How Japanese SIGINTers Helped NSA

SUMMARY

Japan’s Directorate for SIGNIT, or DFS, found the replacement for a signal that benefited “many organizations” in the U.S. intelligence community but disappeared in 2002 or 2003. To honor this discovery, the NSA allowed DFS to name the new signal.

The DFS discovery and subsequent NSA-DFS collaboration have allowed us to continue to provide the Intelligence Community, and particularly PACOM, with intelligence related to a , thereby ensuring security in the Pacific Theater.
