18th in a series of Strategic Intelligence Issue Seminars for 2006. " Islam in Africa: A Look at
the Radicalization of African Islam or Not " will be presented by
SINIO for
Sub-Saharan Africa and
D/SINIO for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Course Overview:
(U//FOUO) An overview of the state of Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa. Home to a sizeable portion
of the world's Muslim population, how is Africa coping with the growth of fundamentalist or
radicalized Islam worldwide? The session will address issues such as the introduction and spread
of Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa; the political and social dynamics of African Islam today; is Africa
fertile ground for the spread of radicalized Islam and extremism; and snapshots of Islam in
select African countries
