number of intelligence operations potentially involved? Doesn’t it seem more likely that avoiding deep cover exposure is a reason to hush it? Isn’t it also suspicious that these questions are not asked?
Funny thing is that Este’s is not a Caucasian American Male. But I guess The Intercept is well typical.
Plus there was no attack. Plus …
I dispatched your inanity below.
The fact that no attack actually happened also plays a part in why it has it has received so little attention–and occured at a smaller airport. Besides, the media is too busy talking about Weinstein every minute.
That does probably play a part, but a small part, in my opinion. Other foiled terrorist attacks have received far more attention.
The attack did actually happen. It was merely unsuccessful.
Remember when that black dude shot up a church as retaliation but you had to dig for that article b/c he was black and no one wanted anyone to get offended?
Yeah Shaun King, you’re full of shit…. again
Nice username.
Didn’t realise someone being white means they can’t be a supporter of racial justice… a bit prejudiced don’t ya think ?
Pass it on and make it go viral. Very few are aware of this story. I can’t wait to hear the excuses they come up with for this one.
The story got little press because it is old news; everyone knows white guys make the best terrorists, and make America great!
Lack of Evidence is proof of only one thing
That more evidence is required to come to a conclusion.
Perhaps Shaun King should have asked the Whitehouse for comment. If they came back with something like, “the airport bomber is an otherwise Fine Person except for this incident”, well, then now you have a disparity in reporting and now this story would make more sense.
After all, this was the case with Charlottesville, wasn’t it? The fact that Trump claimed there were Good People on Both Sides was how Trump reported on people, not on how he didn’t report on people.
Why they take a knee, Part 6,974
Richard Nixon’s henchman, John Erhlichman, on why his boss commenced the so-called War on Drugs:
Republican campaign tactical genius, Lee Atwater:
How about this: a bomb that didn’t go off doesn’t rate much publicity compared to the largest massacre in US history, who we were all immediately told was an old white guy. This particularly as Puerto Rico is a wasteland and half of Texas has been wiped out. Or, then there’s this:
https://twitter.com/FarLeftWatchOrg/status/918486336092372993
Showing a bit of political bias Shaun? Trump had nothing to do with this. What was Estes motive to start a war? Why didn’t you report on that instead of getting confused about why this story should be reported. Facts would be relevant, not your opinion on racial issues.
@Shaun King
Your basic premise for this article is a slippery slope.
Your premise is this: Donald Trump’s inaction (lack of tweeting, name-calling, etc) regarding the airport bomber is an example of his racism.
Really? This is really flawed logic and here’s why.
First, people’s actions are what is to be judge regarding racism, not their inactions. You’re basically saying an inaction is evidence of racism. This may very well be true in some circumstances, but I don’t believe that is the case here.
Second, your premise would then be an indictment of all MSM who also have not reported on this matter and brought attention to it, right? After all, the MSM hasn’t picked up on it as well. Is your story also an indictment of racism in the MSM since they have not reported on it.
Third, you yourself, who by your own admission, also did not hear about it as you admitted as much here:
What is your excuse for not reporting on it quicker? Is your lack of quick action evidence of racism? Are you making an admission with this comment above to that effect?
No, of course you not. And Yes, I do believe Trump is an overt racist. But generally speaking, we don’t accuse people of racism for what they don’t do, but rather for what actions they do take as evidence of racism.
Get a grip.
By the way, I noticed that your article didn’t mention whether or not you tried to contact the whitehouse for a response on this airport bomber.
Have you done so?
I think you let this one out of the gate prematurely. Next time, ask the whorehouse for comment.
“OH! But…oh…but…oh…but…”
lol…..Are you saying he’s gonna show us his “Oh” face? ;)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzIN3EgBIHg
@Galactus-36215,
Being such an astute purveyor of logic, you do understand, I’m sure, that a logical argument (very often) consists of multiple premises. You are creating a straw man argument here by choosing to inaccurately portray Mr. King’s argument as resting upon one and only one premise.
I could easily point out other flaws in your attempt at logic, but the point I make above is sufficient to invalidate your conclusion, so I’ll save us both some time.
Yes, you must point out other flaws because my comment was designed to address only one thing. Whether or not an nonevent or inaction on the part of someone is evidence of racism.
If there was any other premise to King’s article, please do point it out to me. His premise is his own, not mine.
If Trump had actually said something positive about the bomber, then King has a point. However, a person remaining silent is only evidence of silence.
Can you give any example whereby silence should be deemed as evidence of guilt?
Hey, wait…isn’t silence a person’s right when questioned by police? Does the law to construe silence as guilt? THAT’S GREAT LOGIC.
How does that play out in our legal system? Please, do explain.
Lets say the police see a white man littering and ignore it, but then seconds later arrest a black man for the same act. Can you logically claim that the white man’s freedom is not a product of racist inaction?
So, my first point was this:
I think in your example and what people are getting confused by is identifying how people express racism vs how institutional racism exists such as your example with the police.
Generally, one incident doesn’t qualify any sort of pattern. I’m hesitant to label someone a racist simply because of one incident such as your example. It my very well be an indication of racism, but one data point on a topic like this is not great evidence, especially in your example.
The reason I don’t think this is evidence of anything is that no one, including the King himself, has even heard of this event. King even admits such as I pointed out.
I think it’s more likely that Trump and his idiot minions didn’t even know about his incident in the exact same manner King and the media didn’t know about.
King is also making the assumption that Trump knew about this event and chose not to opine on it in any way. Right?
Where’s the proof Trump knew about this event?
@feckless
My statement above isn’t meant to imply Trump is not a racist. Trump is clearly a racist in the worst way.
I just believe King’s premise regarding this article is wrong-headed and dangerous.
Just imagine how perverse people could be with the power to accuse someone of racism simply because they were silent. This has been a long-time Democratic tactic.
You didn’t condemn X soon enough, therefore your’e guilty of Y.
It’s hysteria at best and doesn’t make for a peaceful society.
Trump apologists are beyond laughable at this point..
“people’s actions are what is to be judge regarding racism, not their inactions (sic).”
Trump routinely and recklessly accuses “radical Islamic terrorists” when events are unfolding without a shred of evidence to support his bigotry. The overwhelming majority of terrorist attacks in the USA are by radicalized white men who are NOT Muslim, yet he never talks about radical white terrorists or the need to ban them until we find out “what the hell is going on.”
“your premise would then be an indictment of all MSM who also have not reported on this matter and brought attention to it, right?”
YES! How could you read this article and NOT come to that conclusion? Do you think you uncovered something that was not the explicit point of this article? There is both a media double standard AND a racist president who praises white supremacists who, even after they murder an American in Charlottesville, are called “very fine people.” Congratulations on uncovering the point of the piece!
Enough pretending Trump’s blatant, lifelong, unveiled racism isn’t documented daily in his tweets and reactionary statements where black NFL players are SOB’s but there are no similar denouncements a white terrorist who shoots 700 Americans!
I’m anything but a Trump apologist. lol.
I guess if you read my statement below from my original post:
as being an apologist, why should we doubt the rest of your flawed comment.
Galactus – Yes, a person’s actions and what they say tell us a lot about if that person is a bigot, racist or other. You are incorrect however in saying their inactions do not enter into the equation. One can display the most virulent racism by not taking action or speaking up when confronted with an incident of violence either physical or emotional against another. It is time for people to stop hiding behind a silent mask of pretend unawareness. It is time for all to start ‘taking a knee’ or joining a peaceable protest against the inequality so rampant in our country.
Shaun,
I’m glad that you don’t let the underkkkover kkkowards dissuade you from doing your job. Funny how they hate you so much – yet your writing keeps them at rapt attention…
OK, this should have gotten more play MSM and you are right no group should be branded with a label based on action of individuals or subgroups. I am part Cherokee, do we judge all native Americans, formerly like everyone else on earth African, cradle of humanity, by this man’s actions. I have heard in my travels how black men are inherently violent, Native Americans are savage, and white men are privileged and murderous.
Sadly this is all sometimes true. WE ALL can be evil if we wall that path. Yet we ALL also have better angels.
Fallacy, the Americans were a war free paradise until the white man came, better take a hard look at history and human nature. We had wars, slavery, tribal imperialism before a “white” foot touched the shore. Best we ALL deal with our angels and devils than try to color-code them. Just an abbreviated history of long “Indian” wars for one Nation, for land, money, power, empire, red on red, red on white, white & red on red and so on. This is the same Native American Nation that inspired our Constitution. http://tolatsga.org/iro.html
What a brilliant reporter you are! The online jail records for this man show him to be Native American…
Consider the source – author is a white guy pretending to be black.
Please stop repeating that vicious lie about Mr. King. Maybe find something constructive to say?
Good point (if true). So your argument is that this story isn’t being widely reported to avoid offending Native Americans?
If true, King’s argument works nearly the same, as Native Americans are also not one of the usual suspects.
“Nearly the same” as in, not at all. Unless you are implying that Native American privilege and supremacy is a reason for the media to protect Native American shooters…
No. During one arrest the airport bomber was logged into jail as “native American.” But the media and cops, for purposes of this airport bombing episode, virtually all reported Estes as white, and treated him and the incident as Shaun King accordingly reports.
That is, Estes was treated with white privilege, as both cops and media assumed him to be white.
I have been a huge fan of The Intercept since Mr. Greenwald started it, as I believe he represents the finest aspects of journalism in our current period. I have donated, and am proud to not use an ad-blocker on this site.
However, the addition of Shaun King, a poor fascimile of a journalist whose cause de jour (racism) clouds every word he writes has changed that. He denigrates what was an otherwise fine news site with polemical diatribes full of his own opinion, rather than any attempt at evidence.
I didn’t think it would upset me so much to do this, but here we are: ad-blocker on. :(
All your statement says to me is that you choose to wear white privilege blinders, and I’m a middle-aged white guy saying this.
Bullshit.
https://twitter.com/MuslimIQ/status/917812593200418816
I love when I see someone now throw the ‘privilege’ card, used to be the ‘race’ card but now it’s privilege…
Please stop drinking the kool-aid!
Cops, media believe he’s white:
Shaun King is an outstanding addition to this site. I’ve been sickened to see some of the racists here repeat lies about his ethnicity, lies other racists spewed that forced Shaun to reveal his family’s dirty laundry. Racists have no capacity for shame.
They also tend to be morons ignorant of history. “Identity politics” was founded by white Europeans, including those who colonized North America. Whits encoded white supremacy into law and culture. Colin Kaepernick, Shaun King and other activists of color merely fight against the vicious, identity-based reality whites have obscenely forced on them.
You have a very strange sense of where the emphasis belongs.
“Though he was described as being white in police press releases while they were searching for him, online jail records list his ethnicity as being a Native American.”
The “emphasis” belongs where the cops and media put him and thus treated him: as a white man.
A white man … exactly like Shaun King. If you Google search you will find out Shaun’s own family gave a statement to CNN that Shaun lied about his mother’s imaginary affair to keep the scam alive. Shaun’s own family confirmed he is 100% white on Don Lemons show.
That is all false (Lemon reported an anonymous family member as supposedly saying that). Shaun King’s biological father was African-American. Even if that were not the case (but it is), Shaun King’s facts, and the facts about the airport bomber, stand.
This guy again? Go away you race baiting clown. Shaun King puts a sour taste on The Intercept.
When cops murder innocent white guys I don’t see King running around screaming. No news coverage. Is that white privilege also?
Does this guy ever debate anyone publicly? Like on stage somewhere?
Keep up the virtue signaling garbage Intercept (looking at you Scahill) and this experiment will be short lived.
You anti-BLM creeps are so fucking dumb. Ever hear of Google?
Shaun King:
And that’s not the only outrageous instance of cops killing a white person King has covered. But the victims of killer cops ARE disproportionately people of color.
Now, Mona…Marc said white guy, not white woman.
Right. Shaun’s covered white men slaughtered by cops as well, including one who was deaf. Posting before checking your facts is a hazard a lot of racists seem not to understand.
The deaf guy was Hispanic einstein.
Nope. Last name “Harris.” You supply no link and Google does not support your claim. You racists are Google-challenged. Many claims, no support.
As I said, Shaun King does, in fact, report on unconscionable cop killings of white people, contrary to the other racist’s claim.
Are you relying on the last name as proof of ethnicity?
Not in whole, no. See Zimmerman, George.
…or Melissa Harris, or Martin Luther King, or Hank Adams, or Jon Stewart………………..
Names mean nothing. Don’t racially stereotype people, especially with something as flimsy as a name.
Spoken by someone who has clearly not acknowledged or dealt with the reality of his own white privilege, and I say this as a middle-aged white guy.
No, you say that as a racist propagandist.
Go away, you race baiting fraud. This guy puts a sour taste on The Intercept.
When innocent white people are shot by police, I don’t see Shaun King running around screaming about police violence. Why don’t those stories get any news coverage? White privilege?
Does this clown ever debate anyone? Like publicly? On stage? That would be fun.
You’ve already made this idiotic statement once. Neither time did you address what King wrote about in the article, which is why there was virtually no national news coverage and no comment from our president about a very real and serious attempt to commit a terrorist act that likely would have caused much death and destruction. What’s your reason for this failure to publicize the incident?
Hes Native American according to Jail records like you are white according to birth records.
Radical eyes! (nod to Prophets of Rage)
I’m VERY curious what exactly radicalized this man, Shaun, making him want to build this type IED and plant it in a U.S. airport – “to fight a war on U.S. soil.” Being white may not be the only reason the story appears buried nationally, if he was career military, though I also have no doubt that’s mostly why it was ignored by main stream media. Already had their lone wolf for the week. Still, I have to believe local affiliates would’ve reported the story had their national broadcasters done so. It was squelched at the top.
I’d not heard of this attempted terrorism on U.S. soil (by another white man) before your article.
Thank you for this reporting!
I just hope young Shaun, here, has his journalism *License* papers in order. Trump is checking for @ #FakeNews Licenses.
*That goes for The Intercept too. .. Glenn, evidently, is working the ‘speaking circuit’ and Twittering mostly so his License is safe in escrow, for now.
Rocky Top Tennessee?
*You know, nfjtakfa, no matter where the ‘top’ is (& some insist it’s a ‘deep state’.), do you how the Sun. morning unfake *news* show all talk about the same thing(s)? It’s like magic (to me) how they all talk about the same thing.
Yeah, funny that. Abracadabra!
;)
Getting whining about “the intercept not covering it either”, by probably hyper-want-it now guy. Satisfied with citizens-times.com’s investigation, at least for the time being, i suppose. (not to imply i can tell if you should)
This guy will be remembered in history books as the white male native american terrorist who failed in his attempt to create a war on US soil and enjoyed white privilege in prison for the rest of his life. Thank you for this essential info, Shaun King.
LOLOL to all the people pointing out his jail record identity. Native American? I don’t give a rat’s a** what his jail records list. This guy is as Native American as my a**h*** looks like Ariel Sharon’s face.
What about NYT front-page?
This is pretty stupid. Failed bombings aren’t typically big news stories. The only failed bomber I can really remember is Richard Reid “the shoe bomber” and that’s because we all have to take our shoes off now at the airport thanks to that dumb jihadi, so arguably mission accomplished there.
You cannot be serious! Sounds about White I guess!
Times Square bomber
The United States of America was established upon the double standard. It somehow having been self-evident to her slaveholding, virulently racist founding fathers that
” .. all men are created equal”.
True enough … light is light, no matter which lamp it shines from.
Hey! You’re that guy who claimed you are black, but it turned out that you’re actually a white guy. Cool story, bro.
He’s black. Stop trolling.
http://www.snopes.com/2015/08/19/shaun-king/
There was another white guy on his way to O’Hare airport a fewdays ago with ammo, guns, etc. That got pulled over for speeding. Needless to say the cops thwarted his attack. You don’t hear about it either.
What’s his politics? The leftist antifa is trying to ignite a civil war. The antifa says Nov 4 is the big day. Why?
If this wasn’t documented on Mr. Trump’s Twitter feed, how do we know it really happened? Reality requires an anchor; in the modern world that anchor is Trump’s Twitter feed – at least as far as the media is concerned.
Mr. Trump’s silence may be evidence of racism. But Mr. Trump hates failures and this bomber didn’t complete his mission. It would be against Mr. Trump’s principles to promote an American failure. In an America made great again by Mr. Trump, every American mass killer would carry out their mission successfully.
However, let’s assume that racism is the root cause. Mass killers seek notoriety and to be ignored by the media must be extremely demotivating. Mr. King is performing a public service by pointing out this injustice. It is a testament to the character of these killers that they persevere despite such overt racism.
Just a thought (plus, why are you posting at this gad aweful hour?). Perhaps “authorities” didn’t want to promote a Native American uprising. The bomber’s jail record lists him as Native American. Whether or not that designation is factually correct, would the authorities chose to advertise something that might create Native American copycats? Or would they try to down play it? America has enough problems right now, for sure.
Just an early morning thought.
Mr. Trump’s Twitter feed is full of #FakeNews you won’t find in reality, benitoe.
Otoh, I can see how black people and Mr. King could well conflate reality with Mr. Trump’s Twitter feed. *I, myself, was born a poor black man … but then my family fell on hard times and moved to Appalachia.
Unlike terrorism, there is no war on racism yet. .. that would surely be in Mr. Trump’s Twitter feed.
“Estes is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5’7? tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on his arms and wrists,” police said in the post.”
I’d expect this coming from a racist, like Shaun King. Michael Estes obviously is Native American, not White.
Source: http://mugshots.com/US-Counties/North-Carolina/Buncombe-County-NC/Michael-Christopher-Estes.159742025.html
Look at his mugshots. Look at his features. He even has black hair like a Native American. To call him otherwise is racist and ironic, since the only thing black about Shaun King is the way he trims his facial hair.
How do you know he wasn’t a brother fighting to destroy the status quo of white patriarchy?
And to anyone saying anything about his last name being “white”: https://names.mongabay.com/data/indians.html
My God, you’re right! Only Native Americans have black hair. Wow, did you save us from making a BIG mistake. Thank you for your service.
Airport Bomb
Typical hate from a snowflake hater! Las Vegas massacre was dominating the news you liar! And why didn’t the lame stream media such as you report it!!!?? Terrorists attacks are stopped almost every day in the USA! Liberalism is a mental illness!!!
Oh, so liberalism is your excuse for your incoherent rant. Thank you for telling us.
More proof that right-wingers are sociopaths.
Yeah, that’s it, because the evidence that this guy is a “right winger” is so evident. Maybe, just maybe, he was doing the bidding of most progressives. After all, don’t most progressives advocate for war on the America of today and reshaping it in their image? Of course they do. Let’s call him what he is: a typical left winger.
Here is a prime example of the way in which Shaun King jumps at every opportunity to shoehorn an intentionally distorted slice of reality into his racially divisive world view. As others (h/t Wnt) have already pointed out many news agencies are reporting that Mr. Estes race is actually Native American.More importantly, it is not at all clear what Mr. Estes motive. The type of IED (ANFO ) that he constructed has been widely used by many revolutionary groups including the IRA, FLNC, NWFP, and Taliban. Mr Estes was career military and reportedly indigent at the time that he was arrested.
The fact that he was career military is probably why is wasn’t widely reported. Can’t make the troops look bad, can we? The guy who shot the 5 cops in Texas was ex-military. The guy who shot two cops in LA was ex-military. Timothy McVeigh Was ex-military. There’s a lot of nutbags coming home from wars. Those are the people we need to watch, and they come in all colours.
I do not believe that standard military training or combat experience necessarily predispose a soldier to Mass Murder. However, various “brainwashing” programs that fell under the general heading of MKUltra were funded by the military. They were obsessed with producing the perfect “Manchurian candidate.” To this end, various manipulations of the brain were devised including the use of psychotropic drugs, hallucinogens, insulin shock therapy, brain implants, hypnotism, stress induced schizophrenia, voice to skull technologies, microwave auditory effects, and various methods of electronic harassment. A number of ex-military mass shooters complained of being targeted with electronic harassment in the run-up to their alleged involvement in a particular event. And Tmothy McVeigh claimed that he was implanted with an electronic chip.
Some methods of MKUltra brainwashing techniques were devised in prison settings such as Vacaville prison which housed such notables as Charles Manson and SLA head Donald DeFreeze.
Actually, he’s Native American.
Dipshit.
A ton of biased information here. The author used this almost fatal incident to make some stab at the president. I’m not pro trump, but what you did is anything but good. You used this story to spew your ideology om the internet rather than report on reality. Why dont you stick to facts and less un-intellectual biased opinions that not everyone may share. Its articles like this that are half the reason no one will here about this. You read 30 seconds in and then just want to click the back button because its just a rant about trump.
Did you ever consider whether this case, and simlar cases, have received a low profile in the press because the owners of the press don’t want people worried about HOMEGROWN terrorism. Yes, it’s white; it’s also apparently Walmart supplied, and really, that means, it’s already everywhere, and people should be very afraid and stay away from airports etc. No, that’s not a message that the MSM wants people to hear… so the story gets low coverage. Terrorism is only a sexy headline when we have an OTHER; otherwise it’s a very scary headline that tends to be bad for business.
This article is bigoted.
There are two types of mass killing in the news and it’s time the media started differentiating between them. The two categories are not the false binary of “white lone wolves/mentally disturbed” vs. “Muslim/minority terrorist.” Neither crime category has a color, but one type is discernibly militant with cohesive, pragmatic (if heinous) motives and choice of target performed by individuals with militant ideology and militant ties and is age-old, while the other is motiveless or involves only a convoluted, delusional grudge, no history of militancy or militant ties and quite often no criminal history or long-standing history of mental illness except in a short period leading up to attacks. The only common denominator in the latter category are prescription drugs with black box warnings for violence and suicide and the fact that the category is new.
Paddock’s motives were hard to discern because he had none. According to psychopharmaceutical expert Dr. David Healy, 90% of modern, non-ideological massacrists (actual word) were confirmed to be taking certain medications. Healy includes a list of about 90 prescription drugs that have violent psychosis as a side effect, though he stresses that the drugs with the most Med-watch reports for violence and suicide are SSRI antidepressants, stimulants and second generation antipsychotics. This is precisely what another psychopharm expert Peter Breggin warned on Oprah in 1987 when he released secret Eli Lilly trial data showing violent psychosis was a frequent side effect of Prozac. There were even children enrolled in the trial for minor complaints (“homework anxiety”) who reported having intrusive dreams and fantasies of going to their schools and shooting classmates. Breggin was nearly stripped of his license for leaking the data though in the end he prevailed and currently, the FDA’s black box warning on SSRIs is, word for word, the warnings Breggin gave in congressional testimony about this class of drugs.
Since courts are more and more frequently sealing the medical records of non-militant perpetrators particularly when newer, on-patent drugs are involved it’s become harder to confirm what drugs mass killers were taking. It’s pretty clear Paddock was on more than just the off-patent Valium reported in the media, but we may never hear of it.
For the record, like Estes, Dylann Roof, James Fields, Timothy McVeigh and Anders Breivek are old fashioned white terrorists. It may be true that the media and officials are refusing to call them as much for racialized, political reasons. But this doesn’t make attempts to point out the drug link in cases like Vegas and Sandy Hook just part of a racist agenda and two-tiered justice system. It’s just an attempt to stop the growing trend. Regulating medications won’t stop terrorism but would cut down on the number of dead bodies considerably.
The proof that something new is causing the nonideological attacks is that the attacks are a completely modern phenomenon. The first known drug-associated, motiveless, non-militant mass killing or “school shooting” in history was the Bell Tower massacre in 1966 performed by Charles Whitman who had been on a cocktail of amphetamines and then-new MAO inhibitors, a combination known to induce violent psychosis in some individuals. Whitman had an undiagnosed brain tumor which caused migraines– a condition for which MAOIs were prescribed.
Though there had been school shootings in the past, none were motiveless (jilted suitors shooting teachers, angry parents shooting school masters who were too handy with a paddle board and several incidents of the military massacring Native American children). The only incidents prior to 1966 that bore resemblance to modern massacres– the Bath massacre in 1927 and random Javan knife rampages in the mid 1800s– may have had substances involved. 1927 was the year the federal government began spiking bootleg alcohol with cocktails of drugs and poisons like mercury, barbiturates and strychnine which drove thousands of people to insanity or death that year. Some toxic cocktail or other could have accidentally mimicked the effects of modern prescription drugs. And the Javan knife rampages occurred during the first opium war and may have involved batches of spiked opium. Some have brought up the Bremen school massacre in Germany in 1913 as an “early case,” but recent reports in Der Spiegel describe the perpetrator as having ideological motives and militant ties to arms dealers.
Other than that, there are no other crimes reported in history that even come close to resembling modern “random” mass killings. The idea that video games could be driving the trend discounts other brutalizing periods in history where a Saturday afternoon activity might be bringing the kids to an execution or lighting dogs on fire, not to mention slavery and the Civil War.
I think it’s a precious service rendered to the pharmaceutical industry to blur the distinction between crimes or to think it’s more egalitarian to paint all as terrorism. For one, the victims of the epidemic of non-ideological attacks come in every color and class. Secondly, the manner in which minority communities have been particularly targeted for coercive drugging– through Medicaid, foster programs, schools, juvenile facilities, psychiatric courts and racist federal programs like the second Federal Violence Initiative (http://breggin.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/abiomedical.pbreggin.1993.pdf ) make the blurring of categories ironic. Another irony is that obscuring a likely cause of nonideological attacks will only lead to more mandated drugging, particularly of minorities. As the parent of Hispanic children, I’ve been aware of this pressure for a long time.
I live in Asheville. This case has been low on the news radar here. I suspect it has to do with both tourism, and the fact that he’s white and he got caught. Crisis averted. I will note that we had a two week manhunt earlier in the summer, in which a white male essentially shut down a large swath of WNC, which was headline news. And, of course, we have a daily deluge of local crime articles. Guess it’s OK to reinforce stereotypes of “white trash”, but the overall narrative on terrorism is that it has to be a radical Muslim.
The “radical Muslim” angle is simply done to encapsulate a comprehensive ideology. There is no coordinated, organized, or comprehensive ideology for a few white men attempting to commit acts of terrorism. They have no apologists. no central command, and no funding. That’s the difference that you all seem to miss.
“There is no coordinated, organized, or comprehensive ideology for a few white men attempting to commit acts of terrorism. They have no apologists. no central command, and no funding.”
So you’ve never heard of the KKK?
The term “radical Muslim” is used as a specific attempt to disguise the antipathy some people feel towards Muslims in general. By adding the apparent clarifier “radical”, the speaker appears to make a distinction among different types of Muslims. The tactic is used to disguise the fact that, for some people, the mere fact of being a Muslim makes one radical.
The situation with muslims and terrorists is unique to Muslims and terrorism. It is not at all the same that happens to immigrants in general, or black people for that matter. Immigrants, hispanics, black people… are not suspected of being terrorists for crimes that one of them (us) commits.
What is the ideology of this terrorist in NC? Maybe we would see his actions as an indictment of his entire group, faith, etc. But why does his group need to be “white people”, who says that’s the relevant group anyways? Islam is not a race, btw, neither is “immigrants” or “hispanics.” Shaun King speak as if it was all one thing, which is totally nonsensical.
I think the fallacy in Shaun’s views is due to the fact that he thinks of race as the only grouping relevant – to the point of speaking as “whites” as an equivalent category as “whole faith” (apples and oranges). The frame of reference is all wrong.
You are a sensationalist and a hypocrite. How about the fact that another guy shot 600 people in Vegas around the same time, maybe that’s why this didn’t “go viral”? Articles like this only appeal to people who look for a reason to feel underprivileged in a country with an absurd amount of unearned privileges. Coming up with obscure examples of “white privilege” that turn people of different racial backgrounds against each other is much worse than what you describe as racism in your garbage article. Nice “journalism” Shaun King.
You do prove your point.
Even if the bomber was Native American?
And yet I’m sure we will hear about it again. Last I checked, the DoJ throughout the 1990s maintained that domestic groups were the real threat, and kept tabs on homegrown survival types instead of the 9/11 terrorists.
“Toxic Masculinity” ?
He may or may not be “White”, may or may not be “Native American”, but it appears certain that he is male.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-10-11/professor-suggests-toxic-masculinity-caused-las-vegas-massacre
“The facts of toxic masculinity are rarely discussed after mass shootings, as we beat the usual drums of gun control and mental health…But consider the bigger evolutionary picture,’ Asma writes in the op-ed.
“Social life requires the domestication of men…Males must transform from little tyrants, competing for females, to selfless bodyguards and potential providers.”
Asma then asserts that if a man is unable to obtain a partner, he remains “emotionally juvenile—aggressively impulsive, self-serving, and potentially violent,” and may even “take up a disdainful hostility towards domestication itself.”
it is obvious that the “professor” is saying “toxic masculinity” due to his own ideological bias. He has no idea what led the shooter to act, he is just mindlessly pushing his dumb ideological dogmas. No different than a reactionary saying that it is God’s punishment for gay marriage. Stop paying attentio to this kind of idiot.
At least toxic masculinity exists somewhere,(even if we can’t discern it significantly caused this) whereas gods punishment exists nowhere.
He’s allowed to theorize, and you’re allowed to take it with a grain of salt. Calm down, Francis.
Anyway one problem with the “toxic masculinity” line is that the guy had a live-in girlfriend. Maybe they weren’t the happiest couple and he wanted some unrealistic 20-year old sex kitten? In that case, there’d be a stronger case imo. But Vegas looks, for now, like nothing more than a stupid rich -sshole who decided to kill a bunch of people.
“Jail records list him as Native American.”
Are you kidding me? The name “Estes” is as British in origin as it gets. Everyone in this part of North Carolina is related to Native Americans. My grandmother was half-Cherokee. Anyone living here before 1839 was likely linked by blood to Cherokees. Listing someone named “Estes” as Native American is called deflection. Do you get it now? If he had named himself the progeny of colonial bandits it would have been more accurate than calling himself Native American.
Even if he is only a small fraction native American, he is less white than Shaun King.
That boy is textbook ethnomasochist (since transracial ‘is not a thing’).
Shaun King just keeps replaying the one story he learned how to write. This is really getting old.
“White people aren’t, thanks to Estes, suddenly labeled terrorists or seen as a threat to American safety in the way that would almost certainly happen had it been anybody other than a white man.”
There is no belief system associated with being white. There is a belief system associated with being a right-wing extremist. So, what is really a political problem is being mistakenly cast as a racial problem. It’s a bad mistake.
Really?
I’d agree it wwould be accurate to say their is no singular belief system associated with being “white” (whatever that means).
Just as there is no singular belief system associated with being “black” (whatever that means).
Just as there is no singular belief system or practices amongst all Catholics, or all Muslims, or all Jews or all Protestants, or all Norwegians, or all women, or all LGBT citizens, or . . . .
But so what, that should be consensus reality in the world but it isn’t (i.e. that people are not monolithic based on some share class trait)?
But that’s also not Mr. King’s point.
His point is that there is a plain as day hypocritical double standard in America (in general though not without isolated exceptions) particularly in media and cultural understandings of events (and myriad “institutions” of culture, government or business) that perpetuates the idea that when certain types of acts are committed by an individual, his/her acts are or should be imputed to all others who generally share that same “class” characteristics such as race, ethnicity, national origin, and/or religion (unless of course said individual is white and nominally Christian in which case his/her actions are never imputed to be reflective of whites and nominal Christians as a group.
Again that’s the point, and that’s a problem. And it is one that has been well documented not just by Mr. King or any of the writers at The Intercept but writers and academics long before either existed.
There is a belief system associated with being Muslim, and terrorism committed by Muslims is blamed on the belief system with some justification. Similarly, blaming the terrorism of Timothy McVeigh or Dylann Roof on right-wing ideology would be justified.
However, I’ve looked into this further and I was surprised to find that when Steve Scalise was shot – an apparent case of left-wing terrorism – Trump declined to use that word. So, that does suggest that the decisive factor in these cases may indeed be race. Hmm.
Say what?! There is no belief system associated with being Catholic, Muslim, Jewish?!
You’re going to some extreme lenghts of denial here.
Hey, Diogo, please try re-reading rrheard’s comment with some attention and care this time, rather than just your preconceived notions. See that word “singular” in front of “belief system”? It means something. Think, man, think!
What does “singular” supposed to mean in this context? It is totally irrelevant whether people have the exact same belief or not: Muslims, Catholics, Jewish – are denomyns referring to belief systems. White, blacks, immigrants are not. Simple as that.
The reason it didn’t go viral is that nobody died. It takes fresh blood that can be exploited for page hits and to advance an agenda for a story to be big in the LSM.
Now that you’ve explained that away, try your hand at explaining how it is that you’ve apparently never heard of Richard Reid of Shoe Bomber infamy; an attempted attack where also nobody died.
laughlin – that’s the entire point.
there isn’t a belief system associated with being white, that’s true. there is also no belief system associated with being black and, going further, neither is there a universal interpretation of islam, just as there isn’t for christianity.
that’s where the outrage is. if this was any other demographic, the media would be all up in arms stating something like, for example, ‘the muslim community needs to come together and root out the evil among them’.
it’s such an absurd task for an entire demographic to do such a thing. we don’t expect it from white people, but we expect it from everyone else.
double standard. white privilege. whatever you want to call it – you are pointing precisely to the problem.
White privilege is the new racist epithet. Get with the times, this new identity politics divides the whites into left and right or anti American globalist left vs the populists right.
I think you are right, Shaun is mistaken. Not only there is no belief system associated with being white – he also mixes a bunch of different categories (religion, race, immigration status) as if it were equivalent and basically race. Typical cacophony of identity-speak.
The entire idea of race is a belief system. You are so knee deep into that belief it doesn’t even register. That idea has been cancerous to western society for the last 500 to 1000 years.
Really? https://mic.com/articles/172812/survey-finds-55-of-white-republicans-think-blacks-face-poverty-due-to-lack-of-motivation#.kQjYKREGV
That Repubs think that way is no surprise…and 25% of DEMOCRATS! That’s no small number.
You’re right that this story dropped out of sight amazingly fast. But … according to http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4966778/FBI-Man-left-explosive-jar-North-Carolina-airport.html the jail records list him as a Native American!
DM doesn’t have the greatest reputation, but if there’s truth to this it kind of blows white privilege out of the water, doesn’t it?
I think the more relevant thing is that an alarm clock bell that strikes a match plus sterno and a shotgun shell and ammonium nitrate do not really equal a bomb! The problem is that a shotgun shell and a blasting cap are, alas, two totally different things, or else the world would be a much more interesting place. (OTOH I just heard this laptop emitting ultrasound for the first time… they really ought to put that in a frequency people genuinely can’t hear)
The Fucking Daily Mail, you are really using the fucking daily shite mail as a source. Fuck you.
A lot of people hate their politics or ownership or something, but I like their style. They throw everything but the kitchen sink in their articles and dump a lot of data we can sort through afterward.
I mean bear in mind that I look at things from a rights-based point of view that doesn’t much match most sources. Even The Intercept is often far off from what I think. Whether I read wsws, the Daily Stormer, the Daily Mail, or the Washington Post, I’m going to be wading through reams of stuff I don’t agree with logically, and (for the latter three at least) a lot of mind-numbing propaganda. So picking on Daily Mail as the mighty fortress of all evil? Not gonna happen for me.
It wouldn’t blow white privilege out of the water, because whiteness is a racial experience. The man in the photo can, if he wants, have a white racial experience in America. This is called “passing” and it’s up to him whether he wants to do it or not. I submit further that the name “Michael Christopher Estes” doesn’t immediately read to me as Native American. Not that he isn’t, and maybe in his daily life he doesn’t try to pass as white. That’s all besides the point.
CBS news doesn’t have a great reputation either (it is MSM) but they say the same thing about his jail records.
Might wait on this. The Intercept should have too.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fbi-man-left-jar-filled-with-explosive-chemicals-nails-at-north-carolina-airport/
OMG! If that device had gone off, we would have had a bag fire at the Asheville airport! A really, really hot bag fire!
Such a clever design too. And sourcing a mechanical alarm clock these days? Wow. Who knew that Walmart still sells them? (Note to self: When building Rube Goldberg device and can’t find parts in kitchen junk drawer, check Walmart. That have good prices, too. Note #2: Pay cash but do not use loyalty card. Oh, also do not dress in suspicious terrist black garb, wear Hawaiian shirt and straw fedora, like going on vacay.)
Apparently the perp was trying to “fight a war on U.S. soil.” Phew, that was close. I don’t know about you guys, but if someone successfully starts a bag fire somewhere, I’m definitely going to war against my neighbors. Definitely.
Is he listed as “Native American” because the police identified the guy via some kind of records, or because the accused insisted that he is a “Native American!!!!1″ (as in true, red-blooded American, rather than someone descended from the Cherokee, Iroquois, etc.)
hahaha! That’s great! Whether or not he is Native American or not, this proves the absurdity of believing one can explain the world on the basis of race. Because, how in the hell could any distant observer know what race he is – race is not even a real thing. Does everything change, suddenly, because he is Native American? It makes no sense.
I wasn’t aware that Trump read the Daily Mail.
Reminds me of Andres Brevik who killed 90 in Oslo. Even though he said it was to stop the “islamification of Europe” the news couldn’t say anything more than he “displayed terrorist like qualities”. How about he was actually a terrorist??
Kind of lame that the newspaper article y’all linked to makes you fill out a survey to look at the article… Personally, I hate that crap. I mean, the website probably already looked at my browsing history, how much more do they need to know so they can market to me better??? One day I’d like to be free from suggestion…
“White Terrorism” is Rife in America, and it always has been. The msm won’t report it because they know that they have been a hugh part of the problem. Zero reporting means zero accountability. For those that believe that it isn’t about race: https://youtu.be/hpj_3Sbhbxk
Thank You, Mr. King, for this Extremely Important Report.
You have got to be kidding, right? “White Terrorism”… ‘MSM won’t report it..” Have you lived under a rock for the last couple of decades? It’s blasted into peoples’ living rooms and brains nearly 24/7. We’re constantly pummeled with it.
If you did some research, and stopped relying on msm, you would find that it is You that’s been living under a rock.
Too bad CBS NEWS, USA TODAY, THE WASHINGTON POST, etc… all posted on Tuesday, more than a full day before racist Shaun, yet he so conveniently missed all those articles in his thorough research. Keep lapping up what this race baiter feeds you so you can hate people for no reason and preach for other people not to do the same to you. I guess its almost as surprising that he missed all those articles as it is that he missed the jail report stating the man is NATIVE AMERICAN. But then I guess that wouldn’t fit his hate filled, dividing narrativel he spews here.
Just because someone ticks a box on a jail-house form claiming to be Native American does not make it so. Which Indigenous Nation has claimed him? What Reservation does he come from and what are his indigenous life experiences? There are many people in America that “claim” to be Native American when in fact they are not. There is lengthy research process into ancestry, dna, and contacting of Tribal Nations involved in order to prove lineage and which Tribal Nation claims you…not the other way around. In other words, I refuse to buy it. This is just about another “White Terrorist” (of which the majority of these Mass Murderer’s are in the U.S.) pissed off at everyone about only he knows what. Making excuses for this nut-job doesn’t change the fact that he murdered 58 people, injuring 489 others, destroying the lives of hundreds of families that have/had the same color of skin that he did is reprehensible, and disingenuous. If that man was any other color you would be just like all the other wolves ready to consume the slaughter. https://you.be/tsMXtlW1uoE
For some reason the YouTube video that I listed claims to be an unsecure site. You can still view it on youtube at…Reich-Wing Watch, Before and After Trump Supporters Learned Las Vegas Shooter Was a White Male.
Its also possible that since no motive is known yet, there is nothing to hook on to. he said he wanted to “start a war on American soil”. That is actually a very Islamic point of view. I bet there will be more news when there is more to report. But for the moment we just have a guy with a bomb not really meant to go off near an airport.
There are also lots of converts to Islam who are quite white, even German, who attempt terror using Islamic logic and motivations. And yes, they get a little press but not as much as they should. Mostly to shield Islam’s reputation as “the religion of peace” I would guess.
Oh no….when can we expect “Karl” or “OraleHohms” to come along and point out that Shaun King isn’t really white/black/insert-race-here and therefore his article must be wrong?
heh heh
Hi Mark…it’s strange that you’re thinking of me.
Why in the world do you think I care what color Shaun is?…or that it matters???
Is this some subpar trolling??
He was native American
Nice try but turns out he is Native American. Feel free to look it up if you don’t believe me.
According to USA Today the timer wasn’t even set to go off.
Why is King allowed to write his racist diatribes I wonder?
So it’s racist for a reporter to point out that an ammonium nitrate/fuel oil explosive device containing nails and bullets was planted at a US airport by a white male because the alarm was not set? Interesting.
Why was a bomb SET in the first place REGARDLESS of whether it went off or not. SMFH @ the clueless
White on white is racist?
This is a left vs right thing.
It may be possible that Mr. Estes had political motivations. Asheville was near where Eric Rudolph hid out from the feds for several years, and Rudolph was believed to have had local help. Asheville is also a more liberal area surrounded by very conservative areas.
You said, “Asheville is also a *more* liberal area”
It is more than “more”.
http://www.romanticasheville.com/gayandlesbian.html
“Discover a very diverse community in Asheville! It’s been a popular resort and relocation area for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered communities for many years. The large LGBTQIA community enjoys welcoming visitors, since most of them were once visitors before they fell in love with the area and relocated. Find many places to go and things to do. With a very vibrant arts community, creativity abounds! For an extra festive weekend, come to the Blue Ridge Pride Celebration each fall. Check out our Top 10 Things to Do.”
ps,
You do not need to be LGBTQ to luv Asheville. It is Beer Town and Bee Town and coffee roasters galore and full of art and theater and more restaurants than you can visit in a life time and it has mountains and fall leaves and waterfalls and the Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn and Asheville earned Lonely Planets “best place to visit” award
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/best-in-us
You might consider using a motorcycle to get there though. Take the Blue Ridge Parkway ! My favorite ride !
Why does his arrest record show his race as “American Indian / Alaskan Native?”
Pretty sure Estes didn’t make national news because he didn’t kill anyone. There have been 97 terrorist plots since 9/11 and you almost never hear about any of them. Regardless of the skin color of the terrorist. http://dailysignal.com/2017/09/07/foiled-virginia-attack-brings-total-us-terror-plots-97-since-911/
This seems to be less about race and more about he didn’t kill enough people. I agree that is a horrendous standard. But it is the standard that mainstream media goes off the majority of the time.
Really? So if he had been Muslim (black or white or any shade in between ) with the same results (no one killed), same thing? Good God.
“This seems to be less about race and more about he didn’t kill enough people.” Wrong. “Enough people?” You’re all over the map with your bad rationales.
Absolute rubbish. You know damn well that an airport bomb planted by a Muslim would be national news.
You know damn well that an airport bomb planted by a Muslim would be national news.
Ahmed Ressam, the Millenium Plot bomber didn’t kill anybody, yet his story was widely reported on by the media.
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20010530&slug=ressam30m
I suppose you’re going to pretend you’ve never heard of Richard Reid, the attempted shoe bomber. He didn’t kill anyone but we’ve ALL heard of him and we have to remove our shoes at airport security thanks to him.
I read in The Guardian on Friday that supposed “terrorist” plots were foiled in NY and London (I think). Maybe it wasn’t NYC, but NC.
Your article makes your conclusion incontrovertible.
And since we cannot ascribe consistency to POTUS, except with certain races/ethnicities, I agree with you.
The only thing to do is call out his hypocrisy.
Every single time.
I recall that in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the MSM reported a white couple salvaging food from flooded supermarkets while it reported black folk looting supermarkets.
Does it make a difference-salvaging vice looting-if the alleged looter/salvager is taking Air Jordans or tv sets? A lot of that went on after Katrina.
I call recall that, too. Thanks for posting.
I heard not a word about this. Of course not. Thanks Shaun King for bringing this to the forefront.
