(C) Robert W. Swartz, Special Advisor to the Vice President for National Security Affairs, visited NSA on 15 May for in-depth discussion with NSA collection and analytic experts from across SID on several Middle East-related topics. (TS//SI//REL) White House Account Manager and D/SINIO WMD and Proliferation organized this visit at Mr. Swartz's request to discuss several topical areas concerning weapons proliferation: North Korea's military assistance to Iran, North Korea-Syria military collaboration, and other developments in the Middle East as well as NSA's collection posture against those countries. (U) President Ahmadinejad of Iran, Bashar al-Assad of Syria, and Kim Jong-il of North Korea (Reuters) (TS//SI//REL) Mr. Swartz expressed the Vice President's appreciation for NSA's many intelligence contributions in these areas. He also stated that the VP's intelligence staff are enthusiastic consumers of SIGINT and look for NSA reporting on the hottest topics, such as Iran and North Korea, "on an hourly basis." (TS//SI//REL) Thanks to the active participation of NSA analysts and collection experts, Mr. Swartz deemed his visit here a huge success. He was clearly impressed with the depth of knowledge imparted to him. All SID elements worked in collaboration to give Mr. Swartz the big picture of how NSA thoroughly tackles a target from top to bottom. He promised to maintain a closer relationship with NSA through repeated visits here and invited NSA to send teams to brief him and his colleagues on matters of national interest.
