The National Security Operations Center at NSA-Georgia was created to replicate some of the most important functions performed at NSA headquarters at Fort Meade in case the NSOC in Maryland cannot function properly. This system was tested for the first time when a heat wave and resultant power loss in August 2006 caused problems at Fort Meade, and the Georgia facility successfully functioned as a backup.
