Alexey Kovalev is the investigations editor at Meduza, an independent Russian-language news outlet. He was born in Moscow and spent most of his life there, except for three years in London, where he got his master's degree in international journalism. He is currently based in Riga, Latvia, after being forced to emigrate from Russia in early 2022 due to the passage of a law that effectively criminalized independent reporting. He has contributed articles to the Guardian, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, among other news organizations.
