Two overshadowed vice presidential candidates briefly emerged into the media spotlight on Tuesday night. Their areas of agreement turned out to be more telling than their disagreements.
I just posted a blog looking at a manufactured controversy seeking to portray Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, as a communist liberation theology Catholic. The “scandal” being pushed by a right-wing Catholic group, seeking to capitalize on tonight’s VP debate, centers around a meeting Kaine had 35 years ago with a radical priest when Kaine was working as a volunteer with a Jesuit community in Honduras. That priest was later murdered by a death squad supported by then-Ambassador John Negroponte. Perhaps that scandal deserves some scrutiny. Also, maybe Clinton should ask her buddy Negroponte, whose endorsement she was so proud of, what he knew about the operation to kill an American and toss his body from a helicopter.
