Was That a Mortar or a Grenade?

SUMMARY

Describes a first-hand account of an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Demascus, Syria on September 12, 2006. The staff locked themselves in the Post Communication Center vault and prepared for emergency destruction of documents. The assailants, who had two "explosive-laden cars," were ultimately all killed by Syrian security forces. After the attack, the embassy evacuated all non-essential personnel, and then the NSA staff inspected the roof maintenance shed that contained concealed radios, which were damaged.
