Rubina Madan Fillion is the director of audience engagement at The Intercept. She spent seven years at the Wall Street Journal, where she focused on social media, mobile strategy, analytics, search-engine optimization, and digital innovation across the newsroom. Previously she was a freelance graphics editor at the New York Times. She has also written for Reuters, the Huffington Post, the New York Post, SPIN and the Associated Press.
Rubina is an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where she teaches a graduate-level course on audience engagement. She has also taught digital journalism at New York University. She serves on the board of the Deadline Club, New York’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She has a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
