Unmasking ICE

We built a guide to patches worn by ICE and CBP to help the public determine which federal agents are in their communities.

When Congress pressed CBP for a report on Pretti’s killing, it offered answers to a list of questions. CBP also supplied the questions itself.

Asked for a response to the killing of a VA nurse, the secretary of Veterans Affairs shifted the blame to local officials.

The killing marked the second fatal shooting by federal agents in the city in less than a month. Neither victim appeared to be the target of immigration enforcement.

Videos of agents falling down and dropping their guns feel beyond parody. But under-trained law enforcement officers are a real danger to the public.

“It’s not just clashes between protesters and ICE; it’s an attack on basic rights that we’ve taken for granted,” says Minnesota Public Radio reporter Jon Collins.

Rep. Delia Ramirez called her bill “the bare minimum” to rein in ICE while Democratic leadership remains resistant to abolishing the agency.

The shooting came just one day after an ICE agent in Minneapolis shot and killed Renee Nicole Good.

Identifying the shooter in Minneapolis, The Intercept found a photo captioned “Jon Ross in Iraq” posted by a man noted in public records as his father.
