(U) New authoring tool is first phase of Dissemination
Modernization program... This is one in a series of messages
concerning the upcoming replacement of SIGINT on Demand (SOD)
by the Content Preparation Environment (CPE).
(U) Background
(U) The Content Preparation Environment (CPE) replacement of
SIGINT On Demand (SOD) marks the beginning of NSA's transition
from SOD and legacy authoring systems to CPE as the next step
along the Dissemination Modernization (DM) path.
(U) Description
(U) CPE will boast features not available with its predecessor. CPE
1.0 provides analysts and reporters with an authoring tool that:
(U) Is Web-based (Netscape 7.0 or higher, or IE 5.5 or
higher, or Mozilla 1.1 or 1.6 required)
(U) Replaces SOD and all SOD Special Editions
(U) Can be used to produce GAMMA, ORCON, and NOFORN
reports
(U) Provides all functionality currently available in SOD

(U) Features an improved Graphic User Interface
(U) Will require PKI and Passport/Casport accounts
(U) Will be made available to the entire extended
enterprise, including all Cryptologic Centers and field sites,
in a controlled rollout
(U) Rollout Schedule
(U) The initial rollout (CPE 1.0) will be for current SOD users only
and will take place over a 7-week period beginning in June
2006. After SOD users have transitioned to CPE, non-SOD users
will then be eligible to use CPE, beginning in mid-July.
(U) Future Additions
(U) CPE is a spiral development, and, like other spiral
developments, is designed to show improvement with each
subsequent release. After the initial 1.0 rollout, CPE's next spiral
(1.1), expected to be released in September, will add such features
as:
(U) Word editor
(U) Spell checker
(U) User Input Vital
