On the eve of tonight’s debate, a federal appeals court dealt a blow to Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, overruling his attempt to block the resettlement of Syrian refugees in his state. Pence’s lawyers argued that terrorists could pose as refugees and enter the United States, but a conservative panel of judges unanimously rejected the argument on Monday, saying “no evidence of this belief has been presented,” and calling it “nightmare speculation.” One of the judges, Diane Sykes, is on Donald Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees.
